This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. High rise pants. I know they don’t work for everyone.
Last week I posted that I was looking for a high waisted, wide leg chambray or denim pant. I have a very long torso and small waist, and I realize a super high rise is what accentuates my shape best, and because it sits where it’s supposed to it’s more comfortable.
Everlane super soft/summer wide leg jeans came out last year. I actually tried a few sizes previously but they weren’t great. I found them hidden on the site and tried the light wash this time and the new easy jean. First off the easy Jean is even more horrible than I thought possible. The wide leg Jean is actually a lighter weight cotton denim, nice light wash, great leg shape, but the rise is about 3” shorter than I need. Not terrible, could make them work, but I want to love them, so back they go.
I almost pulled the trigger on the Kamm but they’re sold out now so I’m searching resale and put myself on the wait list. Crazy as that is.

    1. @Suz Has, I'm exactly the same, and very high rise pants are the most flattering for me. Low and mid rise look absolutely awful and make my legs look too short.

Meanwhile, I'm not purchasing anything. Just need a break from consumption. Besides that, J.Crew has absolutely nothing to tempt me. Even if I keep blinders on about the price (whether high or low), I just don't want anything they have right now. My old stuff is so much better.

I was in a store a couple of weeks ago and tried on one of the Liberty "slim fit" shirts, and that cut just doesn't work for me. The slim perfect shirt was indeed "perfect."

    2. For $400 the Kamm pants would have to make me look like Claudia Schiffer or leap tall buildings or solve cold fusion or something...

    3. MmeJacqueline, nothing is really tempting me either. I wanted/needed bigger white button downs as my gym habit has broadened my upper back and I got the tuxedo popover with the black buttons, an air cotton button down from Everlane and a white linen button down from Alex milll. Between those and the older ones that still fit I’m done there, and with the tshirts I purchased last week and my assortment of tanks and sleeveless blouses I can’t imagine needing more tops.

I certainly have plenty of workable bottoms so I know the Kamm is an insane purchase but then again I’ve spent that much on FRYE boots, wore them awhile and sold them, and got Stella McCartney shoes that I’ve been wearing every opportunity I can, and they make me happy.
If I counted up all the pants I have that are just ok I’d easily have spent $400.

    4. I should also add that with my current lifestyle I don’t need that many outfits!

    5. @Suz Has, Truth be told, I have the wardrobe for someone else's lifestyle these days, and it's not all because of covid. I really do need to "right size" my life which means paring down in so many areas. It's overwhelming, but I have to start somewhere. I think the first thing that has to cease is bringing one more of anything into my life.

That's just where I am, so I guess I'll thank J.Crew for no temptations. I unsubscribed on emails from all other clothing sources. Not even looking.

I need to get real about the life I actually have (and truly choose to have) rather than some sort of imagined one.

    6. Mmejacqueline, I agree with you 100 percent and I’m truly impressed. I know I keep buying stuff because it’s on sale and it fits what my wardrobe in my head wants, but most of it is just ok and with my current chosen lifestyle, much of it is not used or needed.
Another “jcrew” friend who has become a great friend/support suggested we might want to do a challenge to limit our purchases. If you need or want the mutual support feel free to email me at wear this like this AT gmail dot com.
I love this group and I’m always interested in what everyone is buying but I also know so much of it is not “relevant” to my life right now.

    7. I decided to unsubscribe from emails as well... it hasn't completely stopped tho. Some slip thru. I need to cut back on shopping. I keep track of what I buy and where but sometimes I look back and just have to say "ugggh" at what I bought/spent. I've also decided to just get rid of my Poshmark account (or at least put it on hold and delete the app). I find myself looking for random things. But if anyone see's anything they like, make me an offer before it all goes to donation! @couchtot1

  2. Suz, Madewell has the Warm Mary Acid Wash Jeans on sale for $199. At 9 5/8", they're probably not high-rise, but definitely wide leg. Not familiar with the brand but all sizes (0-3) are available this morning. Overall quite dreamy!

    1. Yeah not at all high rise for me. Funny because I’ve looked for wide leg at madewell and they don’t come up. Not what I’m looking for but thank you!

  3. I started a clothing no-buy today, too. I still have several items coming in the mail as I’ve been “preparing” for this for the past couple weeks, lol. I haven’t decided yet whether it’s just for the month of April or whether I will extend it for several months.

When I moved over a year ago, I didn’t sort through my clothes before I packed them. I’m finally unpacking the last of the bins and sorting items for charity donations. I feel like I should sell some things but I don’t know if I want to deal with that. I have a couple pairs of Quoddy boots and some Ferragamo silk scarves that I can’t bring myself to put in the Goodwill box.

    1. Our local hospital has a thrift store that sells nicer things as hospital benefit. Maybe you can find similar.

  4. Sort of glad to see I’m not alone. I mean I don’t even know if I will be successful with this. I would like to just stop buying for the sake of buying and be more mindful about it.

    1. Oh, you're not alone at all! I've been following a couple of pages on Facebook where people are decluttering and minimizing. I am finding those readings very inspirational. I purchased two books, and have just finished one, which was also very helpful: "The More of Less" by Joshua Becker and "Project 333" by Courtney Carver. Both of those authors have blogs, of course.

    2. Mmejacquiline, thank you. I will look these up. I am also part of a few groups and follow some people. I just have a slightly more fluid approach to my minimalism. 😜

  5. I had a dry JC run through the fall last year, but I've picked up 1-2 pieces a month since January so far. Mostly shoes, tees, joggers (aka WFH clothes) and a bathing suit that I regret buying now on FS because I should have tried my bathing suits first to see if I needed a new suit. Oh well. As this is my birthday month, I have a birthday reward to spend, so I will have to find something to buy. After that, I don't see any need to buy any more clothes, because I will finally be able to wear the warm weather office clothes I bought last year.
