The email features the Jaspé Jersey V-neck Tee (item 13260; $36.00) which is described as:
Your search for the ultimate wear-with-everything tee ends here (and we've added new colors). We use a twisted cotton yarn and a special knitting technique to achieve this highly sought-after vintage, heathered effect—simply put, this is not your average tee. It's one of our designers' favorite ideas—and from what we hear, it's gaining quite the fan base. Tailored fit—a slimmer fit that looks like it was made for you."Thanks!" also to hdnb, the blogger behind the {great} Hotdish & Bars blog, who shared the following super sleuth find: "I was wondering if you received the email this morning from J. Crew advertising the men's Jaspe tee. This is totally fluff, and actually irrelevant to the product itself (which feels really nice in person, btw), but the model himself sports a couple of forearm tattoos in the catalog that are missing in the email rendition of the photo." To view side-by-side images of the model with (& without) tatoos, refer to his "Missing Tattoos and Other Musings, J.Crew Edition" post.
What are your thoughts on the Men's Jaspé Jersey V-neck Tee? Do you like or dislike the style of the tee? Do you think that it has a good starting price point?
I know the Jaspe fabric is very comfy and this tee looks comfortable & versatile as well. When it's an item I'll wear a lot, I'll spend a little more, especially under the $100 mark.
ReplyDeleteI'll be curious to see what the guys think!
My hubby LOVES his long sleeved pocket polo in this fabric. I will probably pick up the short sleeved polo for him, but guess what... I may get this for myself! This fabric is so soft and most importantly -- NOT TRANSPARENT -- haha
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they get that we don't want see-through t-shirts? Especially light colored ones!
ReplyDeleteI thought I would never pay $36 for a tee (actually, when the Jaspe tees first came out last year they were $32.50).
ReplyDeleteSo of course, I bought one.
The another. Then a Jaspe long sleeve henly.
They really are nice. Maybe not worth the full $36, but they feel great.
I love the jaspé fabric, but something about its swirly pattern and clingy texture was very unflattering on my [imperfect] midsection.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who is interested, there is a hidden Madewell necklace on sale on JC's site - Item# 27347. Was $98, now $78 plus the extra 30% off (through tonight).
ReplyDeleteAlso, the tailored contata blazer (22964) is on promo to $165 (from $168?) so the 30% would likely apply if anybody is interested.
ReplyDeleteit's kindd of expensive for a tee but i purchased it for my bf and stole it today for a lazy sunday :) it's not see-through.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very soft fabric and right on trend. I do prefer the old-school gym grey style t-shirt. Found some really good ones at Urban Outfitters. It's more subtle and not quite as pronounced in pattern and just as soft.
ReplyDeleteIs the majority of JC's men's line slim-fit? It seems so. It's very Euro/hipster looking, probably influenced by the men's designer who is European. Distinctive but probably not appealing to many "average" guys, expecially the muscular ones who need room in their clothing.
ReplyDeleteCass-
ReplyDeleteThey are definitely swimming in the slim and slimmer end of the sartorial pool. And you're right, any guy who is really athletically and muscularly built are probably going to find the jackets and slimmest pants too snug fitting.
I bought an Aldridge jacket (versus the "Modern/Slim" Ludlow version) thinking it would be roomy enough for my athletic frame and it was still a bit tighter than I would like.
But they do have a nice compromise for the "average" guy in the Classic Cut line of pants. I'm no young, tall, rail model so am not into the super-skinny look but I'm glad to get away from the whole relaxed, wide-leg, boot-cut pant that has dominated for so-too long. I'm under 6' tall so wide legs only make me look shorter.
Any of JCrew's pants in the Classic fit seem IMO to be the best slim-type fit especially for any guy who has muscular legs like a soccer player. The fit is not super skinny and not too loose and a great way to update the wardrobe with a more modern silhouette. They make my nice old work khakis I bought a few years back look like wide potato sacks!
I managed to snag one of the Jaspe polos on the 30% off promo for DH. The after-discount price was $13.99 down from original $45. I really like my Jaspe sweatshirt so I hope the mens tee fabric is just as soft and comfy. Not crazy about the blah gray color but sometimes comfort trumps style.
ReplyDeleteok so this isnt about the tee its more about the model.
ReplyDeletecant really find out what his name is. a little help please?
OT - I'm trying to use the HCK97M free shipping code today (2/1) and it's not working. Any ideas?
ReplyDeletepicked up a jaspe tee last year but unfortunately doesnt do it for me. i have a muscular build and it's just way too tight. looks like im trying to be he-man or something.
ReplyDeletesome, not all, items have really been geared toward the slimmer guy, but there's still other items to offset this. the buttonups and sweaters have been accomodating.

ReplyDeletei've been wondering the same! i don't really recognize his face in other print ads or runway shows...so my guess is he's new(-ish)...of course, i could be dead wrong...keep me posted if you hear anything otherwise tho!
I don't know why exactly but I always found Jaspe tees cheap looking. then I realized the fabric has actually very rich character. well explained here http://filadora.com/term/Jaspe now I love it. the look depends on the person wearing it.
