Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  2. If you're looking for classic cable-knit sweaters or affordable suede smoking slippers, Gap's got you covered. I blogged about my recent purchases here.

    1. I've been enjoying some Gap stuff this fall as well - the long peacoat in particular. It is definitely heavy and oversized, but I didn't find it sloppy. It has a quilted lining and slash pockets at the chest which are nice. I took my regular S - could've sized down but I decided I liked the oversized look. It was nice and warm this morning (20F, wind chill made it feel like 12F). It seems like a coat that JC would've done.

    2. @silver_lining, that coat definitely looks more luxe than Gap's usual offerings. It reminds me of the mens' dock peacoat from J.Crew. Very classic.

I think Gap has really stepped up their game from previous seasons. The styling is fresher, and even the pictures on their website look better.

    3. I like Gap in theory, but my store never has anything in store. It's usually a bunch of picked over piles, things not my size, etc. I went looking for jeans recently and they had hardly anything. I didn't see any of the cute coats that people have been posting online. I think my Gap is lamer than most. But their web site is abysmal (the ordering process and using of coupons/rewards, not the merchandise). So I haven't been buying from them lately.

    4. I agree that Gap is stepping it up from the low place they've been during the last few years. I've had good experiences at the store and on the web site in the last few months.

    5. @cate Now Gap has a reserve-in-store feature on their website (that I wish J.Crew would copy). If you have a specific item you want to check out, you can use it to figure out what's in stock at your local store before you head over. Saves you the hassle of going if they don't carry it.

  5. I continue to really like what I see at Boden. To my surprise, I even liked the gray and red Jack Terrier sweater in their holiday catalog!

  6. Everlane's new chunky merino sweaters are AMAZING. Better than their cashmere and definitely better than JC's cashmere. I'm buying all of the pieces!

    1. Camille, I agree love them. I did notice a small amount of pilling under the arms on the first wearing, nothing like J Crew but wondered if others had the same issue?

    2. I actually returned my gray sleeveless sweater. Didn't have the right slouch on my and I also found the fiber to be kinda shiny/too smooth looking for my taste. I do love everlane though!

  7. I blogged about some cute plaid pants I found, since the Crew didn't deliver!

Also...sharing a photo of Jenna who went to Solange's wedding at New Orleans over the weekend. Jenna looks dreamy in her feather skirt. Thumbsdown on the fur though..wonder if its faux.

  11. The Embellished Fair Isle Sweater from Loft seems very J.Crew. I saw it in store today and it's very thick and a little fuzzy. Here is a close up of the jewels: http://instagram.com/p/vrv4NYTXrr.
