"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Anyone else having trouble sorting or using the category filter option in the sale section?

    1. I can't choose "shirts and tops" category. Every time I chose it, it unchose automatically.

    2. I was having the same problem last night.

    3. I can’t choose anything from the sale section in safari. No categories come up at all.

  2. Received email from J Crew Factory announcing new arrivals. Saw a few things I'm interested in but the prices! The striped s/s sweater top is $52 ON SALE. It's Factory, not retail. Crazy.

    1. @shopalot - I was able to stack the "soextra" and "carkperks" together to get the sale prices down. The Vanessa sweater jacked came down to I think $37 and maybe $52 for the cream sweater blazer -- both were too high for me without a promo.

    2. Laura, thanks! I will try those codes together.

  3. What is the deal with reviews??? I STILL can't write a product review on the JC website. It looks like other people can. Does anyone know what is going on?

    1. I tried to write a review on the 10" high rise denim in Flaxflower and the rise is too high, not flattering. Maybe they knew I would write that? I don't know but I can't leave a review.

  4. @unknown, I find this interesting and don’t understand why; wondering if you have made purchases? Every time I have made a purchase I receive an email for review of the items. I would contact CS and raise the question and also comment on the fact. I have not replied or reviewed recently and I have more faith with the comments from all of the JCA’s here. I suppose I should do the company a favor and write some reviews on the website and see if they post. FYI, I work with a VPS who is excellent and I always provide feedback positive or negative directly to her regarding fit, quality and items. She makes notes and then also sends them to another dept.

  5. Same here. Jcrew doesn’t like Safari:) Quite annoying, used Firefox.

  6. I believe JCrew now selectively sends out emails soliciting reviews (perhaps, after one holds on to purchases and would therefore be less likely to give a negative feedback?). I received one invite few weeks ago. It was for a specific clothing item that i purchased earlier.
Otherwise, yes, there is no way to leave a review on the website. And lack of reviews has stopped me from purchasing. It is tricky to figure out things like pants or dresses without trying them on or without any feedback. And given the charge of returns, I am not willing to gamble.

    1. I purchase from JC and keep many of my purchases and I have never received an invitation to review products. I used to review frequently (mostly positively) as I appreciate reviews and find them helpful in purchasing. I have not been able to write a review for at least 6 months. I think this is a rotten policy and makes me question the reviews in general if they are only from "select" individuals.

  7. For anyone following along, I got my Everlane leather pants. Two vents—
They’re too loose. They didn’t make these in a 00 and although the 0 fits, a size down would be more flattering.
The legs are slightly uneven. One leg is slightly narrower at the ankle than the other. If I finagled it’s it might not be noticeable but it is. This is not the first time I’ve had an uneven pant leg issue so I made sure to measure every direction before I started measuring myself.
If you are looking for a nice pair of leather pants I think they’re a great value. The leather is soft, they’re fully lined and the cut is classic. I could see them costing double. If I could get my size I’d deal with the leg issue or it might not even be noticeable.

    1. Too bad! You'll find the perfect pair someday, consider the hunt as fun.

Personal vent: I have uneven calves, so if I got a pair of pants that matched up it would be great. But awful if it went the other way.

    2. Assuming you can get a pair with even legs, would it be worth having them altered to fit? I know leather alterations can be pricey, but might be worth it in this instance.

    3. I have two pairs I like already and now I’m obsessed. I don’t need them. 😆

If I could get away with just altering the waist it might be ok, but the size is now sold out and with the lining and leather itself it would be cost prohibitive I assume.

  8. @Anonymous, I believe you may have hit the nail on the head. I went back and viewed all purchases and returns and sure enough the items I kept I received an email review invite. Certainly not fair to consumers if their reviews are biased. I agree it’s very tricky trying to find a pair of pair pants or dress as many reviews are subjective as a a couple of Jcrew bloggers who basically lie through their teeth about how wonderful items, look like hell, etc. and getting comped for their reviews. On this website not one JCA has steered me wrong which is why I’m grateful to everyone who posts here. My store closed 2 years ago and I’ve had to rely on my VPS or others here. I must admit though I ve been spending a lot of time south here in the Boca, Miami and Aventura area and selections and SA’s are fantastic, truthful and give you their honest opinion when asked about details. I always manage to locate or know someone who is the same size as me so it’s easy picking up the phone.

  9. The Matelesse Jacket arrived and it is very cute BUT it is 99 percent poly. I cannot believe this is not cotton. It would have been a huge hit with me but the fabric feels gross - words can't really describe. Why would they not make this in cotton? Huge huge mistake. Going back. And there was no receipt with my order. None.

    1. sega61, that is very disappointing. 99% poly - no thanks. J Crew wants us to go online and "start a return" - you can print out a return form with a bar code if you are taking to the store or to enclose with your mail return. It has been hit or miss as far as receiving invoices in my packages. Gap/BR no longer put invoices in the packages if the order comes from the warehouse. You're supposed to save the packaging, which has a barcode for return.

  10. Also frustrated with the new "limited access" reviews. I want to try the new Hayden kickout crop but no reviews keeps stopping me. Anyone tried these?
