This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!

Pigtails and Pearls
I just received the lightweight Bermuda shorts in Neon Yellow. They are REALLY bright, like glow in the dark bright. I was thinking of sending them back but maybe could be talked into keeping them if I can style them properly. Or they may just be too bright. Any ideas or suggestions out there for anyone who has successfully purchased Neon Yellow?
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of yellow and grey, so I think the neon yellow would look awesome with a dark charcoal.
DeleteAlso, I have the biennial satchel in citron, which, while not highlighter bright, is still a pretty vibrant color. I like it paired with navy (as suggested by shopmurphy and MJ), but also with coral/salmon.
sega61, you can also pull them off with navy and even a bright purple. I've seen a VPS wear the circle eyelet skirt in fresh kiwi from last summer with a bright purple top and it looked great on her.
Deletesega61, I had similar concerns about the neon lime cashmere cardi -- such a pretty color, but so very neon! I ended up pairing it with an equally bright color (the vibrant cobalt super 120s pencil skirt). Don't know why, but somehow the two brights actually toned each other down.
DeleteI'll echo the earlier suggestions of darker neutrals like charcoal and navy. Be careful with stark black, though -- black + neon can look very 1980s, unless the black is in a pattern like shopmurphy's fab outfit linked below.
@sega61 I think if you pair them with a neutral (black/white/navy/beige) you can pull it off. I definitely think it's a color that will probably only last the summer, but might as well rock it while you can. I styled a neon yellow tee on my blog here and the neon-cap toe milas with jeans/tee (but you can get color ideas)

Shopmurphy is right- a white tee or linen shirt, anything blue- dark or light. Denim will defintely tone it down, also a print. The new Hawaiian sunset print would look good with them too. Good luck- I thik they are fun!

ReplyDeleteI bought the ivory embroidered gauze tunic and would love some styling ideas.
ReplyDeleteHelp...kimono stripe maxi dress, I bought it last year, final sale. It's a more regular black and white stripe than this year's version. I am about 5'6" and wear a 0. The waistline just feels wrong, high but not empire. Not sure how to deal with the open V back. (Tank underneath?)I got xs and it just feels a little short. I am almost tempted to just cut off the top and wear it as a maxi skirt (although even that is out of my comfort zone). Any suggestions? I bought it thinking it would be great for summer concerts in the park but it feels like I need to do too much styling to make it work.
ReplyDeleteIs there any truth to the "dye may transfer to lighter fabrics" warning on indigo stuff? I ordered the denim no. 2 pencil skirt from Factory, and it's cute, but it had that warning on it. If I wash it before wearing, is it less likely to happen?
