Shhh! Extra 30% off J.Crew's Final Sale

"Thanks!" to many of you, including GigiOfCa & Mariana (in this post), lizzi43 & Muffy (in this post), as well as Melanie, Mia, Heidi & Julie, who shared the following promotion from J.Crew.

J.Crew is {secretly} offering customers to take an additional 30% off all sale items (no min) with promo code SHOPNOW. This offer expires April 13, 2012.

Not sure what I think about this secret sale code from J.Crew- is it smart or sneaky? Lastly, how much longer do we think "Final Sale" will last? In other words, I cannot wait for it to go away! ;)

Will you be checking out the Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get?

  1. I feel bad for those who do not know about eBates or your amazing blog Alexis. They are getting ripped off, IMO. It really isn't fair but I'm happy I am not one of them. I always check the comments here before I purchase anything, especially online. And thanks to Gigi & Mariana, I saved a ton on items I had previously purchased full price.

  2. Bummer! I placed an order this morning and knew about the 30% off from reading it here on the blog but somehow I missed the Ebates offer and didn't get that email until this evening. :(

  4. Nicole, many of us with blogs have posted Ebates signup as Free Money (I didn't believe it but it really is as easy as taking a couple minutes to sign up and then lauching all your online shopping through the site), see right sidebar of my blog. For full disclosure, we get something if you sign up through one of us. You also get a gift card or credit for signing up. The most difficult part is remembering to launch online shopping through it. But once you do, you will automatically get the best Ebates offer.

  5. Skipped the Ebate but did get the extra % off the pencil skirt I wanted so that's something.

  9. And yes, Alexis, I've done damage with this code [hangs head in shame]. I don't know what to make of this unpublicized promo code ... wondering whether it's unintentional or a way to create some buzz.

  10. I updated the list of Promo-priced items early this morning, and there were a lot of new items added this week. You can see it here on my blog.

  11. Well, I did major damage last week with the Canadian promo code, and now again this week with this hidden code! Craziness! (My PS was kind enough to adjust the price on my first order, so that saved a bundle.)

    ReplyDelete
  12. I am also wondering about these hidden codes... is this a new thing that's been decided on? First the Canadian-only last week, and now a final sale code that is not evident on the site.. I wondah! It's like they are codes just for us.

  13. The 30% off works but it's free shipping on orders $175+, not $150.

  14. Well, I have definitely done some damage with these two promos. Some very good deals on sweaters and shoes that I had been stalking. Stay tuned for some shoe reviews tomorrow.

BTW, ebates is launching a new toolbar that lets you activate whenever you're on one of their applicable sites. So it totally reminds you and you don't have to remember to go to ebates first. It's brilliant.

  22. I bought a few items in store the last weekend with no 30% off but returnable and there is nothing on the website that I have to have right now. I am going to sit on it and wait for the end of final sale.

  24. Not advertising the code is weird. Maybe they're trying to see if that there social media thing works. Or maybe there's some programming fluke that's not posting the code, but that can't be true because the sale section has updated.

Anyway, if you're looking for the fanfare shorts, Walnut Creek had 00, 0, 2 & 4 -- one of each of those sizes on Wed.

It's not my style although I do like the canvas\leather, and the red stripe canvas\leather, for summer. They're too big for my everyday needs so I wait and debate if/when I'm going to get one. The canvas/leather was also available this a.m.

  29. Louise, I found that the fabiola fits tts. Unfortunately, the pleating at the waist was very unflattering on me. When I tried it on in store last week (my b&m has tons of the leopard print on sale), the SA actually told me that the dress made me look pregnant! Sounds harsh, but I appreciated her honestly and it made me laugh.

  30. Has anyone tried the Hailey dress in floral jacquard? I just ordered it and already I'm skeptical... it looks stunning but I'm concerned about the sizing. All of the straight size Hailey dresses seem to come in 0 as the smallest size, and I'm wondering if they ever came in 00 and just sold out; if not, I think a 0 may be fine but I would hate to have shopped during a 30% off promo just to pay my tailor a fortune. I guess too big is always better than too small though.

Speaking of... how does the Teddie dress run? I just ordered a 00 but I could swear I've read comments that say it runs a bit small. Amazingly, I find that when JC dresses do run small, they fit me everywhere but my chest which is so weird because I'm pretty small chested (32B). Go figure.

Anyway, any reviews or help would be much appreciated!

    1. I found the Teddie dress to run small. My normal size felt like a child's dress... had to size up one.

    2. Agreed - I sized up one in the Teddie as well.

      Delete
    3. Thanks, J.CrewJD and Caitlin - I wish I'd asked before I ordered! Hopefully if it doesn't fit JC will agree to an exchange for size only even though it's final sale. I've had good luck with CS in the past in that respect (hope I'm not eating those words next week!)

    4. Really...I'm not showing the Teddie dress as final sale..hopefully not because I ordered 2 - 1 with discount and 1 without discount. :(

    5. BTW: I just rechecked and yesterday the Teddie dress wasn't final sale but today it is...so I can return it. :)

  31. It's not really a secret sale. It is advertised on ebates and shopstyle. Those 2 places I've seen so far. So maybe like Gigi said, they might be trying social media and testing channels. But yea. Over final sales and I am holding out.

  32. Wellll I was having a terrible morning... until I got 12 items for $160!!!! WHAT'S UP!!!! Thank you to the factory for clearancing everything out prior to the summer collection release next week! Forgot to use ebates, though... Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Just a word of advice - don't use ebates, use shopathome.com! 7% cashback vs 6% :) That helped me rationalize my order today; me and JC have been spending some time apart in recent months due to the quality issues.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I get so many stupid emails from J Crew but somehow did not get this one. That annoys me. Plus some items really need to be further discounted.

  36. I ordered some factory promo-priced items that are not FS (some really, really good deals) and one item I already tried on in store. There are a few other items I'm interested in but I haven't seen them in any store and even with the discounts, it turns out to be a waste of money if it doesn't fit and you can't return. So otherwise just counting the days til FS goes away.

  37. Anyone know how sheer the Polka-dot popover really is? As in would I need to wear a cami underneath? It is not final sale, it appears..

    ReplyDelete

    1. TXgirl14, it's not that sheer IMO. I just wore it to work today. It is navy and it's not that see-through.

      Delete
  38. TXgirl14

The Polka dot popover is a bit sheer, so I would wear a cami over it. It is made of the cotton/silk material so it is silky but pretty thin. Since it has a navy base, you can get away without a cami if you wear a nude bra. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  39. One more question. :) Anyone have the Raglan or Zip-front T-shirt dress? How’s the sizing and material? For reference, I took a small in the Maritime dress and 4/6 in pants/shorts. Is the material for these dresses as thick as the maritime? I’m finding this now too hot to wear, but don’t want material that is too thin or clingy.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've been meaning to post this over on the review thread, BEWARE the raglan dress! I ordered it in the navy and it is super super short, it barely covered my behind. I sent it right back without taking pictures, the material is quite thin as well, and a clingy actually. It is much shorter than the maritime dress which I have in an xs.
I ordered the raglan in xs as well, if you are going to order it I would suggest sizing up for length at least. I am 5'7" for reference, the dress could work on a petite.
That one went to final sale pretty fast!

      Delete
    2. Thanks! I appreciate the help and you probably saved me some money! :) I'm 5'3'', so the length probably would work since I like shorter dresses but I hate clingy dresses since I'm on the curvy side. boo final sale!

    3. TXgirl14 you are welcome and I agree final sale is the pits. I think it's really unfortunate that these fairly new items get sent to final sale so quickly!

  40. I bought a bunch of Crewcuts, some final sale, some not. Also, bit on the leopard patent Valentinas (hope they are TTS on me) and some tees to replace a couple holey ones from last year. I also bit on the Fabiola dress in blue. I may be kicking myself for the purchase, as my local store never got it, and I never had a chance to try it on, but I'm crossing my fingers...

  44. Hi! I've been eyeing the crochet lace front top FOREVER and am finally going to order it with this sale :) I don't know if I should get a medium or large though? Can anyone comment on the fit? I always get a medium from j crew but I've seen a couple reviews saying that this tee runs small. I also recently tried on the j crew daisy front top in store and it was small on me in the medium. I don't want want to order the wrong size in the lace front since it's final sale. Thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Erika, you'll want to go with the larger size in the lace front top; I actually went up 2 sizes. I usually wear XS and I got this top in size M, mostly for the length. It fits fine, not big or boxy in any way. Also, I think the tag says dry clean -- I hand washed & flat dry and it looks good as new. Hope this helps. It's a really pretty top.

  46. Has anyone tried the Olympia flat suede sandals? I'm tempted because they're not final sale, but I'm wondering if the suede sole gets gross after a few wears. And are they comfortable? So many flat sandals don't have enough padding, IMO. Thanks!

    1. I got mine last night in the "pink" color. Im not a fan of the suede material but I love the color and they are comfortable enough.(not much padding but not too stiff either) Will buy the red leather as well if they went on sale

  47. Apologies if I've said this before (I think I may have intended to but forgot), but now that it's 30% off time, I need to give a shout out to the Factory turtle earrings. They look quite a bit different in real life - more metal shows through - but they are absolutely stunning and have held up really well, unlike other retail jewelry items (I'm talking to you, carnation ring that broke apart the third day I wore you). I've probably worn the Turtle earrings 30 times, and at $16.50 with an extra 30% off, if you're already ordering I would totally consider tossing them in. I get so, so sad when I see items I LOVE languishing in the sale section (or in this case, on the Factory site).

And on the topic of languishing in the sale section, I just today pulled my fairisle sweater vest out of the back of my closet figuring, since it was chilly this morning, I could give it one more go-around before next winter, and I also noticed today that they FINALLY reduced it in the sale section from $54.99 to $19.99 which they should've done long ago! I bought mine in either late October or early November and because I was a student at the time, I ended up getting it for $11.89 on sale at my B&M. To see it on the website at $54.99 month after month after month was driving me crazy! Obviously not for myself but for anyone who wanted it or might have purchased it at that price.

  48. Hi JCA's,

I have the "price blink" addon installed on my browser. This addon basically searches for whatever coupons/deals are available for any website and displays them, so I never have to search for another secret coupon! So, if you open Jcrew website, it immediately displays the coupon for 30% off sale. This definitely helps me.There are several other such add-ons for different browsers as well, take some time out to read their privacy policies and reviews, it might help!

  49. Thanks so much Shopalot for your help with the lace front top! I'm so glad I finally got it, I got the large per your advice (thanks again). I'm stoked about this sale (and glad I found about it!), I was waiting for a 30% off so I could get some things I've been eyeing for a while: #1 was the lacefront top and the j crew maxi skirt in tuscan grape (in love with this!) I also got another one of the Factory Thandie sweaters (I have the pink and mint colors and love it) and the factory faded chambray top (been wanting a chambray top and this was a great price since the 30% also works on factory!) Finally the Natasha top, which I tried on/loved in store but didn't want to fork out full-price. There was only black left in my size but I think the black will be really versatile :) I also threw in one of the j crew ruched lido bikini tops (only $20 with the discount!) which gave me free shipping (so it really only came out to about $10). Yay!

  50. I stopped by my B&M and got the Olympia suede wedge sandals for $35! They had been marked down to $59.99 and they honored the 30% (not without telling me it was a one time courtesy *eye roll*) and the student/educator discount as well. The apricot mist were also marked down to $59.99 and I believe the Drea patent peep toe heels in coral, black, and leopard were $69.99 or $79.99. The store (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) also had a ton of Teddie dresses in black for $119.99 along with one in Casablanca blue in a size 00.

    2. The hutton trench pants were a disaster on me. Luckily I bought them just to try on before they went to FS, so I could return. I do not recommend buying these on FS because the fit is tricky. FS should go away in a few days so I recommend waiting to buy them. There are plenty still available so they should be around if you wait.

  56. Went to the crewlet today in Deer Park, NY. Just in case anyone was thinking about hitting up the B&M instead of online looking for better deals, I would advise you to save your gas monies and stay home. Even without the 30% off promo, right now the sale prices online are better than in-store. (i.e., the denim pencil online with the code is a STEAL at less than $14!! while in store it's at least $30 still, and the canvas exhibitor tote is going for $80 in store while online without code it's down to $40).
The only advantage is that there were more colors available and 40% off jewelry.

I contemplated getting it in a large, since the shell was still available in Medium, trying to "make up" my twinset. Thankfully the morning coffee kicked in, I walked away (along with too many items I don't need) from my laptop and saved myself from a potential FS fail.

    3. @ sam - Thank you!
@ Closet Crisis - Ok. I was wondering. Usually if an item sells out, you can still see that the color was available if no size is selected. Canvas is missing altogether. I was trying to get the store to match it and she wasn't seeing it online. Their computer system is lame. It should make information available to the employees even when it's no longer available. If they're worried about space, isn't there a cloud they can put it in? lol

    1. Katherine - Clea dress on Dani BP and on Rose.

I love the J'Crewlet skimmer pant. My only qualm is that the black seemed to attract a lot of lint. A lot. I wanted to return them for that fact, but they were so comfortable and fit well so I kept them. I just used a lint roller a couple times. I went ahead and ordered the beechwood on this promo. I love that shade because it's warm and not dull like some other tan chino shades can be. Here are some measurements:

      Size 4 waist = 33.75" hips = 38.75"
      Size 6 waist = 34.75" hips = 39.75"

      Delete
    2. ..also, they do stretch out during the day. I thought I should size down to a 4 for the beechwood, but thought against it. I need them to fit immediately when I put them on and the 6 does that for me right now.

      Delete
    3. Katherine- I bought the Clea in the deep pine and I love it! However- if you are sensitive to wool, you might find it itchy. It didn't bother me tho. I loved the cut, so elegant! I took a 00 which is my usual size but I am quite small busted and if I were any bigger I would have had to size up. It is fitted on the arms and bust. I have a average length torso and it hit me just right, not at all high waisted. HTH

    4. I got the Clea in Pine yesterday. It's snug on me in my usual size dress. I even got the bigger of my two typical sizes and it's still snug. :-( It's possible I've gained a few lbs., but even so, I feel it runs a little small IMO. Good luck!

    5. Katherine,

I tried on the skimmer pant last weekend. I was wearing my café capri pant that day by chance, so it was a good comparison. I’m a 4 in the café capri and had to size up to a 6 in the skimmer pant. I did fit into the 4, but 6 just looked better. I think the skimmer pant is more casual though that the café capri since the material is a bit more light weight (not by a lot :)). I think though, with the right top and shoes, you can dress it up for work. I’ll say I was surprised how versatile this pant was on and wish it came in some more colors.

  59. I got a couple of things on the Factory side with the sale — the sequin tank ($10 and change!!!) and the bazaar tunic in the sailor print ($27.99). The tunic is final sale, so I'm praying it fits. I probably should've called to ask for measurements, but I'm usually a medium in tops anyway, so I guess worse comes to worse, I can open the seams and re-sew it myself.

  60. Grr...I keep missing the only popback I'm interested in getting with this sale...The Double-Serge Hacking jacket in bright turquoise. Oh well--guess it's not meant to be? Not like I could wear it now anyway...

  61. Erika - I got the crochet front lace top in my normal size after seeing it on a blogger. It is so gorgeous I am thinking about getting more of them! I was a little worried the sleeves and chest would be too tight (sometimes happens with Jcrew tees) but they were not. This top is incredible.

Also snagged the honeycomb cable sweaters in mint and ivory. The mint looks dirty even though it is brand new. Oh well. It was only $16.

I also snagged the Aubrey jacket in super 120s at $149 (not final sale)- I sized down and it is a perfect jacket for petites. I need another black jacket like a hole in the head but I think I need to keep it. The matching cafe trousers at $68 are gorgeous as well. ARGH.

Anyone interested in a J.Crew wool crepe skirt suit (three-button jacket, double vents, and knee-length pencil skirt) in P0? I will give you a GREAT deal :)

  62. So last Thursday I placed a final sale order, right after a bunch of stuff got reduced. The next day was the OURTREAT promo and I tried to call and get a price adjustment and they were not very friendly about it and told me there was no such promotion.

I saw all the postings here about people getting PAs so I decided to call back and try again today. Lo and behold, they agreed to do it, saving me about $60! So if you're in the same boat - it's probably worth another try.

    Thank you J. Crew!

    1. Autumn,

So glad you got your PA. You're right, it never hurts to ask. If they say no, call back later and talk to another SA. That is what I did yesterday and got my PA!

    2. I was in the exact same boat as you, Autumn. I was so bummed that the promo of 30% off came on Friday, one day after I placed 2 orders. Called twice on separate days trying to talk to a SA, no luck in adjusting the orders. Just got set up with a PS and bam, no problem.

    1. If I understood your question correctly, you'd want to have a sales assistant use the Red Phone in the store to call online, order the shoes for you in your size, and they will verify the store price and online CS should match it. HTH.
