J.Crew Featured In In-Style Magazine

A big "thanks!" to Pansy who not only let us know about some of J.Crew's new arrivals being featured in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the images itself or here & here to see it larger.)

The first item is the beautiful Crocodile Cocktail Cardigan (Item 14348; $88.00). J.Crew's website describes this three-quarter sleeve cardigan as having a "supersoft cotton in a 14-gauge knit" with an "allover graphic print." I have to say, I love the design and I like the starting price point!

The second item is the lovely Jacquard Treasure Blazer (Item 12231; was $250.00, now $159.99). I can't believe that this jacket just came out and is on sale already! ;) J.Crew describes this jacket as: "This brilliant metallic jacquard fabric was specially created for us from a vintage swatch. It's made from rich cotton/silk/Lurex® metallic threads." I think this jacket is very pretty. My only issue is this jacket also has bracelet sleeves, which I am not a super big fan of.

What are your thoughts on either items? Have you seen, tried on, or purchased these items? If so, please share with us your review! :) What are your thoughts on "bracelet sleeves" (e.g. are you a fan or do you dislike them)?

  1. I love the look of that cardigan! The print is so different, it would be cool if they had different colors of the print. This cardi is currently on my Wish list sitting around in my shopping cart! The price isn't too bad but it seems like a lot of new items are going on sale sooner than I had thought.. so I'll probably hold out on it for a while.

As for bracelet sleeves, I'm a fan. I think they look cute. Maybe since I'm petite, they seem to suite me more. My fiona has bracelet sleeves and i love 'em!

    Thanks for posting this!

  2. Ashley,

I agree. I don't like the boring brown of the crocodile print sweater...I wish it came in other colors.

Also, while other might thing $88 is OK for a cardigan. I don't. That is not a good price point for me...close to $100 for a 3/4 length sleeve sweater...no thanks.

  3. O/T I washed J Crew cardigan with the Laundress Soap in cold water ( (I have washed many cashmere sweaters from other companies with no problem), J Crew shrunk. What poor quality cashmere, the yarn is spun from Italy the quality is still very poor.

J Crew can be featured In Style mag for their unique styles, but they still sell poor quality pricey cashmere.

  4. Personally, I love bracelet sleeves because I have long arms, and most pieces look like they're three-quarter/bracelet length on me anyway. ;)

The crocodile print cardigan looks similar to the navy rattan-print cardigan that I have from Spring 2007 (I think, maybe Spring 2006?) that I love.

  5. silver lining,

Oh, I wish this one came in navy--now that would be prettier IMO

  6. casual crew,
Thanks for the post. What year did you get your sweater? Current season?

Now, I guess, I will have to take mine to the dry cleaners...wonder if that will even matter...

Maybe I will do lots of airing out between wearings...or spot cleaning.

  7. Love the jacquard blazer myself...the pattern looks like retro upholstery!

For me, bracelet sleeves jackets are essential work attire when wore over a cami in the warmer seasons. Great for professional cover-up, especially when it's 90 degress out and you work in a freezing air-conditioning box of an office 8-5!

  8. Ugh, shoddy cashmere strikes again! I bought 6 sweaters this season and basically, they are rubbish compared to other years. They are rough and you can see the fibers sticking out all over the place since the fibers used are shorter than other years. I would much rather pay more for better quality than get a "deal" for $100 on sale. My goal this week is to write a long letter to Mickey and let him know I will probably never purchase another Jcrew cashmere item unless they improve things. Not that it will necessarily accomplish anything, but at least I will feel better. Thanks for bearing with me while I rant!

  9. I think both are pretty, and I also like bracelet sleeves. :)

  10. anon 9:13, I do believe you could get quite a few signatures on that letter; mine, for starters. In December/January I bought the cashmere bateau in the purple and the plum because I loved the colors, and both already are pilling - I spent 20 mins. the other day defuzzing the purple one. My dream sweaters from fall 2007 are basically so awful-looking, I've begun throwing them away. So I'd definitely second your letter of complaint about j.crew's quality re: sweaters.

  11. OT, but does anyone know when they will announce the sweepstakes winners?

  12. I purchased the Crocodile cocktail cardigan and loved it but found for me, it's not a must have cardi. It's JCrew's same merino print cardi (like the nautical rope print, etc.) as always, fits TTS and it is pretty, comfy and a great staple.

  13. I love the white tipping on the cardi. I have a designer cardi with white tipping on navy/white plaid and another with white tipping on black and blue colorblock and they are classic pieces I wear regularly. I would buy this in a second if the print were a different color. Grey or navy would be my preference.

It's nice though and I still may purchase it because the neckline looks very classy and I think the print is so unique. At $88 it is a decent buy.

  14. Hey! I just checked the website and the version available does not have the white tipping or gold buttons. I definitely will not buy it as the tipping was the feature that upped the value for me.

We've seen this a few times now where J.Crew items in magazines are not exactly as available on the website. Wonder how many people buy it without realizing it is not the same. Definitely not as nice a look with the allover print. :(

  15. OK, the buttons in the mag are not gold, they are the same. But the photo definitely shows white tipping on the neckline, sleeves and waistband.

I'll stop haggling with myself now.

  16. Has jcrew refreshed the site today?

  17. Add me to list of custermer who won't by JCrew cashmere. I purchased an heirloom henley the end of Dec or or early Jan and it's already ready for the rag bag. Half of a season lifespan for a cashmere sweater is completely unacceptable! I've had "cheap" sweaters wear better. To those who say cashmere pills...not like this it doesn't. I still have some cashmere sweaters that I've had for years and they still look great.

  18. I guess I am the only one who doesn't care for the bracelet sleeves. I am tall and they make me look like I have out grown my clothes. I prefer 3/4 length instead.

  19. I won't ever buy J Crew cashmere again. You should really try Lands End if you haven't already. Just size down to get a more fitted look, and you will be thrilled with the quality. Plus if you are on their email list you get free shipping offers constantly ...

  20. On Saturday I spent 20 minutes de-pilling my JC cashmere hoodie. On Sunday I pulled out a 10+ year old cashmere cardigan from Country Road (anyone remember them?) that still looks like a million bucks. Add my name to the LE cashmere fan club, and to the list of complainers about JC cashmere . . . I will not be buying any more cashmere from JC!

I agree with you 100% No go on the bracelet sleeves. Makes it look like all my sweaters are too small or something...I have had enough to last me a lifetime. A few are OK but come on. about 95% of Jcrew's sweaters are annoying lengths as well as the jackets. At first it was fun...first few years but now I am done!

  22. The website says this cardi has 3/4 sleeves. Those are shorter than bracelet sleeves, right?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I really like the styles JC is offering in cashmere but I am hearing too many horror stories. If four year old Express cashmere tee's are holding up well and no piling JC needs a great big kick in the butt for shoddy quality.

  24. The cashmere is all from this year. I am going to have one high dry cleaning bill!

  25. The jacket remind me a bit of the peacock maggie from this winter. (At least from far away.) I would love to own this jacket, but I have to be sensible...if I have the peacock maggie and it looks like the jacquard...that would be a definitive NO in my book. :) But if you loved the peacock maggie and missed out, here is your opportunity to get something in the same kind of look!

    The cardigan is pretty, too!

  26. I'm curious about the cardi. Would love to see it in person. I love the fabric of the jacket. It might add a little bulk, but I still love it.
