J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Sooooo... New arrivals... Meh.

I mean there's a few pieces that stand out but, overall, it just feels recycled.

I only put one item in my wish list... Button detail mockneck sweater in herringbone... But I don't really need more sweaters so I'd have to get rid of something I already have if I pull the trigger.

    1. I was excited to see full length lined wool trousers in pretty colors like mulberry. Then I saw that the rise is almost 13 inches. I'm short-waisted as it is and that rise will give me the old man pants-under-nipples look. Is this a thing now? Did I miss the memo about super high waists being back or do y'all think this is just a one off?

    2. I love the fabric for those mulberry trousers, but I can’t wear them either. I’m not short-waisted, in fact I’m on the taller side with an average torso length, but that 13" rise will sit so high that everything else will bulge out underneath. I know they’l be great for some figures, but definitely not mine.

    3. Mary G., very few people can pull off a 13" rise. I can't even wear an 11" or 12" rise. It's not something we can fix with alteration either. I don't know if this trend will ever go away but I stopped buying pants because of it.

    4. Yeahhhh... I'm strictly a 10" or lower gal. And even 10" is questionable. I can't imagine a lot of people can wear super high rises like that. Even if you can, many of us sit at desks all day and I can't imagine a 13" rise would be comfortable!

  2. My latest orders were slooow to ship. My labor day 60% off order finally arrives today. The Point Sur denim jumpsuit was a no go for me - ordered an 8 which is my bottom size and the rise is just a little too long on me - it really draws attention to the stomach area on me and it wasn't flattering. The top was also too large and was gaping but I did love the fit at the waist. Unfortunately, it's not a perfect fit and will be going back. I admired it on others online and I'm glad it isn't final sale.

    1. Sorry it was not a fit for you - I'm a larger size in the shoulders and back than the hips, so the top was good for me.

  3. I like the button detail mockneck too, but I also like the ornate jungle print skirt and top, the pointelle mockneck puffed sleeve sweater, and a few tees/knits. I would consider some of the tops if they weren't so short. Tall tops seem to be decreasing or stagnant whereas there are more tall dresses. The midi skirt trend has been good for tall people but the crop top trend can be a problem. I don't understand the total embrace of high rise pants/jeans. Sometimes tall and petite options appear a few days after new arrivals so I'll have to wait and see.

    1. I also like the ornate jungle print, looking forward to reviews for those items.

  4. I noticed the online styling seems to be a little nicer than it has been. Even if I already have the pieces I want from previous years, it’s nicer to see them put together a little more uniquely than we have been.

  5. I recently made a couple purchases, one from retail and the other from factory.

Vintage straight jean in scattered dot (L4700) in blue, not grey. They are really cute and comfy. They run a bit big, I took the smaller of my two denim sizes. I typically need to size up in high rise pants, but not with these. I paid $24 for these during a recent promo.

Long sleeve everyday cashmere mockneck sweater in neon berry (AD349). Now, the everyday cashmere is not the quality of cashmere J.Crew used to make, but I do like this sweater. It's soft, I love the mockneck and the neon berry is gorg for autumn. It may or may not hold up well for me, as I've had everyday cashmere that have gone both ways. I paid $33 for this with rewards $ I had accumulated, so I'm okay with the gamble.

Factory original schoolboy blazer in camel (AC131). I've always had good luck with factory blazers and really like the cut of the schoolboy blazer. The fabric is thin (40%) wool, but I prefer that. I paid $60.

Factory boiled wool topcoat in camel (AB477). The boiled wool can look shabby, especially with wear, but I like the casual style of this one and the mid-weight of a topcoat. I paid $80.

    HTH!

  6. If you have the Botanical Cheetah print silk button up shirt on your wishlist it’s on Nordstrom’s website for 30% off. It’s still full price(excluded from promo) on Jcrew website.

Another topic, this is a question others have asked - my rewards were $25 & dropped to $5 I emailed customer service but so far no response did anyone who has had this happen find out the cause?

  7. My 60% off labor day sale arrived yesterday all items were winners.
The Point Sur cotton pointelle sweater is fantastic for $20. I got the white one - it's all cotton. It's a little cropped. I went with a small which is right in the body (I'm 6/8 on top) and it has wider sleeves. It's on the shorter side on my 5'8" frame but I am wearing today with 10" rise jeans and it's perfect. Sleeve length is maybe a smidge short but not a deal breaker as I wear a watch, etc. It does seem to shed which I'm noticing on my black jeans but again, for $20 I'm good. hopefully it washes well too.

The ribbed knit sheath dress is also great - went with a medium (usually a 6/8 in dresses) and it hits below my knee. This is almost certainly coming with me to Portugal next month and I'll pair with a denim jacket and white sneakers but it'll also look good with heels. Definitely wouldn't have paid $70 for it which is what the current sale price is but with 60% it's a great staple.
