  1. I just wanted to point something out re: puffers. The current factory long puffer is seemingly identical to the 2009 regular version, which I own and which is super nice with knit cuffs that have a thumb hole, drawstring hood, and puffy filling.

I recently bought a 2010 regular J.Crew long puffer (to get a tall size) and it's horrible in comparison... flimsy, no drawstring, just feels so cheap compared to the 2009 version. I am really disappointed and will continue to wear my 2009 one even though the sleeves are a bit too short.

Without looking at the tag, I can't distinguish the current factory one from my 2009 one... it literally looks identical. So if you're in the market, maybe give it a try. I have felt the factory puffers (short, long and vest) in store and they are very puffy and plush feeling... really quite surprising quality for factory.

  2. Any thoughts on the factory colletta coat? would be $91 after 30% extra off.

  3. If I am a 6 in JCrew perfect shirts, would I be a small or a medium in factory?

  4. Please, JCA's, post now about any items you got from Factory that you love! How about the Sunnie skirt?

  5. Sale inventory on the regular site shot up to over 1,000 items this morning. I saw some fresh cuts, so I was able to grab a few more of the striped waffle shirts (one henley, one crew), the open dream cardigan sweater, which was $59.99 yesterday and is now down to $39.99 pre-discount). Also picked up a few other odds and ends, including the Cassis swimsuit top in my size (FINALLY) to pair with the matching bottom I found for $5 at the epic warehouse sale.

FYI for anyone who may be eyeing the sale-priced FACE Stockholm nail polish trio, the colors are really lovely, but the polishes are mini-sized! Maybe I should have looked at more closely in the item description, which does give the size in oz/ml but doesn't state that they are mini polishes, argh.

  6. Elaine, do you find the dream fabric itchy? I have a vague recollection of that being the case, but they bring it back every year and ppl seem to love it, so...?

  7. The Merino Boyfriend Sweatshirts are well made. I grabbed a couple of them in the store about a month ago. I took XS in those. Usually I am a size S in JC tops.

  8. charlottesometimes - on the J Crew size charts, a size 4 corresponds to a size 27 for pants/jeans/cords. That was not my experience! I am a 4 in J Crew trousers/chinos. I bought a pair of cords and a pair of jeans from Factory in size 27, and they were crazy tight. I would have to size up to a 28, maybe 29, for a good fit. Maybe I am missing something about how to convert between number sizing and inches sizing... but keep that in mind when ordering. Otherwise they seemed well made, but within 1 minute of trying on the cords (after 30 seconds of struggling to button them!) the knees were looking a little baggy. That didn't bode well, so I didn't reorder.

  9. charlottesometimes - also, I am always a little sensitive to wool, but I find the dream fabric to be awful. 100% merino only bothers me on occasion, but the dream sweaters always itch like crazy when I try them on. Sad, because they have so many options and colors of dream sweaters.

  10. lizbeck, good to know because I carry my weight in my stomach. I don't know anymore (gained weight) if I am a 6 or an 8 in Jcrew, so what to order from factory in terms of 31 or 32 totally blows my mind. I agree about the dream fabric, for such a name, they should make it soft! An the skirts, a 6, 8, 10? Ugh. I am 5'6" and weigh 155 pounds, if that helps, with almost all my extra weight in my stomach. Ugh. I was 128 pounds last January, this sucks. I'm having to rebuy an entire wardrobe.

  11. M-is it the double serge cotton or wool that "holds" you in better? Or do they both have that tendency? I know the number 2 pencil skirt in corduroy does that, it stretches yet doesn't BULG where your fat is, so it sort of works like spanx.

  12. Hey Charlotte, I actually don't, although I will admit it doesn't 'wear' the best over time. The underarms have gotten quite pilly on the 2 items I have in the dream fabric -- 2 of the huge open shawl-collar cardis from last winter. I always wear a perfect-fit tank under them, but I don't recall ever thinking that I felt itchy while wearing them.

So I figure if I can get something in that knit at a sale price I can live with, I'm pretty happy. :) But overall JCAs are not fans of dream anything, lol.

  13. CharlotteSometimes, I think you'd take a small in factory perfect shirts. I am usually a 6 in regular J.Crew shirts, and a small is plenty big enough in the factory shirts I've tried on.

The cords are nice, comparable to the regular cords. I can't tell a difference. I think some of the factory pants with the exception of denim seem to run a little small... I often have to size up in factory.

I am currently wearing factory matchstick jeans (not available online, dunno why) and I love them. I have plenty of denim from regular J.Crew too and it is indistinguishable to me. Factory is definitely a better value on a promo like this. I take the same size (30) in both factory and regular.

  15. Haven't bought much lately but here are some reviews:
Silk Camp Blouse...i've bought 3 factory ones so far and needless to say I love them. They are on the thin side but I don't mind wearing a tank, or wearing them underneath sweaters. TTS, go up a size if you want a slouchier fit.
Factory double serge bistro mini...TTS. I got the camel one and fits perfectly, love the color and it's not incredibly short. Nice thick fabric but not too stiff and it is lined so it is good to wear with tights. I am thinking of ordering the grey with the double stack promo.

  16. UPS just delivered my royal paisley pencil skirt! Here goes nothing...

  17. Holy cow, I can't believe it. The lady lace popover popback I scored a few days ago has actually shipped! I'm floored. I was sure my chances of scoring one in the 'soft dune' color were nil. Woot!

However, I am sad to see I was charged shipping after the fact, even though when the initial order went through at $141, no shipping charge was added. BOOOOOOOO. If I'd known they would tack it on, I'd have preferred to spend another $9 on merchandise and have it shipped free, grrrr.

  18. Charlotte, I am similar insize to you (and my weight yo-yos in a 15-lb territory) and I take a 10 in JC skirts. I can fit into some 8s, but I find that they're usually just a wee bit too tight in the hips for me to feel like they look good. I may soon just snip out all the size labels and be done with it. LOL.

  19. Wow, I was a 4 in January and now I am a 10, even a 12 might have worked. How depressing. Spanx here I come. I love the pattern of the paisley pencil skirt, I like to pull it up to be high waisted, but then the pockets on the back look goofy. Can decide if it's worth 73.50. Shopping is depressing when you've gained this much weight, I should probably stick to jewelry, lol.

  20. Elaine, thanks for commiserating with me. I think if I was proportionate I would not feel bad at all about being a size ten. But I'm not. I literally look 5 months pregnant, maybe I should embrace it and start shopping the maternity section. :(

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Elaine & @CharlotteSometimes:
Can I commiserate too? I picked up the blouson dress, but it didn't "blouson" around my middle. The "I just had a baby" doesn't work when the baby is 2!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lizzy T, welcome to the commiseration club! Hey, at least you HAD a baby! I simply had too many peanut butter m&m's.

  23. And then the Spanx website is making my HEAD SPIN. Compression level, mid thigh, camisole, panty, UGH?!?

  24. I'm desparately looking for the Heart Sweater (no where to be found online or inventory). The JCA is suppposed to be doing a store look-up and get back to me, but no such luck! If anyone sees one in L or XL this weekend, please post! Thanks!

  25. CharlotteSometimes, I didn't see your question about the Sunnie skirt. Here's a review. HTH

  26. LWilliams2011, I saw some last weekend in the Bellevue Square and UVillage stores in Seattle. Give them a call. The people at UVillage have been more helpful to me, in general.

Also note that the sweater looks odd if you are large chested. I tried the navy/green and couldn't believe my eyes what I was seeing, and I am not big at all.

  27. Rose, thank you! It's cute on you! And I was pondering the timber tweed skirt but removed it from my cart, but now I'm tempted again! :)

  28. Time for a little stalking to fill the stocking.

  29. LizzyT - I have the blouson dress too and it doesn't "blouson" on me at all. I think it is a misleading description because it fits me well everywhere else. But was kind of a surprise when it wasn't blousey!

Totally put in another huge order with this promo. . love that you can stack the promos!! I almost bought some short but then thought that was ridiculous to buy in December and I should wait until at least March. :)

I put a HEART ME SWEATER on hold for you at the local B&M store in size L in the Flame/peach color. Email me! They will put on hold until tomorrow close so maybe you could do a charge send.

  32. Elaine,
I orderd those same nail polishes and boy was I disappointed in the sizes. WAY TINY. I am going to return the as the price is ridiculous and the pink is neon and not as it appears online and hubby is heading to the mall in the near future. I don't dare go near one this time of year:)

  33. Elaine,
    TOTALLY OFF TOPIC:
I am a nail polish junkie and really picky. I tried the Sally Hansen Complete Manicue and wow. Never had a polish last and wear so well in my entire life. I bought so many bottles now. I don't think I will ever buy Essie or OPI much anymore....

  34. MaryMoo - I have experience w/one Factory coat. It's the boucle peacoat from a year or two ago. I can tell the quality is a little less than retail, but it wasn't significantly so. I like it and have worn it regularly. I wish I had more experience w/their outerwear, but I haven't even seen much of it in person to try on. Good luck if you go for it. :)

LWilliams2011 - Flame heart me sweaters at San Francisco Westfield as well. I didn't see your post till now so I don't know if they had the other colors in stock.

  39. Ugh, I just had the least helpful customer service experience I've ever had when calling J. Crew. I wanted a price adjustment on two Factory items I ordered yesterday, and she was just like, "Duh... we don't give price adjustments on previous purchases." I understand that that's in the fine print, but I know that most of you (and I myself) have had good look with price adjustments on promotions. Any advice? I think I'm going to call back to get someone else, but otherwise this is going to be a major pain. I'm going to just re-order the exact same items, plus something extra to hit that $250, and then I don't have an outlet by me, so I'll have to wait until I can get to one to return the first order. She was just SO unhelpful, and I've never been so frustrated with a J. Crew CSR.

    ReplyDelete
  40. @Lizzy T -- no "blouson" effect for me either! The dress fits strangely because the elastic is well above the waist but not quite empire. I'm not large chested at all but there's barely enough fabric above the elastic to keep it decent!

  41. Aficionadas Please ....
    - ordering from Canada and returning items...can I return factory items to the store at Seattle outlet ( I will have paid in Canadian Dolllars and paid canadian taxes ?)Is the better option to only return by mail
and pay the return shipping fee ?
On the site it looks to me like we (Canadians) always pay a flat $9.99
to ship and would have to pay what ever ups charges us to send back)Is it the same with the reg J.crew B&M'S ? Anyone in Canada have experince with returning? i want to order but am concerned because I really have to order everything in 2 different sizes because until I get to a B&M I am at a lost of sizing. Thanks in advance. Carolyn from Vancouver

  42. Hi, Carolyn--factory items can only be returned to a factory store or mailed.

We were out of town this weekend, and I was excited to pop into a factory store, but left unimpressed. No special promos except 40% off most items (seemed to mirror online sale) and extra 30% off sale (super picked over). Almost picked up the tuxedo shirt in blackwatch plaid, but noticed it had already developed a hole :/ Got the tartan tuxedo instead--will be cute under sweaters for the holidays.

  43. @Carolyn - re: returns from Canada- for purchases made online from retail (not factory) you can (i) return them to a b&m in the U.S. (In Canada, we still pay in US dollars so they simply refund the total cost including taxes in US dollars.) (ii) return by mail but you don't have to use UPS. I've used Canada Post but you would want to get a tracking number to be safe. I think Canada Post is cheaper than UPS from Canada to the US.

I try to do my returns in a b&m in the US if I can time it when I'll be at one. Some stores get confused and say you can't return orders from Canada in a b&m but you definitely can. I just did it last month. Plus I called customer service to verify because a couple of weeks ago a store told my sister that you couldn't.

  44. Dear Aficionada,

I live in Taiwan, I'm a big fan of Jcrew, I always purchase Jcrew items online for years, pay by credit card in my country, offer the states address ( my friend lives in CA ), then my friend sends my parcel to my country. Well, weeks ago, Jcrew.com provided 25% off, I purchaed some clothes and three Belstaff bags ( 556x 2, 554x 2 ). Days ago, I got my parcel, as usual, I checked the item status, I noticed one of Belstaff bag 556 is "made in Bulgaria", rest of my 556 and 554 inner tag appears made in Italy. I sent a mail to Jcrew, told them this situation. The explanation they gave was: "the bag is still made in Italy, probably Belstaff tagged the wrong place of production." The explanation is unaccetable!! Now I'm wondering where is the real place Belstaff mad their products? It seems could be anywhere, China, Bulgaria…. Whereever they made, the last job they need to do is -tag it a " Made In Italy " tag before they sell it. How do you this about this, dear Aficionada? Jcrew promised me return the faulty 556, but now the bag is in my country, I don’t know if they can pay me full charges regarding international shipping fees, I'm still waiting for their reply….
