This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.
If
you have recently experienced a
frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe
you might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Please
feel free to share your story on almost
any topic— including poor experiences with
purchases & orders, promotions/ offers,
in-store visits, transactions with store
associates, etc.
Well, new arrivals are up and almost everything I clicked on is already sold out! Is that for real or some kind of glitch? Also, a pair of shorts that I ordered just last month and received the dreaded "we wish we had more" email are back online at full price (of course). I ordered them for $13.99 and now they are $45. I'll be calling tomorrow about that!
ReplyDeleteFollow up on my rant: I just talked to CS at Jcrew and they price matched the price of the cancelled shorts and waived shipping for me. We'll see if I get them this time...
DeleteI was very disappointed with my recent order from JCrew. I ordered the CeCe Suede Flats in Fresh Plum and CrewCuts socks in size Large. I purchased these with a 30% online discount from the Sale section.
ReplyDeleteThe shoes arrived and I was not impressed to see that the left shoe was much darker than the right shoe. At first I thought it was due to the pile of the suede. Sometimes suede looks lighter or darker depending on which way the pile is brushed. But upon closer inspection, the left shoe had a more pink tone to it, which made the left shoe look lighter. I don't know if perhaps the left shoe was on display in a window somewhere or what but I was not impressed. So I sent them back, at cost to me of about $20 shipping. In canada its expensive to ship.
The socks were a disappointment after the first wash! When they arrived I tried them on, and they fit perfectly. I have small feet so I can fit into kids socks quite well. I put them in the wash, and followed the care instructions. Wash in cold water etc. When I took them out of the wash to hang dry, they were tiny. They had shrunk in the wash! I followed the care instructions precisely so I KNOW that it was not due to not following the washing instructions. I have not returned these, as it would not be worth the cost of postage to send these back. I just have 3 pairs of tiny socks now.
Regardless of the fact that I bought these items on sale, I would have expected much better quality AND quality control. How can JCrew put good like these out to sell?
Overall, I am really disappointed at the lack of quality of JCrew products. The quality has been going down hill for awhile now. I doubt I will shop with them again anytime soon, and I have been a pretty good customer.
If you phone customer service and explain what happened with the shoes, they will likely refund your shipping costs.
DeleteI hate how the sales aren't linear and I hate myself for biting on some final sale items in the past. For example, I got the Peter Pan Merino Sweater in Stripe (http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/sweaters/Pullover/PRDOVR~36078/36078.jsp) at 30% off, final sale. Fast forward almost two months later and I see it on the sales rack for $49.99--while an additional 30% off everything sale is happening! Gah! Final sale should not apply to items that are going through the first round of price cuts!!!
ReplyDeleteOh well, I guess maybe this is a blessing in disguise and will teach me to never buy anything from J. Crew that isn't like 70% off its original price.
I agree-- I think "final sale" at J Crew is a misnomer. "Final Sale" should mean "this sale is final, it is the final markdown, if it doesn't sell we're giving it to the homeless guy on the corner." Alas. I've also been suckered into buying things only to find them significantly marked down further a week or two later.
DeleteIn 3 words: 3 inch shorts!
ReplyDelete^^ this!!!!
DeleteI am really getting tired of receiving defective/wrong items. Get it together, J.Crew! It won't stop me from ordering popbacks, because it is not a big deal to send items back using their return shipping label (for free, 'cause it's their fault), but it is sad when the wrong item arrives or it is defective.
ReplyDeleteI guess it stopped me. We all have different tolerances on what we can handle and just the pure emotional frustration when I opened the boxes to see if what I ordered was correct or not got to me too much. I haven't ordered a popback in years.
DeleteI'm tired of the poor quality..I just returned the matchstick white jeans. I was stunned when I tried them on and could see my skin through the material. Seriously, the denim is so thin that my skin was visible through the jeans- not just a hint of skin, but MY SKIN! The lining of the front pockets was also very noticeable and looked terrible. My old JC white denim, even the matchsticks from a year or two ago don't have this issue. How much could they possibly save by making the white denim almost sheer? I'm done with JC jeans. I also returned the "fleece" sweatshirt. Not fleece, cheap cotton. Old Navy is better quality.
ReplyDeleteJ.Crew's website is so outdated. I don't understand why there aren't the following:
ReplyDelete-Rollovers (I don't have time to open a new window, then click on the plus sign to make it bigger, then move the image around to see different parts)
-"Quick Looks" (similar to gap, I would like to be able to quickly click on an image and see what sizes/colors are available)
-REVIEWS! (I need to know how something fits!)
And in regards to shipping:
-I would order WAY more if shipping was free both ways. Gives you the freedom to try more things out (and potentially keep more!)
-Bring back SmartLabels that work with either UPS or USPS. I live overseas but have access to DPO. I can only send things back via USPS. So every time I order from them, return shipping is on me.
-I LOVE crewcuts, but the boys shirt sizing is totally off. The size 3 shirts barely fit my son when he was 3 (too tight), but the size 4-5 shirts are so long that they are just now fitting him at age 4 1/2. There definitely needs to be a separate size 4 and 5.
J. Crew cashmere: in the past I have always gotten it on sale, but it is still expensive. It starts to pill VERY early on-and everywhere! I will never buy J. Crew cashmere again.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the website really needs to have customer reviews? Are they afraid that someone might say something negative?!
I love J. Crew pants, they have a nice fit for me.
ReplyDeleteI always buy same models.
As I'm from another country, and I'been buying pants shipped to my sister's in U. S., in this case during the last months I bought six Capri pants, cotton and wool, ALL the same sizes but they are ALL big in comparisson with the one I have, and they all have different measures. So..as one of the girls said... I contact them.. they just sent me the measures, apologizes, and..told me that from time to time they change manufacturers..and could cause this.
That is..JC is not selling NTTS, a bigger sweater, tee, ok. but.. supposed same Sizes all different? thank you all for sharing all these. The Best!!
