  1. Love this promo! Ordered the striped leather envelope clutch (will be using it on its own as well as a bag-in-bag) in navy stripe (love stripes) and the summerweight cotton polo sweater in tuscan olive (sized down here based on the measurements provided by customer service and I expect it will still be a relaxed fit). Was waiting for the polo to go on sale which it did today.

  2. Duh here we go again.

Need nothing but can't resist free shipping. Scored a tie for 40% off the low sale price and a silver tie clip 40% off as well. Guess I'm still channelling my inner Dan Draper.

    1. jcrew guy thought of you this morning as I ordered two more Crosby blazers for my hubs (the fit on him is perfect), the prices on some of the men's suiting could not be beat, I was able to buy the matching trousers in his size as well... free shipping really makes the deal sweeter I agree.

    2. Dani, JCG, and any others in the know about men's suiting, I need to get a couple of jackets for my 13 year old son, who crazily is now 5'10" and 120 pounds. He is too tall for size 16, but still has bar mitzvahs to attend. Mens jacket sizing is just so much more confusing than women's or boys' sizing. Would love to take advantage of this promo but am at a loss. Any pointers on purchasing JC mens jackets??

    3. AudreyS my son is tall and slim as well, he's now 23 and topped off at 6"4" with a 32 waist, I buy him JCrew tall sizes which seem to fit him better than other tall sizes out there, the arms are actually long enough etc.
My hubs is 6' even and I buy him the regular sizes, but until the Crosby fit came out he hasn't been able to wear JCrew blazers lately, I find the fits are generally slimmer and the Crosby is designed for guys with bigger chests and arms.
I would try the regular men's line in the small sizes for your son since he's still under 6' tall. The quality of the men's suiting fabrics is really quite good compared to other brands in that price point in my opinion. Good luck! And wow your son must have had a big growth spurt, mine used to famously say his stomach was an "empty pit of misery"!

    4. The jackets from J.Crew run pretty true to size. I wear a medium in the slim cut shirts and a 40 jacket. I'm 5'9.5", about 168 pounds and the Ludlow fits me great. I have decent shoulders which can be a deal breaker as the shoulder fit is most important. If the shoulder doesn't fit don't buy it and try another.

If he's that young he's still growing and will most likely out grow the jacket soon. Look at some of the Factory options or BR, retail or factory. BR does a decent job on their tailored suits and you can often get them for less than 'crew.

Macy's INC line and Bar 3 are good options too and Macy's seems to always be one sale. Both of these from Macy's are slim and a great price for what you get.

I'd save and go with Macy's still he stops growing. Basic suit with a great tie will work well. And get the jacket and pants tailored; worst thing in my mind is a baggy jacket and pants that are too long.

    5. Thank you both for your helpful comments!

JC was always great for my son in the boys' sizes as JC kids definitely run tall and slim, so my first impulse was to go with JC for mens' jackets as well. But JCG, you are correct, in the last year he has sprouted from 5'4" to 5'10" and has outgrown both boys 14 and boys 16 jackets. I suspect he will grow another two sizes in the next year, as his dad is 6'3" and his uncle is 6'5", so Factory is actually a very good suggestion. My hesitation there is that I have no B&M factory nearby, and I am horrible at mail returns. But I kind of know what to expect, quality wise. BR is a good second option -- even tho I am completely unfamiliar with their menswear, they are such an easy return.

I used to like the INC line at Bloomies (before the acquisition) when I was younger, but the shopping experience at my local Macy's is such a bummer (cluttered and messy, and ever elusive SAs) that I prefer to avoid unless I know exactly what I want to buy. But thank you, again, for pointing this out; I did not even know INC had a mens line. I will definitely check it out if factory and BR don't work out.

  3. OT - was disappointed at the JM Drygoods x Madewell collab. Only one shirt? I thought there would be a few more embroidered shirts. Am I missing something? Weak sauce for sure.

  4. Since I am leaving for my trip tomorrow, I stopped in store expecting 40% off - need to replace my gingham boyshirt from years ago. In store was advertised 30% off, but online advertises 30% off (online and in-store). They honored the 40, but just wanted to bring to everyone's attention!

  5. I got Le Capitaine sweatshirt (which is really more of a tee) for $29.99 and free shipping. Thank you jcrew guy in Canada for mentioning the free shipping, it wasn't showing on my phone.

    1. I was going to try this shirt but when I read the reviews about the color transfer even after laundering I changed my mind. I think as least three people mentioned that other items they were wearing with this were ruined. One person mentioned that the lettering even turned blue after being washed. I do think it is super cute though.

  6. I know this is OT, but can anyone recommend clear drawer storage boxes for statement necklaces? I'm not sure what the best ones are and figured someone here might know! TIA

    1. Vava, you should check out The Container Store. I haven't used any of their jewelry storage options myself but have organized other areas of my home with their products. Here is an example: http://www.economyofstyle.net/2014/07/clear-customizable-jewelry-storage.html

  7. I ordered a bunch of things that had been lingering in my shopping bag, including the patio pant in heavy chambray (I'm living in my cotton patio pants right now), the patchwork striped t-shirt in blue/navy, a "jackie" (they aren't really jackies any more, in my opinion, with the long sleeves) in vintage elm, and the overtime dress in black.

Regarding the overtime dress, I went down a size based on the reviews (I'm sort of an 8 on top, 10 on bottom right now with JCrew sizes, and went with an 8, whereas I normally buy dresses in 10 these days).

Does anyone here have this dress? It looks lovely in the pictures, but the reviews are decidedly mixed. Since it isn't final sale, I figured it was worth the risk.

  8. In my never-ending quest for a decent pair of simple, black, work-appropriate pants (why is this so hard?), I ordered the sole remaining pair of 1035 Italian stretch wool trousers. Maybe, just maybe, these will be THE ones . . .

    1. Cobalt, you've just described my life goal. I have tried just about every pant Crew makes and have yet to find one I am in love with. I loved the Cafe Capris and the Minnies at times, but have not found a current work pant in black that I adore.

    2. Have you tried BR's Ryan pant in black (175335)? Fabric content: 50% Cotton, 39% Polyester, 11% Spandex

    3. @cobalt while they didn't work for me, Everlane makes a lightweight wool black pant that are around $70 - called the slim trouser (comes in charcoal, navy and grey). I was a little too curvy for these pants but liked them in concept!

    4. Thanks for the commiseration and suggestions! I too had high hopes for the Everlane pants, but they didn't work on me either (and I have no curves, go figure). I haven't tried BR pants in a while and should really check out their newer fits. Thanks again!
