"Thanks!" to Kelley, Julie (in this post), as well as Anon at 12:24 AM, Green_Dino, and Nathan (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew is offering 20% off women's (full-priced) sweaters with promo code SWEATERS. This offer expires 11/13/08. (Click here for the email J.Crew sent stating this offer is also available at stores.) :)
Also, the fine print reads "select" sweaters- so I don't know if the offer applies to all full-priced sweaters like it reads in the title (which is confusing).
Let me begin by saying I do appreciate the offer and I am happy to see there is a code available. However, remember when these kinds of offers did not require a special code- they were automatically discounted on the website (just like the additional percent of the sale)? I much rather have the discount be automatic than a code (making shopping easier- which was one of the reasons why J.Crew upgraded the system in the first place). :)
What are your thoughts on the code? Are you planning to get any sweaters? If so, which ones and why? :)
There is lots of small print with this offer...it says ALL but really means SELECT. I don't like when JCrew tricks the consumer and no matter how you look at it they are here...it should say SELECT first of all. Not in small print. This code did not work for me on the full priced sweater I want on a mock check out so it is select full priced sweaters only. I won't be using this coupon. Not that great...good though if the sweater you want qualifies and you don't mind paying for shipping. I don't have the time to go through each and every sweater and see which ones qualify and which ones don't. As you pointed out, Alexis, I'd prefer they just mark the sweaters that qualify down and not waste my time with this select business...
ReplyDeleteI guess any offer is better than no offer, but I'm quite disappointed that the sweaters are no longer on promotion :( Thus, the merino turtleneck (and other sweaters) now costs more than before the promotion...
ReplyDeleteonce you factor in tax and shipping, it's really no deal at all. clever marketing that's it...
ReplyDeleteI think this is absolutely not an offer at all. Last night, I was surfing J.Crew as usual at 11pm at night and many of those sweaters (especially the cardigans) were marked 59.50 or 69.50 from the usual 98 or 88. Now their prices are back to "regular" price, just so you can use a code? It doesn't make me feel any better, if that's what they are going for. I agree with Alexis that the it's better just to offer the discount, and make us feel better with the free shipping in these hard times that make us feel like we are getting a deal, when in fact we NOW have to pay for shipping. Too much of a retail game, I think.
ReplyDeleteThis would basically just about pay for your shipping...other than that it's not really a great deal, especially if it doesn't apply to all sweaters. The whole process of making these offers a seperate code instead of automatic is disappointing and absurd...they are now not a *deal* at all.
ReplyDeleteI just sent JCRew an email telling them that this promo is not customer friendly. I mean who has time to play around all day and see if they sweater they want qualifies or not???? THanks but no thanks. I did thank them for having an offer but told them it is not an easy coupon to use.....
ReplyDeleteHas anyone else noticed that the Bateau cashmere and Eva cashmere were in the sale section for at least the past week. Now they are back at full price... so I guess you can now buy them with the 20% off sweaters discount. big deal... just like it was before.
ReplyDeleteBTW those cashmere sweaters were on sale last week for $130 each.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anony about emailing JCrew and letting them know how us Aficinadas (without using that name) feel about this so called offer. I really hope some of us do:)
ReplyDeleteI actually have a problem with this promotion, and I usually do not find fault with this kind of thing. It clearly states "all" sweaters, how can there even BE small print for an offer like that. It does not make sense and makes a mockery of the promotion and the consumer. They could so easily have made the promotion for select sweaters and no one would have taken issue. This really makes me question the company's intent for the first time. This is a misleading bad business practice. Also, if this is in stores, can you imagine how difficult it will be for SA's to keep straight. This one is, this one isn't, what a mess.
ReplyDeleteThe code issue does not bother me at all, if that is how they want to bestow their discounts, that works for me. A non-issue compares to the misleading wording.
I wish it were for men's sweaters, too! I was going to order my boyfriend a sweater for xmas today.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the rest of you. This isn't really an offer at all. An offer would be for the 20% PLUS free shipping. When shipping is almost $20 a 20% off coupon does no good whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteHeather - I have it on pretty good authority that J. Crew is really going to be doing more promotions this Holiday season than ever before. I would wait on that sweater, I am quite sure a promotion will be forthcoming.
ReplyDeleteAnyone check the inventory on some of the cashmere sweaters, less than 50 on most of them, some 3 or 4. The only time you are going to see 20% + fs is after the 25th of Dec. not in November.
ReplyDeleteYou can probably get 20% off and free shipping by using a red phone. I detest the red phone double standard and think it's ridiculous to drive to a store just to use the damn phone, but I admit that it is a good ploy to get people into the store.
ReplyDeleteAlexis - I miss the automatic percent off, too. This is embarrassing, but last night I dreamed that J. Crew had an automatic 60% off sale items, and I used a free shipping code. Isn't that sad???
ReplyDeleteThis is not a very good promotion. Right now, one can buy cashmere sweaters from Ann Taylor on promotion (buy three and they are 40% off), use a additional 20% off code and only pay $6 shipping. The sweaters come out to about 50% off.
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago, I was able to buy 3 sweaters at Banana Republic when they were 30% off and stack another code for 20% off.
Really J Crew has the worst "deals" on cashmere until the after Christmas sales.
anon @ 9:04: Thank you for the info. What sweaters have you noticed seem to be in limited amounts?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I would just order a sweater from the red phone if my B&M didn't have or carry it and not pay shipping ... that's actually a better deal on most sweaters than the 20% off!! (I wonder if you would get free shipping from the red phone AND 20% off the sweater... hmmm)
ReplyDeleteI got excited when I 1st went to JC's page this morning b/c I thought it was 20% off fall sale. Oh well!
So, I know a bunch of us are waiting for the Cashmere Heirloom Henley to go on sale, so my question is, is it included in this sale? I have my rewards card still to use (only $25) and am waiting to see what new arrivals I can use it on, or things I've been waiting to get.
ReplyDeleteMarta - According to CS that heirloom henley is selling really, really, well. It is included on this promotion (I just checked) but would not expect it to go on sale in the most popular colors anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteSomething unusual too. When I checked this for Marta, the promotional discount did not come up in the little order totals area for the henley. The price was just suddenly 20% less.
ReplyDeleteAll of the Cashmere Heirloom Henley sweaters are in such limited quantities that I don't think they will ever make it to sale AND unfortunately, the SWEATERS code does not apply to them. That really sucks in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteWell it didn't come up sale for me, and when I used the SWEATERS code there was nothing removed in the promo box. Hmmmm...
ReplyDeleteKeep digging that hole for yourself JCrew! This might be the most ridiculous promo yet...everything they do lately is pi$$ing me off. I think I'm taking a time-out from JCrew.
ReplyDeleteJcrewjunkie - the sweaters code does apply. Try again. It just looks different because it takes the amount of the price of the sweater, it does not appear like a regular promotion.
ReplyDeleteOK, now it is coming up with the 20% automatically deducted (and it didn't just moments ago). I did do a quick check and the Poppy color has the most available while the Tangelo, Spearmint, and Peony seem to have the least (of the color I checked, that is).
ReplyDeleteThat's weird. So consensus is it's not included? I think I would have bit the bullet on this one if it was included and I used my rewards card. If I was able to order from a red phone and get free shipping, at least my total is less than the full price. I just can't buy it at full price and it looks like this way might be the best if I hope to get one before they sell out. So my next decision is, which color? I was leaning toward navy from the beginning, but am now considering putty (I am quite fair and this is a warmer white neutral that could work). What do you all think?
ReplyDeleteWait, does the code only apply to colors? Are neutrals like black, putty and navy still FP?
ReplyDeletemarta b. Pick what you like and order it!
ReplyDeleteMarta - It IS included. As a matter of fact, I just went through a random sampling of about 12 sweaters and every single one was included. From the Butterfield jacket, to the feather sweaters, heirloom henley. Everything. They were all included. I might need to apologize to J. Crew for my earlier rude comment. Maybe it really is all sweaters. Could people's confusion about what is included be because it is not showing in the promotions box at checkout? Has anyone found a sweater that really does not work on further investigation???
ReplyDeleteOK, I am feeling a bit better now. The 20% does come off but it comes off NOT in the normal promo box but off the price of the sweater. This is really not clearly stated on the check out page unless you do the math and then process your order. Very confusing but it does seem to make the promo more legit.
ReplyDeleteBut on second thought.....who needs a promo that is confusing! Shouldn't this be simple...my goodness...more JCRew craziness.......just mark the sweaters down like old times and don't make us use these annoying codes.
ReplyDeleteAll - This seems to be the most active thread, I apologize for going OT. I am strangely attracted to that new Lucinda Cable cardigan. Actually, I would go so far as to say I love it. However, I am a little worried about that blend of fibers. Does anyone know what the polyacrylic adds? I know the alpaca gives loftiness and warmth and the merino is strong, but what does polyacrylic do?
ReplyDeletethis would only be a good deal if the sweaters already on promotion were reduced an additional 20%, or like some of you mentioned if free shipping was included. i can't tell you how many people i saw turning sweaters back at the register because they "misinterpreted" the prices. people actually want to buy things they just feel like it's unjustified without a good deal. jcrew should capitalize on that rather than hope customers will fall for their tricks.
ReplyDeletejenn brak if u like the swtr, buy it! Dont think there are any fiber technicians on here if there evn is such a thing;0
ReplyDeletePromotions only last for one or two weeks and then they get moved from the sale section back to full price (online).
ReplyDeleteThis code makes me think that JCrew's stock needs to go down more. Sorry. But I love and hate JCrew at the same time.
ReplyDeleteanon - You are totally right! I am being silly. I was just hesitant about the polyester part of such an expensive sweater. The only other sweaters I have bought that were that pricey were pure alpaca or pure cashmere.
ReplyDeleteOT
ReplyDeleteI think I read somewhere on here yesterday where someone was wondering why every time they logged back into the sale section more items would appear-for ex. 9 accessories jumps up to 30 accessories. Well, that happened to me today.
I think the website/inventory/warehouse connect is far better as I have ordered the last of an item and watched it be removed from my cart one second later and thus recv'd it-yea!! The website is clearly still screwed up with regard to items that don't show up at all yet looking them up by item number they are there OR they randomly show up etc,. It's almost worth calling in to ask about specific sale items (numbers) if you have the name/number and you really want it.
BTW- Caliglam--If you read this, did you get the Navy sparkle sequin cardi? What do you think and how are you going to wear it? It is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!
jenn_brak, Ever heard of google? Use it to find out about the fabric content...
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 11:10,
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to suggest that so snootily. A simple suggestion would have sufficed without the attitude.
jenn_brak,
Yes, Google or Wikipedia or something would be a good source to find out what that fabric is.
OT: Has anyone received their Cascasing Flower Astrid Jacket yet? Do you like it? What color did you get? I would love to hear a review. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI can think of several sweaters that I would jump at the chance to buy with 20% off PLUS free shipping. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning keep that, Marta. Can we please it nice around here? We get plenty of snootiness in our daily lives as it is. AR
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify. The cash heirloom henleys ARE included in this sale. The discount DOES NOT show up in the "promotional discount" box during checkout. It just takes 20% off the regular prices. I just placed an order and that is what happened. As a matter of fact I think the 20% off might apply to all full priced sweaters like the email claimed. I put at least 20 sweaters in my shopping bag even some recent releases and they were all 20% off.
ReplyDeleteAll - thank you for your help in finding out about the polyfiber. Of course I Googled it first. If you can find an answer based on what Google returns, I would love to hear it. I also tried Websters and Ask.com if you want to get really detailed.
ReplyDeletemarta b,
ReplyDeleteI am very PROUD of my attitude but come on people get real...this is a blog about JCrew clothes not research!
what is it you are trying to learn about this particular fabric/thread? I am not sure why we are all paying so much attention to your inquiry when it is a sweater. I am confused? What does this particular part of the fabric have to do with your decision to purchase the sweater? Someone has too much time on their hands.
ReplyDeleteMy God people. I do not care that much about a bloody fiber. I was curious because it is rare to find a $300 dollar sweater that is a blend. I could not find an answer on my own, so thought someone else might know what this adds to the fabric. I do not know why this would irritate so many people, but will be sure to only ask simple questions about color or fit in the future.
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried on the Cashmere Heirloom Henley or seen in stores? I am wondering if it is running bigger like the Cashmere Ts and Vneck, or it it is more slim?
Would love to hear about it if anyone has seen or tried on!
Thanks,
Jliz
Ok so if someone asks a question that is ridiculous or you think it is a waste of your time to answer it when she could easily google it, then don't waste your time answering it. Maybe there's someone else on the boards who wants to reply to her or give her whatever info they have, that is fine, I don't know why it has to be so offensive to you that you have to reply with snide comments. If you don't like it, move on.
ReplyDeletejenn_brak - you are totally within your right to question a fiber blend, especially on a sweater this expensive. I do not know what value polyacrylic adds, but may I suggest that you call J.Crew CS and ask them? Hopefully they will be able to provide you with an answer and you can then make your decision as to purchase or not. It is a lovely sweater, though! :-)
ReplyDeleteJliz-
ReplyDeleteI found the heirloom henley (and cashmere T's that you mentioned) to run true to size, unlike other styles that are running big this season.
Hope this helps,
Allie
I did not receive this 20% coupon...why? I seem to receive some of their emails, not all. Strange since I have a J. Crew credit card, shop online and in store regularly, and give my email address every time they ask at the register. Can anyone help me understand this?
ReplyDeleteWhat has happened to this blog?, it has become so nasty and people have NO RESPECT for one anothers opinions. You cannot ask a simple question without getting a smart ass answer back from someone who had has a bad day, get real people this is a blog about clothes! Take the negative attitude somewhere else!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know whether the teachers discount could be applied on top of the 20% off sweater promo over the red phone? And would shipping apply since the item is on promo, and not full-priced? TIA
ReplyDeletejenn_brak: I was on the phone with CS checking the status of 2 orders placed on Friday that are still *open*, and asked her about the sweater for you. The CS said that Polyacrylic (Polyester and Acrylic blend) is often used to help a garment retain it's shape and resist wrinkles. HTH!!! Thanks for your question, btw...very interesting to know, especially on a sweater that cost $268. :)
ReplyDeleteI just got an email that said this offer was good in stores. Hooray,
ReplyDeletebecause then there won't be any shipping, and my store offers teacher/student discount on all purchases! I'll be there today
after school.
I know I am a little late with this... but I think it is perfectly fine for anyone to ask a question relating to fabrics on this blog. (Chances are, someone else has a similar question too.) If you do not want to answer you do not have to. There is no need to be mean. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd now back to J.Crew! :)
A former post said J Crew stock isn't doing so great. So why not knock off 20% off all sweaters including those for dudes?
ReplyDeleteJCrewDude: I thought it would have been a good idea to include the 20% off full priced sweaters for men too. Maybe they will still do it? :)
ReplyDeleteFYI...one of the $13 sweater vests I just purchased from Target is also a Polyacrylic/Wool blend...
ReplyDeleteJW.. what does an "open" status on an order mean?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I will not be using this coupon either. 20% just covers shipping and maybe a slight portion of sales tax. No thank you. I love you J Crew but you are loosing a lot of business from me. Why pay full price here when I can go ANY WHERE else and get a great discount (including saks and Neimans).
ReplyDeletejen brak: the use of a synthetic fiber will increase the durability of the knit and help it retain it's shape.
ReplyDeleteOpen means the order is released to the warehouse to be picked and packaged up. If there is a tracking number beside it, it is in the process to be shipped out soon.
ReplyDeleteFriday orders seem slow to be filled, I placed 2 orders within 3 hrs apart, 1 left last night, the other is still open with no tracking #.
OT, just wanted to thank whomever posted the M&O 30% off code the other day. I just placed my first order with them, and with stuff on sale plus the 30% off (and free ship) I got 2 prs jeans and 4 tops for under $200!
ReplyDeleteBtw to those who liked the JC ruffle henley, M&O has some nice sweater versions at a good price.
OT-
ReplyDeleteFor everyone that doesn't want to pay 40$ for a tissue Turtleneck-Gap has them for 17.50% if you buy 2 or more. Plus, you can get 25% off anything online today. No, the colors aren't as great as J Crew's, but they're not 40$ each either.
I just got the email.. "pinch yourself"??? This is not a very good deal IMO because it only applies to select full-priced sweaters. After you factor in shipping and tax, it's not really a discount at all. Tricky!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteSeveral people have asked this but there haven't been any good answers yet. How does the heirloom henley cashmere sweater run compared to the v neck cashmere sweater? I go from XS to S in the cashmere and I don't want to order the wrong one.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I have to drive 45 min one way to get to the nearest store and 1 hour 15 minutes the other way to get to the next one, and NEITHER of them carries cashmere. One of them used to and now neither have it. Quite disappointing.
Have you called CS to ask for the measurements so you can compare the 2 sweaters since you have not come across a good answer yet. The heirloom on line description says it is fitted.
ReplyDeletehdayton: Great answer! You rock!! :)
ReplyDeleteI just called to see if the 10% off for giving your email was still valid, hoping I could get 30% off a sweater (they stacked it for a friend at a B&M store) and was told that coupon has expired!
ReplyDeleteGood for them if they can sell all this inventory at these prices- they must really know their market. I am most disappointed that they do not have a flat reasonable shipping fee. Nordstroms, Gap Group, Ann Taylor all do this and stack their discounts. I am getting the basics from those stores, and only picking up a few different, embellished, or ruffled things from JCrew. Those stores also have great reward programs.
The Gap Group has 30% F&F, and although the quality isn't the same, some JCrew items, particularly the dream stuff pills like mad. I also had a pair of JCrew cords split on me when I bent down to pick up my dog (no-they weren't too tight!). Ann Taylor cashmere lasts forever (I have some 10 year old sweaters that have even gone through the wash). I prefer the JCrew style and cut, but you can find some JCrew-ish things if you shop carefully.
My friends in retail tell me all this stuff comes out of the same mills and factories anyhow.
FFM: Why are orders from Friday taking so long to ship? Did CS give you an answer. I have two orders that still show OPEN.
ReplyDeleteI know this is off topic, but I found that I can no longer put in quantities over 10 (to check the stock). Is this just happening to me or to others as well? Thanks in advance! :)
ReplyDeleteI really believe that depending on the time that you order on Fridays your order goes behind all the ones from the weekend. CS told me they don't know why this and I had the same problem before the upgrade too. I try and avoid ordering on Friday pm.
ReplyDeleteI got my Cascading flower jacket today. It came nicely wraped in a box with a bow on it. They included a garment bag in which to hang it. That being said I'm not sure I'm going to keep it. When I saw the picture in the lookbook on the collection part of the website, I thought for sure I would love it. I then saw the picture through the regular site, on a different model, and I second guessed even ordering it in the first place. It didn't look as good on the different model, and I don't know how I feel about it on me. I had my hair up at the time, and really I want to see how it lookes with my hair down and fixed. The flowers running down the sides are gorgeous and "cascade" just like I think they should, but the flowers around the neck I'm not crazy about. I can't put my finger on why, except maybe they are too flattened? And I wouldn't know where to begin on fluffing them up. They are a very heavy material, and each individual flower is made up of a lot of petals. I understand during a shipping process something that delicate can be squished, but they just don't lay right to me. And I'm not sure they're squished, just that they're so heavy they don't perk up like the ones on the jacket from the lookbook. Considering the jacket is so expensive, I feel like I really should LOVE it to keep it. The material is nice, and the silk the flowers are made out of is really soft and incredible. You really just want to touch the flowers when you're wearing the jacket. Lastly, on fit. I am between sizes in Jcrew- I vary from a size 4 to a size 6. I ordered the 6 in this because I had heard it was running small, the 6 fits fine to me but I also feel like the 4 would have fit nicely as well. It's not as boxy as the berry trim astrid, and I think that because of the fabric it molds to your body better. The jacket is definately cropped, and the sleeves are definately bracelet length.
ReplyDeleteAlexis I am able to do it up to 99.
ReplyDeleteAlexis: Using Cashmere Olivia shell item 97083 in Navy I input a qty of 99 and Olivia showed qty of 12 left.(I had to search on Olivia, I don't think it's out in sale section but not sure). So it still works.
ReplyDeletealexis I am not having that problem... i just checked a shirt and it said that I could order 99
ReplyDeleteAnony at 2:30 PM: I believe the items come from the same shops but what about the fabrics? I saw a boys plaid shirt at Gap this year that is the exact same shirt JCrew had last year (my husband has the JCrew men's version). I wonder how it all works. Can Gap get hold of JCrew's fabrics from a previous season and use them? Obviously I have zero knowledge about how retail/clothing industry is run ;)
ReplyDeleteAnony@2:46
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly on the C. F. Astrid! I loved it on the first model but when it showed up online I thought of cancelling it b/c on the second model it did not look as pretty and I thought the neckline looked funny! I thought about cancelling my presale order as well. You could have read my mind with your comments.
"Anony@2:46
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned about the flowers being "heavy" online the neckline...does the jacket seem heavy to wear?
ALONG the neckline not online!
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 11:32 AM: I recently received the cascading flower Astrid in ivory. It is a very nice, mid-weight jacket with beautiful almost ruffled flowers. The boucle seems thicker than that of the fuschia boucle Astrid with one flower sold in many stores. I find the ivory slightly less bright than what's shown on the model online, and the roses have less of a yellow ting. With all the flowers, I do think I would have liked the jacket better with only two pockets. Seems to have too much going on with four.
ReplyDeleteFor most ladies familiar with J. Crew jacket sizing, they would find this Astrid true to size. For me, i think i'm in between sizes. I feel a slight tightness at the shoulder blades, but a larger size would be too loose in the bodice, especially if i go by how it's modeled on the website. Since i am much shorter than the model, the jacket hits me at the hip, right below the natural waist, and the sleeves fall 3/4 to bracelet length.
I am wondering about this jacket in black. Even though i typically prefer ivory, i think the black may be more versatile, especially after seeing color of the ivory flowers. Also, i am a bit at loss as to what to pair this cute jacket with because i don't want it to appear too dressy or out of sync with simple wool pants. Funny thing is it looks fabulous with jeans. :) I guess the verdict is still out for me due to the sizing and color.
Thanks everyone for letting me know that you are able to check quantities by entering more than 10- I really appreciate it! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for the great Astrid reviews ladies- I will be making a post with those reviews for tomorrow! :)
ReplyDeleteanon @ 2:46: Thanks! That makes perfect sense since my Friday orders still show OPEN and my order from Saturday shows it should be arriving today!
ReplyDeletecleo26...that is why I sized up in this jacket...the shoulder measurement was slightly smaller than other jackets...I have measurements for all my jackets recently bought 5 total to compare the measurements of the C.F. Astrid and all 5 are the same except the C.F.A. was a bit smaller. That is why I sized up...also the bust was a bit smaller....yes, the waist and sweep were bit larger but shoulder and bust measurement in a jacket are more important for comfort and personally I do not like form fitting jackets...not my style:)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the ivory color description. Sounds prettier than the online colors:)
Cleo,
ReplyDeleteDo you not like the color of the ivory flowers?
Anon @ 2:46 PM: I agree with you about the flowers at the neckline. They do seem crushed, and considering their weight, i'm not sure about how to fluff them and keep them "vibrant." Like you, i really wanted to love this jacket, but as i mentioned before, i'm still deciding. :)
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 3:09 PM: My pleasure. I agree with you about comfort across the shoulders and bust. I am trying to reconcile that with my preference for a more form-fitting look, so we'll see.
Anon @ 3:12 PM: It's not so much that i don't like them. It's that i was expecting something else. Having seen them in real life, they seem to have more of an antiqued look than the brightness shown online. I have to decide which i like better. :)
Come on guys- leave the nasty, snide comments out of this. They serve NO purpose. We're here to help each other, not cut each other down by posting anonymous snippity remarks. If you have to post something mean anonymously, don't post it at all. And if you want to post something snarky, do it behind an actual name. Srsly.
ReplyDelete:(
Alexis- I can't wait! I've been thinking about using my rewards for that jacket in the purple, but the different camera angles on it makes me fear it might be bulky. I can't wait to hear what you guys have to say about it! :)
ReplyDeleteHi All - been lurking for awhile and thought I would help out on the fiber mystery.
ReplyDeletePolyacrylic is a manmade fiber like polyester. In general these add strength, flexibility, and abrasion resistance to the fabric. Not knowing the mill's intention with the addition, I would venture to say that it is help stabilize the alpaca fiber which is fragile in nature.
Yes there are 'fiber technicians' with several schools with Textile programs.
As for the cloth question, retailers often buy the similar or in some instancesthe same fabrics especially for more mundane patterns as plaids for 'basic' merchandise. Rarely would a retailer like JCrew source fabrics that are made solely for them unless it was a special collection and priced appropriately. I think they even note it at times - perhaps the Baird McNutt (?) linen and maybe I saw it in relation to a certain wool?
O/T Alexis: Can you please shed some light as to why the pages are taking so long to load ?(this does not happen on any other site that I go to) is Google attaching some tracking program..just wondering.
ReplyDeletecleo26,
ReplyDeleteWould a hair dryer on low or cool be able to fluff up the flowers? sometimes just letting the garment hang lets out some of the flatness over the course of time....
Found a new code BT-60 which gives free shipping for orders >$150. Not sure where it came from but I just tried it and it worked!
ReplyDeleteAnon at 3:23 PM: Is the blog or J.Crew taking a long time to load? If it is this blog, I will definitely look into it. Just let me know. :)
ReplyDeleteNikki: Thanks for sharing the code. There is a post about it (it was just 3 minutes before your comment- so the same time practically!) Thanks again! :)
The JCrew site is down again. SHOCKING!
ReplyDeleteanon at 3:01... I wouldn't say that the jacket itself is heavy to wear, but I would call it substantial!
ReplyDeleteAlexis, it takes my computer and my phone forever to load your site as well. No problems with Jcrew or any other site. The comment pages load instantaneously, but the home page takes awhile. Hope you can figure it out and thanks for looking into it!
Alexis: It is this blog only, it is been crashing my pc with each page load.
ReplyDeleteThanks casual-crew.
Hello hello! That sucks about the blog taking forever! :( I will definitely look into this. I hate to be so off topic, but is this problem with loading recent, or has it been like this for a month, or has this been going on longer? I ask because it might have something to do with the sidebar (like the blogroll). Thanks in advance again! :)
ReplyDeletepast couple of weeks. Definately around the time you added a lot of links to the homepage :)
ReplyDeleteanon 3:35 - The site is updating, I have noticed that it goes down approx. the same time each day. Hopefully the Friday orders will be updated with tracking numbers.
ReplyDeleteAlexis-the blog is loading fine for me. However, when ever you add a post with a slideshow, it takes a long time to load
ReplyDeleteAlexis: It has been at least for a month or a little longer.
ReplyDeleteSo I went to my B&M at lunch and ordered the Cashmere Heirloom Henley through the red phone. I have only used the red phone once or twice before to make an order. She waived the shipping for me, applied the 20% discount, and I used my $25 rewards card, so the total price was $117 (and change). Really not bad considering this sweater probably won't go to sale as someone stated a CS stated they're selling really well. I got the navy in a medium. Lately I've been b/w a small and medium in JC, but I'm glad someone wrote that they are TTS to fitted so I think the medium should be fine. Plus I usually layer. Oh, and this color was backlisted to Nov. 25th, so will have to wait a little for it. Ah well. Will report when I get it!
ReplyDeleteThank you every one about letting me know if the blog loads okay or slow for you. (I actually check the blog load time on different computers- at home, at school, at friends' homes, to check on the quickness).
ReplyDeleteI will definitely play around with the homepage to see if I can make the load time faster.
Again, thanks to all those for letting me know- I really appreciate it!!! :)
How are you all able to check the inventory on J.Crew's website?
ReplyDeleteAlexis, great to see you commenting again!
ReplyDeleteAlexis-I had the super slow load problem on my 3 yr old PC. I have a new Mac and the pages now load in a flash.
ReplyDeleteOh, and can anyone tell me if they send you an order confirmation to your email if you order through the red phone? I haven't had many order mishaps as everyone and this is my first order in a few months so I'm hoping I won't have any issues. TIA!
ReplyDeleteNew sale items! Herringbone Ecole: $89.99!
ReplyDeleteLove: thanks for the nice comment! :) (P.S. I am loving your screen name!) :)
ReplyDeleteAnon at 3:57PM: Interesting about the Mac/PC. Do you use the same internet browser?
I am thinking that the pages loading slowly might have to do with how many links I have on the side bar- especially if they are dynamically created (like the blog roll and posts by month).
jcrewjunkie: My orders finally got tracking numbers a little while ago...the CS said it's because they are *extra busy* due to the holidays, but after reading what anon @2:46 said about Friday orders...I'm more inclined to think that is the reason why. I have previously placed orders on Saturday, and they had a tracking number by Monday evening...guess I'll try NOT to order on Fridays anymore. ;)
ReplyDeleteAlexis: I don't have a problem with the blog loading, either.
How do you guys check inventory on a sweater? I cant see anything online.
ReplyDeleteMarta B,
ReplyDeleteI often have to order from the red phone bc my store is small, and I always get an email confirmation. It sometimes takes a couple of hours though, not sure why. HTH!
Alexis- I am using Safari for browsing. I haven't had one slow load since I got this machine, (Aluminum Macbook). ---Anon 3:57
ReplyDeleteFFM & Anon 3:57: Thanks for letting me know that the site is working okay.
ReplyDeleteI changed the blogroll so its not dynamically created (just text & links). Hopefully that helps.
I know I changed how to subscribe to this blog (using Bloggers drop down buttons). I can always change that too.
I will definitely work on this. Again, thanks to everyone letting me know! :)
alexis: I opened up the blog using Safari and I don't have the same problem as using IE. IE crashed on the links and blogroll everytime.
ReplyDeleteAnon at 5:35 PM: Quick question, which "links" caused your computer to crash? (The post links for the month, or something else?) Does the blogroll still cause your comp to crash too? (Because I just changed the blog roll to be just text & links, where before it was dynamically created.) Sorry to ask so many questions, I just want to see if I can narrow the problem down and fix it. :)
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 5:35 PM: Was this IE on a Mac? I ask because Microsoft no longer supports IE for Mac, so it's quite possible that this along with other sites do not work well in IE (5.2.3 latest version).
ReplyDeleteAlexis: I'm not having any problems with the site loading, and i used three browsers, Safari, Firefox, Camino -- with the latter being the slowest but likely due to caching. Where i seem to have had problems the last days was loading the site on my portable phone. It would take an inordinate amount of time compared to three days ago.
ReplyDeleteAlexis, I too have noticed that the blog takes forever to load. Because of this, I usually open it in 2 or 3 different screen pages to navigate throughout the blog quickly. Anyway, I agree w/Love, it's great to see you commenting again! I really think your presence here makes the blog a whole lot better :)
ReplyDeletesteph and anon -- to check inventory, put 99 in the number of items box. when it adds to your cart, it will show whether there are 99 or fewer items.
ReplyDeleteHi Cleo26! Thanks for letting me know that the different internet browsers on your PC worked fine but not your phone. :) It is interesting that the slowness on your phone has happened in the past three days. I haven't changed the website layout recently, so I am wondering if it has something to do with the post images. I will investigate this. :)
ReplyDeleteAnon at 6:07 PM: Thanks for the nice words- I missed commenting too! :) Was the issue of the blog taking a long time to load for you recent or has this been happening for you for awhile. Did you find that the blog's main page took a long time to load, or individual posts? Again, I am sorry to ask so many questions. I am just trying to see what the cause(s) behind the slowness is/are so I can fix them. :)
Alexis, the blog has always been a bit slow for me, but even more so recently. I thought it was just a problem with my computer until I read some of the earlier comments. And it's the main page that takes a really long time to load. Hope this helps! Anon @6:07
ReplyDeleteAlexis: On the phone, it could have been a number of things -- the broadband connection, pictures, my browser, trying to read flash, etc. From my end, no worries, though. I only noted it because it not happened before. :)
ReplyDeleteI am really sorry everyone for being so off topic... but I find the feedback on the blog's slowness useful (in order to remedy it). :)
ReplyDeleteAnon @6:07: Just to clarify, when the main blog page is slow for you, is the whole page slow -or- do the posts on the left appear while the right hand side bar/links take time to appear? Thanks in advance! :)
Thanks Cleo26! :) I will look into just in case you are not the only one. :)
ReplyDeleteI anon 5:35 My pc is not a mac, it is crashing on the right side of the screen under the bookmark section. However, I have just tried it in IE and is working much better, there is a delay when trying to leave the comment page to get back to the home page. Thanks Alexis for fixing this.
ReplyDeleteHi Anon at 6:37 PM: Thank you for letting me know. I know the bookmark links have been around since I started. But they could be a problem. Do you experience trouble on the right side with the "subscribe" section too? Or is it just "bookmarks" and below? Thanks again! :)
ReplyDeleteAlexis: Bookmarks and below.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anon at 7:05 PM! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it is just me but I have had repeated attack attempts that have been circumvented by my antivirus software for about the last month. It is causing my mouse to freeze up and thus my whole computer stops working and I have to shut down my computer by turning the power completely off (it is stuck so each program cannot be properly shut down) and I have to re-boot. It is a serious PITA. I googled the attack name called a "portscan"--any chance there is ANY relation?? Thought this would be the time to ask. Anyone familiar with this? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLet me add-that I am having slow right hand side load with regard to this blog. Thanks Alexis!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you guys know that the B&M I visited today also had 20% off women's sweaters (although I had to ask; there were no signs promoting this).
ReplyDeleteI was told it applied to all full-price and promo sweaters (not "sale", ending in .99). Also, "sweaters" have a sleeve (I wanted a sweater shell and they said no).
It was nice that it was in stores; if you have one near you, you can avoid shipping. But doesn't anyone else think it's weird to have a sale and not promote it with signage?? What's the point?
Alexis: The site is faster this am thank-you very much for fixing this. Now if I can only remember my password for my identity.
ReplyDeletecasual crew
Casual Crew: I am happy to hear the site is working faster. :) (I tinkered with the template's html a bit.) Quick question: does the right sidebar still take time to load? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteAlexis: The sidebar took long time this morning 6:00 then it improved awhile later. It is working fine now. Thanks.
ReplyDeletecasual crew
Alexis, sorry I didn't respond back yesterday but just wanted to let you know that the site is working super fast for me today as well! The sidebars included. Thanks so much for taking the time to fix this! :) Anon@6:07
ReplyDeleteCasual Crew & Anon@6:07: Thanks for getting back to me about the loading issue. I made the changes around 8AM. So that would explain why they were a bit slow around 6AM.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to hear the site is working faster. Otherwise, I was going to make a few more changes (in hopes to improve loading time).
Thank you so much again! :)
