  1. Thanks for posting this Alexis!

I went by the factory store the other day and didn't see anything I had to have but I did notice they had the cha cha dot pencil skirt and a ton of Jackie's in several different colors. Oh and shorts if anyone is looking for those items.

  2. Yay! I was planning on taking a trip down to the outlet mall next week. I haven't received any coupons from them since I first signed up two years ago for notifications. THANK YOU!

  3. Going on Friday to the outlet in Waterloo, NY... however, I get a student discount of 15% no matter how much/little I spend so I'm not sure I will bother printing out this e-mail. Maybe as backup in case they deny my discount. You never can tell since they are so inconsistent!

  7. Hi all,

    Thanks for the head's up Alexis. Unfortunately, I haven't been impressed by the local outlet. Most of the items are nice enough & appropriately priced... However, for the quality on offer - they don't strike me as good value. Add in a 45 min detour & I'd rather go to my B&M & see what's on the sale rack. Better yet, I'll wait to hear about a discount or free ship on this blog & go buy it online :}

Hope my fellow JCAs score some lucky finds!

  8. I would love to check out the outlets with the kiddies over spring break, but don't think I can leave the puppy that long yet since it is a bit of a drive. Oh well, I'll get there next time... Thanks for sharing!!

  9. Emily, Anon at 6:05PM, Ginger Snap (great screenname btw!), Heather:D. HeidiG: "Thanks!" for the thanks! But the thanks really goes to JTS who was kind to post the email. :)

I don't know how some Aficionadas get the Factory emails. I have signed up to receive all emails, but its clear I will never receive those. Maybe one has to sign up at an actual Factory store?

Em: LOL! Bringing this coupon as a backup is a smart move. :)

  10. sorry to be OT, but can anyone tell me about the fit of the jackie cardigan? i usually wear a small but was thinking about sizing up to a medium. thoughts? thanks!!

  11. laura, I don't think you need to SU in the Jackie cardis. I wear a 10 in J.Crew shirts and a M in sweaters and the M Jackies fit fine, I have 9 of them and 6 of the shells. All are size M except one size L cardi that I got on FS.

I would only SU if you have quite a large bust or very broad shoulders. The one L I have isn't too large to wear, but not as fitted as the M. If you are usually a M in J.Crew sweaters then that should be fine.

  12. sorry laura, I should have said that if you are usually a S in J.Crew sweaters then a Jackie in size S should be fine.

  14. You're welcome laura. I'm a big fan of the Jackies. I used to just buy the cardis but now I buy the set. I like to wear the shell alone or under a jacket in summer and I also wear it as a vest over a shirt in cooler weather. Of course I wear them together as a twinset and the cardi with other items or on its own as well.

What color(s) are you getting? I bought the endive and misty lavender sets this spring. Nice, soft neutrals.

  15. What do they sell at the outlets - is surplus merchandise from previous seasons?

Or is the merchandise different, and if so, is it the same quality?

I never get out to the outlets often as the closest one is about 3 hours drive.

If anyone can let me know, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

  16. OT- For someone who looks for cashmere heirloom henley in Putty.

I found that heirloom henley in Putty (L size) is available on line sales section. There is only one available now.

  17. The factory stores are jokes...at least they are where I live. It's stuff that kind of looks like last years items, except cheaper and off in color or pattern. It's just weird.

  18. I am usually an outlet guru, but I haven't found anything at the j.crew outlet in quite some time. I'd love to hear from other JCAs and JCOs if they find something there. Unless I hear good reviews, I probably won't drive down. The extra percent off makes it tempting though :)

  19. Can I use my student discount with this?

  20. Em, the Waterloo outlet is close to me as well . . . do you shop at the Carousel Center JC? If so, we should connect and try to get a JCA event like the ladies in DC!

  21. Hi anon,

In my (limited) exp. the JCrew outlets aren't worth the extra drive time - which is about 45 min 'round here. I much prefer my usual B&M for 3 reasons.

1)the clothes - Most of the stock is made for the outlet & it shows. The giveaway is the noticeable diff in quality. For example, the Jackies come in slightly different colours & look like they would fade after the 1st or 2nd wash. If you're not certain about an item, look for the diamonds embroidered on the label.

    2) the selection- Usually, there are plenty of the made-for-outlet items in several colours, but not a lot of variety in the items. You may find 1 or 2 unusual things from last season wedged in here or there. However, there's usually a reason; they may be all XS, have a weird fit, or are made of a sheer fabric. Basically, they didn't measure up to a regular B&M customers' expectations & were shuffled off to the outlet.

    3) the store floor - The store itself is rather barebones. There are fewer mirrors, unflattering lighting in the change rooms & no- frills design choices (carpet is nicer on your feet & ankles than concrete).

That said, the staff was just as friendly & helpful as any SA I've met. Always willing to offer help.

So, you may find 1 or 2 treasures. I fact, I did find a great suiting skirt there once for about 1/3 of regular cost. Please note that I had to dig quite a bit & probably paid some of the savings in gas :} As a result, I think you'll have a better exp following the tips on this blog & ordering from the sale site or using B&M specials.

    HTH,

    Heather:D

  22. Hi Heather D.

Thanks for the low down on the outlets. It's a huge help.

    Cheers!

  23. I asked a SA if I could use my student discount with the coupon and was told they can't be used together. They didn't have much here in Sunrise, FL so I ended up just going to a regular J Crew.
