This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
Does anyone know if the Garden Short in Linen (currently $39.99 on sale with 40% off online) is the same price or less in store? Last week when I went in they weren't on sale. (And they are one of the few items in my store I'd buy.)
ReplyDeleteThey're on sale in store for same price +50% off. I picked up the white ones. I've noticed stores can miss markdowns, so I just show them the website. That works too.
DeleteWhat's the consensus on coveralls? I saw a SA at Madewell wearing one last week and it looked amazing on her. The same one (Coverall Zip Jumpsuit) just popped back in a size up from my usual, not final sale, so I ordered it. It might look like a total disaster or it might be adorable. (Or I might give it to my artist daughter.)
ReplyDeleteI think the slim fitting overalls do look cute, at least on bloggers, lol! But I actually think it's really most appropriate on younger people. I'm in my 40's and wouldn't feel comfortable rocking them.
DeleteI have a pair of Madewell coveralls and I love them. I have the ones that button up the front. I tried the ones that zip and liked them as well but they didn't fit as well as the button up version as I recall. They are so easy to just put on and go and I am over 50. They were TTS. I also wear overalls and get lots of compliments. I think we have had conversation before, it is whatever works for you!

DeleteI misread. You said coveralls, not overalls. Those might be more wearable for older ladies. Again, though for me, not a look I'd wear, having nothing to do with age, however. I'm shortish and think they'd look ridiculous on me!
DeleteThe Coverall Zip Jumpsuit from Madewell is very cute IRL and also well-made. However, I tried it in 2 sizes, XSmall & Small, and neither one of them worked out for me. The XSmall felt too snug in the shoulders and thigh area, so I exchanged for the Small. Sadly, the small ended up sagging at the bum, but also felt a tag snug in the shoulder area, so I returned them, as well. Sizing up to a medium to fit my shoulders isn't an option, as they would really be sagging on the lower half. If you have narrow shoulders they may work out, but not so much so for women that have broad shoulders or a large bust, imho.
DeleteThanks ladies. I also think the overalls and coveralls look really good on some of the bloggers but the last time I wore overalls besides gardening or painting was when I was pregnant, and it's difficult to get behind the look again at 46. That said, the SA wearing the coveralls and one some of the bloggers, they really look cute and comfy. No risk, so if they don't work for me or my 20 yo DD they go back.
DeleteCANADIANS...we now have DHL shipping. is borderfree gone?it says limited time only? DHL is $12...Borderfree was $1O. looks like DHL is going to be faster...I have an order coming...will let Can. JCA's know.. Carolyn from Canada
ReplyDeleteThere's some kind of Canada Post strike looming, so this might be a temporary measure.
Delete@unknown, DHL is still borderfree but should be faster. Agree with shopgrrrl that's it's likely due to possible CP strike. I feel bad for Jcrew eating this extra shipping cost because of CP.
DeleteI tried on the Short-sleeve chambray shirtdress. It fits on the big side, I normally take size 12 or L, but could wear the M for a less baggy fit, which I preferred to the L, but the L still looked okay. I'm 5'9" and found the length fine, just above my knees. The fabric was nice and soft and fell nicely. I think this would make an amazing travel dress, very comfy for all-day wear, but chic enough to go out for lunch/dinner without looking like you're wearing traveling clothes. The showstopper for me was the sleeves. I found the rolled cuff too bulky under the arms, and it stuck out a bit on top despite the softness of the material. I have big shoulders, so perhaps I'm more sensitive to this, but I don't like anything that broadens my shoulders. I also thought the rolled sleeves might be awkward/bulky if you threw on a cardigan (didn't think to try this at the time, sorry). So.....nearly a great dress for me, but too bad about those sleeves.
ReplyDeleteI have a review of the cherry t-shirt and chino shorts on my blog here. Hope they help!
ReplyDeleteDuring my trip to Florida I picked up some basics which I'm really liking.
ReplyDeleteSunday slim chino shorts (bohemian red plaid)- I loved the colours and the lightweight feel of these shorts. Great for the sweltering heat lately. They have been very comfortable to wear. I took my larger size in shorts so they sit lower on the hips and to get a little extra length. I think they're meant to be worn at waist (my smaller size did that) but I preferred them a bit more relaxed. I normally wear the chino shorts if I wear shorts but these are more comfy due to the lighter material.
Sunday slim chino shorts (madras) - took the same size as the bohemian red plaid. I love madras, was a little disappointed that these are more washed out in colour than I thought but kept them since I love my others. Also lightweight. Hoping they hold up though because the patchwork seems to make them more delicate.
Oval link long necklace- I bought the tortoise shade (can't recall exact name) and think it's a simple but pretty necklace for a reasonable price with a promo. I like it double stranded, you can see the ribbon when you do this but it doesn't bother me.
Ballet tees- picked up a couple more since I've worn the one I bought awhile ago quite a bit. Fit is tricky, I found trying in store is best as two in the same size can be different in width and length. My navy stripe one is def shorter than the solid colour ones.
Navy striped sun hat in cotton blend- i like that the brim isn't too large (I have the large straw Sunhat with a large brim but sometimes it just feels too big). I really like that the brim can be adjusted / molded and holds some structure or shape without being too floppy. I feel I have a big enough head lol but took a S/M in this one. This hat looks stylish while keeping me safe in the sun.
Perfect shell - in perfect tees I size up to a medium but I took a small in the shell. The medium gaped at the sides and showed my bra. The small fit well, this is a slim fit but wasn't really tight on me although I have a small chest. I like the weight as its not super thin like some tees and you can wear a bra without worrying about bra straps. I bought the navy stripe, I can't seem to walk away from stripes. :)
@jan, your detailed reviews are so helpful. Thanks!!
DeleteThank you! I realize though I forgot to mention that I sized down in the ballet tees. :) I'm happy that I've found a lot to like this season compared to last summer.
DeleteThe Ballet Tees are a favorite of mine. I have three and debating about getting another. I love the neckline.
Delete@maryeb, since they're included in the 40% promo today I might pick up another too. :) I like the neckline too, it makes it a little dressier I find and it looks nice with a necklace.
DeleteMy seersucker midi skirt and crop top arrived this week. The fabric is super soft and I love that they put a lining and pockets in the skirt. The fit is TTS but the top is really hard to get on and off as there is no stretch in the fabric and no zipper. Sadly, I have to return this as they made me look wider than necessary. It wasn't very flattering and I looked frumpy. :(
ReplyDeleteSide Note: I'm happy that J.Crew is being proactive and giving the Canadians DHL Express as Canada Post may go on strike starting July 2. I think we will get our packages faster! :)
I'm returning the seersucker top tomorrow. I wasn't feeling it anymore after trying size 2 and 4. The 4 fit fine, but the elastic kept riding up, revealing my stomach. No thanks to that. haha!
DeleteThe seersucker skirt is on waitlist, and will cancel that order.
Forgot, I also bought the Wrap Dress in sun drenched pool when it went on sale. I was surprised to see it hit sale since it sold out so quickly online. I originally tried it in my usual sz 0 for these type of dresses which seemed right but was a tad snug near the waist. I found it a bit lowcut though (I have a small chest) so I returned it at FP. I was happy with the sale price in case I need an alteration so I bought it and it actually fit better in sz 0 in the one I got in store. Maybe the waist was stretched a tad from tryons. I love the longer length at 5'7" and the colour is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great reviews, Jan, I enjoyed reading them!
DeleteI'm happy if I can help, I always appreciate everyone's reviews so glad if I can return the favour. :)
DeleteReceived the gingham flat lace up shoe and I love them. I got them 30% off and they were still kind of expensive. The fit is TTS and the quality is good. The gingham is smaller scale and I like that. They seem like they will be comfy although I just walked around the house in them while I was watching all the tributes to Pat Summitt. I have worked around her for about 5 years now, sad day for Knoxville, a true Volunteer.
ReplyDeleteDD-I've been so touched by all the personal stories that have been aired about her. It seems she was a woman to be admired for many attributes beyond her phenomenal coaching feats.
DeleteHi JCAs -- review here of the crossback plaid dress ($98), which is online only.
ReplyDeleteHi Gigi, I was curious about this dress. It looks pretty on you. I agree about it being lowcut, fine for a coverup but a little too low for me still. I thought it would be a big seller because of the plaid.
DeleteA couple of sale tops reviewed in this post - the bow-tie large gingham print and the tie-front gingham shirt.
ReplyDeleteReceived Collection yarn dyed silk plaid off shoulder dress that's on sale for $149.99. I ordered my usual size 8. It does run big so I'd recommend sizing down. Fabric is thin and I'm ok with that for a summer dress. It does feel like silk but not the better quality; it's not rough, but you can feel the difference when compared to a higher quality fabric. The off shoulder stays in place when moving around so this is a plus. Now that I've received it, I can see why multiple sizes are still available. On super sale, you may want to try it. It was $63, so I'm going to reorder the 6 & then decide.
ReplyDeleteSharing a patriotic ensemble on the blog today. I'm styling the Factory white denim and Factory nude strappy sandals, which is a great Stuart Weitzman dupe. Both run TTS.
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th everyone!
