Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I finally received the LEC Millerain Waxed Canvas Parka (after it had been on back-order for what seemed like ages)…I really think it's beautiful. The green is a vibrant hue and the striped lining is really nice. I love all the little details: snap-adjustable waist band, lots of pockets, storm placket. I needed another coat to wear as a back-up to my JC Rainy Day Utility (which I also love). The LEC coat is great for a light drizzle. $180 was a little steep to stomach, but I purchased the coat with a 40% off code, so I think it was worth it at that price. I took my regular LEC size and there was room arm movement with a sweater and tee. Looks so nice with denim...

I was also impressed with the Lands End Expedition Jacket (the one in the boys sale section). I purchased a Large for my DD (who will eventually pass it on to DS), but I was surprised that it fit me! I'm typically an M in perfect shirts at JC. The coat is a little boxy but frankly, for $50 (I waited for the sale price to kick in), for a down coat with all the features that this coat has (waterproof, hood with removable fur trim, pockets galore, cuffs with thumb holes), it's really a steal for anyone looking for a winter coat…and the green is a beautiful forest green too :)

  6. Dreadful experience with Bluefly customer service this week. I had requested to be notified when an item I was eyeing came back in stock in my size, and upon receiving such notification, I promptly clicked through the email to the Bluefly item page and proceeded to check out. Only after submitting my order did the dreaded words "final sale" appear. I am very familiar with Bluefly's website and normally when an item is final sale, it says so plain as day on the item page. This was not the case with the item I ordered, so I promptly contacted Bluefly customer service and forwarded screen shots as evidence that the item was not marked final sale until after checkout. Thusfar they are refusing to take it back, although I called last night and supposedly someone is looking into the matter for me further. Apparently they are very, very rigid about their final sale policy - I fully acknowledge that JC, by contrast, has shown me a lot of leniency with theirs, so I really have no tolerance for getting stuck with an item I didn't even know was final sale until I finished placing my order! Mind you when the dress did finally arrive after being lost in transit, adding to my frustration, it is the most horribly fitting dress I have ever tried on and I truly mean that. No wonder they wanted to stick some poor woman with that thing and not let her return it! However I am not a pushover so they will not have that kind of luck with me.

  12. Ralph Lauren Rugby is 25% Off, RUGBYHOME25

I found the Houndstooth jacket I really wanted, I like the colors better
    http://www.rugby.com/shop/item.aspx?productId=13136880&categoryId=3923439&cp=3138869

They also have a beautiful purple wool jacket that I am really tempted by and I'm not a purple person. It's just so pretty.

I also got a couple of their oxford shirts that have the adorable Repp tie lining under the collars.

  13. This is a bit off topic but I'm looking for a very high quality longer blazer in a brown/camel color. I am interested in this one by Ralph Lauren (which is also 25% off, along with Ralph Lauren Rugby).

Can anyone comment on the quality of Ralph Lauren Blue Label clothes or offer an opinion on this blazer? Any other suggestions for something similar?

  14. Ralph Lauren Blue Label is their second highest in quality next to Black Label. I bought a jacket similar to that from Ralph Lauren Rugby about four years ago, it had the same built in band in the back, it's timeless and every time I wear it I get compliments. Jackets like that are great with jeans, cords or wool and you can wear any type of shirt under it almost like a dressy outerwear, love it.

  16. Hi! Can anyone with a similar frame (J. Crew 0 tops, 0/26 bottoms)speak to how things at Ann Taylor run? I rarely do J. Crew petites but I want to make sure I wouldn't be a petite at AT (like how I am in BR). Also, if I'm a size 0 in the minnies, would I be a 0 at Ann Taylor for these? Any info would be super helpful. Thanks in advance! trestippy(at)gmail.com

    2. Tippy - I'm a size bigger than you but I generally find that Ann Taylor bottoms run about the same as J. Crew.

  18. I found a look alike bracelet almost identical to j.crew's pave link bracelet. I posted some pics and how to get it on my blog, http://pigtailsnpearls.blogspot.com/

  19. Does anyone have a suggestion for a more durable version of J.Crew's Tippi sweater? I'd love something pretty much in the same cut, just not so prone to holes and pilling.
