Crewcuts Email: perfect dresses for everyday play

Crewcuts sent an email today letting us know about their clothes that are "perfect" for everyday wear. :)

J.Crew is also reminding us that today is the last day to take advantage of an extra 20% off final sale items, using promo code EXTRA20.

I did end up buying one item through this offer, the Merino Lili ruffle-chiffon cardigan (Item 10000; $110.00, now $39.99). I originally was *not* a fan of this cardigan. I passed by it several times in the store without giving it a second thought. However I just had to get the cardigan, after seeing a few posts from fellow Aficionadas, who looked amazing with it! :)

Were you able to take advantage of this latest promotion? If so, what did you get? :) If not, why (e.g. waiting for a better promo; website wasn't working)?

  1. after i was able to log onto the site (they were having some technical difficulties), i ordered the jacquard treasure blazer and the slub cotton puff-sleeve tee in heather dusk. they are both things i saw in store at full price and passed on...

  2. I bought the Palermo sandals in honey glaze and the metallic Rimini high heeled sandals.
That's it I am completely done...no more room.

Oh, and one more pair of gold matchstick cords.

  3. I purchased 2 of the trois rosette tanks. 7.99/each I was sold. I do know of the possible fraying on the flowers, but I didn't care at that price.

  4. First, let me say that their crewcuts knit dresses are really nice - my niece loves them! (As does her mommy :D) I bought 2 items for my niece with this offer. Nothing for me! However, I did visit today to try on some of the new items. I ended up with a navy and white tunic (not tunic length, though, so not sure why they call it a tunic) (also, sized up). It was very flattering and selling very well. Plus, it's machine washable. :) I also loved the slub cotton cottage dress(TTS), but could only get 1 fp item. The dress will be a definite buy in the future. I tried on the cabana dress (TTS) at the request of my sa - eh, maybe when it gets super marked down. It's listed as a cover-up, but it's thick enough and long enough to wear as a dress - with a tank, of course. I also tried on a new print top (the same print as the shorts in slastena's post with new catalog pics), but it was just okay. Maybe after 2-3 markdowns. I tried on 2 knit tops - one had a square neck and was a-line - just didn't like (sized down). The other was a deep v (but not so deep to need a tank) with flowers around the collar (TTS). Very pretty, but liked the tunic and knit dress better. Plus, ATL has one that I like as well. I will probably buy the ATL one as it's a nicer knit material (not so thin). Neither knit was see through, which was nice for a change.

  6. those little girls are so cute! i hope when i have kids they let me dress them up. :D

OT: i went to the B&M to exchange and ended up getting both sets of the bobby pins, so cute. i really, really dislike going to the store here. they are NOT friendly and today was no exception. i have half a mind to contact customer service about their lack of customer service.

  8. Twiga,

I have lots of experience with the BO dates. The only way you will get the top (sorry to say) is if someone returns one. Yes, they do put BO dates for this reason. silly, sad, but very true.

  9. ^ I don't agree. I've often had items on backorder and especially when it is one of their basics, like the Jackie cardi or shell, it is a case of an actual backorder.

If they were going to bank on returns for fulfillment, they would put all sold out stuff on backorder rather than refreshing the final sale.

  10. ^ I also have had success ordering waitlisted items, I usually order before it reaches the final sale stage though.

  11. I was able to get quite a few items with the 20% discount including the library cardi, the textured hemp jacket, wool wellies, serengetti belt, leather suit belt and a pair of jeans for my husband. The items were a good deal and the 20% off covered more than the shipping so I'm happy, as I usually am with J.Crew's promos.

  12. I was able to get a Jackie in golden cypress ($24) , a Corinne sweater in yellow ($40), a twisted cotton trench in natural (which I only liked after seeing on Chez Megans blog)($80) , and a snow colored cashmere cap ($16)- now I'll be stalking gloves to match.

I have had the CS reps online and a supervisor tell me that BO dates do include hopeful returns. I have had many BO items cancelled in the past year and a half--8 items total...b/c they were hoping for returns and NO items were truly backordered. I do A LOT of shopping at JCrew--about 1,200.00 per month. Yes, many items are true backorders but many are not as well.

  14. Alexis, I never saw the Merino Lili ruffle-chiffon cardigan available online! I wish I had gotten it too! All I got was the Chiffon pleated cardigan, sort of a consolation prize for not being able to get the Lili!

  15. I'm sure returns are shipped out to those waiting when possible, but to define a backorder to be filled by returns is just not the reality of large retailers like J.Crew. The corner boutique, maybe. But even that sounds hokey.

  16. i just found this blog and another JC blog (through the QVC BB board). does anyone post when there is an instore add'l % off.

add the blog to my RSS feeder

  17. ^ The weekly Seek and Find post is for people who visit the B&M stores and post about sales or % off promos.

Alexis usually makes a separate post when there is a % off promo online. I've never seen her miss one yet.

  18. Seek & Find is also helpful when some are looking for a specific item/size. Those who see it in their B&M can post and help each other out.

  19. Thanks for the info on the Backorders... I have only had 1 before and it came a month earlier than they said it would and of course I was out of town when it arrived. Thankfully they sent me an e-mail and I had a friend swing by to pick it up. I sure hope they are not waiting for a return to fulfill my order:((
FYI- for those that love the Fresco print like me (LOVE IT!!) The Cypress color is a perfect match for the green in the print. I have the Fresco tank & Cardigan and plan to mix and match with my Cypress Jackie and Shell.
Sorry- OT from this post... But to stay on topic I love everything Crewcuts and especially their dresses-TDF

  20. The crewcut knit dresses are so cute. I love knit dresses myself, for everyday play. ;)

The latest promo was good to me. I managed to catch the site right after an update last week and snagged a few items from my wishlist. It would be great if J.Crew would add the wishlist feature to the site so I wouldn't have to keep a spreadsheet myself.

Man, talk about addicted. Keeping my own spreadsheet of wishlist items. Although it's not just for J.Crew, I keep a list of all the stuff I want, organized by store.

Seriously though, it would be great for J.Crew to add a wishlist feature. Or at least let us save the bookmarks. :P

  21. I purchased the Merino Lili ruffle-chiffon cardigan this past January and after two wearings the chiffon petals really started to fray. I know this has been discussed before but I'd really try that starch trick. To me it's not wearable so I'm in the process of removing them.

On a side note I was at the U Village in Seattle yesterday and there is a soon to be store front for Crewcuts! All it said was "coming soon". It's a good location for it I think.

  22. Free shipping on $195+ with code MUSTHAVE.

    (Seriously, JC?)

  23. Oh, and "up to 30% off select women's tops/camis", the operative words being 'up to' and 'select'.

Sad but true. JCrew does rely on returns for some of its backordered items.
