JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

    1. I use a black tee (short or long sleeve - jean jacket over on cooler days), white blouse, cream, or navy. All play well. Navy stripes or polka dots. Tried them all and get compliments on the combos.

    2. shaxor - Try a lighter shade of green. Even a shade as light as mint might work. I would also try cobalt blue.

    3. I wear mine with purple. It's a surprising color combo, but it works!

    4. I second the suggestion to wear with purple, it's a really nice combo. I also find that nude/taupe/camel tones are very complimentary.

    5. A blouse in snowcat, leopard print, black & white stripes, navy & white stripes, the Tippi sweater in colorblock stripe to name just a few.

  4. OT: The Bubble Necklace is on promo in select colors this morning, as well as a few of the Collection Cashmere sweaters, and several other items. Updated promo list here. Also, the snake print pencil skirt has now moved to final sale and so has the invitation clutch in polka dot.

  5. FFM, I wanted to say I appreciate your promo updates, too. My schedule doesn't allow for extra JCrew perusal time anymore.

I just scurried off to check on the cashmere boyfriend sweater in bright azul. I'm hoping it's like the color from '07-'08, which I was only able to get in a painter tee. The bf sweater is not on promo but at least I know the newest cashmere is on the move down the pricing ladder. Thanks again!

  6. I'm going to a daytime wedding in New York next month. I was thinking of wearing my chiffon Sophia dress in spiced wine, which has been hanging in my closet since I wore it in a wedding a few years ago. What would you wear with it?

    1. Try gold/silver/sequined/beaded accessories. I haven't seen the dress IRL, unfortunately.

  7. Any suggestions on how to wear the Azalea necklace? Can't seem to make it as cute as the B&M associates. I also have it in the blue. I have been wearing them by themselves but wanted to snazz it up a little.

  8. Thinking of wearing the aqua floral allie dress to a wedding this weekend. I haven't seen it in person yet. Could I wear gold shoes with it? I am kind of at a loss. Also, what jewels should I wear? Just earrings? I'm thinking a necklace would compete with the pattern.

    1. J.CrewJD, I would wear nude sandals such as the Olympias with that dress. There are some specs of very light pink/nude through it. You can see the skirt in the same print here. HTH

I think just some fabulous earrings is all you need with that dress. Less is more, in my opinion.

    2. JCrewJD, I agreed on the nude color shoe recommendation. I also agree that all you need is earrings, or perhaps some bangles too.

I would prob lean toward gold jewelry, and rose is correct there is some light pink/nude in the pattern, as well as a gorgeous burgundy (I plan to find some burgundy/wine colored dangly earrings to wear with mine). HTH!!

    3. StylishlySpoken, thank you! That does help.

    4. JCrewJD - Yes, wear those gold shoes. That sounds really cute w/the print, which I've seen in the skirt irl. If you wear a necklace in turquoise or one of the colors of the dress, it has a good chance of blending in. Otherwise, basic earrings will be nice.

Are you on the Wedding Guest Tour or what!? lol

    5. gigi, basically, yes. Thankfully, this is the final bash of the year. But next year is going to be even worse!!! I am at that age, though. Late 20s = everyone I know getting married. At least J.Crew keeps churning out beautiful dresses for me to wear!

  9. I got the chambray shirt dress and I don't know how to wear it (other than the thick brown belt + muted gold jewelry + brown wedge shoes). Add leggings for fall? Help!

    1. Kaziz - Think of layering under. A turtleneck (print or solid). A striped tee. When it gets colder you can wear a layer under and put a cardi over the dress. Leggings would be cute, as you said. Tall boots, too. hth :)
