"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. How is it that on new sale pop ups this morning that the blouson dress in navy is Final Sale? Would CS make it un-final?

  2. To add to JenLynn's comment, there were some other items in Spring Sale all week that are marked final sale today (Amie maxidress in engineered stripe, Stripe dolman-sleeve tee & Back-zip long-sleeve pullover). The price of each item has been further reduced but I'm wondering if it's a glitch or on purpose.

  3. I spoke to cs and was told the final sale items are not final sale and that if you order they can mark them so. They are going to fix the site.

  4. My gripe is final sale in general. I'm sure this has been beaten to death. When ordering off the internet, I don't always know how its going to fit, at least offer me exchange if you still have it....or god forbid - store credit!

  5. I bought the Factory Pencil Skirt in Double Serge cotton a few weeks ago. Yesterday, while wearing it for just the second time, the seam split halfway up the back. Shoddy, shoddy construction. I know it's Factory, but J.Crew should take some pride in the products it attaches its name to.

    1. Hi Charlotte, you may have seen in last week's posts that several of us had the same problem (splitting at the back slit) with the non-factory double serge cotton skirts as well this year, so it's not just factory. At least with the retail versions, my B&M did the repair for my two skirts free of charge...

    2. Thanks, Audrey - that's really good news. I missed last week's posts, so I had no idea!

  6. Lena - I mentioned this in one of those surveys that pop up after you order, that especially as someone who occasionally orders Tall items it is rough to deal with Final Sale as I could never have tried the item on in store even if I wanted to. I got a "we are very sorry about this, we do post the measurements online for you though".

I laughed out loud when I read that, hoping that it was a man who wrote it. When have measurements ever been a 100% accurate way of knowing how something looks on you? Just so silly!

  7. Tried cutting the tab off my anchors aweigh print scarf and cut a hole in the fabric as a result. You should see how tightly sewn the green j.crew logo is to the scarf. For comparison I also just bought a scarf from the gap and snipped the two tiny threads removing the tag easily. I don't want tags on my scarves!

  8. OT, but does anyone know if stores are offering extra % off sale items? TIA!

Also, I'm peeved that the eyelet tank went on sale yesterday and is already sold out in most colors and sizes. GRRRRR. Now I have to play the dang waiting game.

    1. I was there today and they would not give me the secret 30% off (even though they did last time there was a secret sale... 2 weeks ago?). I'm fuming about it a little... it's amazing how much inconsistency there is within the same store (the only store in a 30 mi radius, might I add). I'm downright pissed to be honest with you. If a similar store existing in my area, I'd boycott J Crew in a heartbeat (maybe). Still pissed though.

  9. I have been waiting for weeks for the eyelet tank to go on sale and have been checking online daily. But...the dang website does not even indicate it is on sale unless you click on the item!! Booo!!!

  10. MAY 2012 style guide vent: Meh...

The May catalog has to be the worst ever. Mostly the same recycled pencil skirts, stripes, pants, Tee's and button down shirts just in different colors or fabrics. The exception are one or two items, like that ring-around eyelet top (like). But the pleated blouson frock on pg 26 is really sad.

The swim section is shot in a studio and not even poolside never mind the beach (WTF). Whatever happened to those beautiful location shoots of catalogs past???? Oh I know, the privately owned JC is 'cutting corners' again...well that's just dandy as my pocket book is safe this month! Just my 2รง

  11. Meg, be sure to use fray check on the hole. Depending on the size it might even be able to "glue" or hold the hole together so it won't even be seen or at least it won't increase in size. Available online and instore at Joann Fabrics

  12. Elaine,

Called two stores about the eyelet tank. Not on sale in store but new markdowns to happen tomorrow. One store was willing to honor the sale price for me. No extra 30% off, but I will take the initial markdown!

  13. Thank you SE Mom! And I agree, I can handle $29.99 for that top.

I was going to run out right now, but I may wait until tomorrow to see if it gets marked down. For some reason I thought it was an online/catalog-only item. Hope my store has it. Orrrrrrrrrrrrr....I could go put it on hold and pick it up tomorrow. Hmmmmmm.

  14. I posted about this in an earlier thread, but I'm still angry that the ship date for my Altuzarra Patricia Dress was bumped back by over a month! I ordered it the very first day it appeared on the site and now it won't ship until June 4. J Crew really needs to get their inventory issues worked out.

  15. a lot of classic oldies are coming back which is a sign not j crew is not doing so well..the maintenee trench coat is from last year? and the bubble neck is from how many years ago? not too much change but the quality is slipping

  16. So I went to my B&M to try on the eyelet tank and they didn't have the color I wanted in my size, so I tried on 2 sizes. FYI, to me it fits TTS.

But I ended up not liking the colors as much as I thought I would. The red seemed to skew orange to me, and the purple was, like, GrapeApe purple. Like purple-durple.

I also wasn't 100% crazy about how the back of the armhole laid, sort of like it gapped because it was the eyelet portion of the shirt and not the plain knit portion.

But if I can get my size in the red for around $19 online, I would consider buying it. HTHs someone.

    1. I thought this tank fit funny too, although I do like both the red and the purple colors.

    2. I found that sizing up a size helped with fit a little bit. It may vary from shirt to shirt too. I agree that the eyelet part not being as as stretchy as the rest of the shirt causes the awkward fit issues.

    3. Elaine, I just have to say, your posts always make me smile! Even when venting you're hilarious. :)

    4. You saved me from vacation disaster! I ordered the yellow online in size small, fit great. I had the red and white sent from my local store over a month ago and never bothered to try them on. The red is great, the white is HUGE! Not sure if I should try to wash and shrink it or just return, it is very sheer. And of course, now it is marked down. Typical.

  17. I bought one today on sale and figure that mostly I am going to wear it under a shirt so all I want is for it to show some lace underneath. I like that the scoop neck is very reasonable and not too low. The white seemed like the best for layering. Too sheer to wear alone.

  18. Not sure where to post a question so figured I'd try here...

Received a suit from my now ex-gf and want to return for store credit. Don't have a receipt nor am i going to ask for one. Tags are still attached but I did remove the sewn in security tag when I was about to take it to the tailor. That never happened so the suit is good as new with no security tag. Will J Crew let me exchange or return for store credit?

  19. I have to file a small vent for the inconsistencies between online and B&M pricing. The basket-weave skirt is $59 in stores but $99 online. Why, JCrew, why?

    ReplyDelete
  20. VC21, JC will require a receipt for a return/exchange. If you don't have one, they will ask you who bought it for you and try to look it up that way. You can see if that works without having to ask your ex for a receipt.

  21. Customer service inconsistencies drive me bananas! The answers for what they will & won't do vary so wildly depending on who you speak/online chat with, it's almost unreal :(

  22. We bought loads of gorgeous flip flops for the kids . However, they cannot withstand heat! They warped within day and one left in the car shrunk to half it's normal size within hours. Do not buy flip flops if your plans include very warm climes!
