It's Back! J.Crew's Final Sale {plus extra 30% off}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Wendy (in this post), as well as Brittny & Irina, who shared the following promotion from J.Crew this morning.

First, the bad news. The dreaded Final Sale (click here to shop online) is back. That means customers cannot return and exchange sale-priced items purchased online.

To ease the blow, J.Crew is offering customers to take an additional 30% off all sale items (no min) with promo code MUSTHAVE. This offer expires Monday, July 9, 2012. The fine print includes:
*No exchanges, no returns on items marked as final sale. Offer valid at jcrew.com and at J.Crew retail stores only. Offer is not valid at J.Crew Factory stores. Offer valid in US and Canada only. Offer does not apply to previous purchases or to the purchase of gift cards. 30% off discount applies to J.Crew sale and Factory sale online items only. Offer valid through Monday, July 9, 2012, 11:59pm ET. Savings are applied at checkout with code MUSTHAVE. Offer not valid on phone orders. Cannot be combined with any other promotion. Limit one promotional code per order. Details of offer are subject to change.
Words cannot express how much I do not care for Final Sale. I don't mind it when I make a purchase at brick & mortar (B&M) stores because I get to see (& try) the merchandise beforehand. (Not to mention, the price points are lower, making it more appealing.) However, it is a real turn off for online shopping. On a bright note, I think my wallet could use the break. It had been smoking (due to constant use) the past couple of weeks at J.Crew. ;)

Will you be checking out the Final Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get?

  1. Sucked in by the 30% off I got the Tillary purse in warm sienna, re-bought the Jackie in Warm Jade, and the Origami dress in decadent red. Fortunately the dress is promo, not final sale, so it's ok if the size doesn't work. Couldn't chance any shoes on final sale, though if the Martina patent in Casablanca blue goes signficantly lower than it is now I may bite.

  2. I do not like Final Sale at all either, Alexis! I have no plans of purchasing while it's back online, either. At least the Promo-priced items aren't final sale, but still get the extra 30% off, so if I take advantage of the promo it will be for one of them.

For those of you interested in what items are marked at promo-price right now, I have lists for both the women and men on my blog.

    *Women's Promo-priced items list here.

    *Men's Promo-priced items list here.

  3. FYI- not all the sale items are final sale! I (finally) snagged the Lucille eyelet dress and tiered dot tank for the sale price and they didn't ring up as final. The Jackie cardigan and viv flats did though. Depends what you want I guess! Good luck ladies!

  4. I've been shopping the Sale for several weeks so I have pretty much exhausted the selection at this point-lol! I seriously need shoes but can't bite on final sale. Will be trolling to hear what others scoop up!

  5. My credit card has been smoking these past few weeks too and I need to take a breather - there's a bunch of things that I ordered a few weeks ago that have dropped in price but now they are final sale. For the most part, I'd rather take the slightly higher price and have the option of returning than buy it final sale. I might order a few promo price items that are still returnable.

  6. I was hoping the Perfect Shirt in small gingham would go on sale online or Instore but no luck.

  7. Well I had my eye on a dress in the sale section but it wouldn't be very smart of me to buy it without ever having actually tried it on.
I haven't been shopping lately and now my ups bf won't be seeing me for awhile, we'll be taking a break! ;)

  8. I reordered a few things that weren't final sale since the 30% is a nice discount, but I don't have a B&M anywhere even close to me to try things on so it's very rare that I bite on final sale stuff. I agree with Louise-I'd rather pay the higher price with the option of return rather than be stuck with an item. Credit card needs to go in the freezer when I get home :)

  9. No final sale for me. I haven't been buying much J.Crew lately anyway. Maybe fall will be interesting.

  10. I got a couple of promo priced (not final sale) items -- the Saint James Galathee tee in blossom and celery for some reason are not final in XS, and the Minquiers III tee is also not final. I also picked up the green tessellate for $41.65 and the origami sheath dress in red for $110.60, which is great price for me b/c I prefer the petite sizes which are only available online. Was thinking about the bubble necklace, but decided to pass. I just HATE final sale!!

  11. IMO, JC can't even be trusted with size consistency in the same item - I bought the Tessa in both chili and flax (size 6) to try. The chili fit perfectly, the flax was way too tight at the hem. Glad I tried before FS kicked in. No final sale for me - period.

    1. I had the same issue with Summerweight Bermudas. Tried 2 pair in size 6 and one was perfect, the other was so tight I could not do them up. WTH?

    2. Yes. No final sale for me ever again. I just don't look so not tempted!

  12. I reordered two skirts that are hanging in my closet unworn because I knew they would go lower. It's the Front Pleat Skirt. Saved $14.00 on each reordering. They are on FS but I had already tried them so it's ok. I got the green Tessellate necklace because my stores never had that color and a Factory cardigan that oddly didn't go on sale. I think I've shopped this stuff completely out. Just waiting for the one thing I'm stalking to go on sale. Noticed the pom-pom top is on sale in yellow. My store didn't even get that color. I tried the white one....it's another square top with a high neck....not a good look for me.

  14. I hate final sale. I've had my eye on a couple of items waiting for a pop-back. But since I haven't had a chance to try them on, its too risky - can't order them.

  15. I can't buy anything because the website keeps crashing :(
Trying to get the viv flats but I have a feeling this is a bad idea anyway since I've never tried them on....but c'mon, J. Crew, fix your website!!

  16. No Final Sale for me ... I'm kind of exhausted from stalking the past few weeks :)

Will enjoy hearing the great buys of others. I must say ... even though it is 103 degrees in Chicago today, I am looking forward to some "refreshing" fall new arrivals. I love JC in the fall season.

  17. I'm planning to sit this one out too, other than re-ordering some swimwear I bought recently.

Has anyone tried the high-waisted skinny jean in adore me wash? And does anyone know how the fit compares to the New high-waisted skinny jean in night owl wash? That is, what's "new" about the new skinny jean? Also, is the sizing comparable to the toothpicks? (Not that I'm ever going to let myself buy final sale jeans or anythings...)

  18. Think I'm going to sit this one out. Still have a few tops with tags on in the closet grabbed from the in-store sale. Unless there are few interesting popbacks in the mornings........

  20. I hate final sale. I wanted to buy Kari dress in red but even if I have the black one, I am afraid the red might fit differently. I did buy the linen shirt and shorts on promo (not FS) and added couple full price items to try on and get free shipping.

    1. @ajc - the red of the red Kari dress has a lot of orange in it. I didn't care for the color on me. I much prefer the black Kari dress.

  22. I am with XOXO, no final sale for me. Even if I've tried something, the sizing inconsistencies are too common. For me final sale is a pretty good shot at being a waste of money. Also like XOXO, I'm not buying much J. Crew these days anyway. I've purchased some wonderful things on sale these past few weeks from other retailers, all at high percentages off, and all returnable if I didn't find them perfect. I didn't see much final sale at all when shopping other retailers, I wish J. Crew would stop doing it.

    1. Desert Flower, I'm glad it's not just me. I have hardly been on the site lately and bought only two things on my B&M visit while in the US, usually I have quite a haul to bring back to Canada. You are right, there are some great deals at other retailers and the ability to return is so important when shopping online.

  25. The Madewell in Bethesda MD is offering 50% off sale items. (final sale) They had several pairs of the peep toe wedges in green suede and patent nude for $99.99 before promo. I know a lot of people were hunting for the patent nude Martina's, these might be a good alternative. I sized up 1/2 size, like the Martina's. But I do have wider feet so I can't say for sure they run large or tts. They also had some skimmers at $49.99 before promo in the black polka dots, nude polka dots, and bright pink. However, I don't think their skimmer quality is as good as Jcrew, so I'm holding out for the Viv flats to go on clearance.

  28. I have a question about final sale. Yesterday, I was in store and I overheard a SA telling a customer if they didn't like something they could bring it back in for store credit. ReplyDelete
  30. AD MD-where did you find the viv printed flats?? Id love to find a pair!

Also, has anyone seen in store the raindrop lace top in navy in a 00 or 0? Live chat won't locate where it's a sale item and CS won't either :(! And it's sold out online.
    TIA!

  31. AD MD - My store has *on occasion* given people store credit (on a gift card) if they pitch a fit about wanting to return something final sale or something that is waaay past the 30/60 day return window. My store will basically do anything as a courtesy - we are more likely to do it if you are super, super, super nice/pleasant and explain the situation. Worth a shot!

  32. I knew it was coming and checked this morning, and sure enough ... :) I had seen a few things I wanted during free ship no min but decided to wait it out, glad I did.

As usual I don't buy anything during final sale unless I know it will fit. So I finally grabbed the linen cami in belvedere red, the fish-print scarf in silk/modal -- that print is just TDF! Three crewcuts tees for my son, the Amie maxi dress in navy/red stripe ($28 after discount!) and a purple whisper gauze tunic. Was really hoping the Marrakech swimwear would be on sale by now but no dice.

I'll be going to the store at some point in the next day or two to see if there's any new sale merch.

I called this morning and the rep agreed to credit my account with the 30% off. If not, I would have reordered and returned. Moths attacked my Talbots leopard print cashmere cardigan, so I was looking for a replacement. I absolutely love animal prints so I think this will get a lot of wear.

  49. Can anyone give me a real life review of the Tillary purse. It's really cute...but looks too small for a wallet, glasses, keys, lipstick, etc. Is it one of those bags you have to scale down your stuff to use? Also anyone have the Selima Sophia glasses? I'm looking at the Cerise ones....I wish the site showed them on an actual face!

    ReplyDelete

    1. it is small and I think you do have to scale down. I am able to fit my medium size wallet, car keys, iPhone, lipstick, pen, travel size hair smoother, work badge and sunglasses (without case), but I have to arrange them right and this is about the limit. Nevertheless, I do love it.

      Delete
    2. Love my Tillary, but it is def small. Had to buy a mini wallet for it, as mine wouldn't fit. Holds iPhone, mini wallet, keys (a stretch), slim lipsticks, compact. Love the cross body style, but if it gets overloaded, the snaps detach and it falls off (can be undone to carry as a clutch). An SA at my store saw mine, and told me she gave up wearing hers and uses as a clutch (it kept detaching). I would buy it again. HTH :)

      Delete
    3. I use the Tillary usually just as a going-out bag. For me the Tillary easily holds my 2 smartphones, cash and credit card and ID, keys, lipstick, a small pack of tissues -- I don't have a car and I walk or take public transpo or ubercar or a cab so no need for bulky car keys. FWIW, I haven't had a problem with snaps detaching and it's a perfect going-out bag for me.

    1. Stray Cat, totally agree on the Tillary. I've hemmed and hawed a million times about it - the colors are so cute - but I always talk myself out of it because I know that I really do need a bigger bag.

  55. I went to the B&M and asked the SA to adjust some recently ordered items to their new final sale prices--my $150 seahorse necklace became $60-something, and my dark peony havana clutch (which, by the way fits my cell phone and camera with room to spare and to which I sewed a gold chain onto on the inside so I can wear it on my shoulder during an upcoming trip) went from $68 to $34-ish. She didn't give me a hard time either! Love when this happens since my nearest B&M is an hour and a half away and has a small selection. Yay, 30% off!

  58. Hello! I'm relatively new to J Crew, but have been shopping there for about 4 months and I think I'm hooked. When is the best time to shop there? I think around the holidays they had something where everything was 30 or 40% off. Am I remembering correctly? Is that the best time to stock up at J Crew? I'm trying to plan my clothes budget for the rest of the year. :-) Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    1. Hi Christina,

I'm new to J Crew too--I've only been shopping about a year, but I've fallen in LOVE with it! I went back through some of the old posts, and while I might have missed something, I didn't see a full price promo until November 9, 2011 (I only went back to now). There were lots of 30% of sale promos between now and November 9, but that was the first full price one. I think it was a 25% off your $150 purchase. Kind of a bummer, but I hope it helps:)

      Delete
    2. I was looking through some old emails and saw that around Thanksgiving they do have promos with a minimum purchase. On 12/16/2011 they did 30% off your entire purchase in stores and online, no minimum.

      Delete
    3. Christina, the promos vary. The 30% off sale items or final sale items has been fairly regular/consistent. The full price promos have been another story. Marissa Webb was a designer that left the company. Also, there was a change w/the company going private. It seemed they couldn't cycle out her designs fast enough.

Some full price promos have run, but I wouldn't count on them to happen again. I think we've only seen one full price promo and that was for free shipping back in Feb. It's been awhile for a % off full price. I'm guessing they will want to keep it that way. I am guessing we will see no % off of full price unless things really aren't selling. However, I am only guessing and absolutely have no intell. It sure would be nice to have better cardholder benefits, but again, something else I don't hold my breath for.

  59. Hi Christina! Well the Crew has 30% quite often and this year it seems to have been pretty constant online and/or in stores. I'm no expert though....I'm sure there are longtime buyers here who can elaborate. And as for budget....umm...what's that? Every extra dime I get my hands on goes towards something J. Crew I'm drooling over! It's a bad addiction but you might still have time to run and save yourself. HEE!

    1. I know they have had the 30% off sale items, but I thought that around the holidays they had a promotion for 30 or 40% off anything in the store. Does anyone else remember that? Thanks!

      Delete
    2. Hey Christina! In the 4 years I have been shopping at J.Crew, they have not done 30% or 40% off everything in the store. They do promos on certain items, like for example 30% off suiting, 20% off winter coats, secret sale on cashmere, etc., or they do the 30% off the sale section. The most discount I have seen in-store is 50% off sale, which was probably in the 2008-2009 timeframe. Since then it's pretty much been 30% off. Online, I believe the most I have seen is 30% off sale. With some exceptions, prices are usually better in stores.

It seems to me that the best times to shop are probably June/July when they are transitioning into fall/winter and also after the holidays when they transition into spring/summer, because they drastically reduce prices to clear out stock. You will see lots of deals like you are seeing now. There are particularly good deals to be found on coats after the holidays, although if there is something you really want then it might be better to buy it around Thanksgiving when they usually have a coat promo because it might sell out before the new year. But it's a bit early to be talking about coats!

Anyway, that's been my experience. I hope it helps :)

  61. Hi Christina
they run sales all the time you just need to watch out for "final sale" things get marked down quickly so dont buy something as soon as it hits the sales floor, chances are it will go on sale within a month or so. I have made one full price purchase there in the last year.

  65. @Christina - Last year before the holidays there were some promos online for 25% off or 30% off (including regular priced merchandise) - for example, if you spent a certain amount you could get 25% off. I recall this because I bought a lot of stuff before the holidays for myself and for gifts.:) I know they've done similar promos the last two years before the holidays, hopefully they will again. 66. ruffles....about the purses. Sorry REPLY doesn't work for me. I snagged the Edie Attache in Italian Calf hair when it went on 30% off about a month ago. My stores don't have purses (or the odd one here and there) and I had never seen it. But one day I was in TJMaxx and a women in line had a Edie Attache. I recognized it immediately. She was alot shorter than me and I knew the size of it would be ok for me. It's not too big. I carry a stuffed Hobo wallet which I love cause it's like a clutch that holds my entire life and I can grab it and go but I also like to throw it in my bag, reading glasses and when it's really sunny sunglasses and all the other junk. I think the Edie Attache is a nice size for me and my stuff. I'm 5'9"....for reference. It's really not that big compaired to the HUGE luggage like bags I see women carrying. And I think it's very ladylike and vintage looking, which I love. I want the green one....when it hits sale...of course!

It's on par with other tweed jackets that were released recently. I saw it in stores further reduced, $119? Might be a fun jacket to own. I have plenty of tweeds so I passed. I bought the skirt version instead.

    6. Hi! I have the Polly popover. It fits tts--I took the size I always get in jcrew perfect shirts and popovers. I loved this when it first came out--I paid the full $98 for it (ugh!). Anyway, it's 100% cotton, but has a light almost linen feel to it. The colors are amazing--the peach is very saturated without being neon. I'd recommend it, I think it'll wear well into the early fall too. Hope that helps!!

  104. Went to the B&M at Smith Haven Mall out on Long Island. Lots of knits in the sale section and still a good lot of No. 2 pencils in a number of colors, plus double serge classic minis, at least one postage stamp skirt in big apple, and a handful of gondola stripe skirts marked down pretty low. Pretty sure I saw a Dizzy Anchors dress and some other Wear-To-Work type things.. No porcelain paisley skirts. Sorry, ladies.
I picked up a No. 2 in burgundy in a size lower than I usually get but the SA told me they stretch out a bit.. This is my first No. 2-- can anyone confirm this..? Also picked up some 3" chinos for $35 on promo.
Now here's the awesome part: 1.) The SA gave me the 15% student discount in addition to the 30% without me even having to ask! AND. They had TWO Ram's Head Enamel Bracelets, sale price was $50, then the 30% off plus the 15% off student discount and it ended up being $30. I took it! There's still one left but the SA said he might get it for his girlfriend so if you're in the Smithtown, NY area and you want one, you might want to hurry or else you may have to fight the kind man. =)

    1. Wow, that was so nice of you! Wish I had you working at my local J.Crew...I purchased the Tessa blouse a couple of weeks ago for my daughter at our local B&M for $29.99 minus 30%...I was disappointed they did not have my size, however that disappointment faded when I found it on the website in my size and color...the bad news was it was $69.99. I phoned the "contact us" and asked if they could match the price I paid in store...I was told to go ahead and order it, that they would make a note on my order that I could get price adjustment from my local store..long story short, it arrived, I drive 45 minutes to my local J.Crew store only to be told by the manager that the price in the computer is $88.00, no sale, no additional percent off...I asked if she could call or check the computer to see it was on sale on line or she could pull up my order to see that it was on sale...No, she was not willing to do anything except give me back my packing slip and said I could call customer service to see if they could assist...not impressed with her customer service! J.Crew can do better than this...

      Delete
    2. That is not great service... it takes 5 minutes to call the direct # and get answers from someone, do a price check, etc. Next time I would have an SA use the red phone/call the catalogue in store and order it for you to make sure the price gets matched. Sorry you had that experience. I know some stores are really weird/strict about doing price adjustments, but it is not hard at all to "return" something you purchased online, adjust the price, and "re-purchase" it in the same transaction (especially if customer service told you they would make a note of it). I think retail is a mixed bag... the customer I helped today told me that she had called my store earlier and had a debate with another SA on the phone over the necklace. The other SA had looked for it online but couldn't find it (b/c it sold out) and then price-checked it at $150 in our store and told the customer no bueno. But the customer decided to come in anyway and deal with the matter in person which ended up working out. A lot of these issues could be solved if they would work to synch up the prices online and in-store!

    1. LIzT - Yes, I tried the shirred maxi skirt. I don't have a full length pic, but at least you can see the fabric and get a general idea here. The waist is small & there i pleating the waist, which is going to be a tough fit for some. It was for me, even though I loved the skirt. The length and column style didn't work for my lifestyle either, although I certainly would've figured the wear-to-wear-it part out if the fit was there.
