J.Crew: Now Available for Sale Online :)

This is just a "heads up" that J.Crew is now offering two items online. (Although both items have been discussed on this blog before, neither was available online for purchase at the time.) :)

Item 13845
Regular: $18.00

As mentioned in the ''J.Crew Cashmere Wash {will you get it?}" post, J.Crew and The Laundress have collaborated on an environmentally friendly cashmere wash. The public relations director at The Laundress, was kind enough to share with us the care instructions (which is useful in general):

The Laundress and J.Crew recommends washing cashmere. The following steps outline the hand washing/machine washing directions to clean and care for cashmere.
  • Turn each piece inside out before washing and only wash same colors together – do not mix.
  • Only wash cashmere in cold water & pre-treat soiled or stained areas with a stain remover.
  • For machine washing, protect your cashmere with a mesh bag and wash on the delicate or woolen cycle.
  • When hand washing, soak items in a sink or laundry basin for no more than 30 minutes.
  • To dry, lay sweater flat on a towel and roll to remove excess water – do not wring out. Do not use a dryer or hang dry.
  • After washing, lay sweater flat on a towel and roll to remove excess water – do not wring out. Do not use in a dryer or hang dry.

Item 14731
Regular: $20.00

J.Crew's book "What A Man Should Know" by Max Blagg is now available online. According to the description, "this helpful handbook is meant to infuse a little joie de vivre into the life of every man and take cocktail conversations to a whole new level." To read mini-reviews of the book, click here, here and here.

I think both of these items would make excellent holiday gifts as they are applicable for almost everyone. (I can't believe that Halloween just ended, and I am thinking about the holidays already!) ;)

What are your thoughts on either of these two items? Have you purchased the cashmere wash or the book already? If so, let us know what your first-hand impression of the items are? :)

  1. I actually bought the cashmere wash! I wanted to try it and the shipping from the Laundress was kind of a lot, but I got free shipping for it through J.Crew. That was enough incentive for me. :) It smells really nice! I am looking forward to using it, rather than sending my cashmere out to dry clean.

  2. My machine has a special Woolmark approved cycle and it says to use Dreft. I have used this on my daughters clothes when she was a baby and it is great stuff! It is super gentle yet manages to get out stains well. Dreft is available just about anywhere....I used to get it at Wal-mart and Target.

  3. Melanie: Please report back once you have used the Cashmere Wash...I'm curious to know how it works.

Anon @3:27: ITA about using Dreft...it is fantastic, and so is the Dreft Stain Removal Spray. :)

  5. I admit it, I bought the book. parts of it are funny. Is it worth $20? Would I buy it if it wasn't a J.Crew Book? No to both. But it's good for a coffee table for the J.Crew addicted like me.

  6. Belinda Robertson (www.belindarobertson.com) makes a very high quality cashmere wash that I love and smells great.

She also makes some of the best cashmere in the world...non pilling I might add!

she also repairs and revives cashmere sweaters even if they are not bought from her.

    120 different colors:)

  7. Those two items have been on the website for over a month now. Nothing new there. I bought the book for my boyfriend and we have it on our coffee table.

  8. Bought the book and returned it. It is beautifully printed and nice to look at, but not really worth $20.

  10. So this would eliminate the need to take cashmere to the dry cleaners? Seems worth it. Does it say how many sweaters a bottle would wash?

  11. I have the cashmere/wool wash from The Laundress. I usually wait for a discount code from them (or other sites, like Hayden Harnett) to stock up. It really is worth it to buy more natural products to launder our clothes. The Laundress version has a cedar scent to help deter moths. Warning: if you've never washed your wool or cashmere, there will be a sort of funky odor when the item is wet. It's just what happens when this kind of material gets wet. My items launder beautifully. Dry cleaning really isn't good for clothes or the environment (unless you absolutely have to do it, like for more structured items such as coats).

Also, it seems the instructions are repeated in the last steps. You can go to The Laundress website and see step-by-step instructions, as well as a video on how to wash your wool/cashmere: http://www.thelaundress.com/LaundryTips/cashmere.asp. They have a lot of other great laundering tips, and if something is not listed, you can email them and they'll respond pretty quickly.

  12. Nicole,

The Laundress site gives great eco-friendly tips, as well as a chart on how many washes you get from a variety of their products:

  13. Sorry. The link seems to be cut off. Go to the site, click on Laundry Tips, then Tips to Conserve Energy on the left.
