This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.
Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

ReplyDeleteIt's almost time to store my Marled Thandie Blazer, I know many JCAs own one, what are you pairing it with?
ReplyDeleteLauren - I wear mine with striped tissue turtleneck, black wool pants and ankle boots all winter. Kept me very warm up here in the northeast.
ReplyDeleteHi ladies! I need some help with styling the Linda Cord dress as seen on My Superfluities here: http://mysuperfluities.blogspot.com/2011/03/j-crew-paris-catalog-inspiration-1.html
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try wearing it with a shirt underneath or a cami, but this is the first red item in my closet and I'm a little lost on how else to wear it other than boots and a tee underneath. Thanks!
Momo, any time I ever wore that dress, all I did was punch it up with brightly colored shoes. I know, so original...but then again I am not the best stylist!
ReplyDeleteI am happy to report that I scored the perfect pencil skirt in Cinnamon Stick for ...... wait for it...... $5 on eBay last week! I mainly bought it to wear with the contrast-stitch perfect shirt, which I have trouble styling. Any other ideas? I'd like to wear it a few times before it gets super hot here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great deal, Elaine! I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteLauren, I live in Florida, so sadly I already packed away my marled Thandie blazer, but it got a ton of use this winter! One of my favorite outfits is black heels, black skinny jeans, and the sequin stripe henley in quarry (silver-gray color). I always get compliments on it and it's the perfect outfit for going out on a cool (but not cold) night.
Elaine: WOW! Awesome find! I'd like to hear some ideas about styling that as well. I got one from a fellow JCA a while back and still haven't worn it because I'm not sure about color pairings.
ReplyDeleteThis is bit premature, since I don't actually own it, but I love the new windowpane trench. Thinking I'd wear it with a khaki skirt, but any other ideas?
ReplyDeleteElaine, that is an amazing find, how fortunate!
ReplyDeleteI wear my cinnamon stick pencil skirt with the Jaipur paisley perfect shirt, the papaya and dusty blush Maya cardigans, last year's marled cardigan in heather rosewood, the stamped paisley tee in both colors as well as very pale pink, coral, taupe and ivory/white tops. I have a really bright purple sweater that works well surprisingly well with it also.

Hi Ladies,
ReplyDeleteI need some help with the Belmarin pants in mink (the brownish color) I originally purchased the white and they were sooooooo see through. I dont normally wear brown, but I like the relaxed linen feel of the pants. Any suggestions on what to pair it with?
Thanks!
Marled Thandie set here.
ReplyDeleteElaine, wow, congrats! I have the skirt as well though I paid 10 times what you paid... which is still cheap enough for me! Man, I love eBay sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI also wear it with bright purple... like the bright dahlia color. It looks awesome. It also looks good with bright blue. If you don't feel like wearing two bright colors together... well, I am not of much help. I have those spectator mary jane heels from 2008 in a butterscotch color (probably similar to the Maya in the amber color) that I love to wear with it as well. So anything in that color family works too. Oh, and honey glaze!
Ptarone, I too purchased the Belmarin in the brown color - love them. I purchased the white eyelet tunic and the pink retro shell the same day. I like both of these with the brown Belmarin. Today I wore the pants with a dark green (can't remember the J.Crew name) boat neck tee and topped it off with a solid pocket cardi. Very casual "have to run errands then go to the field hockey field" outfit :)
ReplyDeleteHope this helps. Would love to hear what you come up with too.
Does anyone know the name of the clutch in the picture heading this thread? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you Pansy, Catrina and Rose! Wonderful ideas. I wish the blazer was a bit less "stiff". Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me how the swim suits run? I an a 00 or a 0 in pants and a 0 in skirts. Would I want the XS or XXS bottom?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am a 30C on top and usually an XS... would 32B be the way to go? Are they all going to just be too big? I want one of the strapless styles.
rawr! I bought these adorable shorts two summers ago. Bone and navy blue wide horizontal stripes. It matches Nothing! I need a pro J.crew stylist. It doesn't match white, and navy shirts are TOO much navy. I'm thinking of adding in another color, like chartreuse- but it doesn't feel right.

Melissa, try bright pink or honey glaze. This is what I wear with my starfish shorts which have similar colors.
ReplyDeleteMelissa-
ReplyDeleteI think any bright, saturated color would work, especially if tucked in. Nothing too long because it will interfere with the stripes.
I agree that a coral pink color or maybe a teal would be great.
Melissa Jade: I just answered this same question in last week's post.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest a bright solid colored crewneck tee, button-down shirt, or a bright solid colored polo to wear with the shorts. Orange, yellow, bright pink, red, or kelly green would all work well. J.Crew doesn't have much in the way of polos right now, but Ralph Lauren has a bunch of them on sale: Classic-Fit Polo.
Another option is to wear the J.Crew Contrast-stitch Perfect shirt with the shorts if you have it. If not, numerous JCAs have recommended the J.Crew Factory End-on-End Camp Shirt as a decent alternative.
You could also pair it with a floral shirt that picks up the color of the stripes in the shorts if you like the mixed pattern look.
Hi all!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for ideas on what to wear with the lunette mini in melon. I've tried it with plain black and white, but I'd love some ideas on a more exciting look -- especially now that spring is approaching!
Thanks!
Momoberry, I think the Linda dress would be super cute with a collared blouse underneath, tights, and Gibson heels or something like them. It wouldn't exactly be a spring look, but since the dress is corduroy and red I think the spring options are kind of limited. But a collared shirt and regular shoes instead of boots would lighten it up a bit.
ReplyDeleteSusan, how about this outfit with the Organza dots skirt in melon as inspiration?
ReplyDeletethanks for the suggestions girls! I'm definitely going to give it a go on our first 70 degree weekend (how long must i wait!?) The first attempt will be with my j.crew chambray shirt (similar to the camp shirt mentioned) and then I'll play with solid colored crew necks until I see a color blend I like.... THEN I'll try mixing my navy gingham boyshirt button down with it.
ReplyDeleteYou're all awesome!
Hey guys,
ReplyDeleteStill working on my graduation outfit! This is what I have so far. Can't decide which shoes to buy, I want cute, but sensible, and also something I can get a lot more use out of. I love oxfords, but do you think they will be in for another season or so? I don't want to buy them right before the "go out". If not the oxfords, then my other favorites with the Juliet or the Bronson. I'm so indecisive...
Allie, I think those Langfords are good to go for several more seasons. I say that because of the overall appearance, not just that they're oxfords but they have a non-fad heel and thin platform. I think the two tone Langfords have an especially long life. I think the booties are in danger of going out soon. The Juliet pumps will probably last the longest.
ReplyDeleteTamara,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the input. Honestly, the oxfords are my favs! I'm just always so afraid that once I spend money on something, it will go out of style. Oxfords are kinda classic though, and like you said- these are not the "trendy" oxfords sold at many retailers.
Thanks for your input!
I also feel like high quality shoes that don't have any particular fad elements are particularly long-lasting, and the two-tone Langfords show off their quality, I think. The look retro too, which is always cool. That's a great shoe. I feel the same way about my Odeon oxfords.
