J.Crew of Seasons Past: {a look in the closet}

It's that time again, to take a look at an image of J.Crew pieces from seasons past! As caribbelle (in this post) so beautifully termed, "ye olde j crew of yore".

This post features the Toulouse Silk-Ruffle Jacket with romantic silk ruffle trim all over. The sweater meets jacket came in a 12-gauge wool knit, which meant it would last more than a few wearings!

As an aside, I love the model used for this look! J.Crew used her quite a bit in 2007 and frankly, they need to bring her back!

What are your thoughts on the look(s)/item(s) from the past?
Do you find the look(s)/item(s) classic or do you think they are dated?

  1. I agree the model is great and they should bring her back!
Love this one and I don't remember it, but my best things are from 2007, it was a terrific year at J Crew.
    Thanks for sharing Alexis!

    1. I agree - I'm bringing out the fall clothes this week and love to see my '06-'07 pieces, they're like old friends.

I've got almost a full garbage bag of '09-'11 items. :/

  2. Love it all...the model, the jacket, the ruffles! Sigh.

I really miss the way J Crew models used to look more "real" as opposed to the same models you'd see at a runway show. You'd think they'd want us to know how great the clothes can look, for instance, on a slightly older lady, like this model. She looks completely "age appropriate" but still youthful and fun.

  4. Must agree...2007 was a vintage year and like others, many of my favorite pieces/shoes come from that time. Have this sweater and it still looks new. Very much a go to piece. Love the models and layouts then too! Unlike now, wanted to own almost everything in those beautifully photographed catalogues. Thanks much for these posts, Alexis. Always enjoy!

  5. 2007 was the best year for J.Crew. I love to see this photo! She was a gorgeous model, I wish they'd bring her back too!

I have also been pulling out my fall clothes and just love my older J.Crew pieces. Some of my favorites are sweater jackets of this type in merino. They still look new!

  6. I have this jacket and still wear it several times a season. It looks cute over a navy and white polka dot silk blouse. Just the right amount of ruffle, the knit is sturdy and the quality topnotch.

  7. Love the jacket. Love the model. Love the quality. Really, this is exactly what appealed to me for decades from J Crew. Classic styling with a twist + reliable quality + gorgeous, yet natural looking models instead of the current throw away quality and trendy sometimes garish styling.

  8. I don't remember this jacket, but it's absolutely beautiful. I think I need to stalk ebay.

  9. Ditto all the love for the gorgeous model and the pieces from that time. I had not been a J Crew shopper before 07-08, but have been loyal ever since. The styling from the last couple of seasons and the fact that my kids will age out of Crewcuts in a year or so means that my attention is waning.

  10. I had this jacket in the factory version. Very French chic. It looks more flattering on the body, than the hanger, where it was sort of boxy and grandpa-like. Wore mine a lot and it finally pilled beyond any sweater shaver's help. Until I saw this page from the catalog, I had thought it was a factory-only item.

  11. Does anyone know if they have done away with the driving moccasins, or do they usually come out with these at some point during the Fall?

  12. It's a nice sweater but the ruffles make it look a bit dated IMO. I would love to see the multi-generational models and especially the group photos they used to have that looked like family gatherings.

  13. 90% of the jackets and blazers in my closet are '05-'07 J. Crew. I am so happy that I bought multiples when even I thought I was crazy. Still stalk eBay and this blog for colors and styles that I missed out on from these years. Now I'm adding this sweater jacket to my list. So cute! And this model was one of my favorites from then. She always seemed to have on something I loved.

  14. That model is Cindy Joseph..and she is a a great spokesperson for the older woman. She has a very simple line of skin care called Boom by Cindy Joseph. Google her, and watch her fun video series.
