J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    1. Yes, agree! And so many ruffles still.

    2. @jan, I Jan there are people that buy them it seems just not us. This rollout is so disappointing. Who knows perhaps they’ll toss something more attractive later this morning. Hope all is well with you

    3. @pbanos, must be robots performing for their designers who are in a catatonic state

    4. Nothing that interests me in new arrivals. Hoping for some more exciting Spring items next time...and fewer ruffles!

    5. @Lynn, agree it looks like program generated back-to-our roots look. Average color of the average garment with average dimensions = muddy colors and non-descript style.

    7. @Lynn, that’s true, there must be some kind of demand for all of those ruffles. Hopefully the next rollouts will be better. I wonder how long until we see the designs from the new leadership? I hope you’re doing well! All is good here, thank you. My kids are getting a little crazy before Christmas though lol.

@pbanos, the khaki colour paper bag waist skirt reminds me of what you’re saying. I wonder if this is still Chris Benz designs.

    8. New arrivals suggest J Crew is expecting most people to want leisure/loungewear for the foreseeable future. I like the cloud fleece in heather sky but nothing I would purchase right now.

In other news, I received red chains print silk twill top and pants. Fit is tts and color is definitely an orangey-red. Ordered pants in tall for extra length.

Silk twill popover in polka dot. Fit is tts. This is a nice top for work and/or casual. Can layer over red chains print top if you want to pattern mix.

Jungle cat print silk twill shirt. Fit is tts. I really like the pattern, but wasn't planning to purchase since I have a Drake shirt in a comparable pattern. But decided to order on super sale. Will be another option for Zoom meetings.

    9. how was the fit of the silk chain print top? Was it ok silk? I keep almost getting that one, think it would be pretty under a navy or gray sweater.

    10. I tried the red chain top in store awhile ago. It’s a generous fit, much more flattering than some of the other button downs I tried on but the color is not good for my coloring. It’s really orangey. I wouldn’t even call it a red orange or orange red, maybe a little coral? But it’s bright.
Too bad because the print is nice, if it was a more flattering color for me I’d get it.

    11. I ordered my usual size in silk button downs, so it was tts for me. I need room for “the girls” so buttons aren’t pulling. The silk is a good quality. Sale is 60% off in store, so a better value than online. Red chains print matches the polka dots in the navy silk twill popover. Description identities color as brilliant sunset.

    12. Mygoddy. I agree with your size assessment. I should have said other shirts I’ve tried this year run smaller on me through the shoulders and length wise. This one definitely had a nicer fit, more TTS

  2. Do you think tomorrow's discount (if there is one) will be better than 30% off? I have one item in my cart and it's still a little high w/30%.

    1. Perhaps. What’s the item number. I’ll see if my little birdie has any idea. I always check with her on this of sale and hear how much inventory there is in my size

    2. (AW671) It's one of the newer arrivals. I don't think there will be an inventory issue... I'm just cheap. ;P

    3. @MissJR, Me too big time. Will let you know after 10:30. She doesn’t come in until then

    4. Miss JR - I am also hoping for a better promo in the next few days...now that it's too late for holiday delivery they usually have some pretty good promos right before Xmas and of course in the days after. At least they did in years past.

    1. If they refuse to abandon high rise, at least add more mid rise pants. Why not a few full length options?

    2. Could we also drop poly tops and acrylic from sweater blends.

    3. Where’s the classic straight sailor pants???

  4. Ugh I visited my store for my umpeenth attempt to use my birthday rewards—not that I haven’t made any purchases but I couldn’t “combine” them with the $50 off $150, etc.

Not sure what they’re thinking three days before Christmas. No scarves, no pajama sets, socks... easy gift items.

Shoes? Basically only returns. Sale section, minimal. Cashmere, must have taken it off the floor.

What I tried, the red tartan flannel and the red Buffalo check flannel. Skimpy, skimpy, skimpy. Short shelves, short body, tight shoulders. The only size in the tartan was a 6 and it fit but I felt like I was wearing a little boys shirt due to the length. The Buffalo check one is a bit thicker and the 4 fit but meh. I was even wearing a fair aisle sweater from 3 years ago and tried it over it but I would have to keep the sleeves pushed up to cuff the shirts. Bla.

    Left empty handed.

    1. Hi Suz, thank you for reviewing the flannel shirts! I was eyeing the red tartan flannel but I’m glad that you’ve saved me a return.

I bought the pink Stewart tartan perfect shirt so I really shouldn’t be eyeing more plaid shirts since I already have a lot.

    2. Its not terrible but I find “not terrible” not what I want to fill my closet with. I have the black flannel thomas Mason button downs from several years ago and I paid a lot more for it. It’s not a thick flannel at all and it’s a little tight across the chest/shoulders but I much prefer the smaller scale pattern and if the red plaid was smaller scale I probably would have gotten it even though the fit wasnt great. The scarf in the same pattern, IMO, will get much more use from me.

    3. @SuzHas, I need to follow this as I’ve def added pieces to my closet that weren’t great on me and I just never wear them. I’m sure your Thomas Mason one is really nice. I only have one shirt from that collab but the quality is great.

    4. I talk a good line. 😆 trying to really listen though and not buy because it is cheap, etc, and really think about how I dress and what I wear. This year of course makes wearing real clothes even more challenging for me.

  5. I'm wearing the block heel leopard calf hair boots with a back zip. They fit well over skinny jeans, and are tts with good room in the toe box for my wider front foot. Can't believe the sale price I paid for these ($11 after my $10 JOY discount). The back zip works well, better than on my Roxies, and give the boots a clean look compared to inside the ankle zip. Perfect. I'll keep my eye on the same boot in black leather.

  6. A couple of reviews. Cashmere cardigan in pine. The cashmere is super soft and the color is gorgeous! It’s quite cropped on 5’10 me. Tried on with a button down and not sure it works (though I had jammie pants on so need to try with jeans). Really lovely piece just need to figure out how to style for my tall self. If I can’t style, I’ll return. Ordered my usual size and it’s slouchy but not sloppy.

Collection polka dot pajama top. It’s a beautiful print with a really nice quality silk twill. It’s slightly snug on my upper arms. Maybe it will loosen up, maybe not. It’s final sale so I can’t return.

Agree that the new arrivals are boring but I do like the ruffle front maxi dress (runs and hides, lol!!)

    1. @liztriden

Hope you can work out the cardi. I like to try things on with a full outfit including shoes (and for winter clothing a coat as well). Otherwise it's hard to tell how it will work in real life.

Thanks for the review on the collection top - now I know it is not for me with my muscular arms.

If you like ruffles, stand up and wear your ruffles!!! No hiding.

    2. @liztriden, I hope that the cardigan works for you. Glad to hear that the colour is lovely, it looks so pretty.
