Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Nordstrom Anniversary sale starts early online July 11th for card holders. Sale in store starts July 20th. Hoping the sale starts online at midnight PST - always buy back to school clothes at the sale for my daughter and in the past some items have sold out.

    1. It launched around 2am PST or so. They did a great job closing the site and reopening it, incl the early access link.

    2. Gigi, you outlasted me last night!

This morning though, found some really cute sweaters in the petite sizes. Check out the Caslon snap front long tissue weight cardigan and the Caslon drape neck sweater. Items ship now even though store sale is over a week away.

    2. Thanks Rosie! I got the navy beaded neckline top. It's poly but I tried it on recently and really liked the fit and the beading is very nicely done.

  3. Katie Homles wears a Madwell Chambray Dress:

Note: How sick am I? Ms. Holmes' life is in turmoil, and I thinking, "isn't that a new Madewell dress? Yes, it is!". I appologize for my superficial ways. I really do wish these people the best in the future.

    2. Lily, I think we can't help but notice these things. Katie seems to be a strong young woman and she will be just fine.

    3. Looks like she's also wearing the J.Crew Cece suede flats!

I've always liked her and I am sure she will do fine.

    4. Lily, if you're sick, then we can go get fitted for our straight-jackets together ;). Even worse? I did a blog post about it.

      TEAM KATIE.

  4. Madewell's new arrivals are pretty fantastic -- I especially love the Heartnote cardigans and the Duet dress. Free shipping on all orders through next Tuesday, the 17th, as well.

    1. I know what you mean. I was drooling all over the site last night.

      My picks here.

    2. In complete agreement with your picks! Very bummed the silk Dulcet top is now sold out on the website ... hoping to get lucky and find it at the Short Hills store!

    3. I like the new arrivals but I am ticked off that they raised the price of Duet dress from $98 to $118. I double checked the picture of the tag but when I tried it was tagged at $98. It is not a 'in-store' price, I actually checked in store and they were re-tagged at $118. Is it because response has been good? I know we've seen it before but it is so annoying especially since I was considering the dress. Now I don;t want to buy it because I am pissed.

    4. I just purchased the striped heartnote cardigan. I saw your suggestions and checked them out--I had to have it! It's the cutest sweater I've ever seen!! I'll provide some notes/review when I get it:)

  5. Banana Republic's "All Over Lace Tee" is similar to J. Crew's "Raindrop Lace" top. I think it fits better. The navy is very pretty.

    1. I’ll have to check that shirt out. And another good lace shirt from BR is the Pleated Lace Top. I have it in cocoon, which is the cream color. I had to size up, but once I did the fit was great and I’ve received so many compliments. The picture really doesn’t do it justice. Looks like they only have the tall and petite sizes left, but my store had a couple in stock recently.

    2. Txgirl14, I love the pleated lace top. I'm still seeing it in the stores as well.

  6. Gap has some new ballet flats...I am glad they brought back the non-scrunchy, more JCrew like flats. I still have my red Gap flats from two years ago--soft, comfy leather. I wear them to work all the time since I'm constantly standing and walking around (teacher). I'd give them a try since they are soft leather and only $39 smackeroos. I just purchased the simple black ones.

    1. nevermind--just received my pair--the quality is NOT at all the same as my GAP ballet flats from 2 years prior. rats!

    2. Meggers - Sorry they didn't work out for you. What was wrong with them? I was thinking about getting a pair. It looks like they run a bit big...unlike the city flats which run small.

    3. Hi Tweetle Beetle, Yeah, I oredered a 7, and still had a thumb of distance to the end of the shoe...I usually wear a 7.5 in GAP. I ordered the black pair, and the trim that appears black online is more of a chocolatey-taupey grey (sort of reads faded black). Also, the bow is more cottony than in the past and is sewn down very obviously on each side of the center. I'm still keeping them just because I really wanted a basic black pair and I don't feel like paying over $50 right now (saving for some wool pencil skirts this fall!), but you might want to order them with a grain of salt. They actually just posted some really cute loafers that I wish I would've seen pre-ballet flat! Hope this helps you decide!

  7. Hey, all, the Boden sale (on all items) started this last Sunday. I did a post with tips on how to approach the sale if you are interested or have never ordered during the sale time before.

A lot is selling out, I have never quite seen a sale like this where there are multiple items completely gone this early on...it appears Boden has found its market. That said, popbacks often appear, so keep your eyes peeled.

I have noticed that popbacks appear around 8 pm eastern time (which would be around 1 am in the UK), so if interested in a sold out item, check around then. :)

  8. I was really missing those beautiful blazers that JCrew used to put out and stumbled upon www.2PennyBlue.com I ordered the fuchsia linen blazer and it is gorgeous- both color and fit.

    1. I also just discovered them recently and am drooling! And saving up big time to buy one. Did you take the same size that you normally would in Jcrew?

      Thanks!

    2. Yes, please share....I really like the look of the Hudson blazer but wonder about sizing. Thanks!

    3. I usually wear a 10 Tall in JCrew blazers, so I ordered a 12. Shoulders and sleeves are good, but it could be more fitted in the waist.

  9. Madewell has free shipping on ALL orders.

  10. I saw a version of a chambray polka dot top at Anthrolopologie today for $88. Looks like a popover style and the dots are small, smaller than GAP's version.

    1. I saw that one too and thought it was cuter than the JC one. Neither one is for me, but if I wanted to get one, I'd go for the Anthro one.

    2. I myself ended up getting a GAP version, mostly because it was half the price as the Anthro and JC versions. Seems all of the shirts are flying off shelves rather quickly.

  12. Have we talked about the ON heart-print dress yet? The pattern looks similar to JC's heart throb...and didn't we hear that would also be available in black and white for the fall?

  13. BR just marked down nearly all its Trina Turk collection. It's now 50% off. The cardholder code BRTHANKYOU works for another 25% off.

  14. I just stopped at BR to pickup TT skirt I have been eyeing (and reviewed on my blog) and they have additional 25% off on the top of 25% BRTAHNKYOU. I had a $10 reward card and ended up paying $25 for both the skirt and Pia ponte knit tee that I once considered at FP. So if it is not too out of the way for you it is worth checking. their white cotton pencil skirts (very nice fit, size up one size from JC size) were marked at $24.99 which would bring them to about $14. I would get one but they did not have my size.

  15. The Zara summer sale is still ongoing and it's worth checking out, although be warned that all sale items are final sale. I got a pair of crazy printed pants which I am wearing with my Blousanna silk blouse from last year, and Valentina slingbacks (photo on my blog here

  16. Anthropologie - review of the redinha sandals ($49.95) in this post

  17. Boden has knocked down their clearance prices on a lot of pieces. Some really nice prices now. I'm giving the leopard twist sandals a try for $29.

If you have kids, the shorts and tees are crazy good deals, but are selling out fast. Boden is my fave brand for boys clothing.
