J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Slightly OT, but I received the velvet bomber and it is gorgeous. Finally a luxe looking piece! Struggling how to style it though - button ups don't seem to fit a night out look. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks all!

  4. If the new rollout doesn’t have the tartan items you’re looking for, check out Brooks Brothers. Tartan button ups, skirts, very cute dresses, and coats. Nothing OTS! I bought the Tartan Shirtdress and another top. Look very J Crew.

    1. Thanks for the Rec! Do you have sizing advice compared to Jcrew? -lep33shops

      Delete
    2. Yes! Wondering about sizing too. I heart the Brooks Bros tartan brushed cotton twill in gray-multi. Cute rounded collar too!

    3. Gap has plenty of tartan as well.

    4. I am 0P in J Crew and cannot wear any of the BB clothes unless they come in P. I think they run large.

      Delete
    5. My regular S/4 sizes have fit me well at B.B. but if you are between sizes, I would size down. I’ve only made a few purchases there, but I like what Zac Posen has brought to the brand and the quality is 10x better than current J Crew.

  5. Had issues earlier this morning with the site but I think it's working now.

Underwhelmed by the new stuff. Unable to get the men's sweater I like in an XS. But I did see the lamè pleated skirt that might have possibilities for an understated party skirt. Going to mull it over a little.

    1. I ordered a lame skirt from Lands End. Not sure the midi length will work for me but it's not final sale.

      Delete
    2. i saw that one... it's cute... but midi is iffy for me... and with the pleats, i can't get it tailored. :/

      Delete
    3. Oh really? I didn't think of that. Well, mine should be arriving tomorrow. I'll report back. I'm hoping it's a longer length as opposed to right below the knee.

  6. Has anyone seen the "demi fine" jewelry in person? Is it carried in stores? Really like a few pieces, but wish I could see IRL first.

    1. My store had a small display.

      Delete
    2. I'm curious about it too (and side note - demi-fine sounds dumb, quit trying so hard JC!)

      Delete
    3. I know Lori! I thought the name "demi-fine" sounded a little dumb :D. And what is the implication, that the regular jewelry is junk?

      Delete
    4. Vancouver Pacific Centre store also had a small display ...tucked in among some sweaters. tried on the lion face ring. its very tiny.

      Delete
    5. Julie, I think they're trying to say it's in between the costume jewelry and the fine jewelry that they were offering online for a while. I was tempted to order something but I didn't.

    6. Like the food in the grocery labeled as Health Food....what is the rest of the food?

    7. I was interested in the paper clip necklace and just saw it in person. It's just OK. The other jewelry styles looked a lot better than the paper clip one - the color was a richer gold. The little bee necklace was cute and the earrings were good looking. Will definitely wait for a promotion on the demi fine jewelry.

  7. Just looked at the new rollout. Not ONE thing I want! The collection doesn't look holiday or "special" in anyway. I remember in years past the holiday time collection actually feeling celebratory of the season. Disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ME TOO! The holiday stuff is so awkward. For example, the velvet easy pants are cute, but they're cropped - I don't understand the constant cropped pants in winter materials. And I know after sitting down in those they will have "knee" prints in them. Then the velvet skirt is SO short and has a big ruffle - I can't imagine a mid thigh ruffle is going to be flattering. Again, JC - I've loved you all my life and I would really like to shop!

      Delete
    2. I know, that "specialness" is not in the catalog at all. I remember getting the holiday catalog in the past, flipping thru over and over, picking out what purse, sweater, etc, I wanted for Christmas. Sigh.

      Delete
    3. I scrolled through a couple of times to make sure I didn't miss anything. The few things I wanted for myself and gifts I ordered during 25 Hours promo. What's interesting is I know there's more stuff for holiday that's at Brookfield Place because of IG pics; however, the items weren't released today. Guess J Crew is waiting for next holiday rollout in December.

      Delete
    4. do you know if the IG account that has the pics is private? I would love to see them as well. thank you!

      Delete
    5. The Silk-Cotton Voile top is quite pretty, but an odd choice for a November rollout. I hope they do more pieces in that print next spring. (p.s. J.Crew, if you're listening, by "more pieces" I don't mean an OTS top, or something with ruffles sticking out all over. I mean a pretty pencil skirt, or a blouse that I can wear with or without a jacket, or a scarf, or pleasepleaseplease....a Tippi)

I like the houndstooth bomber and the tartan flats. From the comments you can order from the store.

    7. oh man... there's some cute stuff in there.. i like that sweater and the new paisley print!

      Delete
    8. Yeah that print is very pretty!

      Delete
    9. There's also a video on the gift guide page that's showing a long tartan maxi skirt. It's not in store, I.called Brookfield, but wandering if it's a part of holiday.

      Delete
    10. Same here, not one thing I like from the new roll out.

      Delete
    11. thank you for the link. I like a few of the items . thank goodness. But I don't care for the new paisley print reminds me of octupuses.

      Delete
    12. I like the new paisley print but the top is probably polyester. Not excited about much from this rollout. Really sad that so far there is nothing "holiday-ish" for me.

  8. Why is the Metcantile/Factory stuffed mixed in with the new arrivals!!!! If I wanted to look at that I would go to the Factory website.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's sneaky. Seriously, the new JC is just about tricky sales and promotions, not quality products.

      Delete
    2. It's very sneaky!!! It's like finding Old Navy workout clothes in Athleta new arrivals page... As if we wouldn't know the difference.

And if I order mercantile off retail site, does that mean I can return it to retail store?

      Delete
    3. Here is a twist. I put retail and Mercantile stuff in my cart and checked out with Ship To Store. It said my Mercantile things cannot be shipped to store. So I ended up having the whole order shipped to my home, which I did not want to do. I'm guessing they'll refuse Mercantile returns at the retail store too, which I expected in the past because they were separate, but now they should accept Mercantile returns at retail stores since they're allowing us to order Mercantile from the retail web site.

      Delete
    4. ^ i was wondering about that! I don't typically order factory clothes because I don't have a store nearby for returns, unlike retail. That is really sneaky and not cool.

      Delete
    5. I don't get this either. I did like in the past when you could combine JC and JC Factory orders. When I went into a store the other day, I asked why Factory and Mercantile stuff was on the website. She told me you can purchase Factory and Mercantile from the website but you can't return to the JC store. She was also smirking when she said this. I don't know why.

      Delete
    6. JCrew is totally shooting itself in the foot with this. People are going to order not realizing the difference and then get pissed when they can't return to the retail store.

      Delete
    7. They are not listening. every new "Thing" they try. I dislike. Its like they are trying to get rid of me!!

      Delete
    8. It’s totally ridiculous! And what’s even worse is that it’s all in the sale section, and it’s not even on sale!! Wtf!?!

      Delete
  9. So after giving it the once over I am interested in two things. First the Fair Isle turtleneck sweater which is 100% merino. However no length measurement and states hits at hip so I am guessing it will be too short for my liking. Also like the Tartan bow flats but not a fan of the elasticize back on this style. Overall the trend continues of the styles and fabric not matching up to something I would be interested in purchasing.

    ReplyDelete
  10. wow...not one item I want. If I had been even wanting to try an item I would have ordered on Sunday with promo.
looks like sale is no % off . I have given up.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm happy to see the Perfect shirt with velvet bows is offered in tall sizes. I tried it last year, liked it, but it was too short. I also like drapey wrap tops but worry that even the tall sizes are too short. The Perfect shirt in Liberty Ros floral is very pretty and I like the Ratti Paisley floral but I'm not sure if I can find something I like in that print.

    1. last year it was Thomas Mason. really lovely quality. new one is the perfect shirt..it will be of thinner cotton. hope it is okay but I find all the newer perfect shirts are very thin.

  12. The Mercantile stuff in with the new arrivals...ARGH. So annoying. Not that there's that much to even look at. I guess this rollout is phased as well so there will be more things in a few weeks (a la tartan button down...grr.)

I'm disappointed for sure. The only things I am looking at are items I want to replace that don't fit anymore. I may try the lace pants but at the rate they are going they'll be $30 in two weeks. And a little disappointed that the tartan flats are the Lottie flats and not a more polished flat.

    1. also, the Stewart plaid shirt is online but not in the new arrivals...backordered until 11/14. Annoying.

      Delete
    2. AND when I add the plaid shirt to my cart it's showing up final sale even though it's full price. I know this isn't the vent thread but...what.the.heck.

      Delete
    3. Anne, I’m not sure what size you are looking for but I have a size 6 one that I have only worn a couple of times if you’re interested.

      Delete
    4. Anne there is a glitch when you try to checkout with that shirt. Mine keeps disappearing from my wishlist and checkout. Might have to call CS to place that order. Mine did not say final sale it just vanishes.

      Delete
    5. @Lauren - I am looking for a 6 and would definitely be interested if it's the larger print Stewart plaid from last year. My email is kirchmurphy at gmail dot com if you want to send me details, how much you're looking to sell it for, etc.

      thanks! Anne

    6. FYI, the lace pants are awesome. Fit is similar to the crepe easy pant. Fabric feels substantial and the lace has a very pretty eyelash detail along the bottom.

  13. Not a review but want to give a shout out to CS at both Madewell and J.Crew.
I've been wanting to try the tie waist skirt in faille in black but it has been final sale. I reached out for exact measurements on Sunday and asked if final sale could be waived since even though I know the waist might fit, its hard to tell...CS honored my request and I ordered two sizes.
Yesterday someone mentioned an email from Madewell re new merch and as I've been getting ready for a trip I remembered the Caldwell pull on trousers I bought this winter unraveled after one wear. I emailed CS and they're willing to credit me for repairs. This is the second time I've had issues with a Madewell garmentfalling apart with minimal wear and both times CS has been helpful. (This doesn't include pilling and stretching sweaters!)

  14. Look at the item pic for H2300 (lady coat with fringe trim). This is almost identical to last year's Lady coat with braided trim (which you can now see on the Factory site, WTH?) ... but this year's version has a cheap grosgrain ribbon instead of the chain loop to hang the coat. That ribbon will rip out in 2 seconds. Ugh, these cheap shortcuts.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's bizarre. I see it on factory but can't see the price. I bought it last year. It's s little tricky to wear a coat sans collar for me but I like it with a high neck top.

  15. Like you guys, I'm super confused. Usually the "early access" is just a small preview of what is coming. Instead, it was pretty much everything. Only thing I noticed new today was a pair of earrings and the plaid flats? I made my purchases at 30%+10% early access. I guess I'm done.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. me too. early access apparently was it. good thing alot of us took advantage of early promo. I would not have known about it...if I had not read it here first! J Crew keep alot of their customers in the dark. its a wonder we all stay.

  16. Everlane: I ordered for the first time and posted my reviewson IG @wearthislikethis.
My keepers were the sweater tunic which is gorgeous and substantial. As expected, the Medium (all that was available) is on XS/S me, but works over a light top and leather skinnies. The knit itself is beautiful.
The street ankle boot is a keeper also, I took thesmaller of my two shoe sizes and the heel slips a tiny bit but with regular socks they seem to be fine. I might try a heelgrip until I break them in just in case, but heel slippage is pretty typical for me.
Two pairs of pants went back. Not flattering And odd fit, the Japanese and Italian go weave track pants. I opted for a credit instead of a refund, so I might try the full length pants in wool flannel or the Japanese go weave, which is a heavier acetate. I think it's really difficult to order pants like this online though, even with specific measurements.

  17. What...Is...Going...On...JC??!! What happened to all those beautiful fall pieces?? Hidden in the warehouse?? I would even take a looksee at beautiful holiday pieces, and I am the last fan of the tartan! After it has been in the store for almost 3 weeks, you sent me the latest catalogue...what was that for?? Where are you?! And why are you hiding all the fall/winter pieces?? I waited all year for those nice leather bags and all I got was the signet bag. I am loving the signet tote in the blue color, but you don't even offer it for me. I'm keeping hope alive that JC has something really exciting planned for us in the next few weeks...really exciting, really hopeful

  18. There are definitely things missing from the style guide: the tee with the sequin Scottie dog, the plaid earmuffs with the white band and brown fur, etc. I'm also seeing a very dark wash chambray shirt in some of the model shots of various bottoms that I can't find on the site either. I agree with others that there's little incentive to order when there are very few new items that weren't available during the 30 + 10% promo last week.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Alyssa - I'm pretty sure that dark shirt is G6859 from the men's side. I tried it and it was alright, but I didn't love the fit (the S felt too sloppy and I didn't feel like reordering an XS) and found an old dark rinse keeper chambray (02797) in my closet that works better. You're right though that things are missing. I bet they'll pop up in the next couple of days (after the promo is over, of course!).

      Delete
    2. I know some of the stuff is late and will come thursday or next week. That is so anoying as everything i wanted to try did not come today.
@silverlining i have that old dark rinse chambray too and will try it out again. Thanks for the reminder

    3. Has anyone seen the pajama top in Ratti paisley floral? Is it really polyester? I only ask because it is listed as Collection and the matching pants are described as silk. Such a gorgeous print!

    4. Shopalot, i ordered, so will post back.

    5. Shirt is poly 😱; @milljcrew on IG tried it. She also has the pants and they're lovely.

  19. The only thing I like from the new rollout is the embellished mary jane pumps and I am really trying to stay away from sky high heels, so those will prob end up a return once I walk a few steps in them and decide that at my age comfort beats fashion.

In other news, I got a fancy foil stamped on heavy cardstock invite to a holiday shopping event at the Rock Center JC at the end of the month. Jenna Bush Hager is supposed to be there. I like her, but the connection with JC seems a bit random.

  20. My question is when will that Drake’s green silk pajama top be released? 😞

  22. I also ordered from Everlane recently. It’s been awhile. The last order were silk tops from few years back. This time I ordered a short sleeve sweatshirt and a ponte top. The short sleeve sweatshirt is pretty substantial- nice hefty quality and the navy cobalt blue was nice. The design of the ponte tee with pockets reminded me of a scrub top but I’m biased cuz I’m in the health care field. But the material good quality makes up for it and it’s a basic black top that’s versatile. Also got a sweatshirt for my 5Y/o which was free after using my coupon. pretty happy with my order— haven’t felt like that with my jcrew orders lately (sad trombone).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What coupon? I just ordered the full length pant to try,the black Japanese go weave. They might be too big but since I have the credit I figured why not. Also a v neck tshirt that just looks like an elevated basic.

    2. I’m eyeing their newly released winter puffers.

      Delete
    3. Yes! They look good and prices are def reasonable.

      Delete
  23. They had mailed a $10 off $50 which was really rare! The recent one expired 11/1. Almost forgot I had it until I was cleaning a pile of mail. Yes their puffers look nice! Would like the red one but don’t really need another puffer!

    1. Red is my fave. The short ones are cute but I hate when my butt is cold. I paid more than double (triple at least) for my last longer PJ parajumpers coat with fur hood, but that was nine years ago. The fur hood makes is very special though. That is my only complaint, the Everlane ones are almost too plain.

  24. I received a few new items from the weekend promo yesterday - the wide leg pleated pant in matte crepe (H2815) and the drapey wrap top in deep alpine. I was pleasantly surprised by both and liked the pieces as a full outfit.
I am a 6 in dresses/8 in pants usually and 4/6 in blouses. I tried a 6 in the pants due to the style and this was perfect. The way these pants are shown on the model is very misleading as it makes them look like they don't have much of a waist. They are a side zip and the front is smooth and the back is elastic and they fit high at the waist. There is a weird pleat thing in the front but the leg is wide enough where it doesn't pull a ton and is ok. I liked the look better with an untucked top though and probably wouldn't wear anything tucked in with these. They are long and with 4" heels on they grazed the floor but had a nice smooth line.

I ordered a 6 in the blouse which was a good call. A lot of the blouses lately have run large but this was a good size. If you have a long torso I would probably do the tall but I was good with this length. The color online is pretty true and while I would have liked it to be a tad deeper green it's a nice holiday green and I will wear it with these pants and the glitter heels from last year. I very much appreciate that the front of the blouse at the V is stitched shut so it doesn't gape open. Woo hoo! No indecent cleavage with the right bra. Long sleeves would have been preferable but for the 30% + 10% off and the fact that I can wash it at home is fine with me.

Also...an update on my tiered bell-sleeve top in drapey crepe. I have worn this several times and love it, however after washing one of the button loops on the back of the top came undone. The button loops are elastic and one end came out of it's hole...annoying. The shirt is of course backordered until January and my store did offer to send it to the tailor, but I managed to fix it up. Definitely frustrating :/

I am going to the store tonight for a few returns and will check out the new arrivals in person.

    1. Thanks for the very helpful reviews, Anne! Glad the top and pants worked out. They look like fabulous pieces.
Sorry about the bell-sleeve top. I wonder if you can stitch the loop down somehow. Sometimes items back ordered items show up sooner, hope that's the case.

  26. I just received the cameron pants in black size 16. If anyone my size is wondering, they are amazing and feel so sturdy with a good stretch in the leg. I had to be really gentle when sliding them over my bottom, but they fit nice around the waist and perfect through the leg. I am 5'2" and I do not have a problem with the length at all, they hit right above the ankle but not too cropped. I would recommend wearing them with a sort of heel. The minute I slipped them on I felt great and I cannot wait to order them in more colors.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just received the striped turtleneck dress during the 30% + an extra 10% sale. It's very cute. I think that it will be fine in winter. I tried it on with my fleece tights and boots and it should make it through an above Chicago winter. The linen means NO stretch or give. I took a medium and the size is "just right". It's "almost" runs a little small. I am definitely not putting it in the dryer.

I did have a hard time putting it over my head - but that's probably just my issue.

I tried it on with a navy school boy blazer- cute and a white puffer vest. It will also look cute with a chunky gray, navy or black cardigan as well as a denim jacket in the spring.

I also have the navy and white Long-Sleeve Stripe dress, which is a little looser fitting.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I received the new floral pajama top, up beat tee, and Harlow star cardigan. The pajama top is polyester (some wondered if it was Mis marked as it is collection) and runs small in the bust for me. I am quite busty though so that’s important to note. The up beat tee is a great color but a pretty slim fit. I’ll keep for fun spring combos (like the khaki skirt and midnight floral skirt plus all the midis from last year). Finally, the Harlow cardi is a no. I don’t like the fabric and it feels rather drab. Just my personal preference - I like brighter colors. I’ll make my returns and consider the new sperry duck boots in cream. Those will be so cute and practical for my maternity leave all winter!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks so much for confirming the Ratti floral pajama top is indeed polyester. It is off my wishlist now. Sad trombone.
