Dear FFM: Help Put Together A J.Crew Outfit For Me

FabulousFloridaMommy (FFM) regularly guest blogs on outfits she creates with items that you, the members, request. :)
FFM has done it yet again! A big "thank you!" to FFM, who has created a fabulous outfit for numerous requests on styling J.Crew's "new arrivals" in the "Dear FFM: Help Put Together A J.Crew Outfit For Me" post!

To view the wonderful sets, click on the links below. (The name of the link relates to the request for an outfit.)
Are there any items from J.Crew (that you either own or are thinking about getting) that you would like FFM to create outfit ideas. Feel free to include additional info like: the climate/season you want to wear the item/outfit, as well as age bracket/lifestyle. :) After a few days, FFM will select a few items (from the feedback) to create a couple of Polyvore outfits with those items (which will then be posted for all).

What J.Crew pieces do you often wonder how to use in an outfit? What J.Crew items would you like to see an outfit created for (please include item name or item number)? Do you have any J.Crew items in your closet that you are unsure how to style with? Please, let us know! :)

  3. Dear FFM,
Thank you so much for putting together a outfit for a glitter cardigan for me. The look is quite classy. Unfortunately, I didn't get to buy the cardigan. It was sold out.

  4. The code is SWEATERS to get 20% off full priced sweaters. In tiny writing, the promo ends at 11:59PM ET on 11/13.

  7. I really LOVE the outfit that Alexis chose to feature in the post, with the sketchbook rose. I don't own the skirt but this is making me think I should now. ;) Great job, FFM!

  9. OT: wow, so many styles of bag on sale right now! During the 30% off they only had 2...

Also, sweaters on sale! Does the 20% apply to promotional prices? I got Lea Cardigan for $69.50 just recently in a store.

  10. P.S. I checked out FFM's sets way before they were posted on this blog-I check her blog every day :)

FFM: love the katie sweater jacket with camel tissue turtleneck combination-thank you!

  11. For FULL PRICED SELECT SWEATERS ONLY>>>> Even though it says ALL women's sweaters the fine print tells the real story. Did not work on a mock check out for a basic cashmere crewneck cardigan:(

    ReplyDelete
  12. Fine print on women's sale sweaters also states that it is not retroactive on previous purchases...whatever, you might get lucky and get a price adjustment on a full priced item purchase a day or so ago that has not shipped:) Good luck:)

  13. Oooh I do especially love the featured look. Cheers FFM!

    ReplyDelete
  14. that is so WRONG. in the big print it DOES say that ALL full priced women's sweaters (even cashmere) are on sale... then the fine print it says select women's full priced sweaters only... how can they get away with that? and how can they not expect the customers to get angry? if the big print said select women's sweaters were on sale, fine, but the huge, screaming, bold, big print says ALL

  15. Relax people, the code is also for the cashmere it works, Geesh some people are so negative.

  17. Anoy@7:54 IT DID NOT WORK ON THE CASHMERE cardigan I want and it is just the basic one.

  19. All - I just noticed that the Owen hobo is on sale. For those of you who were thinking about it, I LOVE mine. It is very chic and pretty much timeless too. To give a fair perspective though, I do wish the gold studs had been on both sides of the bag so that I would not have to think about front or back. However, this is a very minor complaint and this is, I think, a good investment bag. It is lined and much rommier than it appears. If this enables anyone, Enjoy!

  20. FFM: Your looks this time are great. I need help with the green Marcella if you have time this week. I have paired it with the paintbrush floral skirt and a black cardi, but need something a bit more casual to wear as well. TIA!

  21. Look great - would love if you would do a work appropriate for 20-30 year old for the red ecole jacket (that doesn't look like Christmas or 4th of July). Thanks so much and great work!

  22. anon 8:23 I got my cashmere sweaterS with the code it worked for me.

  23. It works for the basic cashmere cardigan TRY AGAIN

  24. FFM, great looks as always. Since everyone is talking about sweaters, I need help with the jewel-button cardigan in camel (item 97202)that I bought on final sale last weekend. I could use advice on both casual and office looks for this sweater. I don't know what kinds/colors of tops to put under it. Thanks!

  25. Hi FFM:

I bought both the Annette blouse in gold and the olive polka-dot pencil skirt. CAn you help me figure out what to do with them?

    thanks!!

  27. Ffm: I wasn't sure about the skirt, but in person I just couldn't say no! I really like it.

I second the request on the red herringbone ecole...how to wear it without looking like Xmas? I caved in when it went onsake plus the extra discount! Thanks!

  28. Wish the sketchbook skirt had worked for me, but it fit a bit weird around my waist and pouffed out strangely, so even with the extra 50% this past weekend, I passed.

Also, check the comments in Alexis' post about the sweater sale. Most sweaters people are trying are working with the code, but it may not display in certain windows (typical). Cashmere Heirloom Henley has been on my wish list and I might get using my rewards card and free shipping (I hope) from the red phone.

  29. FFM, thank you so much for posting your stylish sets. I never thought of wearing another bright contrasting colour with the fuschia matchstick cords. I love the turquoise choice and will follow suit with my heirloom henley in bright turquoise.

  30. Hi FFM,

Can you do some sets around the tall Glenbrae boots in Camel (#96602).

I adore these boots and would like to wear them with skirts and dresses, but don't know how.

Could they ever be work appropriate?

    Thanks!

  31. FFM: Your sets look great as usual! :) Would you be able to create an outfit or two with the Cascading Flower Astrid please? Something for a formal work environment. (Yes, i know i'm pushing the envelope a bit with this one. :) ) Thank you!

  32. Hi FFM,

I love all the new sets, esp the ones with the sketchbook skirt! Could you please do a set w/ oranges. I have the lydia and marcella, both in orange. I LOVE the color of both blouses but not sure what to pair them with (and I don't want to wait until summer to wear them). I am looking to wear them with jeans. TIA!

  33. Hello FFM.

I admit, I’m a big fan. In fact, when a dear friend asked for some suggestions selecting outfits I directed her to your site. I was so keen that I clipped photos of several of your past work to an email for her review. We both work in a University environment & find it difficult to present professional & appropriate images at work. Neither one of us has a senior aficianada to model our looks on in our departments. Most of the stores aren't age appropriate so we both buy a lot of JC online. Also, it doesn’t help that many of my students look like they just rolled out of bed & hers look like they’d like to hop into one!
I appreciate looks that are polished & stylish like Navy suit for History Professor, Chiffon Rose Belt for Professional & Maggie Jacket (for more casual days). I have several jcrew skirts, mostly 120’s, herringbone, & pinstripe suiting for work & cords for weekends. There are plenty of the Kelly shirts & Jackie cardigans for work with v-neck tees for the weekend in my closet. Most of my tops are in the blue/ green/ peacock/ purple colour range with a few reds & pinks for days I'm feeling cheery. I have a few coats including a grey plaza from several years back. I’d like to update my outerwear since they’re on sale, but I’m a little hesitant. Could you please help?
I think I might like to add a splash of colour with a dark Poppy Lady Day or a Majestic Purple Madeline. However, I’m having some trouble visualizing it all. I’m a little worried that the Madeline would look like, well Madeline – the schoolgirl. Also, I’m worried that the Dark Poppy is more of an orange red than a true red. Of course, my local B&M doesn’t stock these colours, so I haven’t been able to play with them as I’d like. I may just end up going with safe choices like camel or black,. However, since I’m a blonde, I find that black can be severe & camel can be a bit blah. So I’d like to try something new.

Any & all help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    H:D

  34. heather,

just to answer about the poppy color, it is a true red this season NOT an orange red

  35. Hi again,

Thanks for the heads up re the Dark Poppy. I had read about it on the J Crew Coats: Which One is For You? thread. It's still hard to decide... Mostly because I'm just not very good at picturing it with my existing clothes. Would it look ok with a pale blue Kelly, a brown Jackie or a dark fern / peacock / navy v-neck tee do you think?

It's soooo frustrating that they don't have it in my local B&M. Not that I would be able to walk out the door wearing it anyway. I'm a petite so I always end up using the red phone. It's bothersome because I'm often ordering stuff just to try for fit, colour, etc. Sometimes I splurge by ordering more than one & returning what doesn't work.... An expensive luxury. ***Sigh*** J crew, I love your stuff but sometimes it's a lot of work to get it right. Hpefully FFM can work her magic & help me decide. Usually, I'm happy to blunder about on my own. However, the coats are an investment for me & I don't want to make costly mistakes.
Do you have anything in Dark Poppy or Majestic Purple? Would you recommend either colour over a safe bet like camel?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    H:D

  36. I have the dark poppy Madeline coat in addition to tamer colored coats (the ivory, camel, and black Plaza coats). I love the Madeline coat. The color is fabulous, and the cut and length make it dressy. I wear it in a legal environment and get tons of compliments. And it makes it easy for your friends to find you. :)

  37. To FFM: Would you please put together some ideas for the BLACK Victoria Ruffled Cami? I also have the pink merino cuffed cardigan that I could use ideas for.
    Thank you so much.

    ReplyDelete
  38. heather:d...I love your two choices for coats, but I have to say I am personally very partial to the Madeline. I have tried it on in Black at my B&M, and fell in LOVE with it. :) I am also blonde, and black is actually one of my preferred colors in clothing...I fully intend to purchase it once it gets a big markdown.

As far as the colors in your present wardrobe that you have mentioned, it sounds as if the Majestic Purple is the best fit, as it would coordinate better, although the Gray Plaza Coat will work well with the blue/greens/purples, as well. If you prefer the Poppy Coat, it will pair well with your pinks/reds/browns/blues/blacks. I'll make a set for each coat so you can get a visual of the color schemes for each. :)

  39. Hi Kitchy7,

Thanks for the colour review. I esp. liked your description of how it works in your work environment. I had the "easy to find" experience once in the Magic Kingdom. Hubby & I went to Disneyland during a very chilly Halloween a few years back. Apparently, it was easy for him to find me in the crowds because I had a brightly coloured shawl on most of the time :)
I'm definitely leaning toward the Madeline. I may just accept the expense & buy both the purple & the black to try out.
Here'e hoping the sale is still in effect,

    Heather :D

  40. Hi again,

    YAAAAAAAAAAY!

    Thanks FFM! Really appreciate the suggestions regarding the coats. Absolutely thrilled that you will be planning some suggested sets for me ;}

I'm going to tell my dear friend down in SoCal that she HAS to watch the blog for your suggestions. She's almost as much of a fan as I.

    Thanks again,

    Heather:D

    P.S. Thanks also to my fellow aficionada's for the help in colour comparisons. I find it rather frustrating to call in & get descriptions from JCrew CSA's. I know they're trying to help but "Well, it's more of a red -red" doesn't work for me :}

  41. Hi FFM!

It has been awhile since I have posted, but I am going to a holiday party and am wondering your opinion on the Black Georgia dress with the Houndstooth bow-button cardigan Item #97421. I have the dress, and have been wanting the cardigan, but can't quite picture them together. Thoughts?

  42. Laverte: Here is a set with the dress and cardigan so you can get an idea of what it would look like: Click Here . HTH!
