"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Promo not working and one thing I wanted popped back.

    1. It looks like 50% off select sale items not working anymore although the category is still there. Now only 25% off automatically apllied to shopping cart.

    2. Oh well nothing came off for me even after I signed in. I’ll wait.

    3. Same for me. nothing came off. I don’t see any advertising! I really don’t need anything! I been waiting on a cotton yellow stripe button down dress. I did buy 2 pairs of shorts on sale for &12.49 for me and my daughter! And Pink tunic! And navy tote for $25 as I need new bag and I was to cheap to buy Tory Burch that I like...lol...Sales are odd this year! They trying to get us used to no sale!!

    4. They stink. I did a chat and said last week it was 50 off but out of stock, now it’s in stock but not 50 off. I said with the pricing games and promo changes it stinks to be a JCrew shopper and it’s probably not great for CS either.

    5. It’s getting to the point that whatever I need I’d rather spend a little more elsewhere instead of deal with the ridiculousness. Same thing with madewell. There is a pair of shorts I was looking at and they were $34.50 earlier this week. I was planning on going to the store instead of order one item online. Today they’re $50. I’m not desperate and I’m not stupid.

    6. Yep - I am patient and cheap!!! Someone else on this blog said it first but it has stayed with me. 🤣😂

    7. Jcrew sent me two codes to same email address. One for 20% off and the other for 25% off. Tried it just for fun. Neither works. 🤣

    8. I got a code for 15% off. Since others got 20% or 25%, I won't be buying anything!

    9. I just got 15% off email (work email) good until tomorrow. Yeah, no thanks!

    10. I got 25% off - auto applied when I logged in,no code needed. Fine print says it’s only valid on items that are marked just for me, which in my case seems to be everything in the sale section. No bites from me though.

  2. Geez, everything is back up to full price and no % off sale or anything else. Very tempting J Crew, lol. Suz said it all -- I'm not desperate and I'm not stupid. :P

  3. I might be the lone wolf here on this thought, but I would prefer to have the old J.Crew quality and have them be less promotional. I still love my wonderful Italian shoes and other items. I would be happier with end-of-season sales rather than all of the various ups and downs of prices. That would fit into my goal of buying better but less.

    1. yep, def agree. I'd be happy to go back to the early aughts where you had the rare 1-2x a year 20% off. Or you'd get a catalog in the mail with a 20% off code on a sticker on the catalog front. If we could do that and magically go back to the old quality, sigh. (I seriously think those days are gone, as in no factory can/will do the quality construction of yore and same goes for fabrics).

    2. I actually agree too, I hate the up and down back and forth. I’d gladly pay more if the clothes would last
More than a wash and if they weren’t half
      Price last week.
I used to enjoy finding pieces end of season or buying something with the rare 30 off full price when it first came out if it was something I loved/needed.

    3. I might be on the short side of this conversation. I definitely want quality clothing and shoes (I have several of the Italian-made JC shoes) and I was not a fan of the constant price fluctuations, the magic hour glow or the back/forth discounts, but I wish that I had gotten one of those winter coats at $50 or $75, versus $125. It may not mean much to anyone else but I know the sale-hunter in me! I love a good sale any day of the week.

Maybe that is what JC is trying to get back to, offering the rare discount.

    4. We can't have both cheap and good quality. I am on MmeJacqueline's wavelength.

  4. When I go to J.Crew.com, it says "Sign in and take 20% off your purchase." There was no special code or anything.

  5. On the "vent" side, I bought a pair of the 4" inseam chino shorts (H5806), yuck. This year they went even higher with the rise and the fit on the backside was awful. I thought it was me and tried on an older JC chino short and they still looked/fit great. Now I'm searching posh and eBay for a pair of the mid-rise ones. I don't want higher rise shorts - I wear shorts when it's really hot out and don't want all that fabric on my middle and I don't usually tuck things into shorts, so a 10" rise makes no sense.

    1. I can't stand the high rise trend. Mid rise fits my body type and high rise does not work at all. J. Crew and Madewell have lost my pants purchases because they're all high rise. They have a few styles of jeans that are mid/9" rise, but almost all of the pants and most of the shorts too are all high/higher rises. They don't fit me. They bunch and bag and look sloppy and ill fitting on me. They really need to offer more variety in the rises. I used to buy quite a lot from them. Their Cafe Capris fit me perfectly and I'm thankful that I bought extra back in the day.

    2. Sometimes I wonder what they’re thinking. I bought mid rise jeans from BR a few months ago and I rarely shop at BR. Wouldn’t a variety of options increase sales? Wouldn’t this mean more money? I could be wrong but sometimes they really go all in on certain trends and ignore offering other options.

  6. Does anyone know if there are any promotions going on in store? I have rewards to use. Just an FYI: I was saving up my rewards for a big purchase and nothing has spoken to me so far. Unbeknownst to me some of my rewards expired as they were a year old. I want to make sure that doesn’t happen again and hope to make a trip to the B&M soon.

  8. This is not a vent (for once...although my espadrilles and 1-piece swimsuit are still not on a decent sale!)

    Please check out https://shopthelma.com/

I received an email that Thelma shoe company is going out of business and the shoe prices are great! This is a small woman-owned shoe company and the owner currently resides in SC. They only make footwear and the shoes and boots are very nice. Thelma loafers are still sold on JC's website as a 3r party seller.

    4. I should probably clarify my last post. The email I received suggests that the company was going out of business (Thelma & Louise goodbye) but it may be that it is only certain styles are no longer being sold. Whatever is happening, the "GOODBYE" promo is excellent as my shoes were free at checkout! Hopefully, they ship ;>)

    5. Free? How is that possible?I looked at a few but didn’t even see where to put the promo.

    6. The promo goes on the checkout page under the picture of your item in the discount code box. If the item is on sale, it rings out free; if it is regular price, the price comes down to $100. I tried buying 2 pairs of shoes but only one item is discounted. Not sure what is going on but it is working.

    8. I tried $388 item was $100, but $194 item was $50. I did not see anything else on-sale

    9. I’ll check again just for sh!ts and giggles. Lol. Nothing is in my size anyway.

  9. Rashawnda, thank you for sharing this! Even as I am trying to pare down my shoe situation, I am always up for a well made comfortable pretty shoe. Sizing info on this brand is pretty sparse tho. I have hard to fit feet, with very narrow ankles and wide forefoot so shoes that fit in front usually slip out at the heel, which I can’t stand. W/o reviews, I won’t risk loafers, but slides and mules are pretty easy to guess on sizing. I picked up a few pairs. ❤️

    1. Omg I have the same heel issue.

    2. I have been leery of the Thelma sizing also so I never ordered them even on the JC site. I have searched the WWW looking for JCA-like reviews (LOVE MY JCAs) but can't seem to find out much either. Given that FREE was my total, I am willing to take a chance. If they don't fit perfect, I haven't lost anything. Good luck to those who are trying them out for the 1st time, including me.

    3. How was it free! All is see is shoes priced at $388. Thanks !

    4. Rashawnda, I received my Thelma shoes already and they are WELL worth $100 (per pair). I ordered the mules and the slides and they are stunning. They remind me of m.gemi shoes but Thelmas fit my feet much better and are considerably more comfortable. I would say they run just slightly small -- I am always an 8 or 8.5, which is generally a 38.5 EU, but I ordered 39s and they fit perfectly. Hope yours worked out for you!

  11. Ordered a dress from Factory at my regular jcrew size and it's enormous! Instead of a midi like on the model it's Little-House-on-the-Prairie and not in a good way. I asked them to waive final sale and give me credit and they said no because they've waived before. I explained that it's ginormous and they were like "next time call us for measurements before you buy."

I'm not even asking for my money back - I'll take store credit! After all the money I've spent over the years (and very rarely asking to waive final sale) I'm really annoyed.
