J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. The double-strand seahorse necklace pairs nicely with the No. 2 pencil in garden floral! See my blog: http://colorfulcorporate.blogspot.com/2012/07/double-strand-seahorse-necklace.html

    Thanks! :)

  2. Can anyone review the Neon tweed short-sleeve jacket, is it a real neon or just a few threads that don't scream at everyone ? I hate to get stuck with a bright neon jacket!

  3. I put a comprehensive review for Annette calf hair peep toes on my blog here along with tons of pics. Shoes just got reduced in price and are a steal considering it's a superbly made Collection piece. It's hidden on JCrew website so many have overloooked it. I also have tons of older reviews all grouped right here. Enjoy! Let me know if any questions.

    1. someone (besides me) posted that for the money it is awfully thin, I love twinsets for travel, so am hoping these pieces are around when my next reward card arrives. I've had so many buy/returns I can't follow the crewmath on rewards, so just hoping, is all.

    1. that weird bra zip corset thing was the reason why i returned my ella dress... if i can't do fasten it myself, then what's the point?! i can't rely on my boyfriend every time i need to get dressed in the morning!

  9. I just received my Ram Head necklace! WOWZA! It's gorgeous! It's the same blue color and my new Martina wedges in Casablanca blue. Thank you James, my VPS for finding the necklace for me!

  10. Stripe popover tunic (69236) - if it were possible for a top to be both very billowy and tight in the chest, this one nailed it. Definitely needs a cami/tank underneath. Can probably be styled up but not worth FP or the promo price, IMO.

  11. For those of you who were asking about the Sequin Jacket that just went into the Final Sale section, I posted a review for you on my blog here:

  12. Like a moth to a flame....I stopped at my B&M this morning. Still running an additional 30% off. Lots of tees and tops, shorts, a few no.2 pencils skirts, some dresses. I picked up ANOTHER Havana clutch, this one in the hot pink with orange patent. It's the same orange patent used in the Audra sandal. I have a serious weekness for wicker/straw handbags.

  15. AD MD....I just called customer service, which really didn't get me any answers. My order is in process. She couldn't tell me anything else except they have charged my card already. It takes long enough already cause I'm on the west coast. Geez.

  16. Hey JCAs, anyone done a review of the new gap polka dot shirt? How does it compare to the JC polka dot perfect shirt? I'm not near any b&m, so rely on reviews a LOT!! TIA

    1. I just received mine today (persuaded CS to honor the 25-percent code that was happening online, even though I located it at a store), and it seems nice, overall. I ordered my usual XS, and it wasn't nearly as roomy as I'd feared, after reading a couple of reviews. In fact, I thought it had a fairly nice, fitted silhouette.

My friend owns the J. Crew polka-dot chambray, and the fabric on that shirt is more lightweight, and the polka dots are much smaller and closer together. The J. Crew version seems more summery and delicate, but the Gap shirt has a nice, tailored fit, and will work well into fall, and at that price point (I got it for around $38 after the discount), I think I'll probably keep it.

  17. No review, but I just bought the GAP polka dot chambray shirt this afternoon. I love the fit but hate the pocket. I would size down if you like it fitted as the shirt runs big IMO. Hard to find these shirts, and they are sold out online, so if you see one, grab it.

    1. I love popovers! I just got the Camp popover in white and am giving it a thumbs down because the material is so thin it looks cheap. Maybe size up and wear it over a bikini?

    1. Interesting! Can't wait to see her stuff, but at the prices she's planning on selling at, I probably won't be buying a whole lot unless it's super amazing.

  20. I have a review of the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Deck Stripe in Tangier Orange and the White Bubble Necklace posted on my blog. For some reason, I can't link to the reviews anymore. HTH!

  21. I've been trying to keep up with the store prices vs. online prices getting listed by Gigi and FFM, but didn't see this one so thought I'd mention it. Today our store had the short sleeve sweatshirts for 29.99. With 30% off plus 15% off came to 17.84! Couldn't resist it - have been wanting it but couldn't justify another sweatshirt, but why not at this price?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Has anyone tried the Lexington patent loafers? Wondering how they fit and if they are comfy? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I made a visit to my b&m today. I also picked up the short sleeve sweatshirt, although my ps had to order my size. And I got the linen cafe trousers. I loved these when they first came out, but not their price. So much better at $39.99 plus 30% and teacher discount. I wanted the white cafe capris but they didn't have my size in store or online. My PS got them for me from another store even though they're on sale. He's the best!

If anyone is looking for the burgandy #2 pencil or purple minnies, the Charleston, SC, b&m had plenty. My b&m is now luxe, so I was able to try on the v-neck cashmere sweater. Can someone tell me why it has to be so long? The least they could do is offer it in petites for those of us who are short waisted. :) Pretty colors, but cashmere won't be worn here for many, many months.

New line is suppose to be out on the 25th. Our tax free weekend is the following weekend, so if I must have anything, I'll have them hold it for me. It pays to have a good PS.

  24. OT: There was a significant update to the sale section this morning. There are also some newly added Promo-priced items, and some sale items received additional markdowns, too (Schoolboy blazer in eyelet, swiss dot dress, and a few others). I've updated the women's Promo-priced items list and will have the men's list updated in just a little bit.

The women's updated list is here.

  27. Did anyone see the new kelly green bubble necklace in their store? I just saw it today!

    1. Yes, saw it yesterday - my store was putting out new jewelry stock (not necessarily new items?). Looked great on the mannequins with navy stripes, dots, etc.

  28. @Suzy - Thanks so much! I called and they don't have any left. Boo!

  31. Are the camp popovers in stripe (pink, navy, mint green) marked down in the store? They are on the website... I don't work again until the weekend but I would love to run in tomorrow and grab a navy one. My J.Crew brain is always on even when I'm not on duty... ;)

    1. I just went in store today to try on the popover and it was still FP in store. I ordered the navy through my PS!

    2. Thanks! My store does markdowns on Wed night, so maybe by tomorrow they'll be marked down... not sure. There are a few things on sale online that are still full price in my store, so I'll check tomorrow and report back. The navy one is so cute and was the only one that wasn't see-through on me! Ha! I love the mint and the pink but I really don't want to have to wear a cami under them.

  32. Has anyone tried/reviewed the Linen Cable-Knit Caftan? I tried doing searches but didn't find anything except it's price reduction info. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  33. Suzy, I tried it in a size small and it runs big (maybe two sizes too big). It was long, a straight cut & very loose in the body. The website description states it is oversized. I'm 5'-7" & it hit close to center thigh, not as short as the modeled image on the website.

It's not FS so you could still try it. Sorry I don't have more details for you. Hopefully someone else has tried it.

    1. I was just hopping on to give a review of this as it just arrived. I ordered a size xs one size down and it literally hits me at the knees. Im 5'5" there's no way this is the same sweater as the model is wearing.

    2. Mine arrived today. I ordered a large LOL! It is a dress! I am actually wearing it today, with a white knit drawstring pencil skirt. I need a belt, but it's def. not as I expected - you are SO right - NOT LIKE THE MODEL!!! ;D Just wondered if the one I got was mismarked. I really could have used a medium.

  34. hi ladies:

Has anyone seen the giraffe necklace (the latest version in the sandstone color) on sale in store? and the white bubble necklace?

And the 5'' chino shorts in the mint (
    daiquiri ice) color?

    Thanks,

  36. Just received the jayne t-strap ballet flats in the tan colorway. I am usually a 7.5/8 in JC shoes and took an 8 as they didn't have 7.5 in stock. Glad I did, they fit perfectly! Pleased with the quality and construction--leather soles and lining. Very cute shoe with unique styling, can't wait to wear this fall with some skinny ankle jeans!

Also picked up the l/s cashmere tee in royal blue. The color is very pretty irl and should be a good fall/winter basic.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oooh, I just got the retail-only ram necklace today (found for me by my online PS, yay), and I really love it. The navy makes it a bit more subtle than the other ones, and I can easily see wearing it a ton in fall/winter. If you can get someone to find one for you, with the 30% off, it's $63 and worth that.

  38. Weighing in on a vote. Who loves the Ultra Eyelete Pencil Skirt? I caught one on pop back in Navy and it has to be the most comfortable skirt yet for me. Im just wondering if it's worth the $89 I got it for (on sake- mind you. ) should I keep or return?

    ReplyDelete
  39. pathos - I love the ultra eyelet pencil skirt, but be careful the large eyelets don't catch on things. LOL, sake made sense to me, just thought you were at the sushi bar when you bought it via your iPad (see how quickly I come up with a story on your behalf?).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Lol! I do love sake and sales! The Ultra Eyelet feels like it could really stretch out because the Eyelete holes are so big. Just wondering!

  40. I found a new pearl necklace with matching earrings and ring at the J.Crew store yesterday that is not online. I immediately fell in love with the set.
I put a picture of the set on my blog

  41. Has anyone tried the Madewell postscript peep toe suede wedges? They are on sale... and I need the blue color. But I have no idea whether to order a 10 or 11. Which could be a huge difference!

  42. Has anyone seen the 'Oasis Green' color of the Edie Attache' Bag in person? If so, is it a bright Kelley green or is it more muted?

  43. I got the Kimono sleeve Maxi dress today and am torn. I love the top of it. The cut is exactly as pictured and as I have a small chest, it fits just fine. I'm sure if you had more of an ample bosom you might find this too revealing. The length is totally off and I suspect that the woman modeling it is 5'2"ish in order for the thing to fall to the floor. The hem hits me in a weird spot above my ankle, barefoot, that is not appealing. I hitched up the skirt to see what it would look like above the knee and I loved it. I could hem it to a short dress, either through a tailor, myself, or by cutting and not sewing (except the seams) since it is jersey (I'm leaning towards this remedy).
I'll try it on again this evening to see if I think it's worth it. The sweep of the top is what is making me consider it.
I'm curious to hear what Slastena thinks.
    I will

    ReplyDelete
  44. Whoops!
As you can imagine the price is what is detering me from keeping and altering. I can understand buying consignment/goodwill and slicing and sewing but not retail...
