This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!

The hunt for my perfect trench continues. I really liked the Factory bonded, but the color didn't work for me. Review on Gigi's Gone Shopping.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this, Gigi. Perhaps my inquiry belongs in the Other Retailers thread - has anyone seen/tried the Ann Taylor classic trench or BR double-breasted trench? I'm about to throw my prickly-shouldered Icon Trench out the window!
DeleteSilver_lining - I tried the BR double-breasted trench and didn't love it. The tabs on the shoulders are actually located slightly behind the shoulders which created a sort of hunch-back affect that was pretty unflattering. I have smallish shoulders so maybe it wouldn't be as noticeable on someone with broader shoulders. The photo on their website that zooms in on the shoulder shows the location of the tabs.
DeleteI did like the beltless design and also the removable quilted lining, but the shoulders made it a pass for me.
oooh, I had not seen the Ann Taylor classic trench, it's lovely! I was ready to try it out and it's already sold out in my (tall) size. I have a BR trench from 2013 and I like it but it's rather thin and I can't stand how most trenches have shoulder epaulettes. They are so useless and just add visual clutter.
DeleteAnthropologie has a pretty new trench in their fall roll out from Eva Franco, I love the raspberry color in addition to the traditional khaki http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/clothes-new/4133210690082.jsp#/
DeleteHow are you styling the Sunday Slim chinos? What shoes are you wearing with them? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have the terracotta color and have been wearing them with just about everything - tees, boyfriend shirts, probably with some Tippis when it gets cooler. Last time I wore them with woven/leather type wedges and the elephant charity tee but I bet they'd be cute with oxfords on the button up/sweater end.
DeleteThanks RJ! Great ideas!
DeleteI know we've been seeing white denim through the fall and winter styled appropriately but what are everyone's thoughts on wearing a white blazer in to the fall? I have the vanilla colored cotton Thompson blazer (so it's not stark white, just slightly off white) and I am loving the outfit currently featured on JC's landing page of the navy pleated skirt/navy sweater and white coat and was thinking of trying a similar look with the blazer. The blazer is cotton so I'm not sure it would be appropriate past fall but I would love to try and make it work - any thoughts? TIA :)
ReplyDeleteI think vanilla color is fine. I live in Denver and it stays in the 80s and sometimes 90s into September so I will be wearing cotton blazers for quite awhile still!
DeleteI agree LilaS and then we plunge into winter, in sometimes what seems like a couple of days.

DeleteI did not help J Crew revenue numbers today. Finally got my 8/19 order and promptly returned over $230 worth of crap. Sorry, J Crew you can send me a birthday $25 off $100 and 20% off purchase but you have to produce something I would actually want to buy.

I just got off the phone with a store and the SA told me they had 25% off everything in the store. I may have misunderstood but I bought a necklace and a shirt both with 25% off. Might be worth a try.
ReplyDeleteIts not 25% off everything.
DeleteIts 25% off toothpicks, select jewelry, sweaters, shirts, knits (except the garment dyed tee) and shorts.

Hi Ina - do you know if this promo will be in effect tomorrow?
DeleteSorry,i didnt ask how long the promo is in effect and i am not working tomorrow.
DeleteI posted some reviews of new items on my IG:
ReplyDeleteA new striped tee, new sweater with jewels on the arms,Majesty peacoat, flannel shirt in rockport plaid amd the boatneck ribbed sweater.
What do you think about the peacoat fit? I am waffling between it and maybe a lady day coat in olive. Thanks for the pics :)
DeleteI like the fit,it was nice and tailored. Not sure how tall you are,but depending on the height a lady day coat would be great for a taller lady (i am only 5 2").
Delete@Ina - Did your store receive a coat that's v-neck cut with at least 2-3 buttons on the front, in camel? I don't remember what name it was that J.Crew gave..but its almost like a car coat, but not that long...
Delete@JSR we have not received it (yet), but i keep my eyes out for it.
DeleteHelp!!! My husband - yes - wore my military popover shirt, then kindly washed it and dried it to it's near death; I was wearing this as a tunic - it's now a cropped length - ugggh! If anyone has one in XL that didn't work for them please let me know I will be happy to purchase from you!! Thank you in advanced, signed, Really??
ReplyDeleteFunny, the opposite has happened to me - my fiance washed and then hang-dried one of his wool sweaters that proceeded to stretch out to knee length on me. I wear it belted as a sweater dress now. LOL. Sorry for your military popover loss :(
