J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I washed my silk collar tee as per instructions, it came out fairly well except the collar was terribly hard iron flat again. Admittedly I am no domestic ironing goddess but still.

  2. Haven't gone to J Crew this week but I have a ton of Madewell reviews here, here and here

  3. Because there's no such thing as too many cardigans . . . I ordered the featherweight cashmere cardi in "Moroccan Tile" during one of recent promos. IRL the color is a muted blue with green and grey undertones, similar to the "warm mineral" color that was available for Jackie cardigans earlier this year. "Warm mineral" is a slightly deeper, brighter color. Fit and sizing of the cashmere cardi are similar to Jackie fit/sizing.

  4. I fell for the bucket bag, the experience has been mixed and is discussed here.

  5. I have the Wixon purse I bought as a pop-back recently and I can't decide whether to keep it. It is just a bit wide for a cross-body, and I already have a Marceau purse that is the same size and color. The Wixon zips closed at the top, whereas the Marceau doesn't but has a big flap that stays put pretty well. I like my purses to zip closed, though, and the Marceau is a happy exception. Does anyone have the Wixon? What do you think of it? (did it only come in the one size?)

Also, does anybody have a Cambridge Satchel Company purse from J. Crew? What are those like? I see there are two sizes.

    1. Hi cate: I own & love the metallic silver Cambridge 13" satchel from JC. It is the perfect size for an everyday bag for me & goes with most everything. I think the 11" size would just be too small as they measure from the outside. Also ordered the larger 15" batchel direct from Cambridge in red as a work/file/ small laptop bag. GORGEOUS! I get compliments all the time on both, especially the silver? They are a stiff/ structured leather w real buckle closure. They always look crisp, sharp and stylish :). Good luck

    2. I have a CSC 15" satchel and love it. It's the perfect work bag and a great value for the money. I've been wearing it almost non-stop for a year and it still looks great.

    3. EverydayChic & jennifer, thanks!! I think the 13" is the right size for me if I decide to order one. Thanks for the reviews!

  6. My "punk floral" swoop top tore after wearing it twice! And the section where it's sewed together lightly in the back is hanging together by a thread. Really disappointed.

    1. mine tore also.. in the back area where it's sewn together by a thread! i was going to exchange it for another one, but seems like it's a real quality issue..

  7. Has anyone tried the Factory Addision trouser in linen (item 41641)? They're machine washable, which is great, but I'm curious how much they stretch/shrink.

I bought 2 sizes and am curious whether to go with the smaller size (loose fit) or the larger size (too big).

  8. I received the seahorse print boy shirt in my usual size 0. Fits fine. Hidden mini buttons under the collar. The colour is darker than pictured and the shirt us 55% linen, 45% cotton. It felt really stiff and heavy on. The collar and possibly shoulder area are made of doubled cloth (ie 2 layers) and even though the rest of the shirt is not, the while thing felt stiff and oddly suffocating to me. My biggest concern, though, is that the indigo dye might run and splotch all over the seahorse a. There's a tag inside the shirt saying the indigo of the shirt might rub off onto light coloured surfaces. That's disconcerting.
I like the print, but if I decide against my better judgement to keep the shirt, I'll be dry cleaning it to be on the safe side.

    1. Beware of the indigo! I bought the painter boatneck tee in indigo and it had the same tag re: color transfer. I hand washed the tee before wearing and did not notice any color runoff. Wore the tee with a pair of khaki pants and the color did indeed transfer onto the waistband of the pants. I was planning to wear the tee with my new white cropped jeans so I'm glad I noticed the color transfer on the old khakis!

    2. Thanks, Shopalot! Yeah.. I am worried. Tempted by the motif, but also willing to bet that it will be spoilt if I ever wash the shirt.

    3. Thanks Shopalot, sorry for your experience. But I loved the painter boatneck and was tempted but was worried about the color transfer.

    4. maqsad: Thank you for the review of the boyshirt in seahorse print. Too bad about the possibility of indigo transfer. I was planning on wearing it with white, so you have saved me from placing an unnecessary order.

  9. Tried on a few new arrivals. Good news for some of us, the Camp Popover in Hawaiian Sunset and the Ikat Popover are longer than the J. Crew popovers have been lately. I liked both of these but not sure if they'd get much wear for me personally. Most of what I tried on didn't work out. The things I liked, I didn't like that much. Short-Sleeve Boyfriend sweatshirt was thick but soft and very boxy. Baja Embroidered Top in white was cute but sheer and a bit short on me. Wish I'd tried it in the chambray blue color. Everything wasn't out yet, and my store doesn't get Collection or some of the less mainstream items.

    1. thank goodness the popovers are longer. hopefully they will stay that way. they look so boxy on my when they're short

    2. I also found the Camp Popover in Bar Stripe (currently on sale) to be longer than usual. I had to pick it up in the store with the extra 30% off!

  10. I didn't make it in this weekend. I was thinking of going yesterday but I don't really see anything I want online. My VPS emailed me saying that this Thursday from 6-8 they'll be having some style session thing. Not sure how that'll go. It's at the Mayfair Mall in Milwaukee store.

If anyone wants to browse reviews, I've put them all together OVER HERE.

  11. A couple Factory reviews:

Factory version of the retail stripe linen open stitch sweater in Sun/Driftwood (wore it here): This sweater is gorgeous. I love the linen and open knit and the colors (yellow is quite bright). The fit is slightly large; I like it loose but if you want it more fitted you could go down a size.

Factory version of the linen dot popover (wore it here with the Factory cobalt blue no 2 pencil skirt): I was in love with the retail version last year that I didn't get and am so, so happy with the Factory version. The fit is great, quality is good, and it's a great piece that works as a fun neutral.

  12. Also a review of the retail boucle jacket in black/ivory colorblock (no blog pics yet): I purchased this with the last sale and it's really comfy and classy (I noticed it right away when I was in the store). I like that it's trendy but timeless at the same time. I'm always a medium in J. Crew but it looked small and short in the store so I went with a large, so I would definitely say it runs small. The sleeves are slightly baggy on me in the large but they look nice rolled up. I don't like that I paid $100 for it even on sale so I'm debating on keeping it or returning it and waiting for the price to drop (just afraid that it will sell out).

  13. Purchased the Eyelet Apron Dress. Found it to be TTS. Loved the fit, surprised how well it fit. Most J Crew dresses are too short in length and the waist does not hit me at the right spot. I am 5"9" and this dress fit really well. Can see it dressed up for an evening out or more casual with a Jean jacket.

  14. I finally received my Barbados dress and sadly it is going back. The dress is made very well, and the print/colors are lovely IRL, but the silhouette and length were not flattering on me. I ordered the size 0 and it was a bit too large in the top portion of the dress. If it could be hemmed without messing up the print I would consider trying to find a size 00, but as it is the length does not work for me.

  15. I just received the Jennifer Meyer Carson necklace and earrings. I will first say that i am a big fan of her jewelry and own several pieces. I was very excited for her collection with jcrew.
The earrings are going back 1st because they are too large/long for my shape face and 2nd because on one earring the place where the pieces hinge together sticks so the pieces don't swing smoothly. The Carson necklace is beautiful and a keeper. I bought the crystal color so it will go with more things. The brass does shine and I think it will be fun to layer with other necklaces. There are four rings on end of the necklace to adjust the length. The photo online doesn't show that. I think it's a special piece.

  16. I tried on the Factory Printed Cora dress in Bold Orange (last year's garden floral pattern) and really liked the print & silhouette - Real Life Photo of Factory Printed Cora dress
