Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Received the Leopard Topcoat. I wasn’t wowed by the print. From the online photos, I thought its something I would really like, not the case IRL. The wool is not like serge or stadium cloth. It’s blended with poly. Gives it a tad hairy effect.

Can’t say much about the fit, because size 2 was a preorder and size 0 was sold out, and no petite to preorder. The tailoring is well made-collar, cuffs, hidden buttons...But the leopard lining doesn’t impress me, nor do I think it’s a clever choice. Piping is maroonish/fuchsia...uh...no thanks.
    Back it goes.

  2. I actually have to hit up madewell door a return so I might stop by JCrew.

Re madewell: I keep getting the wrong item sent to me (CS is super cool about it tho) but I discovered the item number on the tag matches a different item on the website. So I keep getting the wrong item even tho the number seems right.

  3. We are preparing to move and I need to tackle my guest room closet, aka the JC Archive, which contains blazers, coats and skirts that I haven’t worn since I started working at home… almost 6 years ago! I don’t know if I’ll ever wear some of them again, but seeing what JC has become I don’t know if I can part with them either.

    1. silver_lining: Don't part with the classic stuff. I did when I moved and regret it everyday. Always thought i could repurchase from JCrew or BR, but it has been difficult:(

    2. I understand where you are coming from. I work in the office of a manufacturing facility and still dress up for work but am usually the most dressed up person. Trying to cut my wardrobe back to more business casual and less dresses and skirts but I know I will never find the quality of these items again so it is very hard to let go. I have weeded out as much I am willing to part with at this point in time.

    3. Hi CR DSa and JessF - I hear you! I think at this point I'm just going to part with the stuff that I won't wear again because of fit (after little_lining, everything went back.. just not in the same place! I don't think that my ribcage will ever accommodate a size 2 jacket again) and carefully store the rest. Thanks for your thoughts. : )

    4. A ton of my stuff is in storage. After working with limited items in my current residence, I find the only thing I miss are the shoe choices. I'm in a place again of wanting to change my style. Each time I go thru my things, I want less and less of them. There are some things I want to keep like prints or dresses & pants that fit very well. But a lot of the tops and sweaters I'm ready to let go of.

  4. Does anyone remember Black Friday/cyber Monday deals from years past? I’ve got my eye on some sperry boots and wondered if they would go on sale after thanksgiving. Don’t want to buy now at full price and 2 weeks from now they actually go on sale. Thanks!

    1. Hi liztriden - you can check the archives on the right, but I think that the last couple of years have involved either some kind of tiered promo or 30% off your purchase (with exclusions). I have no idea what to expect from them this year, though. If you don't want to lose out you could always return/rebuy (as much of a pain as that is!).

    2. I'm thinking all historical holiday sale info will be bogus now. There is a new sherif in town and they are changing the rules from the way things have been done in the past.

    3. true,

from what I recall last years BF sale at "reg JC" was sort of chintzy, compared to the other stores who were doing 40/50 and other promos

      Delete
  5. New promo - 40% off “cool-weather essentials.” To be fair, these include glittens, some boots, some sweaters and blazers, some nice wool pants as this year’s puffer. But OTS tops, one-sleeve tops, a white tie-shoulder dress, tollé skirts, backless sideless mules, naked strapping sandals? I would like to invite the Copywriter from Space to dress up in that gear and stand on my terrace in the winds and 24• degree temp forecast for tonight. Just for a few minutes, but long enough to get the idea.

    1. oh, thank you, autocorrect, I am talking about TULLE skirts, STRAPPY sandals.. perhaps, dear Autocorrect, YOU are the reason for the copy-related dissonance?

    2. yes, quite a confusing promo this morning. It did work on a few suiting pieces I wanted to try so I was able to pick up a full suit for less than $150. But...what the heck. And the fact that there are so many summer items languishing in the sale section is a problem.

      Delete
    3. Many of the OTS and cold shoulder monstrosities from recent rollouts can now be found at nordstromrack.com's clear the rack section for less than $10.

    2. Thanks, Ina. It looks like it's pretty shapeless and full in the body without belting. I was wondering if that was the case. Hopefully my store has it for me to try. I think the length will be good for me as I'm tall, but it may be too big in the body.

    2. ITA. Not only is the website soooooo slow sometimes, but since a few days I'm being charged sales tax while I'm shipping to a zip code with 0% sales tax!! Contacted customer service but so far they haven't been able to solve the issue. Needless to say I'm not ordering anything before this is fixed.

  8. I’ll check out the “Cool Weather Essentials,” but since I prefer to give winter gifts WITH sleeves, I’m headed over to LL Bean for a rare 25% off the whole site promo.

  9. Does anyone own the Cameron pants and can comment on how well it held up when worn a few hours or throughout the day? Did it sag? Or retained its shape? How about cleaning, did it still look new after washing?

I’ve always said I’m not a fan of poly, but these fit so well (I’m always a P2, but took a P4).
    Bottoms in poly are ok...

  10. Have a few in store picks ups so I'll stop by. Used new promo to order dreamy cotton pjs. I bought these last year in navy/pink stripe and love them. Ordered navy/white stripe and vintage pjs in cool pink with navy piping. Also ordered Tretorn sneakers in navy. Have them in blush and white and they're great for travel (pack easily) & super comfy for lots of walking.

  11. There is an interesting interview clip w Mickey from the NYT DealBook Conference yesterday. He said one of his few regrets is that he didn’t sell J Crew despite approaching Amazon about it, and also the stalled negotiation w Uniqlo in 2014. He even said Walmart or Target should’ve be interested in buying it!

He concedes that fast fashion is winning and some new online brands as well, such as Allbirds and Outdoor Voices. Of course he’s the Chairman of OV.

  16. I bought the Field Trench coat today in my store. It fit well in the shoulders and arms, good length for me and even though it's generous through the body it looks really smart belted. It is 40% off and I applied a 15% coupon....and when the sales person asked if I was using my JCrew card and I said "no, just my visa. I like fly miles" she told me I could pay off my JCrew card with my visa card. What!? Apparently this is a relatively new feature...so I signed up for a JCrew card and got another 20% off my coat. Bottom line the coat costs....$80.77. Nice! Got double points as well and paid it off using my visa so I got fly miles too. Can't think of how it could get any better than that!

  17. My store in SF has 25% off reg priced merchandise. They should honor the 40% off that’s going on online...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Is there a limit to how much can be returned to JCrew? My local store (all the others are at least 2 hours away) is small and doesn't carry petite sizes or kids, so I've bought about 8 coats online and returned 7. I'm starting to get embarrassed...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Don't be! Even if they don't ask why, volunteer the info that sizing and quality are inconsistent and that you need to purchase multiple items to ensure you get what you want.

      Delete
    2. Agree! SA's know that their stores don't carry everything and that people have to order online. Often, the SA's at my B&M were excited to see returns of stuff they didn't carry in store (I think those things tend to sell quickly once they're out on the floor, too).

      Delete
    3. if there was a limit....I would have reached mine a long time ago. I return more than I keep for sure!

      Delete
  19. Is it still 25% off plus an extra 20% off for card holders in store? That deal makes me think Black Friday could be better than usual.

    ReplyDelete
  20. No visit (must try to go next week for some returns) but I received two "dressy" skirts.
Tiered skirt in polka-dot embroidered tulle Which is a total fail for me. Like I broke into my extremely tall emo child's dress up trunk. A weird unflattering length. With all the tulle ball gown skirts Crew has made, why can't they do one in black? Instead I get this ruffled disaster. Sigh.
Next the tie-waist skirt in faille. Granted I tried it after dinner but the waist does run very small. I ordered my usual 00 and 0 and while I got both to close they were snug. The fabric is lighter weight than I would expect from "faille" which I thought would be a little heavier with the subtle texture, but the fit...nipped at the waist, loose at the hips, ankle length—I feel like Audrey Hepburn. I was wearing a tissue turtleneck when I tried it on and I swear I could have gone anywhere and felt like a million bucks. I am going to try it again and might decide to size up to the 2 so I can eat. This is the type of thing I'd like to see more of. I only wish there was a little bit of elastic in the waist for comfort, since it sits very high on the waist, but IMO this is what makes it so flattering. It would look schlumpy if I wore it lower. I will post on IG later.

I made an in-store purchase I would now like to return (unworn merch, tags still attached) just over 30 days ago, and cannot find the receipt. (lost receipt or a gift? ) I would hope the least you would get would be a in store credit for the amt on tag.
Be nice but don't accept being turned away...I don't think this would happen...but speak to the manager....they can do
      "what ever they want to".

    3. If you have an email-linked account you've shared with the store for making your purchase, they will have a record of it.

    1. As Shopping Celle pointed out above I think since this is a new regime whatever historically used to happen should be thrown out the window. Not saying it will or will not go away but since they changed the way the sale section is structured I have a hunch it might not ever go away and final sale will remain one of the categories. That being said when they see the monstrosity of the cold shoulder, ots, one shoulder and ruffle explosions still in the sale section not selling maybe they finally take it away. Who knows!

  25. Hello has anyone had the issue of weird stuff being added to your shopping bag on the JCrew retail site? I have had this happen to me several times this past week. Most of the stuff added is from the factory store. Kind of drives me insane because I have never shopped/rarely browse factory.
