Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Some J.Crew-like items in my weekly 'You Look Very Familiar...' post here including alternatives for the No.2 pencil in Caribbean tweed, amie maxidress in engineered stripe, and Strapless Patchwork Madras beach dress to name a few.

  2. After trying the factory linen pants (which I liked) I ended up getting the BR factory linen pants instead. The price was better and while the linen is a wee bit thinner I think the drape is nicer. The waist is a regular band, not the jersey/elastic of JCrew version. I sized up one size from my J Crew pants in order to get a baggy beach pant kind of look and have been able to wash and dry multiple times with no shrinking and minimal wrinkles. They are very loose and breezy and an excellent sub for the J Crew version.

  3. Just received a lookbook for the new banana republic Milly collection that launches next week. I'm saving some of my $ since it really looks cute and I've got lots of rewards certificates.

    1. Oooh, thank you for the info. I did a little sleuthing and found the collection preview on the Milly site here. I hope it's mostly cotton and linen!

  4. Groupdealz has a lookalike of last year's Anchor Bead Charm Bracelet and necklace -- prices at $9.99 and $7.99 respectively. Haven't seen in-person, but looks pretty close! Deal ends today so hurry over if interested.

  6. Talbots - Sale items are an addtl 40% off. Note that the prices you see on the website already reflect the discount. No addtl amount applied at checkout. I believe 025281154 gets 25% off + free shipping on regular price items. It will work for free shipping (only) on sale items.

The ladybug slides I've had my eye on are now $36. I also like the port stripe pumps ($60) and the Finley patent sandal ($36).

    1. Note -- I think the code only works once, so think before placing your order. Or if you use the red phone in-store at talbots, any and all orders are free.

One more pick, the Faye colorblocked sandal ($36).

    3. JCrewJD - Talbots often has some really cute shoes. Many that I've purchased have been all leather, which is nice.

    4. Gigi, you're so right. So I just ordered two pairs. Darn it! But I recently ditched a bunch of uncomfortable, too high, or otherwise unworthy shoes, and needed to replace them... I bought the Bryn leather square toe pump and the Brina flower square toe pump in hot pink. The heel might be *too* sensible, but I'll judge that when they arrive. Free shipping pushed me over the edge... there's really no risk involved, and they don't carry my size in the store so it's not like I can just go try them on. Justify, justify, justify...

    5. JCrewJD - I love the heel on those. They're not too sensible. I kwym. You want heesl to look sexy or cool and these don't seem to be headed that way. Personally, I prefer a wider heel now because I still get the lift I want, but am comfortable. There's nothing less sexy than a woman teetering in too cheap, too high heels that clearly hurt her feet. The orthos are rubbing their hands together, waiting for all of the women that will soon be coming their way w/foot problems. I won't be in that group.

    6. ps - You can always return them to the store if they don't work out. Yay for no final sale.
