This is the kind of promotion where you need to check the item page to see if the item is in fact eligible. Almost like a game of "peek-a-boo, I see you promo!"

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? If so, please share!

  1. As much as I love a sale, the sale games are wearing me out. Why buy today at 30% when yesterday was 40% and it likely will return again? And it's mostly the same old stuff.

I'm glad we're seeing tiny glimpses of classic JCrew, but the stripe top with stripe skirt and gingham top with gingham skirt is getting real old. While I'm ranting, shiny ponies aka shoes sounds so silly out of grown women! And talking about the half tuck shirt like it's innovative also bugs.

    1. I agree with the sale rant. The sale game is getting old. I didn't buy anything yesterday at 40% off and free shipping but I checked the sale this morning and the pleated midi skirt in lilac pop back up in my size so I bought at 30% plus shipping! Ugh so frustrating!

I received the gingham skirt and the print is way too big for my small frame it looked ridiculous. Returning to the store today.

    2. Yep, I know the frustration of the constantly changing promotions. But this article on price discrimination by Economy of Style, helped me to be less irritated. Here's the link. http://www.economyofstyle.net/2011/04/price-discrimination-at-our-favorite.html

    3. I agree the price games are annoying, but weirdly I'm sure there is psychological relevance to them, for if sale was always 40% off we wouldn't be interested. The oversized gingham tank seems to always avoid promo, so I will wait until it hits sale. Yesterday I did buy a pair of shoes that finally went on sale. These will be a staple in my wardrobe, so no regrets. Today I bought a swimsuit that was not available in my size yesterday, so I feel suckered a bit. I guess if they have 40% anytime in the next week I can ask for a PA.

    4. Couldn't agree more regarding shiny ponies. Awesome Jenna, you call your favorite shoes shiny ponies, great, I'm not going to, thanks.

Also, as if the internet needed more shoe selfies.

    5. I would love to hear the inside story on price discrimination, how the algorithm works, etc. I wonder if decisions are literally made day-to-day, so that they can keep us coming back to the website/store more often? I know it's working for me at Gap right now, they've got me checking in online daily, and at the store weekly. I've been stalking a skirt for a month, and they are totally holding the line on price, and now I feel like I've waited this long, I deserve a bigger discount. When it sells out tomorrow, I'll be kicking myself over a few bucks!

    6. Ladies I'm completely with you.

As you all know I love me some free shipping. I try to stay up to date with the prices; but this carnival game of pricing by J.Crew is maddening. If it's on sale for 30% retail fine, but why does it need to bounce around like the value of the Canadian dollar?

Worse yet are many items 'on sale' from last year or possibly even older that are clearly winter; like the wool shetland sweaters. If you're going to show them as a sale item at least move them to half price.

By the time fall/winter hits J.Crew can just mark the two year old wool stuff back up to full price and say they're new arrivals!

  2. I'm somewhat done with this season. Some of the items I liked are sold out. The only items left are basics: Ts and shorts....

Looking forward to July roll-out when fall items are released!

    1. Hi JSR - looks like there's a spot for the July style guide on JC's Pinterest page, which says new rollout on June 14th.

    2. Amen! All of the nice ones are sold out. Let's move on...

    3. The July catalog is very thin and a lot of the items are already on store.
The will be a print in the off shoulder dress.

    4. J. Crew really went for it on the off the shoulder thing this season. Between the shirts and the dresses, there are about 45 variations.

    5. I think the reason why they did so much gingham, so many off-shoulder garments was to give people options for getting something from those trends. But at this point, to my eye at least, it's tired. I'm with you JSR, I'm done with this particular season. I bought one outfit and a bag. That was perfect.

  3. OT: If you've been around here awhile, you remember Jeannie who used to blog on Colorful Corporette. You might also remember that she lost her husband in 2013. She's been so gracious to share another intimate update. See what's going on, three years later.

  4. I remember that and am so happy to hear good news for her and her boys. Thanks Gigi.

  6. I just glanced at the linked article, interesting, but I realized about 15 or so years ago (since POS and computers arrived in stores) that as a shopper I can't go chasing every sale. I will go nuts.
Chain stores eventually mark everything down so I wait

There will be another sale and another top or pair of pants
