JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

    1. I am wearing the Campbell in navy today! I love them. (I did get them for $14 at the clearance store a few weeks ago which just adds to the love.) They look great on you. I have a pair in the mint from earlier in the year but I am mistrustful of the seams on that pair - they obviously had a quality issue for a while. A friend of mine bought a blue shade & they split up the middle in the back. Whoopsie!

  2. Bling experts, I need you!

Trying to put an outfit together for my husband's office holiday party. Got this dress in dark sky and silver BR pumps. I almost never wear jewelry aside from my wedding band and a ladies Timex so I'm at a loss with how to accessorize this. I'm not opposed to a statement necklace or bracelet, but I never look in JC's jewelry section so it's a bit overwhelming. If anybody has any pieces they particularly like or would recommend, I'd love to hear it!

    1. In no way am I an expert, but I'll offer my two cents.
That dress has such beautiful, structured lines, I would probably add a blingy bracelet. Perhaps this one or this one.

I have been eying this necklace for myself. I love it's elegant simplicity and it would be pretty worn so that it hit above the neckline of your dress.

Going rogue, I recently had to get a semi-formal outfit together at the last minute and bought this necklace. I'm not a statement necklace wearing gal, but I felt comfortable wearing this. I saw one of the SAs wearing it with a white blouse and it looked great dressed down. The neckline of the dress I wore it with was not as wide/open as the one on your dress.

You are going to look beautiful whatever you choose. That is a fabulous dress.

    2. I agree with mareb and would wear a bracelet.
Have you seen the glacier bracelet? I just bought it after seeing it on a lady and loved it.It is very blingy and perfect for an event, but still comfy to wear.

    3. Since your shoes are silver, I would go with similar in jewelry, silver_lining. Also maybe a silver metallic scarf, depending on the bag you plan to wear (may be too much silver).

    4. A silver scarf is a great idea, too. I tried one when I was at White House Black Market. It doesn't look like much on-line, but IRL it looks like liquid silver and it was wide enough that I could wear it as a wrap around my shoulders. If you have a store near you, it might be worth checking it out. Here's the link.

    6. Maryeb, I saw that necklace in the sale section at the Mall at Short Hills store yesterday. If you're still interested, now would be the time! On sale, and then 40% off!

    7. Thanks, Gina. I see the necklace is now sold out on-line.

    8. Thanks, ladies - you've given me some great ideas!

  3. Love the dress! Great find - It can take almost anything! I've done things like roll up a silk scarf into a thin tube, then finger-crochet it into a "chain" to be tied at the back of the neck, have a few other little scarf tricks, too, because I can't let mystery metal touch my skin. Have a wonderful time!

  4. Factory - 50% off everything, today only. New arrivals are online, like the red/black check puffer vest (reviewed here). Of course the puffer vests are still excluded. The red plaid peacoat -- also a new arrival -- gets the 50% off.

EXTRA20 still gets 20% off clearance, but also gives free shipping, no min.

    1. I received an invitation through my AMEX card to sign up for an event at the Robson store tonight. Unfortunately, I am unable to go.

On another note, I also received a JC Rewards card although I didn't charge anything to my JC card in a long, long time. Did anyone else receive this? Sorry if it has already been discussed, but I haven't read here very closely in a while.

  7. I need suggestions for what would look good with the collection dutch floral pants. Be specific if you think of a certain J Crew item, the odds are I might just have it. By the way, I wore my Danke sweatshirt to take Doodle to the vet last Saturday. It seemed fitting for her breed. :)

    1. They are very colourful, so I think almost any colour from the design that you want to pick up in a top would look great. Black and red are the obvious choices, but I would try that blue in the primula flowers. I prefer a long-sleeve tee or a Tippi sweater - something very plain in design.

    2. I would pair them with the black sleeveless silk blouse (untucked) underneath a cropped white/ cream sweater, and a black-dominant necklace.

  8. Hi JCAs- for those who have the minnie in bi stretch wool-how badly do they stretch out around the bottom? Compared to the twills? TIA!

    1. peis, I have had all the minnies in wool and they do not stretch at all.

    2. Greetings Peis - There seems to be minimal stretching. Enough to accommodate lunch, but not so much as to signify SBS (Saggy Butt Syndrome). Thus, keep the size that fits you in-store or out of the UPS package. Should be form-fitting, but not sausage-case-fitting. FYI, I take a 6 in the Twill Minnies, but a 4 in Bi-Stretch Wool Minnies fits best. The new Zippered Minnie Pant runs small, so I went back up to a 6 in those. Love, love, love the Minnies! Good luck! Jennifer

    3. Peis -- I agree that the bi-stretch wool stretches out minimally throughout the day. It washes well under gentle cycle and I hang dry it without a problem. I have tried the navy twill minnies and felt it sagged in the butt quite a bit (Yes, Jennifer, Saggy Butt Syndrome). So I returned the twill ones.

    4. minimal or no stretching with the wool minnies. i take my usual size in them.

  9. Totally off topic, but the Toothpicks in the destructed miller wash are marked down, with an extra 40% off!!!! I've been waiting forever for these to go on sale, and finally picked up a pair. Hurrayyyy, my day's been made!

  10. Off-topic but the J.Crew website is offering 25% off regularly priced items and an extra 30% off sale items right now through 11/23. Lots more stuff on sale. This is not happening in stores at all. Also, $5 flat rate shipping.

    1. I'm not seeing this. The item I was going to order is still full price (and not an collaboration exclusion). What promo code did you use?

    2. I only see 30% off Winter picks and sale items with code SHOPNOW. There are a limited number of items considered Winter picks.

  11. Help my friends--- the chateau parka--- I love is coat. I scored the red in my size- it's beautiful, but very bright--- but I do love it--- wondering if I should exchange for the grey? The red is sold out online so I know exchanging for gray isn't an issue--- the red definitely makes a statement--- the gray is more mainstream, but too boring??? Help!!

    1. I loved it in the gray, but I love gray. I think it just depends whether you want to stand out or blend in. Also, will the red go with enough of your wardrobe that you can wear it enough? You can't go wrong with either one. If you're drawn to the red, keep it!

  12. Greetings Momma Wags - I'm not a fan of the Neon Electric Flame colorway, J.Crew's "red" for coats this fall. I think because it has too much pink in it - I would like it a lot more if it were a more classic, scarlet-y red. But that's just me - I think people should wear clothing that makes them feel great vs. feeling "safe". One thing to note . . . a lighter color may shed all over your darker clothes. I had this experience with the Sandstone and Heather Graphite Stadium Cloth Cocoon coat. You may want to consider ordering Heather Dusk and comparing the two if you can. Good luck! Jennifer

    1. I never noticed my gray Cocoon coat shedding, but I don't wear a lot of black so maybe I just didn't notice it. The gray Chateau parka seemed a little smoother/thinner/less plush than the retail Cocoon coat, though, so I think it would be even less likely to shed. The more I think about it, though, the more I think go for the red, it really is striking!
