J.Crew Email: Reminder About Additonal 20% Off

J.Crew sent an email to remind us that today is the last day they are offering an additional 20% off sale merchandise online with promo code EXTRA20.

From the comments (in different posts) it sounds like the Aficionadas and Aficionados are either {1} buying up a lot (especially since prices on relatively new arrivals are falling and the items are not "final sale") or {2} holding out until December or January (post-holidays for the major sales).

Sidenote: J.Crew's stock fell below $10 a share. (It is $9.05 as I type this.) This is extremely disappointing news for investors. According to J.Crew's press release on their website (click here for link to "Investors Relations"), they are having a conference call 11/25/08 to review "third quarter fiscal 2008 financial results." It will be interesting to hear what top executives say about J.Crew's current financial situation and the projected outlook for the following quarter.

Are you taking advantage of the additional percent off? Are you planning to wait longer until there are better deals? Are you doing something else (e.g. not shopping for awhile to save money, shopping at other retailers)? :)

  1. I did break down and order the dream
bow neck cardigan since it was reduced and then 20% off....as well as the Paris striped scarf, which I
liked, but would not have paid full price for....but I do intend to wait it out - I think the closer we get to Christmas, EVERYONE will be having markdowns, even J. Crew!

  2. Alexis, once again thanks so much for all the work you do to maintain this site. I used the extra20 code to finish off some Christmas gifts. Shopping at work, and being finished in ten minutes without dealing with crowds and line up is great.

  3. Anon at 9:24AM: Congrats on the cardigan and scarf! (That scarf is gorgeous!!!) :)

JCrew Guy In Canada: Your friends and family are so lucky to have you! (I would love it if all my friends and family got me gifts from J.Crew!) :)

  4. I am going to wait it out. I went to the BM store this w/end, not a whole lot in the sale section anyways. Ann Taylor Loft & Banana having more serious sales that drew me in.

  5. I picked up the tartine cardi in buttercup.. I've been wanting something mustardy yellow for so long and finally pulled the trigger!

BTW - I went to the outlets yesterday and my Jcrew had so much stuff! I picked up a silk cream eliza blouse, regal purple joelle blouse, a headband, a mustard yellow rib tank with detailing and a headband for around $50 with the extra 30-40% off. they also had 50% off jackie cardis, 30 or 40% off argyle, and tons of elizabeth halters. I tried on the yellow and cream and decided they were too billowy for me.

  6. I'm going to wait...I don't buy gifts at J.Crew, and I need to NOT shop for myself, so I will hold out for the after Christmas sales. :)

  7. I wish that everyone would buy me J Crew for Christmas, but alas I am on my own when it comes to picking/buying my clothing. LOL. I do hope that they add more items to the sale section so that I can finish up buying for my sister, husband, and mother. :) Since I am nowhere near a B&M better incentives online make me more likely to purchase J Crew for gift giving. :)

  8. Sounds like there may be a great promotion starting tomorrow.......send a certain amount, get a percent off.....as much as 30% off if you spend 250 online. Yeah!

How bright is the buttercup tartine. I would like to order this, but can't wear a bright yellow. It looks pretty subdued online.

  11. Has anyone been to the factory stores lately? If so, what are the clearance items (which will be 50% off on Black Friday)? Thanks!

How quickly do items tend to go at these events? I am wondering how much stock they will have in, as it is supposed to be so busy!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well, I already purchased some items on Saturday. I actually had order everything off the "just ask" counter since nothing I was looking for was at the store. The associate told me that the 20% was only for sale items & proceeded to only apply to one item on my list. Luckily, I called customer service to have it fixed. Pretty annoying experience.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm not buying a single thing until after this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't live near a B&M but my who we are visiting for Thanksgiving does sooo I will be visiting on black friday. I've been holding out for it!! Just really hoping there will be some promos going on like % off sale. I called the store and they said they weren't aware of any promos; just regular mark downs but I know that can change.

  15. i've been eyeing the black peacoat for awhile now. i don't think i'll be able to get it in my size if i wait a little longer. so i got it for $140 which is a pretty good deal with the extra 20% off. the shipping fees suck though and i couldn't combine the free shipping code i got in my catalogue

    ReplyDelete
  16. Lol, I mean my *family* we we are visiting live near one.

Also, I am planning on visiting the factory store in Vacaville, CA - possibly at the insane early morning time when clearance is 50% off. Though after reading the factory store post last week I don't know that I would bother except that I have some stuff to return anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I do not go shopping the weekend after Thanksgiving...nothing (including a great deal) is worth dealing with all the crowds...plus, there are good deals all year long if you really know how to shop and look for them.

Online is the only way to go for me anymore! Saves time, money and gas in my book even if the prices are a bit higher...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Too bad for JCrew and their stock prices but they brought on some of this themselves...they alienated A LOT and I mean A LOT of people this summer with their website fiasco. I am not going to buy from them this Christmas b/c I don't want to deal with any possible hassels...not worth it...

    ReplyDelete
  19. BIG question here regarding that promo listed on j crew aholics with the percentage off scale...do you think this is off of FULL PRICE TOO?? I know there are no details (small print)provided on the coupon but it doesn't say "off of sale" either. What do yall think?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Just so you guys know, I'm an associate, and if you're waiting for 50% off of sale I'm not sure that's going to happen except for on rare occasion or through miscommunication between corporate and the stores because 50% off sale is the associate discount.

*However, my main point is: I heard through the grapevine that this holiday season they're trying not to do as much final sale with the extra percent off (because the extra percent makes it final sale), because many of the sale items will be given as gifts and cannot be returned. Therefore, they have greatly reduced the prices of the items on sale in the first place so as to render the need for an extra percentage off useless. Hope that helps. I know it might not make everyone happy though...

    ReplyDelete
  21. anon @ 9:37 - how much did the elizabeths cost??

    ReplyDelete
  22. Covert5, I bet this % off offer is for all items sale or regular price.

    ReplyDelete
  23. anon @ 11:00: Thanks so much for chiming in. An associate's point of view (popular or not) is ALWAYS appreciated! :)

leaderboys: I have the Buttercup Tartine and it is very subdued. I put it more along the lines of the Honey Glaze. Very pretty! :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I took advantage of the extra 20% off sale in the store. I also bought some stuff online but it makes me mad how much they charge for shipping. JCrew is so far behind other retailers. I really want to buy the butterfly ring but I can't justify paying $25 for shipping for something that weighs only an ounce or two. How ridiculous!

With 20% off, plus 15% student discount, plus 10% with the discount they gave me for sharing my e-mail, I got alot of good deals... but the straight 20% off isn't really worth it when some things are still very close to their original price.

I got a ton of the bangles to give as gifts... the 1/4" ones ended up only being $3.39 (were $20). Not too shabby.

Also got tons of stuff for my brother.. The men's sales always seem to be so much better!

  25. Alexis, how about a holiday theme background for the blog for the next month?

thanks for posting the info about the fs sale percentage.

i miss the days when you automatically got 20% off and could use free shipping codes....

ot but i am wondering about getting a ps @jc, does anyone find this helpful? and how do you get one?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I did some major orders recently with the free shipping and the 20% sale. Mostly this was due to it not being final sale - (I like to purchase clothing for my brothers for xmas but only will do so if its returnable) and also the great prices on some items I really wanted. But now I will wait and hold out for some deep discounts.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I ordered the Olivia sweater and a few things for dh. I'm still waiting for my shoe sale order too. I can't take anymore discounts! My Fun money account is dry as a bone lol

  30. I placed an order on Friday morning and then again on Sat. night. Those tartine cardigans will make great gifts for the price...I also got the sketchbook roses skirt, Jacinda in honey glaze, a couple of dream sweaters, and a few tanks and few hidden sale items from spring/summer that I found. Now, I am DONE shopping for a LONG time. Plus, I bought every single item I want except one new arrival. There is only one item I like and it will have to go on sale or wait for my January rewards card which will be at least $100--125.

Revolve clothing has 25% off with the code: NOTCOTLOVESREVOLVE
They have a ton of sale items and the code is good on them as well. Also, free ship. I picked up a $400 pair of shoes last night for $140 :D

Shopbop also has a code: THANKS2U
    Spend $250 get $50 off
    $500 get $100 off
    and on up

FashionChateau: 20% store wide code: Chateau20. Free ship on orders over $100

  33. According to the other blog, there's a tiered code starting tomorrow: TURKEY. You get 20% off for spending $150 and 30% off for spending $250. Not just already marked down stuff. So if you were planning on spending $250+ you should wait for the better discount.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Lands End has a free shipping no minimum code; they are also offering a Santa Pick everyday starting today. One item that is reduced to sell! I think this is a great idea. Today it is a monogram type boat and tote bag.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes, I placed two orders this weekend both totaling over $250 but almost every item except 2 are now sold out so glad I ordered when I did with the 20% off...but otherwise, I agree to wait until the new TURKEY code goes into effect soon....

    ReplyDelete
  36. alexis- how does the other blog get codes before you? seems like your blog is a bit behind the times...maybe if you make nice with her, she'll share some insider secrets w/you?

    ReplyDelete
  37. For the codes already being posted on Aholics: Leigh's PS probably *sneaks* them to her, and I doubt that's legal.

As for playing nice: Alexis has always been nice to Leigh. Leigh is the one who has the issue with this blog since it's much more popular than her blog is. I think she's behind all the nasty and rude comments that have happened on here the past month or so, too. She wants to drive people away from Aficionada and over to her blog. Really childish, IMO.

  41. Anon @ 11:00: I really appreciate news from JCrew associates, even if it's bad ones ;)

I promised myself not to buy anything but I ended up buying a cashmere sweater and a pair of shoes. I got encouraged by Marietta in another post to go to Ann Taylor and check out their cashmere so no more JCrew for me until after holidays! (unless I get a gift card in which case I know I'll have the urge to use it right away)

P.S. LOVE their scarves (Mohair, Shimmer metallic scarf, Paris stripe, cashmere...they are my biggest temptation whether they're on sale or not)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm confident we're going to get many more codes and offers...all other stores are doing it, and j.crew can't afford to be left behind. I've bought far more lately from BR because of their offers than I have from J.Crew.

Let's see what happens after Thursday, for starters. Gobble, gobble.

P.s, I agree, this is by far the nicer J.Crew blog. But Alexis, I also really, really would love a cheerful holiday theme on here :-) Just a suggestion...

  43. I went to the B&M store yesterday and scored the mod herringbone mini for $24. It was originally $98, marked down to $30, and then all sale items were an extra 20% off. On Friday, I ordered the sherpa hoodie and I am so tempted to get the Lille coat now since it is down to $142 with the extra 20% off. I just hate paying for shipping costs. :(

    ReplyDelete
  44. FFM: I am heading to Loheman's this afternoon to see what they are offering when it comes to bags (I might just have a little peak at LV store to check out their Vernis bags-if they currently carry red ones that is)

    ReplyDelete

  52. Can I suggest people stop comparing blogs? Each one is what it is and we can learn from both. Alexis doesn't need to befriend Leigh if she doesn't want to..we can just stop by there and get codes and other advice just as we do this blog. Who cares how Leigh gets her info--we get to reap the benefits.
It's up to Alexis when and how she decides to change her blog and if she wants to make it festive etc. This is a very time-consuming undertaking and I am sure she will do what she sees fit when she has the time.

Let's keep it positive. There haven't been as many rants here (myself included-trust me I know what I am guilty of) and it's refreshing. There's lots of help being handed out to everyone and it is wonderful to read!
It's now getting nasty over there because a Aficionada has a beef going with Leigh and it's all rather immature. Anon 12:50--what you are stating sounds like a "childish" assumption to make. Leave the negative out and move on.

  53. I caved and ended up placing 3 orders over the weekend (the 20% off made me do it!). I keep inventory lists so I don't miss out on anything I'm in love with and ended up buying everything on my lists that was getting low...and then the next day thought 'maybe I should get this stuff too, it's sort of getting low' and then the next day repeated...I'm kicking myself for the triple shipping fees, but I ended up saving way more with the 20%, so at least that's good. I hate when I just miss out on an item that I like enough to keep track of, so I don't feel bad ordering before the tiered deal comes out tomorrow (or whenever). But if that deal applies to full price items, I might splurge on one or two new things. I think it'll depend on whether I have a place to put anything else!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Do you think J. Crew will ever get their website back up to snuff? I am tired of clicking on "see more colors" and there AREN'T any. And when I am shuffling things in my bag (I always put in everything then whittle it down) I get an error or it brings me up to the front page.

I also have to say that I love all the "enabler alert" comments (with promos of other stores)!!! :) (I will make a post compiling all of them for later today- so thanks to everyone who "enabled".) :)

Anon at 11:00 AM: I echo the earlier statement by JCrewJunkie, SanFranciscoCA, and others, that we always appreciate hearing from employees. Thanks for sharing! :)

Auntie Clause: First, loving the screenname. :) Second, I will look for a holiday theme background or image for the banner. I have been looking to change it for awhile now. I will look some more to find one that works. :)

FFM: Congrats on the Juliet Safari heels!!! They are so beautiful! :)

  58. I know someone has posted about the pembridge-dot dress, but I cannot find the post. Anyway, I am considering buying it for a holiday party, but I am concerned about the fit. Is it snug? I am debating between the 0 and 2. Also, I am considering the ivory, but am somewhat pale. I am concerned it may wash me out. Any insight would be helpful.

  59. Review time!

Bouclé tweed short scarf coat (10292) - OMG, I am LOVE... with a coat! The color is to die for (exactly the same as the "floppy flower" Astrid), the classic A-line fit is flattering and TTS, and the scarf collar is adorable - I am absolutely obsessed with scarves, and it's nice to have one actually attached to the coat! It looks best with the scarf wrapped around but can also be tied in front of the coat. The combination of the color (my personal "power color"), cut, fit, and fabric makes it a keeper for me.

Maggie double-serge jacket (93322) - I pounced on this as soon as it became available in the heather nickel, which I was obsessed with. It is GORGEOUS, the cut is so flattering, and the standing collar is not as noticeable as I thought it would be, which was a plus. I got my normal size (2), but found it to be a bit tight in the shoulders, but kind of loose in the bust. I will try the 4 (although I hate to wait a week for it to arrive!).

Printed calf-hair heels (98563) - another winner! I went up a half size and found them to be a bit more comfortable in the toe box than the JC shoes in my usual size. They are so cute, and the trim/heel is not as bright yellow as it looks on the website. Plus, with the 25% shoe discount and my student discount they came to aboout $150. I wouldn't have purchased at $328, or $250.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Joanna- I tried on the peacoat in a regular XS and it was huge on me. I'm 5'4" 112. So I think a small would be very big on you

    ReplyDelete
  61. Glad to hear the scarf coat is nice but I bought a hot pink swing coat last year in the U.K. so won't buy another at $350--a bit steep for me...

  62. I did not buy from the additional 20% off b/c it just basically covered shipping....I am just an old school person who shopped for many years where you could get free shipping and 20% off so I am shopping are online stores that off that as well as free returns...I can get very nice items for MUCH less elsewhere.

I just don't spend like I used to at JCRew. I am still put off by their website issues.

  63. FFM, I just bought the sharkskin skirt in the silver colour and was hoping to wear it to a work party with "cocktail attire" as the dress code. I wasn't in the mood to buy a dress this year and thought at least with separates I would get more wear out of my clothes. I was wondering if you could help with any outfit ideas? I love your suggestions and would really value any help you could pass my way!

Also, has anybody else seen the sharkskin skirt in silver IRL? How shiny is it? Can you tone it down for work?

    Thanks!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. This is a bit OT but If I purchased a few things on sale/promotion this weekend can I go back in and get a price adjustment using my student discount? I'm sure this topic has been discussed ad nauseam, but any help is greatly appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anon 2:38 - highly doubtful, especially since you used the EXTRA20 code, they don't allow you to "double discount" even though the student/teacher discount is supposedly a policy, it only seems to apply whenever CS feels like it. Makes it more worthwhile to shop in the stores, but alas - most of the purchases I make are catalog/.com only. Kind of a catch - you're not getting a *great* deal either way.

    ReplyDelete
  66. a: I've seen the silver sharskin skirt in person and it is not shiny but definitely bright and there is a sheen to it. It's definitely pretty though.

What I find interesting is that silver jewelry is more subdued than gold, but it seems like in metallics for clothing, it's the exact opposite. :) Just my thought, anyway! Maybe because the gold generally has warm yellow undertones? I'm not sure, really.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks Anon@2:38 for mentioning this. Silver Lining - If I purchased my sale and promotional items in the store this weekend, am I also out of luck for getting a student discount price adjustment? Thanks!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Anon 2:52 - they didn't give you the discount at the store when you purchased? From the other student and teacher Aficionadas here, it sounds like some stores honor both and some don't. It's worth a try.

    ReplyDelete
  69. i succumbed and got the swiss dot annette blouse in gold (that i wanted in the summer but couldn't find my size at the b&m), the Cambridge cable crewneck cardigan in light spearmint (yay! finally a sweater in that color!), and the merino rose cardigan in snow.

i wanted the taffeta a-line skirt, but decided to hold off and maybe the price will go down more.

  70. Backorder question: are they dates usually pretty accurate? I was thinking of ordering the Dream Soho dress but it is on backorder until 12/29.

  71. Comment from another associate here (as an aside, this blog is THE BEST monitor of what J. Crew loyal clients are saying. I pass this feedback on each time I work. So THANKS from us in the Crew world as well.)

    Two things:
    1. The other associate who posted about additional percent off (final sale) is probably correct. It was difficult this weekend while people were shopping sale for gifts and then having to opt out of the additional discount in order to return.

    2. Women's cashmere cardigan is a Secret Sale right now for $99! (Should be current through at least Wednesday, I believe.)

    ReplyDelete
  72. sooner_girl: My store has the Soho dress in black - currently $89.99, and an additional 20% off. I know for sure there was a medium... there were a couple more on the rack, but I didn't look at the sizes since the first one I picked up was the size I needed. Phone number is 248-449-6690.

I got one at a great price, but it's a strong orange, and so far it only works with dark denim. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  81. What about charcoal/grey for the metallic clea? I'd stay away from black and orange because if the jacket is orange, you don't want to look like a halloween treat :-)

  85. I'll bet anyone a zillion dollars (yes, a zillion) that there will be DEEPER discounts at JCrew before XMas, including more %off sale-item sales. I think they tell their associates that they won't be doing this just to get people to buy more stuff now. The you-know-what is hitting the proverbial fan now, and we shoppers will TRIUMPH! Yahoo!! Sorry, Mickey!

    ReplyDelete
  86. anon re Clea,
I think J.crew has a color called dark cloud that might look good with it, but I don't recall seeing the clea, so it's hard for me to picture that particular orange.

Do you remember what it was shown with in the catalogue or on-line?

Hey, you know what, you should call and ask one of those "gift gurus"!!! See what they would have to say .... You wouldn't be obligated to buy if you didn't like their suggestions, but at leasat you'd get some ideas. Plus it sounds like it would be a good test for them :-) Then please report back here what you hear :-)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Auntie Claus-re Clea-

If you type J Crew herringbone Clea into google and click on the top J Crew link you can see the product page. Online it looks more red, but it's really orange with a red undertone. The orange is blended with a creamy color so it is softened somewhat. It's really pretty and cheerful, but the color is strong.

  88. Anon @ 4:34pm. I've spent too much at J Crew this month and starting immediately, I won't be spending anymore. I don't know how secure my job is anymore. I just found out that our staff Christmas party has been cancelled due to economic reasons. Sad really! So the Merino Sequin Chiffon Shell plus the coordinating silk Tafetta skirt I purchased on the weekend plus shoes to match will not be used since I have no party to go to. I'm really bummed out.

  90. I really want the herringbone clea (redish orange color one). I thought it might go on sale more than 99.99 so I waited to buy it and now its gone! =( Hopefully they will bring it back again.

Anon + others - Does it feel warm?

I am from Michigan and I need it to be warm enough to walk a few blocks with -- seems to bulky to wear under another coat?

  91. anon 4:45 - Shoppers will not win because DEFLATION is happening and it is the worse thing that can happen for our economy. Mark my words the inventory levels will be very low come Spring.

anon 4:55 - Take the stuff back and get a refund.

I think I have spent about $600 since 1st of Nov. I would not have spent this much had it not been my birthday and for the extra 50% FS that my B&Ms had the first week of Nov. I will not be purchasing anything from J Crew until after Christmas except the double serge skirt when/ if it goes on sale. I would say that I spend around $200 a month at JCrew so this month was a little extreme for me.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your job. I wish you the best of luck!

I hope this doesn't sound insensitive, but I was wondering what color shell and skirt you got? I'm looking for ideas (wedding to attend on Dec 27). Thanks!

  94. Christina G-

I'm the one trying to work on outfit ideas for the metallic herringbone (reddish orange) Clea.

The fabric is delish! It is thick and textured and weighty. I live in Northern California by the water, and it is great for a night out in the low 60's. In the 50's I would need a sweater under it and a scarf. With a thick sweater it can look a tad bulky because it is so thick already. A light sweater is best.

Auntie Claus-I put the jacket next to a pair of cement cords that are going back (too big-must exchange) and it looked great! Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Also Christina G- I would watch ebay for that Clea. I saw a sz 4 that was pulled due to low bids a couple weeks ago-it may come back. Don't know your sz though. Good Luck!

  96. Anony @ 5:04: so should we buy up the old summer merchandise now while it's marked down instead of waiting for spring?

  97. Deflation is extremely frightening, that is for sure.

  98. AnonyClea - great, glad to hear it :-)

  99. Not sure if this has already been posted under another topic but just in case:
Here is link for BR Factory stores that shows that they are doing 40% for Black Friday.
    Happy Shopping!

  100. auntie claus-sorry, it was not meant to single you out. Others made mention of Alexis "making up" with Leigh so she could get more inside scoop, codes etc. and some other snarly stuff. I mentioned the holiday theme because you mentioned it twice (like it was dire) and the second time was after saying,"I like this blog better BUT could you change your theme." I know Leigh has changed her site to a holiday theme..well, you get the picture;)

  102. Has anyone ever used shopstyle.com to search for j.crew? I just spent too much time on there and it was cool b/c it tells you what items they have in which sizes/colors. I did have a few that they showed and then when linked to j.crew's actual site were sold out but those were super discounted from last summer.

Just thought my fellow aficionadas might want to know about this! Just go to shopstyle.com and scroll down to favorite brands and click J.Crew. They even have a wish list feature and sale alerts. (no, I don't work for this site, lol)

  103. FFM: I got the same shoes that you did....aren't they fabulous!! Will you ever be wearing yours with jeans? Just wondering. :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. I've only spent about $25 (net) at J. Crew and with the exception of possibly another headband, I think that's all I will be spending this month. I had an $85 credit for a jacket I returned, then bought a pair of wellies ($20), three sale headbands ($20), a silk blouse ($30), a cotton tank ($10), and a pima cotton sweater ($20). I think that's it.

At Martin and Osa, OTOH, I did buy four cashmere blend sweaters and two camis, but with the 30% off sweaters promo, plus the 30% off code, plus free shipping, they were great deals!)

  105. I hate to be a downer once again, but I received my most recent J.Crew order just now and my snow leopard print cardigan is missing!!
I've just sent a strong/ frustrated email to J. Crew CS ... this is like the third order in a row that has been screwed up in some way (if not cancelled!) and I just had to vent ... but I know I'm preaching to the chior at this point!! grrrr

    ReplyDelete
  106. lindsey b: Sorry to hear about your messed up orders, just curious how many items did you order at one time more than 3? Just wondering if the larger the order the greater the likelihood that it will get screwed up.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I finally caved... and am looking forward to receiving my longsleeve scoopneck tee in stone, foldover yoga pant in slate, french-terry yoga shawl pullover in antique purple, striped dreamy cotton lounge pants and chocolate bikini (I've been wearing Jcrew Swimwear since 1993 and they are indesctructible!) I think I got a great deal on these items.
Would have loved an heirloom henley sweater in green at a great price, but that would be unrealistic... oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  108. i've ordered two items and only one actually showed up. i don't think two items is too many to keep track of in the order.

  109. smarty: I purchased the Merino Sequin Chiffon Shell to wear with the Silk Dupioni Skirt. The shell is in Putty. The Skirt is in Champagne. I also purchased the Gabrielle crystal starburst peep-toe heels in Champagne to match. I ordered all these online and they are being shipped as I write. I guess I could return them all but what a waste of time and money (I have to pay for shipping back since I am in Canada). Sigh!

  110. sooner_girl: I think it runs pretty tts. I needed a medium in the Dream Silvie dress (if you've tried that one on) and generally take a 10 or medium in anything straight-fitting on the bottom.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Alexis: I have the yoga top that you ordered, when I wear it I receive many compliments, it even looks good with jeans. I held off from ordering the yoga pants though, good price but I cannot shop anymore for awhile.

  112. Danielle -

I think you asked about the Pembridge dot. I have it and reviewed it a few days ago.

Sounds like we have completely different body types as I am a 12 thanks to just having had a baby! LOL.

Anyway - The Pembridge dot is not snug - I thought it would be like a pencil skirt on the bottom - but it's more like a shift dress. It ran very TTS for me. So I wouldn't size up at all. I have it in Key Lime which is very bright - probably not the color for everyone - but I am kind of olive so it works. I think the ivory is beautiful - as is the black. I adore my dress and would highly recommend it - especially with the extra discounts.

  113. anon @ 6:37: I did order 5 items... which is a lot for me ... I'm just so disappointed. I haven't heard back from JC yet, but I doubt there are any of the cardigan left at this point :( boo.
I wouldn't be so harsh, but this is NOT the first screw up within the last month! (and I've only placed 3 orders!)

    ReplyDelete
  114. lindsey: I would call CS and ask to speak to a Supervisor. I had a lot of trouble with J Crew like others this past summer, they messed me up 4 x in 1 month, since a Supervisor looked into my orders and straightened things out I have not had a problem since, and I have ordered lots sale and fp items, large and small orders.

    ReplyDelete
  115. BTW There is a very interesting comment about this blog and its posters on the other site made by a J Crew employee. Worth reading.

    ReplyDelete
  116. That's just the blog owner herself posting under a different name. Not worth paying attention to at all.

  117. The only thing I purchased on sale was a thermal henley although those Waxed-canvas duck boots are tempting. I'm waiting for the oilcloth field jacket and two pocket flannel shirt to go on sale.

I want to thank you for your hard work and energy maintaining this blog.

    All the Best!

  118. seriously, grow up everyone. 2 people have the same blog. it's not an 8th or 9th wonder of the world. what's the big deal? i'm writing this on the other blog to show my un-biasness.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I don't you'll have to wait long for the prices to deflate.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Having read both blogs, the only one with a bias is leigh. Alexis allows references to the other blog on here, leigh deletes any posts that bring up this blog, or anything that doesn't feed leigh's ego.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Much as I love a good bargain, yeah, seeing prices drop all over the place is actually very, very scary for the long-term economic good (of the country and world, not j.crew).

    ReplyDelete
  122. Alexis,

Don't listen to these people, your blog looks fine just the way it is. No need to waste your time on a holiday theme for just a few weeks. I'm sure you have better things to do.

    ReplyDelete
  123. anon 7:52 I suggest that you take you own advice.

  124. I wish there wasn't such a difference between prices in stores and on-line. My store doesn't carry anything but the basics, but I hate ordering something on-line now knowing I'm probably getting ripped off, like with that mod skirt somebody got in a store for $20 or something like that.

  126. Just wanted to say thanks, Alexis! I am a new Aficionada-- Ive admired JCrew for years, but as my style has started to mature (and Ive started making more money), I have come to be an even bigger fan of JCrew. This community is a great place--thanks for everyone who shares info on fit, sales, styles, and everything else!

  128. OT, but does anyone know if the stores are running any promos on the tissue turtlenecks? i feel like someone mentioned them? like i remember they'd do 2 for 50 or something? thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  129. suilove - my store westfarms in farmington, ct was offering a promo on tissue t-necks this past weekend - $29.50. i picked up one myself. not sure if it's still going on, but i feel like that promo's been in the store for a few weeks at least.

    ReplyDelete
  130. starla729,

GREAT thanks, i'll definitely have to check out my local store for those. 50$ for 2 with my student discount is an awesome deal. thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I have taken advantage of the recent sale to stock up on the basiscs (cardigans and other sweaters) and sprung for the Lille Coat in black. The coat just arrived today and I must say that I love it. It runs a bit big, but I sized down and it fits perfectly. The one thing that I didn't realize is that even though you can't see the tie in the back of the jacket, it's sewn into the jacket so you can cinch up the waist.

Alexis, thanks so much for keeping up this blog! As a fellow fashion blogger (J.Crew, Anthropologie, etc.), I know how much work it is. Like other posters, I agree that there is room for more than one blog on a similar topic because everyone offers a different perspective. Keep up the great work, I love the conversations here!

  132. I am sooooo bummed. Just got an email that the metallic clea in black I ordered was cancelled. I know this is a long shot but if anyone sees it in a size 0 in their store, please let me know (kmtaing@yahoo.com)

    ReplyDelete
  133. no prob suilove. i'm sure you'll be able to grab some at that deal, and even better with the student discount. your local store is northshore right? i'm actually headed that way for the holiday weekend. i was impressed by the selection you said your store had, i may have to stop by this weekend if i can sneak away from the relatives. haha.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Lindsey B - I feel your frustration. In three recent orders, two items on different orders have been cancelled (one being the black metallic Clea). I held off on buying the Penny b/c I thought the Clea was on its way. On a different order, they finally shipped the wavy glass beaded necklace that I ordered twice before and were cancelled. Open the box and it was the necklace... in a different color =(

  135. casual crew: Thanks for the support! I 100% plan on calling and asking for a supervisor if I don't get some sort-of amazing, wonderful email response tonight making me a happy customer. It wouldn't be such a big deal if they still had the item. I'm still pouting about it ;)

    ReplyDelete
  136. starla729,

i usually do northshore, copley and maybe cambridgeside galleria or chestnut hill...but in terms of sale stuff, northstore is definitely the best. they've been running 50% off from the start and their SAs are seriously SO great. i'm not too sure if the sale section is as full as it was the last time i was there, but i'm heading over tomorrow to check it out again while i do some returns and ask if they know what they'll be running for the weekend. i'll write you if i find out anything interesting;)

    ReplyDelete
  137. The SA mentioned that starting tomorrow it's 30% off at the store.

    ReplyDelete
  138. thanks suilove, that would be awesome! :)

  139. i'm not looking for anything in particular, just some really good deals :)
