JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. New items are up (some not all though). Search for item type, not preorder. Tartan flats not online yet so I’m noticing everything isn’t there.

    1. Thanks for posting. Why that pretty star print in 1-shoulder? Such a waste.

    2. Thanks for the link. Kind of depressing if this is supposed to be a holiday rollout?

    3. Agreed Cass. Depressing. I used to spend so much money at JCrew during the holidays . . .

  3. I asked this the other day and the post got lost, if you have these shoes, how do you wear them?
Totally OT, but this is one of those items I loved, had to have, but never wear. The Macalister high heel booties in black, with the crepe heel (not wedge). They're a more casual shoe with a heel, I thought they were very cool, and it's a style I see lots of designers make, year after year. I added red laces to make them more fun but still don't wear them, lol. I guess my favorite look with them is wearing the black plaza skirt, somehow I don't love them with jeans. Anyone have these and love them?

  4. Another OT. Lands End has Friend & Family on. 40% off your order. Good for monogrammed holiday gifts.

    1. Thanks, ruffles. They also have a leopard-print topper coat.

    2. Saw that, silver_lining! Looks cute, report back if you try it.

    3. Thanks for this! I ordered some boots for my Mr. and a black wrap coat for myself for a steal. Ironically i saw some LE items at Nordstrom rack and actually picked them up before I saw the brand. The pieces looked really nice—a tuxedo blouse and pleated skirt.

  5. Why do they keep making these models pose in the most ridiculous ways? I can't take the clothes seriously!

    1. Totally agree! I used to live the way jcrew stock pictures actually helped you see details and provide info on fit. These awful half pictures and odd poses started a year or two ago and that's when all the fit and fabric shenanigans did too

    2. Agreed. You can't even see the clothes!

    3. I also can't stand this. Whenever I am interested in an item that is not modeled properly, I always do a Google image search. Isn't a models job to display the clothing?

    4. Its one of the reasons why I can’t stand Free People...all the crazy posing.

  6. Anyone with a 20% off code to spare? Trying to get brother a birthday gift... thanks! My email is maqsadshop at gmail dot com

  7. The sale section on the website looks HORRENDOUS. Too much text. Can't find the actual price.

    1. It seems as if, in addition to tossing all those Factory items in our faces, the cheesy 'valued at' style is also rearing it's head. I'm guessing the marketers think that since millennials don't want to spend a lot on clothing generally, they need J Crew to appear cheap. Mission accomplished. I doubt it's driving any sales, though.

  8. Midnight Unicorn pajama top. Anyone have this and looking for more ways to style? I got the 2012 neon Tweed pencil skirt off eBay and it's only the second thing I've found that I like with the unicorn top (other is navy silk shorts). I'm bringing it up because I see others still on eBay. I also wore a navy puffer vest over it and stayed warm in the Midwest today. The skirt is a summer release so it probably won't work midwinter!
