J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. New items are up if you search by item type. I’m in major, major trouble. Lots of pretty things.

  2. The first thing I saw was the Linen spaghetti-strap tea dress in Ratti® tropical toile... And I love it!!! But it's $248?! :(

  3. I don't think this is my J Crew year style wise, I'm not having a lot of luck with the spring/summer rollout so far. So many patterns I like but not the clothes.

    1. Same, TeriLynn. I think it's a bad time for me in terms of the silhouettes. The midis are too long, the wide-leg pants too wide (and not cropped enough), and I haaaaate those Judy Jetson sleeves and can't believe they keep bringing them back. They're probably super cheap to make since there's little/no tailoring.

    2. Same. Not into midis, nor the shape of these wide legs. I also cannot stand the sleeves. That's what's killing the Ratti toile blouse for me. Do not wear fluuter sleeves, do not wear sleeves with elastic at the hem, and do not wear those wide open cuffed sleeves either.
I guess I am out of style!

    3. Still not the old JC aesthetic.

    4. Agree with you all, don't care for the styles. Some of the prints are pretty. Would love a short sleeved perfect shirt in Liberty or Ratti. Also would like a printed cotton or linen sweater like J Crew used to do. My shoulders are too broad for flutter sleeves or the Judy Jetson type (thanks, silver_lining!) Did see a few printed vintage cotton tees that I'll probably order. Please NO more word tees.

    5. But they now have word sweatshirts. What will be next?

    6. I would LOVE printed sweaters in natural materials. I would make that my uniform and wear them every day to the office.

    7. I would love prints that are something other than Ratti and Liberty. I don't mind them here and there but I miss J.Crew's unique prints!

    8. Cheritheberry - EXACTLY! I would buy them all and wear every.single.day.

    9. Climbing aboard the #NotThisTime wagon. The midi and wide leg silhouettes don’t work for me, and a lack of prints means I won’t be grabbing any new Tippis or pencil skirts. Very glad I snagged a few great printed Tippis last year, and eBay continues to be my source for classic J.Crew printed pencil skirts. I miss the printed cotton sweaters! It will be too warm for merino soon.

    10. @shopgrrrl Also on board, I miss the prints! I like midis but also need to wear a bra so some of the necklines/straps are a bit impractical for me.
Also, I am pretty busty so word anything is a no for me, I really don't want to encourage people to look at where the words are located, if you know what I mean!

  4. Love the leopard print blouse!

  5. Review of white slingbacks pumps in leather.
I searched high and low and tried about half a dozen styles before realizing at the right price these are a good option.
The white is soft, not stark and not too bone. I usually go for a more funky shape but the heel gives it some interest. I literally tried them on everything from jeans, slim pants, wide leg pants and above the knee skirts and Everything looks good. They can be dressed up or down.
I did size up to a 9 in these (my heels vary between 8.5/9).
Why did I want white pumps, I have no idea, but the only other one I liked which was a lot more $ and slightly more casual were the Everlane ones. I don’t need to walk miles in these and they seem like they’ll be fine for walking a few blocks.
I noticed for spring they’re also available in deep gold and hot pink suede. The red leather is also really pretty.

    1. As far as new arrivals, my summer wardrobe is so casual, the only thing I even need to consider would be breezy tanks/tees. I like the sweater tank and happy to see it in black this year so hope to add that. I like some the prints and hope they’ll do a bandana or other accessory. I like some of the espadrilles and sneakers.

  6. Happy to see some pretty prints in the new arrivals! Love the Ratti Tropical Toile. There is linen and silk. Spaghetti-strap and one-shoulder dresses don’t suit my lifestyle, but this is a good rollout. Prices are high, but I think these items will sell.

  7. Just used the PROMO: DBC256517209194 and it worked! 15% off full price and sale.

    1. darn it's not working for me...tried over and over and on different browsers. Also have another code that won't work...remember when they sent a stackable 25% off after all the holiday shipping delays? It expires today and mine won't work at checkout. Don't even feel like bothering with (another) message to CS at this point. sigh. Hoping for a nice % off sale tomorrow for the 1st of May. :)

    2. Just tried the code and does not work.... how did you get it to work for you.... thanks

  8. Thanks for the heads up on the 15% code. I had the white leather tretorns in my cart ($32) and that got me to purchase. I also picked up the packable straw hat.

Re: new arrivals - there are a few things that I like and we just booked a fall trip to Portugal and I'm thinking several of the dresses may be perfect but I'm going to do my best to wait for better sales. I'm still in tights and a sweater today and wearing a coat so it's probably another month or so before the summer clothes can even think of making an appearance.

  10. I ordered such random items from that last sale they’re still arriving. Today I received the block heel ankle strap pumps in Stewart plaid. I remembered the 8.5 was tight so I ordered the 9 which is loose. I also got the pointy toe flat plaid shoes withthe black bow, after the holidays and in comparison, I prefer the color of those and the style with pants so these are prob going back.

  11. Ooooh me likey a lot of the new arrivals! I'm wishlisting more stuff than I have in the past year and a half!
I like the Ratti cheetah print. The wrap dress and blouse are not my style though.
I like the tiered maxi dress in shirting stripes. For some reason, this one appeals to me more than the previous iterations of striped maxi dresses.
I like the pleated midi skirt in art deco print. I think all the colors can make it very versatile. Would love to see a model photo.
Love the bracelet-sleeve linen Tippi sweater in sail, but I have a feeling it will be see-through.
Love the pointed-toe woven sandals with ankle strap in white. I love the idea of a woven pointed-toe. I had a pair of woven leather pointed-toe flats many years ago and wore them to death. They were so unique.
I'm usually not into JC jewelry (not since the Lulu Frost collab ended), but I love the crystal floral drop earrings in the pink and blue. They have a vintage 1950s costume jewelry vibe.
Like the button-front mini skirt in stretch seersucker, but need it to be longer than 17.5" for a woman my age! Hoping there is a tall version.
Everyday cashmere crewneck sweater with floral embroidery is pretty but also mumsy looking on the model. I feel like you can find similar in the mature women's section at Macy's? I'd love to see it styled younger.
When was the slim sleeveless perfect shirt in stretch cotton released?!?! I've been looking for a collared sleeveless button down all my life!

    Notes:
Silk floral shift dress with flutter sleeves looks like a hospital gown or a smock.
Yikes - the short-sleeve silk TENCEL™ crewneck sweater in the model photo is sheer.
Midi slip skirt in grid floral - I don't understand the design logic behind adding those horizontal lines. They're at the hips and thighs. Why does JC want to draw attention to that?

    1. LOL great point - silk shift dress is awful!

Overall I like this rollout. No it's not old J. Crew but it's a lot closer I think. I would love to see a few more old-fashioned J. Crew items. For example I would have liked to see something like the silk ruffle halter in a more wearable cut (i.e., not so low cut at the arms and not with the huge bustle bow tie).

    2. Silk floral flutter sleeve dress looks like something my physically impaired 80 year old grandmother would have worn in the 1980s.

  12. This is my 1st introduction to the Sophie Anderson line and I LOVE IT as much as I am in love with the Thelma loafers that I am afraid to buy b/c of sizing. Thank you JC for the intro! Not sure if I am in love with a whole lot more but I did see a few things that I liked.

  13. Also, I received the roasted leather riding boots. I caught them on major sale and figured that I would try them since my size was glaring me in the face. They arrived today and I am not sure how I feel about them. The reviews were 50/50, and that's how I am feeling at this very moment, not sure what to think even for the price that I paid. I know the warm sun has my mind off winter boots but I keep saying that if I am having this type of 2nd thought, I might need to return them and call it a day.

    1. I received the black riding boots 1/2 size up from my usual. I wanted to allow for winter socks. I'd say for the price I paid ($28) this is a great deal. The calves are quite large, which allows room for high socks and a pair of jeans. I have a pair of heeled boots I wear with my sweater dresses, this gives me a pair for casual. I did not want over-the-knee boots as I'm not sure they fit in with my personal style (and over 21 age). Though I was tempted by the flat over-the-knee boots. But I'm afraid I'd look like I had Evangeline Lilly "Tauriel" aspirations.

    2. Same for me, I couldn't press the order button fast enough for that $28 sale!! Sounds like you have big plans for the boots and that they will do well for you but I am still on the fence even for such a great price. I'll work it out. And, I have also held out on the "OTK" boot craze for the same reasons, twinning :>) The SW 50/50 have caught my eye when on sale but I have yet to own a pair.

  14. over $300 worth of returns for me this week...liberty tie waist dress...should be called "tie bra line" dress. the elastic waist is LITERALLY at my bra line. im 5'7". same for the geo lace dress...so short waisted and cut for a petite. strings all over the place. the sundress w ruffles is just too..ruffled. overwhelms me. this might be my last j crew order in some time....

  15. What the heck. I was just looking at the sweater tank. First of all, it’s a new arrival but final sale. Secondly, I magnified the black to see the texture. The label is upside down. Does no one notice these things?
So I won’t be buying it after all, at least until it’s not final sale.

    1. That's pretty funny, it only happened on the black one. I bet the final sale is a holdover from the last time they had this item and they probably were marked down and on final sale. Too bad they didn't leave the old price too.

  16. Does anybody have a 25% off code that expires tonight that they are not going to use? If you don't mind sharing, my email is bankygirl @ gmail. I never got one because for some reason, J. Crew removed me from their mailing list. TIA!

  17. Reviews.
    Pointed-toe slingback flats in suede
    Item: J8207
    Color: BLACK
I liked these when they came out but did I really need another pair of black flats? I love my CAPTOE slingbacks in snakeskin print and wear them to death. They look good with almost everything and are comfortable. I tried these in the 8.5 in the metallic but they were a little tight. The fit on these is better and the black is more versatile. The shape is modern and retro at the same time, a little edgy. I’m tempted to get the snakeskin version too since the CAPTOE ones are a little worse for the wear.

I also got two liberty bandanas in the Pavillion and White Garden prints. The pavillion print doesn’t show up as well when worn around the neck due to the scale of the print, and the cotton is not as fine as the White Garden, but as a fun summer accessory they’re both keepers.

    1. I just got these shoes, as well (I'm wearing them right now!) - I really like them. I bought them in a 7.5 (instead of my usual 7) - I think 1/2 size up works better for me in slingbacks.

I also ordered them in the leopard and in the snakeskin - haven't worn those yet.

    2. I havent worn them but my favorite try on is with a wide leg crop.

  18. Wow, such an awesome blog you have written there and you and I get exactly what information I am looking for, in the third paragraph you put amazing effort to explain the theme of the content. As a content writer, I can understand efforts because when students ask me for chcece020 assessment answers, I do the same.
