J.Crew Email: It's a big deal: spend $150, get 25% off and free shipping!

J.Crew sent an email reminding us of their offer to take 25% off *and* free shipping on $150+ with promo code STYLE25. This offer expires Sunday, September 30, 2012.

this promotion! I have already taken advantage of it at my local brick & mortar (B&M) stores to pick up some pieces I had my eye on: like the Wild Side Wide Bangle (Item 34238; $68.00) in Saddle. The animal print is darling. The shape & style of the bracelet make it a classic. Love this bracelet!

It is so nice that it applies to both sale and full priced items. The only bad thing about this promotion is that it will end before the newest arrivals make it to stores and online. {sigh} Hopefully J.Crew will realize how great this promo is and offer it again (real soon!)

Will you be taking advantage of this promo at J.Crew? Did you pick up an item or two? Please share! :)

  1. I took advantage of this to get a cashmere LS tee and a jacket for my husband. It's a great promo.

I reviewed a few Factory sweaters and the cowlneck popover HERE if anyone is considering buying these items with the promo. The cardigans are OK, although they no longer have full length sleeves so the cuffs may get all stretched out as the fabric is 100% cotton whereas the retail versions have nylon and lycra for shape. The v-necks will be returned as the quality and colors were not what I expected. The cowlneck is a keeper, although the cowl is HUGE, but I like it.

  2. I was thinking about picking up a pair of the pixie pants (and a few other things). Has anyone tried these? What do you think? Worth the price? Are they more pant-like or just glorified leggings? Thanks!!!

    1. JenR, I swear by the pixie pants, but the are sort of like glorified leggings. They look more like pants because they have the seam down the back, but I mean, they are skintight so they also look like leggings. I love the material, it is a really thick, stretchy ponte. I wear them constantly with flats/boots and a cardigan/jacket. Some of my pairs are 3 years old and they still look new after repeated washings.

    2. I hated the Pixie Pants on me. Granted my waist is not my best asset, but the elastic waistband on these was not comfortable. I don't like tight clothes, so that's part of my problem with them. In the correct size, they were very tight. I felt terrible in these. I guess they probably looked fine as long as you couldn't see the waist, which dug in and was unforgiving. I wouldn't wear these if they were given to me for free.

    3. I love my pixies, have all 3 colors. I think they are more than a legging. The material is amazing & I feel they "hold" you in. Leggings make me feel like I'm almost naked but these look & feel great! I highly recommend! Btw, I'm 5'6 & take my normal size 4. Hope this helps!

    4. I've had two pairs that have lasted for several years. I sized down and bought the tall size (I'm 5'11") as they stretch a little bit. I use them as legging substitute with tunics or dresses. I agree with Jcrew girl they look and feel great. Well made too.

    5. I recently bought a pair of pixies -- loved the feel and quality in the dressing room. I haven't worn them yet but my intent is to get rid of the thin leggings I have that pill when I wear them with boots. I thought the elastic waistband was comfortable and I never met an exposed zipper I didn't love. I'm 5'3" and bought the Short.

  3. I haven't so far, but I am making my way to the B&M this weekend, so it's likely I will.

  4. I have the pixie pants from 2009 and they are more like jodhpurs than leggings, the material is thicker than leggings but the fit is just as bodyskimming.

The style is different on mine though, there is no elastic waistband and mine have the fabric patches on the inner leg that I don't see on the current online version, hence my comparison to jodhpurs. I don't like the exposed zipper but I cover it with something slouchy over top anyway. Very comfortable pants and have held up well so far.

    1. I loved the styling of the older ones, but the elastic waistband on the current pixies is MUCH more comfortable.

  5. Bought the sequined pintuck shell last night at houston galleria. LOVE it. It's high quality, gorgeous, and I'm wearing it now. Finally a Jcrew product I didn't mind spending $100 on.

  6. Have and love that bracelet Alexis! I've worn it almost every day -- it's so cute and goes with everything.

I'll be trying out a couple items and will review when they arrive!

  7. I have a whole bunch of stuff in my cart that I'm deciding between. I'll definitely be ordering the Excursion Quilted Vest in black, the Classic Ballet Flats in burnt sienna, and a couple more pairs of leggings. Basically everything that I regretted not getting with my 25% off cardholder order :)

I am still deciding on the Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater in heather caramel (I have the heather toffee from last year but love, love, love the caramel, and this is my favorite sweater), the Isabel Sweatshirt in navy (have some other colors from last year, and love), and a couple pairs of the Dreamy Cotton Stripe PJ pants (they come in a petite length!).

So happy to have another full price promo, J.Crew!

  8. I'm going to get the double-serge pencil skirt in heather acorn. I've been eyeing it for years, it's never made it to sale in my size and I know I will get enough wear out of it. I'm really surprised to see the retro jade one marked down to where it is, so I'm adding that to my order to make the $150 min (STILL too high IMO, harrumph!).

Has anyone tried on the linen blend colorblock stripe tee? It was the one thing that stood out to me in the latest rollout (I know, so odd) but I'm just not sure about it.

    TIA and TGIF!

  9. My order shipped this morning! Yah! I ordered the Blackwatch Slim Trench and the gold elephant necklace. I need another elephant piece of jewelry like I need another hole in my head, but what can I say? Anyway, I really want the coat to work! I guessed at sizing, I ordered a size up from my jacket size mainly because it's called "slim". I stopped by the store yesterday and really didn't see anything yelling my name. I may cruise the website again today, just in case I missed something.....I don't need anything really!!! I have my eye on a pair of Dior sunglasses ($300.00!) so I may get those instead of something from the crew. Hope everyone is getting lots of goodies!!!

    1. Lol! I'm in the same predicament as you...wait months to get what will still be an expensive grey polka dot cashmere sweater or buy a greatly reduced striped bateau sweater. Hmmmm...

Btw, the white bubble necklace is still hanging on a sale jewelry rack along with the elephant necklaces--both types and a triple pearl strand necklace with a pink coral floral thing attached. Call 317-848-2739 if interested. Libby is great!!!

    2. Recently bought the stripe bateau sweater in the cabernet/pink colour. Wore it this week and loved it so much I ordered the caramel/ivory one as well. I really liked the neckline and the 3/4 sleeves. The polka dot is a true crewneck and I don't find it as flattering on me, and it has long sleeves which I didn't want. (On the other hand, if you like layering over shirts, the polka-dot may work better than the bateau.)

Plus I bought the Old Navy polka-dot sweater last month and that satisfied my twee dot craving. But I never met a stripe I didn't like.

      Delete
    3. Ok, I left the comment about the polka dot sweater, but now that I've looked at the striped bateau that one is a little more classic. Love the caramel color! Maybe spring for that one and wait on the polka dot. (I'm not good about making choices... I'd get both! LOL)

      Delete
    4. I love the caramel striped sweater myself. It is a beautiful color.

      Delete
    5. I vote the caramel stripe, it's such a beautiful color in person. The black stripe is also really nice. Stripes have more staying power, I think.

  14. Sandra, I just received the polka dot cashmere sweater in poppy/cabernet this week (a SA helped me hunt one down -- found it in California!). I absolutely LOVE the polka dots -- it's a great sweater. I think the green one is currently one sale, but the other colors aren't. It's a tough call, both stripes and dots are great!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sandra--I *love* both sweaters too. I really love the striped cashmere boatneck, and with the 25% off the already marked down price (online), it's not a bad deal.

My solution was the get the black/grey striped boatneck and to hope and wait for the polka dotted sweater to go on sale.

Okay. I lied. I also bought the caramel striped sweater because I have nothing in that color and I really, really like the way the boatneck looks.

I didn't get the wine striped, hoping for the polka dot to go on promo/sale at some point.

I have no idea if that sweater is selling well. So hard to gauge. But that, anyway was my solution. Mind you--I don't have a lot of cashmere and I don't have a lot of JCrew (yet). So I was indulgent in my purchasing.

I did try on the other sweaters--the boyfriend and the nonstriped boatnecks and didn't like how they looked.

    ReplyDelete
  16. SAndra- I did the same thing! I like both sweaters and couldn't decide. Now that they are are sale and the extra% counts I thought"what the heck!'' I found the XS looks better in the caramel color and the S is better for the black stripe (I need something to convince myself I needed both!) I think I will wear them alot!

  17. I was thrilled to be able to use this promo. Italian tweed Ludlow blazer, black belt and a tonal blue botton down. All new arrivals all 25% off. Serious score as the Ludlows rarely are included in any sale or promo.

The tonal blue button down was sold out already but my rock star PS tracked one down for me. Not too sure where or how but she does it but she always comes through.

    1. I would wait. I cant remember WHEN, but last year, maybe january or february, I got the double cloth metro for like, $100. I remember I had lots of options that were on sale with extrra percent off.

      Delete
    2. Melissa, I am in the same boat and won't be able to wait until January. I remember the sale hannah L mentioned and I wish I would have bit then! I just didn't know what my needs would be. (sigh). Now the question is which one! I'm glad to have many reviews online to help. Then, which color? Probably a classic black or navy...

      Delete
    3. Depends on the color... some colors sell out fast, others sit in the sale bin forever. It's hard to know what will happen. The waiting game is a gamble because the color you like may sell out. If you can't live without it, I'd use the 25% now. If you can leave the tags on and not wear it for the 60 days return period (I think that's the return window for online/catalog purchases), you might see a better price and then you could return and re-buy.

      Delete
    4. Wow! $100 for the metro coat in Jan/Feb? That sounds like a great deal. May be I should wait too to get a coat, since the winter in Southern CA is pretty mild and I drive almost everywhere. I guess it would not make much difference if I do not have a formal winter coat at all.

Added bonus, if you don't like it you can return it in-store while you are there.

  21. I Purchased the Schoolboy blazer in modern red this promo. I missed out on the color last fall and regretted it. I preferred last year's fit and sizing but this year's fabric.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Has the schoolboy fit changed? I have a couple but wasn't aware. The original which I purchased a few years back seems maybe a bit more boxy than this years wool, but the fabric is also different in the wool flannel, maybe more stiff? . The velvet versions between this year and 2011 have the same fit I think.

      Delete
    2. Sizing definitely changed. My 2012 navy wool Schoolboy is a 2 while the 2012 I just bought has the same measurements and is a size 4. Also I never wear them buttoned up but this years seems more lumpy through the body when buttoned and is more fitted under the arms.

      Delete
    3. Sorry the above comment should have read "my 2011 navy wool schoolboy..."

    4. My VPS says the sizing has changed on this blazer this year. I prefer last year's cut much better. This year, I had to size up from a 0 to a 2 in the wool schoolboy. Boo! :(

  23. bah...great promo but I'm feeling burnt. I received a replacement double serge pencil skirt since the first one was too small (despite sizing up from my usual size). The replacement I received was cut even straighter and barely fit over my knees. And then the seam leading up to the waistband was totally curved outward! I'm returning it as well and will have to live without the lovely crimson maple colour I guess .

They've offered me a gift card for my trouble, which is awesome, but I'm afraid to buy anything now (and the only thing I wanted was that darn pencil skirt!)

Anyone have any feedback on the actual colour of the modern red blazer? Is it orange like the model shot, or more cherry-ish like the product shot?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. More orange than cherry red, for sure.

      Delete
    2. Why don't you ask a VPS to get you the pencil skirt from a store? They can have someone ensure it does not have any flaws before it is shipped out. I know they sometimes don't like to do the find it service on sale items but since you've had some issues perhaps they would. My old VPS would have done it but she has left and I haven't used my new VPS yet as there is so little I want.

  24. I have my sights set on the Colorblock Edie. Does anybody have thoughts on this? And anyone know if it's any cheaper in store? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've looked at that online, but my first gut instinct is that aside from the colorblock Eddie attaché in colorblock (in the tan/blk or burgundy colorblock color ways) the other ones would look dated quickly. It's a lot of $ for a fad. I'd rather get an inexpensive colorblock top or else reproduce "the look" via a top and bottom in color combinations I've seen on colorblock single items. Jmtc. It's just an expensive investment for a fad that I'm afraid would be over next year. Now if it was a cap toe shoe I think that would be timeless.

      Delete
    2. I have to agree with cms. Colorblocking is a very popular trend. Popular trends are usually the most recognizable as dated in a big hurry. I'd recommend to wait for a huge discount or get the most basic tan/black, or try to get the look another way, like using a different-colored shoulder strap from another bag for a shot of color.

      Delete
    3. I love that bag too, in the Tan/Black, and almost pulled the trigger w the last promo. But I also came to the conclusion that colorblock is having a "moment" and is going to look so-last-year quickly.

A bag in colorblock was too big aof a commitment for me because I don't have many bags, BUT I did get the colorblock perfect-fit boatneck in tan/black (only 29.99 now) as a consolation prize. Boy that baby has been versatile; I've made so many outfits with it and I won't mind if I tire of it after a season or two.

      Delete
    4. I got the Edie grand in black/tan mostly because the price was so awesome in store. I can't decide about keeping it BUT I would say it does not seem like a "color block" item in that black and tan (caramel) are just classic colors. The bright ones do seem possibly more "of the moment". The black/tan combo is $89.99 in store.

      Delete
    5. Margaret, I agree with you, I think classic colors are the key to "colorblocking" not looking dated. I am so drawn to quirky pieces that the bright colors appeal to me :-) Thank you so much for the advice, you J Crew/fashion savvy ladies!

    1. I owned the Tippi stripe in navy/turquoise. Overall, I like the sweater as navy/turquoise combo is refreshing when compared to the standard black/white. The turquoise color is brighter/intense in person when compared to the website. The fit is on the small side when compared to other standard J Crew sweaters. I had to exchange for my usual XS to S for this sweater.

  29. I'm thinking about ordering a suit for residency interviews with this promo! Big purchase, but I think now is the time with the 25% off. I'm leaning toward the Aubrey jacket and hutton trousers, but may end up ordering the 1035 suit as well and send one back. Does anyone have comments on the Aubrey jacket vs the 1035? The Aubrey looks more feminine and stylish to me but it's hard to tell just seeing it online. Also, does their suiting run true to size? And any comments on color? I'm leaning toward the charcoal pinstripe... Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Aubrey is boxier & shorter than the 1035, so which is more flattering depends on your figure. I hate the Aubrey, personally -- it's way too boxy for me. I never wear it buttoned because it just looks so big & unflattering (got one on FS awhile ago so I have to keep it). FWIW, I'm a 30D, 5'3", 33-25-34 ish. I find their suiting sizes are the same as their other items (I can't say that's TTS since their vanity sizing is outta control). I have the charcoal pinstripe, & I do like it -- versatile & professional, the stripe is subtle. However, a pinstripe is more memorable, so if you're needing the suit for multiple interviews, you might consider the plain navy (btw it's a true navy, very dark, not a French navy) or black so it's not as obvious when you re-wear.

      Delete
    2. also, IMO, the 1035 jacket looks better with the Hutton trousers than the Aubrey. The Hutton high rise + short Aubrey shows too much of the pant & looks unbalanced or something. Sorry if that's not a great description... I'd say order them all & return what doesn't work.

    1. I really disliked last year's version of the dream fabric. My Betsy sweater pilled like crazy (even the inside was pilling from rubbing against my bra), and left fuzzy bits on everything. I returned one of the Cambridge cables in the same fabric b/c it was shedding all over when I took it out of the plastic shipping bag. I can't comment on whether they kept the same fabric content from last year to this year. I have some much older dream fabric sweaters that are still holding up well.

      Delete
    2. I have one dream cardigan from several years ago that is holding up well. I purchased a dream pullover either last year or the year before and returned it after wearing it once due to massive pilling.

      Delete
    3. Of course I've got to chime in on this (see avatar!). The general JCA consensus is that Dream yarn is crap with a capital C. It pills like mad from rubbing against anything (pants, handbag strap, seat belt, other Dream sweaters) and doesn't hold any kind of shape, causing it to look baggy, pilly, and generally worn-out after 1 or 2 wears. The blend used to hold up better a few years back (maybe pre-2008?) but since then it's been a terrible disappointment and a waste of money. I cannot figure out why they keep bringing it back year after year. Like Linds said, Cambridge cables are the same awful blend so beware of those as well.

      Delete
    4. I returned the Cambridge cable sweaters too, they were a mess after one wear. All pilled under the arms and down the sides and sleeves. Even the front was pilling. There's no excuse for it, I don't understand why they are doubling down and churning out more this year. Maybe they think they have a different/better blend?

      Delete
    5. I will do a pilling test...and if it fails...off it goes back with a comment re quality....maybe someone does listen ? Thanks for the comments Carolyn from Vancouver

    1. Completely agree m. These are some of the most comfortable wedges I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. I hope that the comfort is not exclusive to the Collection calf hair because I just bought them in the nuetral suede during this promo.

  43. Purchased perfect shirt in black watch (I'm a sucker for plaid and love my perfect shirts), cashmere bateau sweater in chartreuse/kiwi color, factory professor blazer in red, & the inside-out fair isle (I am a sucker for fair isle..). This is my first "fall" purchase from jcrew.

  45. Code language/info still showing on the site as of 9:15 PST, but STYLE25 is no longer working. Promos used to go until 11:59PST, even though the language said 11:59 EST. I noticed the last promo was cut off at EST. :(
