JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I recently got a pair of the Saturday pants. I'm not a sweats or leggings wearer. I own neither but I like these and they are super comfy. How would I style these to wear out of the house without looking like a teenage mall rat?

    1. Sorry...I only wear mine at home. Comfy and I like them ( I have two pairs both in the darker of the colors) My feeling is only at home. Carolyn from Vancouver P.S Maybe just a quick to the grocery store !

    2. I have to say I probably wouldn't wear them out either. But mostly because they are so snug. You should check out A JC Shopping Habit Blog (link on side of this blog). She styled them really cute!

    3. I wouldn't wear mine out either, except maybe to go jogging or walking.

    4. I have worn my pairs of Saturday Pants outside the home and have received compliments! I think it is all how you present yourself.

I have worn a pair of the Saturday Pants in dark grey (and light grey) with a white button down and black 3/4 sleeve sweater. I finish it with a pair of black ballet flats and the black and white bow scarf. It was extremely comfortable and I thought it was quite stylish. :)

    5. I find that mine end up all twisted. The seam down the side never stays put and it makes me crazy! Whenever I where them out, I am pulling and correcting them the entire time! Does that happen to anyone else?

    6. Thank you everyone for your thoughts. I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one who feels uncomfortable wearing them out but I'm going to try those outfit ideas of your Alexis and Whitney and see if I like it. The only pair of sneakers that I own are for the gym, so no worries there. I got these pants to wear on the weekends as an alternative to jeans, something I could wear at home but would still look okay for quick jaunts outdoors.

  3. Re: styling Saturday Pants for wear outside the house (sorry, computer won't let me reply directly)... I have three pairs in different colors and have worn them to the grocery store, the salon, to the hospital for a medical procedure, and on long car trips (they are totally made for road trips, imo). My rules are to always make sure that my butt is partially covered, and never wear them with sweatshirts, tee shirts, or running shoes (Nikes, Brooks, etc.). Keds, Converse, and Tretorns are cool, as are ballet flats and penny loafers. On top, I either wear a casual button-down or a pullover/cardigan layered over a tank. HTH!

  6. How much do the Cotton Cafe Capris stretch? I just received the 00 and I am wondering if I should should size up. Just concerned they may stretch too much and become baggy. TIA

  7. Question:

I just purchased the Double cloth Funnel Coat via JCrew.com in a gorgeous red, but I am having trouble styling it for this cold winter weather (I live in Canada). Any suggestions as to how I can style it with a scarf or cowl would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

    1. Do you need a scarf with it since the neck comes up so high?

Different coat, but I wore my stadium cloth cocoon coat in Chicago. It has a similarly higher neck, and I was fine in the single-degree temps (with wind!) without a scarf.

  8. The coat hits just below my chin but I feel as if I'll need a scarf/cowl with this -15 degree (Celsius) weather. I'd like to make it more practical for the weather while still being stylish.
