J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. My review of Margot jumper versus Boden and Alex mill. I purchased the grey Margot Item AM146 in size small. The length is longer than tippi 1/2 inch, sleeves are slightly longer but did not come to my wrists, the neckline is higher and more matronly. Grey is a dull grey. The merino is soft, thin and not scratchy.
Alex Mill claire (Merino+cashmere), Item #6116190 in grey from Nordis on sale for 50% off. Its too tight for me. The fabric is softer than JCrew, sleeve length is longer comes to my wrist and slight puffed, also neckline was lower, overall length is much shorter. Worked on my short torso, but might be too boxy and short on longer torsos. The grey is much brighter than Jcrew. Would purchase small but will wait for sale.
Last Boden Stowe Merino, K0365-NE. I got this on sale and with a coupon came to $60. Otherwise its $120. Its the nicest knit of all 3, soft, not scratchy, thicker than JCrew Margot and Tippi from 2019. The sleeves are 3/4, puffed, length for my short torso was perfect, neckline isn't as high as Margot. I purchased Oatmeal and love the color.
Overall I loved the Boden the most. Hope this helps anyone looking for Tippi replacement. I haven't found the exact one yet. MY measurements BTW are: 33-26-35", height 5.7" I have no torso, so short and boxy work for me.

  2. I agree that the Margot looks matronly. It reminds me of LLBean or Talbot cardigans - a bit older, more conservative looking.
I love my Boden cardigans. I got a cropped cashmere cardigan a few years ago and the length was perfect for my petite frame. It was very sweet with dresses. Best part was within a month or two of receiving it, I noticed the inside collar was pilling badly - way more than should after 3-4 wears. I emailed Boden, and they promptly suggested I return mine in exchange for a new one, same color and size. I did, and I've been wearing it for the past few years with no further problems. Much better quality than JC cashmere from similar years.

    1. Eeps, I don’t wear a lot of cardigans I prefer crew necks. Did you handwash or dry clean your Boden? I have started spraying with laundress between wears as suggested by ladies here. I dry clean every 3-4 wears.

    2. I never dry clean my cashmere anymore. I hand wash with Laundress soap or Tocca delicates soap, and dry flat on my dry rack.

    3. Okay good to know. Do you hand wash merino too? I have laundress but too nervous to wash my endangered jcrew cashmere from prior to
      2013.

    4. I wash most merino on delicate in a front loader and it comes out perfect.

    5. I always wash with laundress shampoo and lay out to dry on a towel! I think better then dry clean! Also use wool/cashmere spray on btwn wears!

    6. Yes, I second the use of the Laundress on pre-2013 cashmere sweaters. I roll my wet sweaters in warm towels from the dryer to hasten the process. My sweaters from 2007-2013 have stayed smooth and lacking in pills. I even got deodorant stains out of a silk-cashmere black sweater after the dry cleaners had failed.

  3. Hey everyone! I have reviews! Today I received the ruffle front midi dress, button front skirt in plaid, vintage pj set in pink with dark pink piping, long pencil skirt, and pink/blue button down.

Keep: button front midi. This one is really nice. A good length (even for 5’10 me without a tall option) and cute pattern. No elastic waist, pockets, and cute button detail. It’s not sewn shut between buttons but the skirt doesn’t seem to gap so I don’t think it will be an issue. But if it makes me uncomfortable, it’s a super easy fix for a tailor.

Pink/blue button down. Love the longer length! I ordered up a size to get a more slouchy look. It did feel a bit like my husband’s work shirt so styling will be important but I think I can make this work.

Maybe: vintage pjs. I bought this set for the top to wear with the button front midis in plaid and liberty. With the plaid skirt it looks like a 50s costume gone wrong. Will hold until liberty skirt comes. Maybe that combo will feel more fresh and modern. We’ll see.

Return: ruffle front midi dress. Cute cut and lovely fabric but cut small in the bust. May consider ordering up a size but for now just a return.

Also returning the long pencil skirt. It’s such a nice length but I ordered up a size and it’s huge. May run big overall. Might consider a reorder but don’t feel compelled to as of now. It’s a long while before spring temps when I could wear it.

Still waiting on ratti pj tops and liberty skirt.

    1. Thanks for the reviews. I liked the colors on that button-up shirt, and the longer length. I usually do best with fitted shirts, but I will keep an eye on this one.

    3. Just curious. What color of the long pencil skirt did you order? Was the color what you thought it would be?

    4. Hi ST! I ordered the coral color. I thought the color was exactly as pictured. A nice coral that isn’t too bright and for me would be a great neutral. I think this would be a skirt and color lots of people will love. For me, because I’m curvier on my lower half I don’t really like wearing bright colors for bottoms unless the item is structured.. I do wish it was lined and had more structure and then I’d definitely keep it. That would cost more but I’d pay it!
