J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. CARDLOVE plus retail me not code (dbc256517209194) still gives all the discounts.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for my wallet) I won't be taking advantage of it.

I also decided to return the Button-front linen midi dress in faded indigo stripe item: L2571... My normal dress size is snug in the rib cage but next size up is too large all over. I reminded myself I'm going to only keep what I absolutely love. If I have to spend a ton of money on alterations, then it's just not my dress.

    1. I was going to comment yesterday. I’m having a similar issue with the roaming tiger shirt dress. I wish it was more tailored/structured, but that’s not an inexpensive alteration. I don’t know it’s worth it to spend just as much on alterations as I did on the dress itself. I probably should have just passed on it too.

  2. OT: Help! The red silk heart shirt - navy or black? I can’t tell!

    1. Thanks, Suz! It’s J Crew navy, right?!!! 😂🤣

    2. The hearts are trimmed in black, so there’s black and navy.

    3. Tara, do you mean the hearts are navy and there’s an outline of black around it?

    4. I want to wear a navy cardigan with the red silk heart shirt. I'm guessing if I can't tell if the outline is navy or black, no one else will be able to tell.

    5. @Suz Has, yes, that’s what I meant. @shopalot you can definitely wear a navy cardigan. That’s how I’ve worn the top and the dress.

  3. My order with dress in Liberty Kayoko print has arrived yesterday. The print is more vibrant in real life. The dress is lined and fits true to size. It looks good with belt and without belt. I also managed to order size 14 silk-twill button-up shirt in jungle print instead of size 4 :( Now I have a return.

    1. Wow, that's quite a mistake! How did that happen?

    2. I have no idea. Now I'm hoping that there will be another 50% off or store would have a size for exchange. No plans to visit the store for at least a month from now.

    3. there's been a few times i almost checked out with a super wrong size... my guess is that the mobile site (for me) is just jumpy and i think i hit size 4 but the site jumps and i actually added a size 14 or something.

    4. Lately I've noticed my selection jumping from my original size choice; you have to be really careful when ordering. It's no fun doing exchanges when your local store has closed, that's for sure. I really, really miss my store and it has been closed for several years.

    5. Well life just showed me what it means to be ironic. I received the Point Sur paper bag pants today that I bought to wear with last year’s Ratti elephant top. I got the top in december in a bigger size (4) for a better fit. When I got it, I took the tags off and washed it, stored it away for the winter. Today I pulled it out to try with the new pants and looked at the tag... and it’s a size 14. I looked up my order history and I did order a 4... but didn’t notice I got a 14 instead. This is so sad it’s funny.

    6. Bring it back! What the heck. Hell no.

      Delete
    7. How? It’s been 4 months... and I took the tag off. I don’t think they’ll take it back, no?

    8. I’d reach out to CS. it was their error. What do you have to lose aside from the wrong size shirt? I’ve received new items without tags BTW, so I don’t think that’s a dealbreaker.

    9. success with CS! they refunded me and im sending it back. thanks for the suggestion!

    1. They had the shirt a week ago. It's a new arrival, L1856. I didn't buy it from the store right away since deal online was a lot better.

    2. Oh it's the new version! I thought it was the version from holiday 2018. They should totally be able to exchange for your size without paying $ difference!

  5. I need to cool it on buying jeans but this new work dress code has me wanting all the jeans in every shade. Haha. I have the light blue eco wash toothpicks in my cart and debating if I should purchase. My Everlane jeans come on Friday and I have my reorder of the point sur hightower straight jeans coming this week and then I'll do some returns. Send help...

    1. I feel ya. I look forward to hearing how those Everlane ones fit. Which cut did you get? FWIW last year I got lighter wash toothpicks and I don’t reach for them.

    2. Yes, they arrive Friday and I will report back. I went with the cheeky straight (not the 90's version). Holding off on the others for now, I think you're right, I will transition to white skinnies most likely and light wash boyfriend style for summer :)

  6. I can't be the ONLY person in America trying to check out and cannot due to one error or another!

  7. I was unable to resist the lure of the turquoise and navy silk tiger blouse, but I am very disappointed the tigers do not line up at the button placket. That, to me, is the epitome of looking cheap.

How does everyone else feel about this?

    1. I own this one and am a big fan! I don't really mind a few half tigers here and there - didn't notice it until you mentioned it. There's so much going on with this print: the cats, the grass, the purple, the blue, the sheen of the silk, etc., that a few chopped up tigers here and there aren't a dealbreaker for me. I bought the pants in the same print and have been using the matching belt as a neck scarf -- something to consider if you want to camouflage the chopped up cats... :)

    2. Yep, bugs me too. I ordered quite a few of them last season and picked the best one. I LOVE the colors in this year's version but I found it tighter across the chest than prior colorways...anyone else notice that?

    3. @EllieB, I feel better that you didn't notice it. It's so lovely - the colors! Ah, if only there were a matching thin scarf, that would be perfect.
@Alyssa, that is probably what I'll do. I resisted the prior colorways but this one I simply must own.

  8. Re: Liberty perfect fit shirts
Anyone else noticing the cut is different on the newer version? Sleeves are much roomier, more exaggerated shirttail and shorter?

  9. I noticed they are shorter. And they are now made in madagascar.

  10. My order placed on April 5 arrived!
    - Sleeveless cowlneck top: It was a bit big and boxy for my liking.
    - Wide-leg crop pants in 365 crepe: I love the kelly green but I just can't find a way to pull off the wide leg pants :(. Very comfortable though thanks to the elastic waist in the back. Maybe I just need the right top?
    - Tie-waist shirt: I like the look in the front but the back is kinda sloppy with all the extra fabric.
    - Tie-neck dress in green: I love the bow at the neck! Sadly I ordered a petite one and I think I'd prefer the regular length.
    - Suede smoking slippers in Fiery sunset: they were only $14 so I bit even though they were final sale. They're alright, but somehow the lining seems kinda stiff compared to my Jcrew loafers from a few years back... I'm hoping they would soften a bit with wear.

  11. My eco ponte v-neck top came yesterday with the point sur shoreditch straight in bright worn wash. I am a 6 on top and went with a medium in the top - the body is fine, arms are a tad big, top was $16, I may see how much it would cost to alter slightly since it's a great top. The v-neck is extremely flattering - it's low but with one of my regular non plunge/lift bras my cleavage was completely tasteful. Will definitely wear on the evenings/weekends in the summer with white jeans or a denim skirt and sandals but I probably wouldn't wear it to work.

The jeans are high rise (I think 11") and a size down from my usual size was perfect - they are a straight leg, a little loose and maybe an inch above my ankle. They're very similar to the madewell slim straight I bough recently but I think they're keepers for the price. They seem VERY stretchy though (95% cotton/3% poly/2% elastane) so I'm wondering how they will wear over the course of the day. Denim is thicker too. They fit my waist and curvy fiugre perfectly though and aren't super tight in the legs. Wash is darker with a fade in the front.

    1. Anne, thank you for the review on the point sur shoreditch straight jeans. I've been considering them and will probably order next time there is an extra percent off sale. My office just went to all jeans all the time dress code so I need more non-distressed denim.

  12. I received the Point Sur paperbag waist pants, in petite. I'm 5'1 and even petite length it is full length for me. I thought the material would be like a chino (it's khaki colored) but it's more like a silky cotton/poly. I didn't anticipate how smooth and COMFORTABLE it would be!! It has an elastic waist and since it's high-waisted, it is a little tighter and sitting higher than I expected but the elastic thankfully has give and I don't feel like a stuffed turkey. I cannot get over how soft and comfy the fabric is. I look like I have a huge butt (high waist, elastic, soft fabric, wide pants... short frame) but I plan to wear them on weekends anyway so... #bigbutt #dontcare.

    1. I am glad to see your review! What do you think of the sizing? I wasn't sure if I would take my regular size or size down. I like that I could wear these to work, or on the weekends. Love when my clothes can do double duty.
I'm sure your butt looks fab! ;)
