It is a destination catalog!!! I cannot wait to see what other scenic sights of Tokyo will fill the pages.
I know some of you are not huge fans of the current Fall line from J.Crew. I get it. Even though the whole Fall collection is not a-ma-zing (like previous Fall seasons), there are still some great pieces that stand out. I am thinking about a few blazers...
Honestly, I am ready for Fall. I cannot wait to start wearing jackets and button down shirts.
Lastly, fellow JCAs are reporting that the latest batch of new arrivals should be coming this week. How exciting! :)
What are your thoughts? Has your opinion on the upcoming line changed? Are you looking forward to the upcoming new arrivals?
I like that the catalog was shot in Tokyo, but I'm still not very excited about the clothes. I like the jeweled collar blazer but I agree with Slastena's assessment that it's going to be passé very soon.
ReplyDeleteNice that they went on location to Tokyo. I will have to wait to see the catalog to judge myself. Can't wait for online's roll-out. Thanks Slastena and Alexis for the new updates! PS: that python skirt is ridic. Yes it's fashion forward but it it's over the top, screams obnoxious 'look at me I can afford the python skirt' , and the styling with the green turtle neck doesn't work, I like how it looks on the collection photo shoot better with the blue cashmere sweater and suede pumps.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love Tokyo, it's been years since we went, but it was such an amazing trip! I am definitely looking forward to armchair traveling with J. Crew. :)
ReplyDeleteI especially love the image of the model next to the train wearing the slim trench. She looks so polished and pretty!
I have to say this bird on clothing trend is certainly ubquitious this season. I have an identical silk blouse from Pure Collection as the one in the last image. That said, J. Crew's are hens, while Pure Collection's look more like house sparrows and is on a slightly smaller scale.
"discovered in a designer's sketchbook" made me think they raided Marissa Webb's desk before she left. Lol!
ReplyDeleteNice to see them do a location shoot, but they really seem to have run out of styling ideas. It's just the same thing over and over and over. I'm bored, Nina Garcia is bored, Michael Kors is thinking up similes to describe how bored he is.
ReplyDeleteI will try the purple wool dress, although that deep v-neck looks to deliver a bit too much ooh la la.
Thanks for this sneak peek. Alexis I agree, I'm ready for fall! I was able to wear one of my J Crew Robert Noble blazers yesterday and it was great (the Collection patterned tweed from last year).
ReplyDeleteBut this new stuff... I don't see anything I like one bit, I can't believe it. That second outfit with the green turtleneck and ill-fitting patterned skirt is just terrible! The purple shift dress looks too low-cut and too short!
I lived in Tokyo for a year and recently went back for two weeks. I am thrilled to see familiar places and sites. Hopefully I'll soon be able to wear some jackets and and sweaters. Fall is the best season for clothing and I'm ready for it.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a couple of these pieces featured in magazines and they are EXPENSIVE! That beige peter pan collar sweater with little crystals on it (in the shape of flowers) is $500.00. And that snake skirt was very expensive too. Again....I probably won't be excited about much of it, but I reserve judgment until I see the catalog.
ReplyDeleteI saw the python skirt in the collection store on friday. I believe it was $1800. I was just horrified at how wasteful it is to spend $1800 on a python skirt.
DeleteOn another note, the sequin bow top they were asking over $1200 for has now had its regular price lowered (not marked down, they actually edited the price) to ~800. I guess they realized they were overreaching on that one.
Barf, $1800. What is going on with J.Crew? It's very alienating with these 'Collection' pieces and exclusivity. I love the price points for the little people (majority of their customers), but these over the top prices just irks me. Leave that for the high-end retailers to sell - Barneys, Neimans, Bergdorfs...I guess someone can waste $1800. on a made in china snake skirt.
DeleteI'm ready for fall too, but disappointed about this fall vs. last fall. Marissa Webb is SORELY missed! I just don't know what they're thinking about with some of these pieces. The color blocks are awful!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteITA, some of the stuff is pretty darn awful. Like Lucido coat and bug pin awful.
DeleteHas anyone seen or heard anything about the 3/4 jacket/coat in brown houndstooth that was in the Fall preview, I think around look #25? The model had it folded over her shoulder?
ReplyDeleteAnyone know when the new arrivals are coming? I heard September 10 (today), confirmed by one of my stores a couple weeks ago. But as of this weekend, my other store knew nothing about it.
ReplyDeleteI actually was hoping that when the new arrivals hit, other stuff would be marked down...I'm looking at you sterling skirt in acorn.
OT - J.Crew will showcase their Spring 2013 collection tomorrow at NY Fashion Week. If any JCA's are curious what Tom Mora designed for Spring..I'm sure nymag, fabsugar or style.com will post the pics.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, JSR! I've been anticipating this show for a while now; am curious to see what they'll turn out.
DeleteI really wanted to buy and love the Slim Trench but after reading a few reviews/comments and talking with my online VPS, it's clear that the belt will have to loop through the buckle and can't be tied because it's too short. According to my VPS, even if you can get the short length tied it will look funny with the stubby ends, especially with the buckle on one end. My belted coats must have a belt that can be tied or at least a buckle with notches so it stays nicely cinched. Too bad, it looks lovely otherwise.
ReplyDeleteOT-Check out Marissa Webb Spring 2013 collection. http://www.fabsugar.com/Marissa-Webb-Spring-2013-Pictures-24826653 IMHO -
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
Another snake print skirt, woot! :P I'll be looking for it in the sale section, lol.
ReplyDeleteElaine, I love it that you rock the snake!
DeleteThanks ruffles! :) I'm waiting with bated breath for it to be cool enough for me to wear the skirt and the snake-print Tippi! (although not together, of course). I feel most fierce in them.
DeleteFall! Where are you? I want to get my snake on! :)

ReplyDeleteI just came back from the Copley Place store in Boston. I had heard that the new arrivals would be out. Indeed, they were there (and I confirmed with an SA that all new arrivals were on display).
I was surprised at how few items they were featuring. I saw the hen blouse, a Collection leather-tipped pea coat, a jewelled sweater (not shown above) and a very attractive navy sleeveless blouse with sparkly detail on the front. I guess there were more colors of cafe capri's. It was super thin - almost everything in the front of the store was from previous roll-outs. I'm surprised and a little disappointed.
There were tons of ballet flats in the sale section ($69) if anyone is in need.
And Copley now has wedding dresses, though all there is to see is in the front window.
Thanks cousy and everyone else who chimed in on the new arrivals.
DeleteI guess I should have known the new arrivals would hit the website on Thursday, like usual, but was hoping maybe they would earlier than usual this time. I've been saving my cardholder discount until the last days....silly me.
I stopped this morning at my store and they had the new rollout on the floor. Really overpriced and weird-looking stuff that seems already old (how many foulard pants one can have) but they had the new paisley Jules (the one that is hidden under the yellow mod coat on the website) and the print is AMAZING. It is 100% silk twill lined in poly (the body only). It is definitively short but if you can do a Jules this one has a timeless/classic feeling to it. It is priced at $228. I have pics and I will try to put them up later.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I saw the python skirt and it is very plastic-y looking, would never have guessed it is real python.
DeleteThanks for your input. I've been excited about the paisley dress since I spotted it under the stadium mod coat. I'm bummed that it's the Jules dress though. It'll definitely be too short. I wonder if I can let out the hem....
DeleteIt looked VERY short on the manniquin. It hits me at mid-thighs and it looks proportioned on me but but I am only 5'2"...
DeleteI will let you know about the hem if I get it (I put it on hold but emailed my ps at anotber store to see if she is offering the VPS discount).
My VPS ordered the dress and it's waiting on me when I head back to the states in a week and a half! I'm hoping the length is doable because my mom said the print is GORGEOUS! Looking forward to your pictures Ema!
DeleteI'm curious about the tweed outfit -- is it a dress? Or a top and skirt? But that's the only thing that looks good to me ;-P
ReplyDeleteIt is a dress based on the copy. $248. It's the only thing I'm interested in out of the pics above, but would have to see IRL. If the fabric is too synthetic or the weave too loose, it could be a snagging disaster. That seemed to be the case with the purple/pink tweed skirt and jacket out right now.
DeleteOver live chat, I asked when the new arrivals will be available online and was told this Thursday is when the next website update is scheduled.
ReplyDeleteI love location catalogs! This time it seems I will love the location but feel meh about most of the new arrivals.
ReplyDeleteMy store has a few new pieces today. Ema, I agree on the python skirt ... it looks halloween costume-y to me ... and the PRICETAG! The peacoat is cute tho.
It's all falling into two piles for me, 1)too close to what I already have ten of in my closet, or 2) too trendy/odd/expensive to justify adding to my wardrobe.
I'm patiently waiting for Tom Mora to get his bearings in the Women's line and move us forward!
Love the look of that tweed dress, the purple wool skirt, the polka dot top, the sweater dress! So I guess I like this collection. Since October is my birthday month, I'll have to treat myself to something. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd really appreciate it if anyone has an extra coupon lying about. I know the fall items haven't been that popular, but I have my eye on two of them! Send it to margaritamixer23@gmail.com!
ReplyDeleteLike Alexis, I am so ready for fall but I haven't seen anything that I MUST have from J. Crew. I cannot believe that I still have my rewards card. I'll go in-store tomorrow to use it though I'm really not that exited about it. Looks like I'll mostly be shopping my closet this fall. Yay for classic timeless pieces.
ReplyDeleteI have a code that I will not be using. The first to email me gets it.
ReplyDeletewendysharum@netscape.net
Dear J.Crew,
ReplyDeletePlease STOP bedazzling everything!
I love that jacket, but why does the collar have to be jeweled. Still holding out hope for some good stuff online Thursday.
The code has been claimed.
ReplyDeleteI'm a rare bird that LOVES that python skirt, but wow, so far beyond my budget! I will have to be content with my print snakeskin skirt, and let someone with a lot more spending money claim the real snakeskin. But it does make me want to buy a kelly green sweater . . .
ReplyDeleteI love this skirt too! $1800 according to my VPS. They made around 50 of them so I'm told...if they don't sell out it will be $499 with extra 30% off by January 1.
DeleteThe fanfare serge jacket on page 51 reminds of the Astrid blazers from a few years ago. It seems to me JC is recycling so many things: cafe Capri, fanfare, Jules (I'm SO tired of this dress, for Pete's sake if they're going to insist on reusing the pattern over and over again, lengthen the dress so it doesn't look like a toddler's dress on anyone remotely tall), etc. if the quality was that of 5 years ago, I wouldn't be so disappointed.
ReplyDeleteOff tangent, for those who have the original navy schoolboy, how does this year's version compare to the original release version? Also can anyone tell me if the Etta heel is the same or thicker than that of the Juliet?
Thank you.
cmg - I haven't tried on the Ettas, but the heels looks similar thickness to the Juliets. The Ettas are higher.
DeleteTotally hear you on the Jules. It must be cheap to produce because of the silhouette and the length. I'm 5'2" and feel it's short.
I like much of the fall collection, but it's probably because virtually identical items are already in my closet.
ReplyDeleteWhere are they going with this line? I don't get it..nor do I see anything I'm remotely interested in. Good for my wallet, but as someone who has shopped with J.Crew for 20+ years ( yikes!) I'm sad to see the decline in design and quality.
ReplyDeleteOh this is exciting - I wasn't expecting the new catalog to be out on a Tuesday. I'll swing by the B&Ms today to see if they have it and try to get it up on the Archives ASAP!
ReplyDeleteHi life as a cat - I e-mailed you some scans of September 2008 (Prague) catalog if you wanted to put them up in the archives.
DeleteAlways fun to look but I don't see anything I really like so far this fall...
ReplyDeleteFor those intetested I just posted IRL pics of the Jules in Italian paisley on my blog (sorry I cannot link from my phone)
ReplyDeleteOk, picked up the new catalog. Working on scanning it right now!
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated!! :)
DeleteOk! So I've finished uploading the first Women's section, the Tokyo photoshoot here. I'll update again when I have the entire Women's section done, which should be in a few hours. I'll get the Crewcuts and Men's sections up in a day or so.
DeleteFinished uploading the Women's section. Crewcuts and Men's to come soon!
