"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who let us know about J.Crew's latest email.
J.Crew is letting us know about their various styles for sandals (click here). As mentioned in a previous post (refer to "Product Review: Capri Sandals"), I love the look & style of J.Crew's leather sandals. However, they are terribly uncomfortable (after being worn for several hours) and have no comfort/ support.
J.Crew is also reminding us to try their personal shopper, which has been discussed on this blog a few times (click here). I signed up for a personal shopper a few months ago, and unfortunately have not used the services that often. I found calling their regular customer service was just as useful as using the personal shopper.
What are your thoughts on J.Crew sandals? Do you like the style? Do you have a personal shopper? If so, do you use him/her frequently for purchases? :)
I don't really understand the "dress like an icon" bit... is it referring to the sandals or to using a personal shopper? Most likely it's referring to a PS, but the line paired with the images of sandals is odd. The popular jackie cardigan/twinset has been dubbed JC's "very own style icon," so in that sense I get how the product itself is marketed as iconic (the name itself is intended to invoke such connections). But, a) how are these sandals iconic and b) how is using a personal shopper going to make one look iconic? Isn't the point of looking iconic that it is individual, timeless, and original, and not concocted by a mall retailer working on commission?
ReplyDeleteI like a lot of the shoe/sandal styles J.Crew offers, but they run so narrow that I can't even fit my foot into some of them. It's a shame, because they are really cute!
ReplyDeleteThat said, I would only buy them on sale because the quality and price do not match up, IMO.
I love the look of the Jcrew sandals, but for the price, I just can't justify spending that much on sandals or flip flops (with the exception of my Rainbows, but that's like comparing apples and oranges). Gap actually has some flip flops very very similar to the capri flip flops and they have a much more cushiony sole for about half the price ($25). I love them, and they are super comfy to wear for hours on end.
ReplyDeleteI can't justify the price for the capris sandals since I found my Target knockoffs just as comfortable. I am with lilac cupcake, in that many of their shoes are too narrow for me - but I have found the sandals to be more likely to work for me. I love my Danielles - even though they don't have a lot of support, the leather is so soft and they stay on my foot really well (unlike flip flops), so I am extremely happy with them...and equally happy that I got them on sale.
ReplyDeleteThe starfish pair is my favorite!!
ReplyDeleteI like the leather capri sandals and the classic flip flops. As for other JC shoes, I find that I simply cannot wear their heels or flats as they are extremely uncomfortable. I don't have wide or narrow feet, so I'm not sure what the deal is. Lack of support, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteI like the look of a lot of J Crew sandals but not many of them are worth the price. However I did order the Aurora Patent sandals in sweet papaya during the 20% off sale and LOVE them- totally worth the $119 paid.
ReplyDeleteAny of the J.Crew sandals with the flat leather sole are horribly uncomfortable. They are stiff and hard, and the straps give me blisters. I've owned a couple pairs and suffered through the torture but have sworn off buying any again, no matter how cute!
ReplyDeleteI love the espadrilles I got on FS for $39.99, but don't think these new flat glads are worth $100+. You can get really similar (more comfy) styles elsewhere for about 1/10-1/2 the cost, so why shell out a Benjamin for them?
ReplyDelete@ tastymoog: agree, the "dress like an icon" tag line is a tad incongruous. Maybe they were out of email banners.
The capri sandals are more comfy this year than in years past. I had a couple of pairs from 2 summers ago and had to get rid of them -- the straps were so loose that I had to work really hard to keep them on my feet. They kept sliding around. The newer ones are much more wearable IMHO. I bought the Target knockoffs too and found them to be more comfortable, but after several wears the glue on the back of the straps let go and I had to use scotch tape to hold them together! Not a good look. I agree they are expensive - only buy them on sale. And they always go on sale.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any JC sandals - just ballet flats. I do love their flip flops, though. As for the PS, I LOVE mine! If you're ever in the Charleston, SC, store, ask for Billy. He's great! And, honest, which is important to me. :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are subtly referring to MO when they say "Dress like an icon?"
ReplyDeleteI agree that they should have sent two separate emails though, it's a little bit confusing...
Just got the new cord pencil skirt in dark aubergine. Love the fit..it is a little fitted, but not too bad. The color is a rich dark purple. Looks better in person than on the internet. In the light, the skirt looks like a purplish burgundy. I can't wait to wear it in the fall. Perfect go to piece.
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is a random question but I'm not sure where else to post it. I've had my eye on the tissue ruffle v-neck tee (14971) but since it's not shipping yet, I've held off on buying it. I'm assuming they're taking pre-orders on that item though, and I'm just wondering if it's likely that the item will sell out as soon as it starts shipping. Has anyone experienced anything like that with other J.Crew items? Should I place a pre-order, or do you think it will be fine?
ReplyDeletei bought a pair of jcrew metallic leather twisted sandals, dark gold. after wearing them for a period of one week, i noticed that the metallic gold on the footbed is starting to already wearing off. i dont find their flat sandals uncomfortable. i think that jcrew should make the footbed non-metallic leaving it the natural leather color.
ReplyDeleteWhat is up with no free shipping codes??? How strange! I guess they just gave up trying to compete with Nordies sale?
ReplyDeleteFunny, I just a crewcuts e-mail that says that shipping is now free on crewcuts, all the time. Hmmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteMaybe JC should take a hint from Nordstrom, or Victoria's Secret and have a HUGE sale every once in a while, instead of letting things just kind of trickle. Funny, in the days of free ship/no min it seemed like the sale prices were better. Anyway, there are sales elsewhere definitely worth checking out!
Wendy, thanks for the info on the cord skirt. The color sounds lovely and a perfect addition to my fall wardrobe. I have it in my cart in the usual size and will likely order it soon. Waiting a couple days for a free shipping code but will probably relent soon enough and then the next day a code will likely appear.
ReplyDeleteI have bought many pairs of flat J.Crew sandals over the years and they are comfortable on my feet. ;) I think it just depends on the person. Of course you're right- shoes of this style never have any kind of support but it's that thin leather sole that makes the particular style chic.
ReplyDeleteI like my J. Crew sandals. I've got several pairs, including the metallic blush rosette capris, a Collection silver Swarovski crystal pair and an emerald green patent pair.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do make sure that I'm going to be seated if I'll wear them a while.
Sandals are cute, but not extremely comfortable. For the price, full price, they should consider adding a cushioned foot bed;)
ReplyDeleteI ended up snagging my first pair of sandals 2 weeks ago at the outlets in Vegas for a super good deal-like $7.99! They were the metallic leather braided capri sandals from the main site, so it must have been overstock that was at the outlets.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'm glad I only paid like $8 for them, because the do hurt my feet, and I probably won't wear them much. The leather straps are so narrow and stiff, it seems to almost bruise the tops of my feet as I walk.
On the other hand I just recently recieved the Palma vachetta ankle wrap flat sandals in Nutmeg, and I love, love love them! They look just as good with a dress, as with casual shorts. At 50$, they were more than I'd usually pay for sandals, but I like them so much I think I need them in another color. Does anybody have and like them in the silver?
