"Thanks!" to many of you, including GingerSnap & Lynzeeroo (in this post), Crewbie (in this post), as well as Anon at 12:14AM & Julia (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew updated its website (click here). There are new arrivals for men (click here), women (click here), & the J.Crew Collection (click here).
In addition to having new arrivals for men and women, J.Crew also provided the latest catalog, exclusively featuring Liya Kebede (refer to this post), online (click here to view). I am all for new arrivals and I can't wait to look through the new catalog!!!
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised to see? Which items did you hope would be included?
I wanted to be excited about the Milla tank but to me it looks horrible on the model in the picture online.
ReplyDeleteI also would love to have the dress but cap sleeves do not look good on me even when my arms are toned.
I bought the Ripstop cargo pants in the army green color. I love J Crews Ripstop material, did not see anything else that made me want to buy right away.
ReplyDeleteAs seems to be the case too often lately, I am rather disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI like the Golden Foil Agnes Jacket--it looks better than I thought it would. And I like the Coastal Tunic. But the rest just seems to be more of the same shapes in slightly different fabrics and variations. I wish J Crew would have more structural variations in their items--they seem to have the same pencil skirts and hip-slung pants and cardigans over and over.
I guess they're picking what they think is the best strategy for the economy, but I used to buy so much from them and now I hardly buy anything (which suits my bank account just fine).
Still, this rollout is better than the last--a little more fun and sassy.
I like the Milla Gown, the top shown in the pic UNDER the Cashmere 3/4 sleeve cardigan, item # 18886 (I don't think links are working), and the Pansy Jaquard pencil skirt. I would really like to see the Golden Foil Agnes Jacket IRL...I think it's cute, but wonder how bright the *gold* really is. I wish there were better casual-wear options...the pieces I really like that I listed above don't work for my everyday life, except perhaps for the top under the Cashmere cardi.
ReplyDeleteI agree with FFM, there is a lack of casual options this Spring, J Crew used to do this so well.
ReplyDeleteI just received an email Martin & Osa 30% off when you spend $75.00, the code is on their homepage.
Can't wait to really browse through the website later this morning! Love the "Bauble Bath".
ReplyDeleteCool stuff for guys including the White chambray shirt, slub fleece hoodie and track jacket, and hammock camp short.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness they finally updated! I was freaking out last night because they haven't. I even started crying. I really wish they would update when they say they will!!!
ReplyDeleteToo many dressy jackets, not really relevant for my wardrobe. Loved the "Bauble Bath," got the new Pearl Bead Ribbon necklace. More versatile than some of the Titanic-sized statement pieces.
ReplyDeleteI continue to swoon over some of the shoes, but the price points are plain ridiculous. $250-350 when my neighbor is walking around in 19.99 Juliets? The TJMaxx situation has changed everything re:shoes. Buzzkill. No way.
Anon @ 7:44--did you really start crying about the update? I can think of many things to cry about, but a J Crew update isn't one of them.
ReplyDeleteWow, I am completely underwhelmed. How disappointing! There aren't even that many new items. :(
ReplyDeleteThere is a signet ring (16349) for $300 but the fine print is that J. Crew does not engrave. I'm reminded of that scene at Tiffany's in Breakfast at Tiffany's where Paul asks the clerk what he can get for $10, is offered a sterling telephone dialer, and opts to get a crackerjack ring engraved-- but I'm also certain that the market out there who buys/wears signet rings would not need to look to a blank one from J. Crew. (Grandfather's closet, maybe?) :)
ReplyDeleteAnyone else think the new arrivals blow monkey balls?
ReplyDeleteWhoever is the stylist for Jcrew needs to be fired ASAP
Meredith- So what if I cried?! I am very emotional when it comes to Jcrew.
ReplyDeleteWhen will Summer items be on the site? I'm dying to see them.
Audrey, I'm watching Breakfast at Tiffany's on HBO right now! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm underwhelmed by the offerings, but that's fine for my wallet. Already have similar pieces from past season. Love the linen Holly jacket though, and may spring for it.
Anon 7:53, I'm in total agreement with you about the shoes. The dusty rose Juliets are on sale for $139, but my driftwood ones were $19.99 - I can't bring myself to pay $120 more for the same pair of shoes.
I for one like the dressier new arrivals. It seems like the past couple roll outs had way too many tees. I work in an office where the dress code is business attire and tees aren't acceptable except on casual Fridays. It's nice having dressier options so I can wear J. Crew to work.
ReplyDeleteI made my first purche this morning. Two of the jackets (I will only keep one.) The printed coastal tunic, and the cotton cadeau cardi. I, for one, was more excited than I expected to be about the new arrivals. The jackets in this rollout are all completely versatile to dress up or down. There are tons of new casual options. Knits, shirts, skirts, dresses and sweaters. Those little short sleeve button downs are darling. However, I think my expectations are slightly lower than most peoples. I think it is a successful rollut if there are a handful of things I want. I do not expect to like everything, just want a few things I love!
ReplyDeleteMeh-
ReplyDeleteNo must haves for me. Like FFM, I am loving the top under the cashmere cardi, but don't see it offered anywhere. I'm saving my B&M purchases for Sunday!
I think someone had mentioned this last roll-our; and I think it is even truer now, all the models in the april catalogue look so washed out.
ReplyDeleteI know they are emphasizing neutrals this season, but I really don't want to buy any of the clothes when the models themselves look that bad.
The Gorgeous pants look nice, I might get those in white.
ReplyDeleteI want the Super 150s pants but.. they are $300. So I guess that's not happening. A little disappointed! Some of the stuff looks cute though I suppose. I want the satin gala tote! It's so different!
ReplyDeleteI don't see much to get excited about; maybe it will be more compelling IRL. Can't wait for the JCA event this Sunday! :)
ReplyDeleteNo needful things this go-round. I was disappointed that there weren't any new knit dresses, since the pique IRL aren't all that, and the plisse strap was a no-go for my shape. I go for casual comfort and the relatively pretty, fancy jackets and pants in no way fit my life.
ReplyDeleteI like the Printed coastal tunic, item 14137, if it fits properly. I could see wearing this once a week in a casual environment.
ReplyDeleteffm-thanks for pointing out that tee under the cardi-LOVE it!
ReplyDeletefor anyone who's interested, I completely and crazily splurged on the Collection beaded chiffon glisse cami. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. When it arrived-in a plain brown envelope BTW-one of the stones was laying in the bottom of the bag! I was VERY disappointed for $175. I am glad it went back b/c after I reconsidered the price, I was definitely crazy when I ordered it. The fabric is pretty, but for that price, shouldnt it have come packaged much more nicely, and in a box, and on a hanger? It IS a collection piece. VERY disappointed.
Additionally, whoever mentioned the tee with the little fireworks on it-It's called the "Gondry tee" and item # 14553. it comes in pink, white and light grey with fireworks on the upper left and a little printed design on the lower right hip. TOO CUTE!!I got it in grey-wearing it today with a hot pink cashmere cardi, which brings out the embroidered stitching on the top left. retails for $45-must be retail only, b/c I dont see it on the website.
Hope this helps someone! Have a Super weekend everyone!
very, very underwhelming update... there are only two new things i *like* and nothing i *love*.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jcredude, the shorts look good, I am still waiting for my Sperry boots to show up. They should ship tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWow, definitely a disappointment. I don't see a thing I *need* to have.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a scene from the movie 10 Things I Hate About You..."so you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever be just whelmed?"
I'm whelmed over this roll-out :)
Very underwhelming update indeed! The only thing that really caught my eye was that shirt others are talking about under the cashmere crew.
ReplyDeleteI am completely underwhelmed. Yay for my wallet!
ReplyDeleteI was interested in the pleated lawn skirt but it looked so slouchy on the model. I mean, she did not even look enthused. It made the whole skirt a turn-off for me.
Only a few things I'm considering - the classic seersucker jacket, intrigued with the pleated lawn skirt - just looks cute and casual with a tee (but not sure I can pull off the pleats at the tummy!), and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the top under the 3/4 sleeve cashmere cardi - I want that look (top & cardi)! I like the ripstop cargos, too, but have several from seasons past, so don't need any more.
ReplyDeleteI really hope they offer som brighter colors for Summer. I'm already really bored with ivories, grays and pale pinks.
ReplyDeleteanon@9:17--I too was disappointed that there weren't any new knit dresses. I was counting on j.crew to come out with something comfy and cute for summer. Oh well...maybe with the next roll-out...
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that the French terry cardigan is listed as a new arrival...I bought one last week that was in the sale section already! It is very comfy though!
ReplyDeleteI don’t understand the collection pieces…why are they so much more? I have ordered collection pieces and the only difference I see is the label and the price tag!
ReplyDeletej. pearl-
ReplyDeletedo you remember how much you paid for the french terry cardigan?
i am placing an order online and wonder if i should just pick that up from my B&M.
I like the Birch-cloth cotton belted jacket and the Liza satin peep-toe flats. There wasn't much else that caught my eye.
ReplyDeleteAppgal - This is the last spring rollout. I am sure there will be new knit dresses for the summer. What is out now was left from resort and the idea of spring break travel.
ReplyDeleteOT, but a question about exchanging an item: I bought the Samantha suede flats the other week with EXTRA20, making them about $78. They're lovely but they seem to run a bit large (get it together on the sizing, J. Crew!). I'd like to exchange them for another pair in a smaller size. Would J. Crew honor the lower price that I paid? Would I need to pay shipping again? Am I likely screwed since I used EXTRA20, which is theoretically final sale? (There were no Final Sale markings on any of the items I purchased or on the receipt.) Thanks!
ReplyDeletebigfoot, I'd just call CS and explain your situation - they may be willing to just send you out a new pair at the price you paid for the old pair. Can't hurt to ask!
ReplyDeleteUm, I think 7:44 is being facetious.
ReplyDeleteDon't feed the trolls.
Yeah, about that cotton lawn skirt. I think it looks killer from the back. With the seam placed just so it almost gives a bustle effect, which I think is so nice! However, it looks like even the model can't pull off a "front bustle" so what would it be like on us mortals?
ReplyDeleteAppgal- and what about the difference between like and love "I like my Sketchers, but I LOVE my Prada backpack" Hilarious movie! The big scene when Heath and the marching band serenade Julia Stiles is one of my top five favorite film moments of all time!
ReplyDeleteOh, snap, big time sale section update.
ReplyDeleteThere's a black velvet Bella jacket in the sale section--someone hurry and snag it! :)
ReplyDeleteanon@10:27--HA! I had forgotten about that part...what a great movie!
ReplyDeleteI ordered the Milla tank and dress, as well as the ripstop cargos and vintage slim jeans. Love J.Crew's ripstop and although I have two from past seasons they are starting to look a little ratty as I wear them gardening a lot. I really wish the jeans were available without the rips and distressing. I'd like to have them just looking like real worn in jeans, which for me are not ripped. The fit looks good though, so I may have to keep them anyway.
ReplyDeleteI thought the terry cardigan looked nice and I'm loving the library cotton-cashmere cardi I have on today so maybe will spring for one more long cardi.
The birch cloth suit looks good too but I have the textured hemp in navy already. The jacket on the birch cloth is much cuter though. I love the super 150's pants and will be stalking those, waiting for the next promo. I want them all. *Want* being the operative word here.
The rivulet cardigan is also nice but I really don't need anything added to my bustline and it's bamboo/rayon, not cotton. IME rayon doesn't hold up well.
I also was hoping for at least one new bag to covet, but perhaps that will happen in summer. I have an addiction to bags and shoes so maybe should just rehab for a while anyway. ;-)
Well, nothing really jumps out at me, except for the Pansy Jaquard pencil skirt and the Ripstop cargo pants in the army green and/or white. Heading over to the b&m during lunch to check things out in person. Still looking for the floral pencil skirt, I wonder when that is being rolled out!
ReplyDeleteCan anyone comment on the fit of the surplus wide-leg trouser jean in clean fade wash? I've been considering these for a while and now they are on FS for less than 1/2 price.
ReplyDeleteTIA
Dear J. Crew,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for pointing out, in justification of the $175 price tag for your Milla tank, that the fabric comes from the "highly prestigious" Lake Como province of Italy. This really makes me want to buy two small pieces of fabric sewn together with minimal styling. I appreciate very much the education your marketing department is constantly striving to give me, the consumer, about all things European. Oh, by the way, you might want to put an accent grave on the "a" in pret-a-porter (with accent circonflexe on the first "e"--bon travail!) in the same description, and give a course to your CS reps who continually butcher "ecole" and other French terms you are so fond of.
Does JCrew really think we are such naive consumers to be spoon-fed such cr**?
That golden foil jacket (12180)..... Isn't that the same one that was discussed on this board a week (?) ago and was priced around $500?
ReplyDeleteIt's $375 on the website....
That Milla tank that was on eBay the other day sold for like, $33 (I was watching it because I was SO curious!). It didn't look that great in the real life pics, but I like the way it was styled in the spring lookbook.
ReplyDeleteNice letter anon 10:53. I can appreciate sarcasm and enjoyed reading your post. Had a couple chuckles and even an eye-roll. J.Crew does seem full of themselves sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThe fine silk twill is expensive and is worth the money IMO. It is used to make the finest scarves and we all know they aren't cheap, especially considering they are a single piece of cloth with a hand-rolled and stitched hem. But they last, hold their vibrant colors and look fabulous forever. Same for the Milla tank. You could wear this item anytime, anywhere and it will always look great. I can't wait to get mine. More than happy to give up 4-5 disposable, trendy tees for one Milla.
xoxo - I like the textured hemp jacket much better than the birch cloth. Do you have the skirt as well? What sizes and do you want to sell them? I'd be happy to buy them if you wanted to get the birch cloth instead.
ReplyDeleteI am crushing on the Holly Linen jacket, but I am a bit worried it's going to be the boxy Atelier part deux. Is it just me or does it perhaps look a wee bit more fitted?
ReplyDeleteIs the french terry cardigan kind of like a sweatshirt material? It's really pretty but if it were I'm not sure I could wear it to work...
how do they pronounce 'ecole?'
ReplyDeleteee-col-ee?
Hi Georgia Girl, anon @10:53 here. To each his own. I like the Milla tank, too, but don't think the price tag is justified. You'd get more wear out of two Hermes (accent grave on the second "e") scarves tied together, and more bang for your buck. I'm waiting for the person to point out that I left the accent aigu off of the "e" in ecole--my computer won't do accents in these posts, for some reason. Enough French lessons for one day. Something about that "highly prestigious" really got me going!
ReplyDeleteThey pronounce "ecole" a bit too similarly to "ecoli"!
ReplyDelete@bigfoot - Just call JCrew and tell them you want to do an exchange - they should honor the price you paid, and they ship exchanges for free (and if you can return to your local store, you don't have to pay to return). I bought a skirt with a percentage off, and exchanged it later - they honored my original price and shipped it to me for free. Not entirely sure if this would work for you since it was supposed to be FS, but worth a shot.
ReplyDeleteThe french terry cardigan is a thick sweatshirt material- it's part of my go to writing outfit, but I wouldn't wear it to work. It is also quite long like the library shawl cardi. I bought both at full price and love them, the french terry in pewter and library in putty.
ReplyDeleteSomeone was asking how the lawn skirt looks IRL - JTS did a review of this skirt on her blog.
ReplyDeleteOT: Can anyone comment on the fit of the metallic trim perfect shirts? TTS or size down/up? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDarn. The new 98$ Vintage Slims have a slice at the knee. Why? I could have sliced it like that myself easily. Hmm.. I wonder how hard it would be to repair that? I like the some distressing, but that slice isn't even distressed. It just looks like someone cut a nice clean slice.
ReplyDeleteHelp!
ReplyDeleteI love the ripstop pants. But I am worried that the pocket are going to pad the hips. I am a petite with short legs so the last thing I need is anything that makes my hips look wider (makes the legs look even shorter). What do you all think? I am a terrible judge of pocket placement.
I don't want to pay the crazy shipping charge for a pair of pants that will make me look hippy. I don't like enough items to get up to the free shipping price. Thanks!
ha
ReplyDeleteVelvet Ecoli..
Zoot Allures! = )
in the april one, pages 22, 38,and 75 make me happy. the whole catalog is playful and happy -- i like it! and talk about some cute crewcuts stuff.
ReplyDeletewhat i think are strange are certain model selections (especially in the first few pages). and the highlighting of basic cashmere and yet another cardigan make me yawn.
I've heard CS pronounc it eckle.
ReplyDeleteThanks Soon-to-be-PhD. Sounds like the perfect weekend (or in your case, writing your dis!) sweater.
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:53 I would love to buy two Hermes scarves and make them into a tank but it would cost a lot more than the Milla, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteI know I will get my money's worth out of Milla. It will work nicely under a suit and I have to dress up often outside of work too so it is a piece that will be a workhorse for me over the years. And the longevity is worth $175 for me.
You are right though, to each their own. I don't buy any of the cute J.Crew tees. Although they are adorable, I have few opportunities to wear them and if they don't last several seasons I can't justify the expense at any price.
Have a wonderful day. :)
Textured Hemp - thank you for your generous offer to buy my hemp suiting but I will be keeping it. I really like the pieces and have worn them twice already. The birch cloth short sleeves are tricky for me because my office is quite formal and sometimes the short sleeve jackets just don't look as professional. I also shy away from belted suit jackets because sometimes I like to leave my jacket open and the belted ones don't look as good with the belt hanging down, undone. It is definitely cuter, but not for me.
ReplyDeleteI got my hemp suiting pieces on FS after I thought they were long gone. Keep checking and they may come back in your size. I think quite a few people liked the papaya version as well. Either color, they are very well-made, quality pieces.
I can second Georgia Girl and Anony @10:53 on the Milla cami. It is an item with staying power, but not for everyone. But 10:53 can you even buy ONE Hermes scarf for under $200??
The Milla is beautiful and worth it, but the sleeves are for delicate shouldered ladies. As a broad shouldered woman, it wouldn't work on me. Enjoy it! I'm jealous.
ReplyDeleteI know that the comments about the Juliet patent pumps were mentioning how they wouldn't be buying them at even the sale price, but I have to say thank you for mentioning that the dusty rose are on sale for 139. Considering how much use I get out of my Juliets in peacock (which I got for 99 dollars), I know I will get even more use out of these Juliets because the color is a nice neutral for my closet! I know it isn't a true neutral but I plan on using it that way!
ReplyDeleteSo thank you all. I know TJ Maxx sells them for really cheap, but because my TJ Maxx never carries J. Crew stuff and because of my limited time (Full-time teaching and two young children), this price I will happily pay!
BTW, I love the chain-looking necklace with the ribbon tie. Something about this new arrival is appealing to me. :)
I saw a few new colors in the Jackie shells and cardigans at a B&M so I was disappointed to not see them on the website. One was a dark charcoal and the other a pale orange. The pale orange in particular was very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI'm also disappointed that the roll out wasn't larger. Not many items and not many that I have to have. I would also love to see the ruffle tank that is under the cashmere 3/4 sleeve sweater. Must be an item for summer.
Linen holly jacket has been calling my name for a little while now and seeing it on the website didn't disappoint! Off to purchase after work (assuming it fits!). Really liked the birch suiting too, but I can wait for those to go on sale.
ReplyDeleteAnyone have the cashmere bauble henley? I'd never noticed it before, but caught my eye and wondering if it's cute and fitted.
Can anyone who has purchased the ripstop pants offer sizing advice please? Run big? Small? Gracias.
ReplyDeleteI made the following post the other day but I only heard back from one person. So I’m reposting in case others did not see it:
ReplyDeleteIs anybody interested in having an event at the Towson Town Center (MD)? I spoke with Tonya (my favorite personal shopper) and she said she'd be willing to host it for us! How about Sunday April 5th? If we can get this organized before March 31st we’ll still get 20% off of everything we purchase. If you are interested in coming please email me at khatt13@hotmail.com. Thanks :)
FYI, Tonya is incredibly helpful and can help us come up with really great outfits that fit each of our particular styles. I think it would be really fun!
Hi everyone, no, you probably can't buy a Hermes scarf for under $200, even on ebay, but I was just trying to suggest that putting two together (at maybe $300 each if you can get them at 20% off on bluefly) for a top gives you a bit more versatility/wear options. I admit to being an Hermes scarf freak (in the fall/winter I usually wear one two or three days a week), so my opinion is admittedly biased. To all you Milla lovers: wear it in good health! Or, in the delightedly bad French that has been popping up: in bwon san-tay!
ReplyDeleteAnonoy 10:45 I believe the trouser jeans were fitting at least 1 size larger, possibly even 2. Maybe CS can give you some advice?
ReplyDeleteRegarding the TJ Maxx shoes, can anyone tell me which store locations carry them? I haven't seen any at my store, unless I just missed the roll out. Thanks!
ReplyDelete^I think you've missed the roll out. It happened over a month ago and it's all gone now.
ReplyDeletedinagideon, you make a good point about the Juliets, though - I have the driftwood and the blanched almond and wear them both constantly! I wonder if that dusty rose matches the patent dusty rose belts from the fall/winter?
ReplyDeleteAlthough not a new item, I like the simple linen cotton long- sleeved tunic. It looks quite fitted on the model. Does anyone know if it is TTS or is it better to order a size up on this?
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by the super 150's pants. Too bad they're $250+, and only available on-line. I'll have to stalk them a while before considering to purchase.
Yes, Dina I like that necklace too. The one with the chain and ribbon tie. I want the new batch of jewelry to go on sale! I want.!!
ReplyDeleteThe Pearl Cluster made an appearance on CNN news this morning. Don't know the name of the news girl?? Looked great!
Stacy - The french terry cardigans were on sale for $39.99 in Weathered Stone. Some of the other colors were still full price but I know at least one other was on sale. Sorry I can't remember which one! I know it was not the shell, though.
ReplyDeleteOMG: The Milla dress is gorgeous. If it was no more than $250, I would buy it. I love it! Nothing else caught my interest.
ReplyDeleteThe LemLem items are expensive, but sweet. I would buy one piece if all the profits were to go to the women who make them by hand.
The medallion lattice top (#13309) looks really cute IRL. I am usually between a size 4 and 6 in tops, and I just purchased it in a 4 without trying on before buying. I just tried it now, and the 4 is a bit too snug. I think the 6 would be more comfortable. Plus, it is see through, so a size up may be better if you want to wear a tank underneath. However, if you don't want to, you can definitely just wear the shirt with a nude bra underneath. Also, the cut outs in the top are placed strategically, so normal bra straps will not peak through. Hope this helps if you were interested!
ReplyDeleteThough the super 150s look great, they sadly don't come in petite. Anyone think they might roll out petites and blazers in the 150s fabric?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what pants she is wearing on page 22? they are adorable! thanx
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if the 10% off coupons can be applied on top of the 20% off if you use the personal shopper? TIA
ReplyDeleteStacy - As stated, the weathered stone (taupe) was on sale. I saw it for $39.99 in stores. The putty (?), white and gray have been $49.50, down from $59.50.
ReplyDeletethanks everyone!
ReplyDeletei wanted to shell color so guess i'll have to wait.
Just came back from the Seaport b&m. I picked up two fabulous items that were not in the catalog, nor are they online.... The strapless eyelet dress in grey with white trim around the eyelets, $128 (also comes in ivory with cream trim around the eyelets), and the jeweled palm leaf earring (green, yellow and grey tones) for $55. I used my PS Kristy (she is awesome) and saved 20%. Hitting Madison tonight to look for the rose jacquared skirt.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know why JC does only gold-toned jewelry and no silver-toned jewelry? How about some variety?
ReplyDeleteAnony@2:48
ReplyDeleteJCrew did real sterling silver pieces in the past. I have charms, a bracelet and a necklace. Really nice stuff. I don't buy any of the costume stuff that JCrew sells. If they went back to real silver though I would....
I'm with those gals loving the Milla tank (and dress for that mattter). I am expecting the tank to fit like the top of the Jayne dress, which I found to be very feminine and flattering.
ReplyDeleteAlso loving the top that FFM pointed out. Can't wait for that to be released!
PaperBag Princess: The cut of the Holly jacket is NOT the same as the Atelier. The shape of the Atelier is a slight A-line, like the Andrea from last fall. It has the same vent detail in the back. I was able to size down 2 sizes from my normal size and got a fit that I thought was flattering. The Holly Jacket falls straight and stays close to the body. I don't think the fit is boxy or swinging at all. I think those words describe the Fiona jacket from last fall. I took my regular size in the Holly, but I think I will exchange it for a petite size to take some of the length off.
I will be interested to read others opinion on the vintage slim jeans. I tried them on at my B&M last weekend. They looked great from behind, but horrible straight on. They have a deceptively long rise. Even sizing down did not improve the rise fit. Big disappointment.
2:48--I think it's because silver is everywhere and everybody sells it. White metals have become so common that the fashionista set has focused more on gold in the last few years. J Crew sees itself now as fashionista-ish, so I think that's why.
ReplyDeleteWhat's with the two double pockets on the sweaters? They are on top of each other one one side, it looks unbalanced. Who needs pockets like that? I don't get it.
ReplyDeletehey anon 12:47, glad to run across another Hermes scarf devotee. They're just in a class of their own. My favorite is a blue one I bought in Paris. It always makes me happy to wear it :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry if this has been mentioned already, but there are additional pictures of the fall preview up on the JCrewaholics site (I'm a newbie, I know something happened with that site but I'm not sure what- sorry if I'm offending anyone by posting this, but some of the pics were gorgeous and I wanted to share). I really like the sequined shirts- okay, I'm five, I just love sparkly things!
ReplyDeleteRe: gold vs. silver, i think chunky gold-colored stuff is more mature looking and can be less stylish--i wish they would do more variety to appeal to all age groups.
ReplyDeleteAren't the "true" fashionistas wearing *white* gold and platinum, not yellow gold? Not-real yellow gold toned stuff can look super cheap. If they did some real silver it would be on the more affordable side without looking cheap.
I'm hoping for more vibrant colors than the muted pastels because they totally wash me out. I did purchase a few new items, and posted pics on my blog. Some items I bought are not yet on the website it seems. I'm putting myself on a ban now until they come out with brighter colors!
ReplyDeleteI'm not always crazy about the Hermes patterns. Some are nice, but they are usually to detailed for me and not the right colors. They seldom have the blue-toned shades of pink, turquoise and purple that flatter my coloring. I have two Pucci scarves that are totally me. Bright, lovely colors swirling about and much nicer with my complexion. I appreciate that they are beautiful scarves, but they aren't pretty on me.
ReplyDeleteUgh! Nothing that I have to have right now.....Jenna is kidding herself if she thinks I am going to fork over that much money for a tacky t-shirt with a shirred collar just because she belts it and pairs it with a foil-y skirt.
ReplyDeleteThe printed salmon colored silk dress reminds me of those tacky tacky Versace shirts circa 1994. It's heinous.
There are a couple of cardigans I like and I do love the belted jacket for work...but the rest of this stuff is AWFUL. And all these lame colors - I like pastels but goodness me! How many celery t-shirts should a girl have?
Jenna - you're a JOKE! You're ruining J Crew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have faithfully purchased from every collection since 1994. When I moved to Europe, I would still shop online and ship to my parents' house and have them bring me the pkgs when they visited. When I came back to Denver three years ago, I rushed to Cherry Creek to visit the B&M store. My daughter wears Crewcuts. My husband has become a J Crew consumer as well. I could pay more and wear other brands ( I love MaxMara) but have always stayed loyal to J Crew. I love the fact that I wore J Crew when I was a starving college student ( and still wear it! Some of the pieces are so well made and classic that I still can pull them off!), I wear J Crew to work, I wear J Crew to dinner, I wear J Crew when I take my daughter to the park. And if that isn't enough, I was a J Crew bride.
I want to spend my money on J Crew clothes. But this is the best you could come up with?
Are you not reading what people are posting here? Most of them are UNIMPRESSED.
The only way to wake them up is to call the Customer Service line and let them know we're unhappy. I'm going to call today.
Yellow gold is not a good look for everyone whether real or not. Silver, platinum or white gold can look much nicer, especially with a tan.
ReplyDeleteTiffany makes some wonderful, fun silver. David Yurman also has some beautiful silver with gold and gemstones.
The trendy J.Crew jewelry is OK looking, but not quality IRL. I prefer less quantity, more quality.
I see the atomic flower necklace is still in the new arrivals. Guess they want to be sure we haven't missed it.
4:02--Quite the opposite. Cheapo silver jewelry is everywhere, and is considered for 'the masses' by many fashion types. The same thing happened to yellow gold when platinum became popular. It goes in cycles. That's why everyone should wear what they like and not what's in fashion favor at the moment.
ReplyDelete4:16--Chill. Do you expect JC to cater every line to your exact taste? If you don't like this year's stuff, shop elsewhere. If enough people do that they will have to change the designs. But they seem to be doing generally well with Jenna's designs, taking the economy into account.
ReplyDelete@4:32 - WTH? Your post doesn't make sense. If you get that from the other comment then I say it is coming from within. Someone is not too happy with themselves.
ReplyDeleteBesides the "knockoff" print there are plenty of other typical J.Crew offerings. Rip-stop cargo, cardis galore, many styles of skirts. People on this blog obviously like J.Crew and continue to shop there. If you don't, then don't. 'nuff said.
I tried on and bought the printed coastal tunic last week. It is adorable and so flattering!
ReplyDeleteI still like me some J.Crew.
ReplyDeleteI have never been crazy about everything they offer, but I usually find a few good pieces each rollout and this is no exception. I placed an order on the last rollout and I placed an order on today's rollout.
I shop at other large retailers and some small boutiques as well. If I don't find anything I like one season I chalk it up to my individuality and wait for the next release. I've got a ton of clothes so it's never a need but I do enjoy buying new things. I like that Jenna takes risks. Even if it's something I don't like, I can appreciate the creativity behind the design, or have a laugh asking, "what were they thinking?" It happens to everyone in a creative field from time to time.
I always say,
Thankfully we don't all like the same thing or it would always be sold out in my size.
Sorry if this has already been posted, but here is the scoop on that adorable mystery top under the 3/4 sleeve cashmere cardigan that several have commented on. I called CS and this is what they said.

I hate it when they tease like this!!
--lucegirl
I know it's been out a little while, but has anyone tried the silk ripple top? How does it fit? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe Milla is not a Hermes knockoff, unless it is magnified 100X. Although created by artists, Hermes prints are usually quite engineered-looking and not as abstract like the Milla print. They are most often symmetrical and/or a print of a recognizable item, such as musical instruments, animals, landscape/greenery, clothing/accessories, royal/military, etc. They usually use at least 5 colors in the design.
ReplyDeleteThe Milla may be a knockoff, but not of Hermes. It is a beautiful print in its own right. It reminds me of a champagne glass. Cheers!

ReplyDeleteDuring lunch I went to the Nordstrom Rack on State Street they had they had a few pairs of the Fireball drop earrings.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the line was soooo long and I had to get back to work I didn't get a chance to buy them.
Just an FYI if anyone wants to stop by and pick up a pair.
Lynzeeroo: I don't think Target is copying J Crew, it is more like everybody including J Crew is copying the runway designers.
ReplyDeleteAnony 3:24 - would you say the vintage slim are high-waisted? They don't look it, which is why you said they are deceptive, I assume.
ReplyDeleteI'm really not into the return high-waisted jeans. I totally love the city fit for comfort and style. The knee rip isn't a selling feature either, but I thought the fit looked so cute. :(
lucegirl i appreciate the info on the top.
ReplyDeletei do not believe the cs rep when they say the warm shell is on the model. that does not look like what jcrew considers to be the color shell (a true pink) but more of the cantaloupe color
I'm in love with the City-fit Super 150s trouser and City-fit Super 150s glen plaid trouser. I would pay full price for these, except I wear a 31" inseam and 34" is just too high, even with high heels. Taking the length off won't work because the rise won't fall in the right place. UGH. Why are there so few/limited options for petites /inseams between 31'-32"???
ReplyDeleteTerrablanca
ReplyDeleteI think you mean the "break" not the "rise".
I know everyone has their own opinions but I can't believe everyone is saying nice things about the coastal tunic (printed or not).
ReplyDeleteTo me is is hid-e-ous.
What are those tassels at the sleeve and chest? and the cut adds 20 pounds. Talk about wide and unflattering.
Is no one else with me on this one? :)
The trellis jacket is intriguing. I need a jacket that says, 'lets party!' for several events this summer. The Holly could work as well, but I do like the silvery fabric and the collar of the trellis one better. It could work for winter holiday parties as well, where the linen Holly would not.
ReplyDeleteI am with you on the Coastal Tunic. This is awful IMO. But, to each their own. Maybe it looks much better on, or flatters a certain figure.
ReplyDeleteTenting for termites, anyone? Ick.
I cannot get on the website. Anyone else having this trouble?
ReplyDeleteSoon to be PhD: Do you mean the tank or the slub T? I haven't tried the tank, as tops like that rarely contain my girls. The T I do have, in the misty lavendar, and I'd say it fits much larger than the average T from JC. The body is looser and longer than I'm used to getting from them, but from the catalog pics I guess they're going for a bigger fit this time around. That said, the sleeves, while also longer than the cap- to short- short sleeve, don't seem any looser than average.
ReplyDeleteAnon@5:36:
ReplyDeleteI guess JCrew has expanded their "shell" spectrum to include peachy hues. Check out the slub cotton square neck tee
(13621) in "soft seashell." The color IRL is more peach than pink. Anyhow, the in-store color selection sounds especially promising.
LL
The silk ripple top that looks like a tank is what I'm interested in hearing about, thanks for the info on the tee!
ReplyDeletelynzeero-
ReplyDeleteI emailed CS about the water flower skirt too and didn't hear back from them. Oh well...
Anon @5:35: Yep, I would say they are high-waisted. Uncomfortably so ... and this is coming from someone who usually prefers favorite fit over city fit.
ReplyDeleteIf you can kind of pick up the problem if you look closely at the models. The crotch of the jeans sits a wee lower than you would expect. That's the only way the stylist can get those jeans to fall that far below Liya's navel. Its like JC took the boyfriend look too far, because, when on the body, the rise looks a pair men's jeans.
soft seashell in a very washed out pink, it is not peachy at all.
ReplyDeleteThe styling in the catalog is so ugly. Why are there so many baggy pants? And why are they all rolled up? And why is JC becoming soooo predictable in their clothes? There's nothing I want because everthing looks the same as last season. Soon enough they'll turn into boring old Gap.
ReplyDeleteanon 5:05 thanks for the info! I think I might need that top in light pewter:)
ReplyDeleteAnony 6:58 - thank you for the detail on the vintage slim. Looking at the photos I can see that they hang low and I was wondering about the copy reading "sits on the hips, slightly away from the body".
ReplyDeleteI prefer city fit over the favorite fit so these jeans are not for me. Thanks so much, you saved me $98, or at least the cost of shipping both ways.
Surprisingly enough, the coastal tunic is made to flatter. It does not hang straight down, but cut to show off the waist. When the sa suggested I try it on, I was surprised. It didn't look very appealing on the hanger. Then, I put it on and WOW! was I surprised. And, the tassles are really cute - not something I would normally go for. I also liked that it wasn't super long, which tunics usually are. Maybe because I'm larger chested (C) it worked for me - I haven't seen it on a smaller chested woman, so I can't comment on fit. However, on me, it was very nice - I don't usually pay full price, but it was flying out the door. I can't comment on the solid one, my b&m only had the printed one last weekend.
ReplyDeleteCoastal tunic...really... I think you should reserve judgement on this piece until seeing it in person. Tassles are quite small and just a cute detail. My local store only has two left. There were already out of my size, so I ordered this morning. Light, casual and comfortable, but with a lot of style and detail. Exactly what I look for at J Crew.
ReplyDeleteAnon at 5:41. I ordered the trellis jacket first thing this morning. Will report back after received.
ReplyDeleteWhat page in the catalog is the cotton ruffle swirl tank on? I can't find it! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI think it's funny that the one item that everybody seems to agree on and would want to purchase, the "mysterious" top under the 3/4 sleeves cashmere cardigan, is not yet available ...
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for more graphic Tees for the summer (I have had enough of "embellished" necklines and ruffles), I guess that I will have to wait for the next rollout. I personally don't like the Milla print, I wouldn't say that it's an Hermes knockoff but it's definitively deja-vu.
My favorive from this rollout are the ripstop pants, but I have many already so I would considering buying only on sale.
And I already own the French Terry Cardigan, which isn't a real new arrival as others have pointed out. For those who are interested, I have just posted a review and IRL pics of this cardi on my blog.
At the risk of being controversial, does anyone else think Milla dress= Mrs. Roper. Just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI think the Milla tank is lovely, albeit a bit pricey.
Just to put in my two cents' worth, there are some definite highs and lows to this season's collection.
ReplyDeleteI see too many capri pants, too many t-shirts, too many plain long sleeve button ups in solid colors. But then there are some really nice pieces that I have enjoyed, like the sleeveless top i with the scallop trim - love it.
But so many boring pieces this season. Not bad - just boring. I know the economy's suffering so shouldn't we be enticed into spending our hard earned money? Peach colored t shirts with a capri pant doesn't scream "Buy me!" right now. Now the cool printed top with the teardrop cutouts on the neckline - fabulous! :) And I got the shorts in the same print. Love the print. Will wear it with a long sleeve cotton sweater in off white. Love love love it.
Anon at 12:20- I ADORE the medallion shorts.
ReplyDeleteMy only complaint, which is why I won't be buying them, is that they are city fit.
Anyone else looking for shorts in favorite fit?
There is a link on the homepage now about a "Pick Me Up"...it takes you to cute critter flip flops that are only $6.50...looks like it might be today only!
ReplyDeleteWow! $6.50 for the flip flop critter wedges! Love it!! Too bad I have so many already I can't justify more, but everyone else should snatch them up! Even with shipping costs it is a great deal!!
ReplyDeletei am new to J Crew and this awesome blog. Can anyone tell me how often J Crew has its roll outs? Do they stock new items on a weekly basis, and if so, what day of the week usually? Or are their new items on a seasonal basis?
ReplyDeleteAlso to answer someone's question...i received the 20% plus the 10% on top for opening up an account.
Thanks!
ooh, I'm wondering if the "pick-me-up" will be a daily deal on the website? It has that look about it...How cool would that be?!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have or have tried on the Esplanade skirt? Is it TTS or should I size up/down?
ReplyDeleteAppGal, I don't have the Esplanade but have last year's skirt which looks almost identical. I sized down because of the elastic waistband, snd it worked great.
ReplyDeleteHi fellow JCAs!
ReplyDeleteOK, so I myself was quite underwhelmed with the latest new arrivals. However, I went to my local B&M yesterday which always gets the next rollout before anyone else. There were some cuter pieces on mannequins, not yet available in the store. I imagine this will be the next rollout in mid April or early May. What I definitely had to mention was the new unbelievable jewelry that's coming out. To die for! I got a necklace that was so new they had to call corporate to get the style number and price for me. It's beautiful, with a very vintage feel. I almost couldn't contain myself with the new jewelry...so there is hope, next roll out should be much more promising! Plus, I'm already excited about the Fall collection, so can't wait for that!
Anon at 8:50. Did you go to Garden State Plaza? I would love to drive over and see some of the jewelry you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteLaura: I mentioned this over at your blog, but THANK YOU for letting us know about the critter wedge flip-flops. 6.50 is awesome. If you just buy the flip-flops, the shipping is more. Wow!
ReplyDeleteI ended up grabbing a Parisian polo and racerback tank...so I spent a bit more than 6.50 plus shipping, but for three nice items, I think 50 (with shipping and tax) is pretty darn good.
So if you are a fan of these flip-flops (I live in mine during the summer), today is the day to get them.
Can anyone post IRL photos of the Coastal tunic? I'm so curious to see how it looks.
ReplyDeleteHey Dina! Can you tell me a little about the racerback tank? I see there's a shelf bra in there--how supportive is it? do you size up, down, or stick with your regular size?
ReplyDeleteHey, AppGal: I have bought a similar type of tank in the past and found the small works best for my "underwhelming" upper-body. Medium would be too large and look frumpy and could even possibly be too revealing if I bent over (yeah, no...not going that direction).
ReplyDeleteThis particular tank I have never tried, but tell you what, I will wear it and do a blog post about it next week. Maybe, if it comes on time I can wear it to Pi-Yo on Thursday night. That should give me an idea of how well it fits!!!
Enjoy your teacher work day. Blegh! :)
Ema - if you are able to go to a store there are some new graphic tees that just came out (Thurs I think) that are store only - at least for now, as they are not in the online rollout. I also love graphic tees and I think there are some really pretty ones. From memory there are at least 5 - 3 in one pattern in different colors, then 2 others in a different style, but there could also be a couple more. Good news too as they are not the $60 ones - more in the $40-50 range - still expensive of course but if you use the 20% PS discount a bit more palatable..
ReplyDeleteA
Oooh what a cool "pick me up"! I was wondering where you ladies saw the $6.50 flip flops! I hope they do this with other items! :)
ReplyDeleteIn the mail today, I received a 25%off multiple use coupon- "spring fling" is the promotion. This was like the one that was sent at Christmas. Hope more JCA's get one!
ReplyDeleteThe flip-flops on the "Pick Me Up" look to have an item # that is 2-3years old, ie. old merchandise they never got rid of...
ReplyDeleteI have the wedge flip flops and they give me a blister due to the way I have to pick up my foot and clench the material between my toes to walk.
They'll make a bundle on shipping w/promo's like this. :l
Jbird- I got one too today!! Perfect timing! I wonder if we will be able to combine it with tomorrows offer?
ReplyDeleteLadies, for those who do not know what the red promo card is ( or did not receieve one)I posted details on my blog ( Alexis, feel free to repost on your blog).
ReplyDeleteSlastena-
ReplyDeleteI hope we can combine! That would be the best deal I've gotten in a long time! I sent an email to Alexis with a scanned copy of the card, in case she wanted to create an entry. I look forward to meeting you tomorrow- I'm so excited!!
Anon at 9:22 -
ReplyDeleteYes, it was the Garden State store. You have to take a look! A lot of the jewelry was just put out and didn't have tags on them. They had to call corporate to find info on the necklace I purchased. They had a lot of really cute tops too, but only on mannequins. The store had not received the shipments yet. The stuff I saw there was much better than this latest rollout online.
Off subject...
ReplyDeleteDoes any have the cate slingback flats? How is the fit? Are they still available?
I agree with all those who have said that part of the issue is not just that the colors are all so neutral, but that the models are so washed out. It doesn't help that they're all 20something anorexic chic, either. Now, if J Crew would shoot a whole catalog with Lauren Hutton, with a few decent colors thrown in to substantiate the standard navy-and-white-and-khaki-in-spring stuff, I'd be in serious financial trouble. All I lust after these days are the cute spicy olive glasses frames, which at $325 I'm in no danger of buying without being able to try on. Everything I've bought in the last year I've regretted - the fabrics have seemed poorer quality than is the usual standard, and I've received more than one defective full-price item (a mis-sewn leather bag? a silk blouse with a hole in the seam?). If I'm going to spend any money at all right now, it's not going to be on neutrals, - it's going to be on INCREDIBLE pieces that are classic enough that I'll think they're incredible for several seasons.
ReplyDeleteI hate 3/4 length sleeves. Really, truly hate them. Would be so much more interested in so many more sweaters if J Crew wasn't chopping four inches off the sleeves to save cashmere costs... :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think the flip flops from the "pick me up" are old stock; I saw the skull and cross-bones critter flops at my local J Crew.
ReplyDeleteAnon@4pm - I totally agree! Enough with the 3/4 length sleeves already!!
I hate the 3/4 sleeves too.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to buy anymore Ringspun, Cashmere, and Perfect Fit Tees tees from J Crew they just do not hold up, and they are too thin. You can get better quality tees and cashmere from alot of places for a lot less money.
Spring 09 is bad, and the outlook for Fall 09 is really bad. I have only ordered 2 items in the last 2 months, I usually order alot more.
Really? A lot less? Could you point us to a specific tee available somewhere else at a specific price that is a LOT LESS than a specific J.Crew tee?
ReplyDeleteChill out Anon@4:49
ReplyDeleteanon 4:49 Chill out. Old Navy, Lands End has come out with a fitted basic tee in a host of colors, and the quality of the Old Navy one is better than what J Crew peddles. Lands Ens surpasses J Crew. So quit drinking the J Crew Koolaid and look around you just might be surprised.
ReplyDeleteanon 4:49 is snarky that is oka I get snarky too sometimes when I am having a bad day.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the ankle length toothpick jeans (haven't tried them on yet though - my opinion could change) and the super 150s glen plaid pants. Will definately wait on the 150s - cannot afford the high pricetag. If I get a red discount card in the mail, will consider purchasing the jeans. Too bad the 150s are online only - I would consider them with the discount card as well.
ReplyDeleteAnony@3:57
ReplyDeleteYes, BIG DECLINE in JCrew quality. Right out of the plastic I received a current spring sweater with 2 holes in it!
J Crews jeans are overpriced, the quality is not the best.
ReplyDeleteI really like J.Crew denim and the price point is fine for what it is - house, not designer brand. The cute styles fit nicely and the denim holds up to constant wear. I have hip-slungs that are over 5 years old and I wore them daily for months when I gained weight because they were the only jeans that fit me. They seemed to hide my extra tummy pounds and they still look decent to this day, even with my extra pounds now gone. There are no runs or wear in the denim, the legs are not twisted, the belt loops still intact, etc. Nothing wrong with the quality IMO.
ReplyDeleteThe matchstick, hip-slung and toothpick jeans in particular fit as well as any designer brand on me.
Anony@9:19
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely on the JCrew jeans! Nicely said:)
I have a pair from 2002 that are still going strong. I wore them to JCrew last week and the CS girl commented on how cute they were and I told her they were old JCRew! She was shocked and said I must take care of my jeans and I told her I do!
Ginny
All my JCrew jeans are from 2002--2007. I bought most on sale for $10-30 so I cannot complain. They are really nice jeans and have worn very well.
ReplyDeleteI think it is silly to waist hundreds of dollars on jeans. I have the means to do so but I choose not to but if other like them that is fine. Just not my cup of tea!
I think it's silly not to know the difference between WAIST and WASTE. That's my cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteQE 2 - ever type something really fast and then go back and look at what you typed? Lots of typos in the blogosphere, in case you haven't noticed. Maybe you're new to the concept.
ReplyDeleteI really don't like the ankle-length jeans. I'm tall and they seem to fall in an odd place on my leg. It looks like I'm wearing a pair that shrunk or something and I'm just not comfortable in them.
ReplyDeleteI do like the toothpick jeans in the longer length though, I wear mine a lot. Right now I'm considering the white matchstick jeans. Not the surplus as I don't like those patch pockets. Can anyone comment on whether the white matchsticks are TTS?
I want the cotton ruffle swirl tank! Let's bring it out early!!!! Has anyone purchased the firecracker top form their local store???
ReplyDelete
