J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Please forgive the OT post, but a few popular plaid blanket scarves have restocked on the Zara website, if anyone has been wanting one. HTH someone!

  3. I bought my husband a couple of things lately that were big hits, like the tweed topcoat for example in "dusty brown" which has wonderful subtle colours all through, mushroom and grey, looks great with his silver hair. Also the Donegal sweater... there is a picture of him in both on my blog this week (Monday post).
The JCrew mens section continues to provide quality looks for my hubs and son, I've also been buying shirts for them in the tall sizes, a nice selection this fall and they wash up so well, especially the white oxford!

    2. Fivesouth, thanks for the great review! I have been trying to catch these on pop back but no such luck in my size. Thanks for pointing out that Piperlime and Nordstrom carry them. I just picked them up at Piperlime with a 25% off promo they are having a some rewards money ;)

    3. Lauren, you're welcome! Glad you were finally able to pick them up in your size and with a promo too! That's great.

  6. Collection A-line skirt in Italian wool gauze (item B0890)

Fabric was a dull color, more grey than blue. Length stopped too short on me for me to wear it with tall boots, as I don't like a space between the bottom of a skirt and the top of a boot.

  7. My most recent order was a complete bust. I thought I'd try the side-zip sweatshirt in the royal blue. Sized down but the thing was still huge. This oversized trend I guess just isn't very comfortable for me. I like things to fit better than that. Then I tried b5325, the broken in boyfriend jean. Huge. I understand they are loose fitting, but when they slide down over your hips to your knees, it's just not going to work for me. Again, the oversized thing maybe isn't for me. Finally, I had in that order a pair of the lodge moccasins. I ordered them in my usual size 7 and my big toe was pushing on the end. Too short. Decided I didn't like them enough to exchange them, so back they go. I posted reviews on all these items and customer service was nice enough to waive the return shipping fee. That was really nice of them!

  8. The Chateau coat is beautiful. TTS if not a little roomy. A line shape. The ginger color is awesome.

The stovepipe tweed pants are awesome. Lined and all. The tweed is the prettiest tweed I've encountered in a long time.

The old staple V neck cashmere sweater is beautiful. I have been experimenting with other brands cashmere and for the money I came back to Jcrew. Brora was nice and but very pricey. Pure collection I didn't find to be better quality than JCrew. Anyway I love the v-neck, the color heather fresco I think, is gorgeous.

    1. Sara (or anyone else) would you mind sharing the item number on the cashmere piece you liked from this year. I have been disappointing by some items but hope that others might be of better quality.

    2. Glad to hear that the stovepipe tweed pants are a hit. I really want to get these. Are they TTS? The linen ones this past summer ran big.

    3. Tweed pants - TTS. Fabric - TDF, but v. heavy. Definitely winter wear. Would love to see this material in a blazer with narrow lapels!

    4. the tweed pants are sold out :( the decently made stuff that is pricier than maybe should be still gets sold out consistently!

    5. Sorry for the delay, the cashmere v-neck is item number 29660. Also I did find the stovepipe tweed pants to be TTS. Keep checking back on these, I bet there will be pop-backs.

  9. I'm undecided about the chateau parka. The fur collar comes down very low on the sides and resembles a lion's mane. But if I take it off, those snaps on the outside of the hood bother me. The coat is perfect other than that, but that might be a deal breaker for me.

  10. the drapey wool sweat pants....I am 5'5" and they are too short.
the end on end long shirt....in my usual shirt size was too large
the inky floral dress terrible cut....pockets and waist at my knees ( From other reviews I believe the staduim cloth drop waist coat to be of the same poor cut)
wool v neck cardi in blush...spot on lovely
    four square scarf....love it
RMS beauty products...light on coverage and quality
evie sandels in navy tts...quality not great so only purchase on sale.

  12. Love, love the Maddie pants! I've wanted a pair of slim pants in stretchy wool, but the Minnies, like most J.Crew pants, were a disaster on me--I am an hourglass with a high waist and the Minnies unflatteringly hit me at a wide part. When I saw the reviews complaining that the waist on the Maddies was too small and too high, I knew they'd be perfect for me. I would describe the fit in the waist and hips as similar to the Eaton pant, the only other JC pant that has been a success for me. Even though the copy describes the Maddies as "straight," they are definitely on the slim/skinny side through the leg. The fabric is dressy enough that I can wear them with a nice jacket for work, but hefty enough that I can tuck them into boots for a casual look. Hope they go on sale so I can pick up several additional colors.

    1. I like the pants, too! I own it in grey and planning on ordering the dark quartz and black...

    2. I am disappointed to hear this (selfishly - glad for you though!) because I love the look of these & all of the beautiful colors but the Eatons were tragic on my body. Bummer.

      Delete
    3. I loved the eaton pants (paley are my all time favorite) but the maddie (I ordered my usual size 10....were too small \?? did you size up from the eaton to the maddie or did I get an off pair ?

      Delete
    4. Hi Unknown, I have both the Eaton and the Maddie in my usual JC pant size, so I don't know whether you got an off pair or I did. I guess I will find out when I order my second pair of Maddies.

Also, one more thing--these are not particularly long pants. I am 5'4" with short legs but I can't wear petite pants, so I always order R and get them hemmed if necessary. The Maddies were only a teensy bit too long--less than half an inch. Anyone who's taller or has longer legs will likely want to try the T.

    5. Seconding Hexicon's love for the Maddie pants! I'm also 5'4 and somewhat high waisted, and the Maddie fits perfectly. This may be my favorite J.Crew purchase of the year! They aren't perfect in every way; the pants are unlined, which I'm not fond of, and some might find the wool scratchy, but I love the fit and the quality is excellent.

It sounds like the sizing may not be consistent, because I had to go down a full size for the Maddie. Possibly the sizing varies with different colors...that seems to be a recurring issue with J.Crew. I bought the pants in black, for reference - but I'm definitely planning on ordering more!

  13. I received the Downing bucket bag in cobblestone stone. It's a cute bag. It's a tad darker IRL, the lighting on the photo online definitely brightened the bag's color. It's roomy inside. I like how its pebble leather, and has a casual feel to it. I wasn't 100% in love with it, so I returned it. Hopefully it won't sell out if I decide to buy it again.

  14. I bought the leather panel dress last week and just love it! I took my usual size 4, although I did try the 6 on as well but the 4 fit my hourglass curves perfectly. The fabric is thick and stretchy, covered zippers (yay) but not sure why there are zippers at the sleeve/wrist (useless, but not noticeable). The leather is of good quality and the black with navy is very sophisticated. I did buy when it was 25% off in store but would have bought at full price- can't say that very often anymore :-)

  17. I accidentally put my Hugo Guinness Blahblah t-shirt in the dryer and it shrank about 5 sizes. My size Medium would have fit a 9 year old girl. If you ever do this with J. Crew's linen tees, put it back through the wash, give it a good shake and hang it to dry. My blahblah shirt is fine now. I've done this with another couple of J. Crew linen tees and had good luck with it.

    1. Thanks for posting this! I recently had the same thing happen with my linen baseball tee, so I'll definitely try this!

  18. Finally got into the store to look around. There just wasn't much I was loving. There was a really cute grey t-shit w/a large cabbage flower on the front. It looked great under the sheer fuzzy cardigans that are available in a lot of pretty colors. I really liked the cardigan, but I know it'll get marked down, so I'm waiting that out. The cardigan is TTS. The t-shirt ran a little small IMO. Also tried on a cute black and white floral top. It's a polyester fabric with wool at the neckline. Very flattering. I tried a size 4, and it fit TTS, but might be a teeny bit snug under the arms. I've started taking pics of everything I try on. I'm finding that some things I love don't look so great, and other things I'm iffy on look good. It's definitely helping me spend less $$.

  19. A little off-season for many of us, but here's a review of the embroidered scallop dress. I liked it, despite not having pockets.

  20. Love the painted-stripe sweatshirt! Bought it on a whim when the exploded-floral sweatshirt turned out to be a disaster on me (it was like the entire shirt was exploding all over my chest, blech). Actually almost persuaded myself to return it, but tried it on this AM over my pleated stretch flannel dress from last year and was instantly convinced. It has a very 'varsity' vibe with the super-wide stripe. Slim fit, I took the larger of my 2 JC sizes in this one. You can see a pic on my IG at poettodesign.

  22. Has anyone tried the Cleo suede loafers? The reviews are all over the place. I am a normal size 7 in flats but the Sophie loafer ran half a size big for me. TIA!

    1. Hi Taylor! I found the Cleo's to be tts. I wear the same size in those as I do the Ceces if that helps.

    2. Thanks Lauren! I am TTS in the Ceces as well.

    3. Hi Taylor. I have the Cleo suede loafers in a beautiful blue color. They're tts for me, also. I'm 7.5 and find that I take 7.5 in J. Crew ballet flats and loafers. I have to go to 8 in the pumps and wedges. If this helps, here's a review of the perforated Cleo loafers and an Instapic of my suede loafers. The 2nd isn't a full shot, fyi.

    4. Thanks Gigi! I love that color! I'm going for the purple - hope it's as vibrant in real life as it appears online. For $63 I'm going to take the plunge.

  23. I tried on the blurred ikat skirt, and it looked horrible on me (I guess I am just not made for those types of skirts). It is, however, true to size, and not as short as the fluted crepe skirt.
Also tried on the mixed houndstooth dress. The lining made a lot of noise when I moved, and I could feel the itchiness of the wool through the lining (weird, right?). True to size. It's marked at 127.99 in store, but 99.99 online.

  24. Also! I mentioned this in the rant post, but I received the short Pixies today, and they are actually short, as advertised! I know myself and Ina have had problems with them in the past, but it seems they've finally tagged the merch properly! Hurray!
