J.Crew Stores: Email Sharing Promotion {it's back!}

A big "thanks!" to Marietta (in this post) who let us know that J.Crew is bringing back its e-mail campaign today to get customers who have not shared their email address, to share it. :)

When checking out at the store's register, J.Crew asks for your email. J.Crew will offer a card stating "10% off your next purchase" if you share your email address. The card is valid until 3/29/09.

I think the code is a great incentive to get customers to share their email. :)

  1. OT, but does anyone know why some of the items from the spring collection eg. the sara dress and the lattice camilla dress have been put into final sale so quickly? do you think they're defective in some way?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Anon @ 12:16
I doubt they are defective, they probably just have a lot of inventory of these particular items. I believe Mickey said that the spring items had been ordered before the economy "downturn" so they were going to have extra inventory.

  3. They finally changed the homepage. I'm sorry, but I'm tired of seeing the model(name?) caress a bag.

  4. When I saw the lattice skirts and dress went on sale I was secretly hoping it was because of the sizes... I had to go from an size 8 to a 10 YAIKS! me no likey! anybody else with that issue? Or did I really receive some extra padding?

    ReplyDelete
  5. The last time they did this, I was told by the SA that the card could only be used on Full Price items...I wonder if it's the same this time?

  6. Totally OT but can someone advise on fit of Claudia heels? My crackles fit large but I've heard the suede run small...

    ReplyDelete
  7. OT, can anyone advise about the size of the patterned Ingrids? I'm thinking of buying them on the website, but don't know if they fit TTS? I have wide feet, should I size up?

    Thanks!

  8. I just got an email about a J.Crew factory store. I posted the email here

  10. OT & kinda wierd: Do any of you have to size up in JC flats, but not their other shoes?
All of my JCrew heels fit really well in my normal size 8. But I've noticed that my ballet flats are snug across the ball of the foot in an 8.

    ReplyDelete
  11. dani, I agree, all my JCrew flats are different sizes. My Lulus fit well in a 6, my Cleas are a little loose in a 6, my Beccas were too big in a 6 so i had to get a 5.5 and then when i found some penelopes in a 5.5 they were tooooooo small.

So yes, I agree all those flats are cut differently and fit differently so it makes it worse when you're trying to buy them online and FS.

  12. The wool flannel wrap dresses are marked down awfully low right now. Does anyone know - are they TTS for other sizes, and do they look nice? (And are they work-appropriate?) On the model, of course, they're gorgeous, but that doesn't tell us much.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The professor (I think) posted a while ago about the wool flannel wrap dress (sorry, I can't find the post right now) in response to my question about it. She said she absolutely loved the dress and that it is very professional, but she usually wears a cami or something underneath it because it is low cut. I totally agree that $39.99 is a great price! HTH

  14. Duh, I'm duh. I meant to ask about the CORALIE suede heel. Does anyone know if the fit is TTS?

    Thanks!!

  15. FFM - I checked the card, it says 10% off is valid only on in-store purchases. Discount cannot be combined with any other promotions and cannot be applied to previous purchases or the purchase of gift cards. Not valid in factory stores. So, I would think the 10% off applies to both full priced & sale items....

  16. Anon 8:52am-
I bought the patterned Ingrids in a 7 and I am normally 6.5. The 7s are a little bit loose for me which leads me to believe that they are TTS and would fit someone who normally wears a size 7.

I also think I read in the TJ Maxx 2 post that someone else said they run TTS.

    HTH

    ReplyDelete
  17. hmm...I tried on the solid Ingrids in the store in my usual 8.5 and they ran a bit big. I just ordered a pair of the patterned in an 8, so I really really hope they fit!

  18. there is a rose tee available, quick, someone grab it! (97428)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anon @ 8:52, Emily & Kat - I purchased the pattern Ingrid peep toes, and found them to run big. I am normally a 6.5, and I had to take these in a 6.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ahh...thanks Marietta! That makes me feel better!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anon at 10:31am-it was actually the "Sieze the Day" tee that has the same item#, not the rose tee. They were available in every size and color though.

  22. Does anyone know if the Crackle-metallic Mary Jane heels run true to size? I'm thinking of getting the metallic sherbert color using the 20% (it's the only color available in my size). Also, if you purchased these did you really like them? I've been 7 1/2 or an 8 I just want to make sure I order the right size. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Also wanted to mention, the 17th & 5th b&m had a lot of the lattice pencil skirts on sale for $49.99, both in the honey brown print, as well as an orange print (a color I did not see being offered online).

    ReplyDelete
  24. OT - Considering all the shoes showing up at TJMaxx for greatly reduced prices, what should the initial price point be for these shoes? Personally, although I have some very expensive shoes and boots ($500 is not uncommon for my shoes) $228 for shoes with synthetic lining and soles and sometimes shoddy workmanship is ridiculous.

I bought the crackle-metallic mary janes for $149 less 20% (or was it 30%) and that was reasonable. I would expect J.Crew shoes to be priced around $75 - 125.

What do the rest of you think?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anon @ 10:59-- I totally agree. If they were to put in some cushioning and maybe thicker soles on the flats, I'd be totally willing to fork over for FP.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon 10:55
I bought the crackle mary janes as a christmas present for someone in her normal 7.5 and they fit perfectly. They are gorgeous IRL (she wanted the parsley color). She also reported that they are really comfy for heels!

  27. OT, so I apologize! Does anyone have the Henley V-neck sweater? (Item# 99824). I am contemplating a purchase of it, but am unsure about the size. Since it's final sale, I don't want to get the wrong one. The item description says fitted, so I would assume that means a tighter fit.

    TIA for any help!

  28. OT - I bought the ZOEY tank in size 2 in blue jasmine and it'll be too big. If interested in exchange for size 0 or buying it, let me know - chadwick_kelly@yahoo.com.

Any idea how the lattice cami's are running?

  29. Hi all! I am desperately looking for the snow leopard cardigan in a size S. I was waiting for it to go on sale, and apparently I missed it when it did :( Has anyone seen it?

    ReplyDelete
  30. jbird, I didn't find the henley to be fitted at all - in fact, I was swimming in my usual small and had to return it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks silver lining!

I wear a medium in a lot of the JC items, but sometimes I need a large. I think I will stick with a medium. It's a catalog/online item only, so it's frustrating not to be able to try it on.

    ReplyDelete
  32. jbird, the henley sweater is huge. but i like that look on me. so it was fine. but if you are wanting a more fitted look, size down.

    ReplyDelete
  33. lilac cupcake - I saw a S at the 17th & 5th b&m last night.... hopefully it is still there! Good luck!

  35. Can anyone share with me how the trouser jeans fit? I just ordered a size 6 in the Dark Trouser Jean Clean Rinse Wash, and am now wondering if I should have gone with the 4. I am a size 4 in the super 120s city fit suit pants, but have never ordered jeans from JCrew. I don't like my jeans to be tight, and since my size 4 city fits are slightly tight in the hips and waist, I went up to a 6 for the jeans. Did I make a mistake??? Many thanks!

  38. Alexis,

Could we please have an additional exchange thread this week? I have noticed a lot of randomly placed sale postings because people missed the boat on Monday.

I too missed Monday's post and have 7 items I wanted to list. I know I could go back and put it on now, but as you said people tend to forget about a post after it's off the front page.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks dani_california :)I'm going to go ahead and order them in a 7.5

    ReplyDelete
  40. As far as the fit of JC jeans, you did not mention your body type. I am pear shaped so I found the Trouser Jean and any of the other Trouser style pants to be perfect for me! In my opinion the waist fits a little higher, where I am typically smaller and the thighs skim rather than hug like most bootcut jeans. My advice to you would be to measure your true waist and order from that measurement. Unfortunately most trouser style pants run the risk of looking like the dreaded "mom jean" if someone wears them too tight or too low on their wasit. It really is a great jean and just takes a little more effort to find the right size. Good luck, I hope this helps.

  47. I received a few emails asking about the hexagon jacquard mini (item 11803). Thought I may give a mini review here.

It is an adorable skirt with unique prints, the perfect length ann slight A-line shape. The fabric is soft and thin to medium weight. I am usually a size 2 in pants but sized up on this one so it does not get too short at the back. The waist is not terribly loose so it is great. It hits about 4.5" above my knees.

However, the fabric is a little shiny for me - it is quite shiny even under dim lights. The black part on the skirt is made of shiny materials (probably the acetate?) and the greyish fabric is metallic. I initially thought only the center and back front part are shiny as shown on the website but it was in fact the lighting effect.

I ended up returning it as I figured I would not have much use of a short and shiny mini perhaps except for Saturday nights out.

If you are not afraid of a little shines, go for it! :)

  48. Anon at 11:57 AM, thanks for your input on the jeans. I appreciate it. As for my body type, I'm not really sure how to describe myself. Maybe "regular," if there is such a thing?!? I'm 5'8 and about 130 lbs. Sort of evenly proportioned I guess. These days I find I have a bit more meat on my hips and behind, so I'm having trouble figuring out my pants size. I don't want things too tight, but have some trouble when I size up a little too much and then have things stretch and give with wear. I suppose I should just go do the measurements! Thanks again.

  51. Has anyone been to a factory store lately & if so, is there anything good in those stores? Do they ever get in items from the regular stores? TIA

    ReplyDelete
  52. I noticed in the store that the cafe capri comes in size 00. I was a bit shocked! Then I saw that some of the other cotton pants are also size 00.

Do you think this means they might start rolling out size 00 in more pants? I also wonder if this is a move to offer smaller sizes all around (shirts, skirts, etc)?

I don't know if this has been discussed already or not.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I bought the crackle-metallic mary janes and they are TTS. Before buying them myself I read several other posts that said they were TTS.

I have the sherbet color and it is really cute, very nice for spring/summer. They are quite comfortable for 3.5" heels. The strap helps keep my heel in the shoe, which can be an issue with heels over 3" high. There is a wee bit of toe cleavage but just a wee bit. ;-)

    HTH

    ReplyDelete
  54. ss - I noticed that too. I tried on some pink capris in 00 (forgot which ones they were) and they were still just a tad looser than I like. I wear a 26 in citizens so I'm slender but I'm not that skinny, you know? It still feels like they ran like a BR size 2. Perhaps that was just that paricular style. I'll be trying other size 00 just to see of course.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Are any of the coupons in-store as well as online?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Kathleen--That is interesting about the fit of the 00s you tried on. I'm really hoping that this is not an indication of an increase in vanity sizing. I'm all for increasing the range of sizes to include more people, but please don't size some of us out!

I am really hoping they'd make a smaller size in the camis and tanks (like 00 or XXS). I ordered a 0P in the victoria cami and the armholes were way too big. I've had to cut and re-sew the straps of several of the camis and tanks (e.g. the python print tank). There are just some things I can't alter though.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Lilac - I ordered one yesterday along with a few other items. It should be arriving tomorrow (I did overnight shipping), so if I don't love it, I'll definitely let you know if you're interested in buying it before I return.

  58. No offense to the Professor or others who comment but deeming an article or outfit as "professional" may be open to a wide interpretation. For example, The Professor worked at a university and wore the Silver Sand Jacquard jacket to work. That item would in no way be considered professional in my office, I could only dream of being able to wear such items to work.

Just a recommendation but you may want to ask if an item or outfit is professional based on the type of work you do or the environment in which you work. There are a lot of different occupations and work environments represented here, based on posts I've read and I've been following for a few months now. It may help you get a better opinion.

Not that others can't comment too, but if you really want to know, be specific.

  60. Anonymous @ 12:44 PM - My last visit to a FS was in Dec. I wasn't impressed. There were many items made just for the factory. A bit lower in quality than regular JC. That said, there were a few cute things and I got a great pair of boot cut jeans for 40% off. Can't recall what the net price was.

dani_california - Thx to you & the anon for info on the metallic crackle pumps. I was curious about them. I made a post in my blog w/your reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I noticed that they started producing smaller sizes in some things, too--the capris, as Kathleen mentioned, the cords from winter, both in 00, and some jeans in 25 and even 24 (the toothpick). I'm generally a 25 in jeans and found both the capris and the cords to be slightly too big. I had to wash my cords in hot and dry on high heat to get them to shrink to the appropriate size. The size 25S jeans are an excellent fit, though. I am slender, but in no way really skinny--I've always been told I look healthy and even athletic (ha, total joke if you knew my lifestyle), and wish that they would make more clothes--especially bottoms--in smaller sizes. For example, I would love to buy some of the chinos or trousers, but they start at 0, which is too big, and p0 sizes are too short.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Grr, just tried to return a final sale item that fit like a boat, and I wasn't allowed. I'm so frustrated. The tags were attached and I had my receipt, and everything. I explained that it fit much larger than a small should fit, but no dice. I do so much shopping w/ J. Crew to not be able to return things that don't fit is so ridiculous. Rant over.

  63. anon @2:10

since when is a blazer not professional? yes, what is a 'professional' outfit can be open to interpretation, but I think the very nature of a blazer is formal... it dresses up any outfit. sure, the silver sand jacquard is flashy, but if you've got the confidence and know-how to pull it off, you can wear it anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thanks for the input on the metallic mary janes... I think I'm going to size up & see if it reduces the toe cleavage?

  65. Sorry to double post... Hoping someone sees this. Have any of you ladies purchased the Jack Purcell sneakers? I wear an 8 in women sizes. What size should I purchase? Please advise...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anon @ 2:49: I have sized down two sizes for men's sizes. I think that's the general conversion. So if you're a women's 8, you'd be a men's 6. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I agree with anon at 2:10. "Professional" depends on where you work. Anything can be professional if you work at a farmer's market. Not necessarily so if you work as a CEO of a traditional/conservatice company.

    ReplyDelete
  73. heather, I respect what you're saying but I disagree. Just because it is a blazer doesn't mean it is appropriate in any setting. That's like saying any dress is appropriate to wear to a friend's wedding, as long as it's a dress - uh, no.

I work in a very conservative, global corporation where I would be taken aside and asked if I were drinking or WTF if I wore the Silver Sand Jacquard jacket to work, as much as I love the piece. Especially now with the economic downturn, our employees are taking things up a notch in professionalism, not wearing whatever they like whether it's appropriate or not. It shows that they understand the corporate culture and the image we are expected to project. It's just smart, it shows that you "get it" without being told.

It's not a problem for me to follow a explicit or implicit dress code and my staff are the same. We have terrific jobs and are well-compensated with the opportunity for global travel and bonuses so if I have to dress the part - I'll take it!

  74. UGh! Does anyone have an ivory Madeline coat from this year? Mine has a very odd smell and a girlfriend of mine w/ the same coat noticed it as well- although mine seems to smell worse/stronger than hers. Febreze didn't help and neither did the lazy approach of 'airing it out'. Maybe a trip to the dry cleaners would help.. but I feel like that should not be necessary since it's brand STINKIN new! (lol bad pun I know). Thanks!

when you tried to return did the receipt show an * by the item? I have a triple scroll bracelet to return and it does not have the * so I may be OK. I did return some pants 2 weeks ago that the website said final sale but the receipt had no * and the B&M took them back.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Caitlin - maybe dry throwing it in the dryer for 20 minutes with Dry Cleaners Secret or a similar product? My boss smokes in my face all the time (I know, great. . .) but that has really helped me get the smoke out of my suits. If the smell is caused by something inherent in the coat though, it might be another story :(

  77. Hi Beth, yes my item had an * next to it.

The SA didn't notice until she saw on the computer, and she actually said that the "system wouldn't let her" and that it would have had to be authorized by someone at the company in order for her to be able to do the return.

    Bummer!

  78. anon 3:27,

We're not talking about some frayed thrift store blazer with patches... this is a $375 (full price, probably cheaper now) jcrew item. I see where some people might frown upon it.... but sorry, if "taking it up a notch in professionalism" = boring black pantsuit everyday, count me out, and I'll be happier for it! :) If someone pulled me aside because I was wearing something other than grey/brown/black/navy, I'd think *they* were crazy. jcrew suiting and shirts are helpful in this way, because it helps women mix it up a bit, have some personality but still be pulled together. :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. lleila,
thats a bummer. Try to list it here??. I have a bracelet to big on my wrist, and a size 6 denim pencil skirt with no * but I am afraid when I drive all the way to my store they will say the same as they did to you.

    ANOTHER QUESTION:

Has anyone ever returned more than 1 item in a box. Shipping label from 1 item but other things inside box with the receipts attached??

People have different opinions, and others like myself, think differently than you do on this one. Stop trying to prove you're *right*. We think you're *wrong*, but I seriously don't care, just let it go that we have different opinions! You seem to always have to have the last word and make sure others *know* you're right... when you're not- you just have a different opinion.

If an item is appropriate in your office/workplace/profession/part of the country, then wear it...

    if not, then don't.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Silver Sand Jacquard jacket is profesional attire? You have GOT to be kidding me. I just imagined faces of my coworkers and client if I wore THAT to work. I dont think its appropriate to wear in a teaching profession either. It has nothing to do with confidence to pull it off. It is just not a professional piece.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Heather may dress like a gypsie and think it's beautiful...but that would be her opinion and not mine, and I would respect that. I would however, not act like her and tell you it's wrong, or that MY way is more correct. I'm going as a nudist today, just to prove my point.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Silver Sand Jacquard = more of a happy hour piece. Dying to get noticed, I guess...but not for the office. Not the line of work I do anyway...perhaps if you're a streetwalker, and it's 9 pm, and dark out...

  87. OK, I'm the Anon @ 3:27 with the long-winded post. I'm not the Anon @ 4:12.

    ReplyDelete
  89. heather,

sorry to belabor the point, but it's hard to argue with the fact that different work environments have different dress codes. in my law firm, nobody would find a silver blazer appropriate for office day attire. and obviously, a high price tag does not qualify an otherwise beautiful, but still inappropriate, piece. you may have chosen a profession or workplace that gives you more creative license with your attire, but i don't think you should put down the choices of others who do wear black pantsuits to work everyday and save the silver blazers for evenings and weekends.

    ReplyDelete
  90. OMG, this was soooooo a debate that didn't need to get nasty. Seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  91. 4:36pm,

I too do not want to belabor the point (someone will think I'm trying to be *right* ;) hehe), because I don't even like this particular jacket. I was just trying to offer the opinion that some people would wear this regardless of whether they worked at an art gallery or in corporate finance. I totally understand, having worked in offices on both sides of spectrum, that certain things do not fly, the people will look at you strange... but some of us do not buy into the idea that what you wear reflects your performance (and that's why we choose to work in places that do not force such dress codes). totally and peacefully agree to disagree, didn't mean to insult black pantsuit crowd (the jcrew ones are nice, eh?). :)

    ReplyDelete
  92. I love the J.Crew suits. I especially like the light gray for spring/summer. I wish the double-serge pencil skirt had a matching jacket so it could be a suit. I have the Tuesday trench, which is the same fabric but it's navy and it is a coat, not a suit jacket.

  94. Went to a factory store today & left with nothing. I was the ONLY customer in the store, to three desperate salesgirls. Jcrew really needs to reconsider its strategy with their outlet - the stuff is WAY overpriced for its quality. I also did see a few regular-store items, but they were actually a higher price than what had been their last markdown in the regular store (I know, because they had one silk cami there that I'd bought in the reg. store). It was a wasted trip; I doubt I'll go back to a factory store.

  97. I have the silver jacquard jacket I bought it in the sale. It's a "party" on my back. I would never wear it to an office in the daylight hours. It just says "hey let's have fun, let's have a drink.... Let's go to a tropical island and wear me at night when it gets chilly with your man" " Wear me to that fundraiser honey." it does not say "Meet me in the boardroom in 10 minutes and bring the proposals." Believe me on this one. I see it in my closet everyday and go "whoa nelly!"

I adore and respect all of you guys...saying this in a very nice and sweet tone here... I promise. But...I just can't hear about that jacket all night so can we stop and go onto .. JEANS
    JEANS and more JEANS...

What's you fav pair from JCREW?
Wash, color or Style? Mine are the matchstick cords and my fav color is the seasalt. I also like the distressed but do not have any. I worry about where the rips will be? Are they always near the knees?

  99. When I ordered over the phone a few weeks ago, two of my items were FS. The CS rep said she would note the account for returns because of color issues on the net and inconsistant sizing being one of J Crews faults.

Anywho... the closest store to me is 50+ miles away. How can I be sure that they will accept the return. There's no note on the receipt.

  108. Hey Beth, I love the matchsticks too, dark wash, crisp blue and dark indigo cords. The cords are super sweet with a pair of high-heeled boots. The toothpick jeans are nice-fitting, but the color transfer is really starting to annoy me, even after several washings.

I have a pair of capri jeans from last summer that were shipped folded up twice with a flat cuff hitting just below the knee, which is how I wear them. I believe they were hip slung and the fit is incredible. I wear them with my pink french terry hoodie and white leather 3" wood wedge Guess slides. Very casual, but Ooh la la it gets the looks! If I see another pair of these this year I'm buying them.

Just a tip for all you who would like the percent off coupon and are already on the e-mail list: the associates have no way of telling whether or not your e-mail address is already in the system. Just act like you don't get their e-mails and give them your address (even if you already get them) and they will give you the coupon. Don't say "Oh, I already get them." Just give it and they will be none the wiser.

  125. I received the butterfly bauble bracelet today... I am so disappointed! It is huge on me, hangs down to the middle of my hand, and I feel that there are way too many baubles, which makes it super clunky. Unfortunately it is going back tomorrow. I wish JC would consider sizing down on the length of their bracelets, or at least offer more links for a sizing alternative. :-(

I also received the Slub cotton-silk Melody dress in the lavendar. I was so excited for this dress, but it is going back as well. The cap sleeves made my shoulders look really wide, the bust area was a bit loose, and I did not like the pleating at the front & back of the dress, it made me look wider than I am. Oh well, better for my wallet I guess.

  133. I think the Nicky skirt is TTS. But if you want to you can size down, wear it higher on your waist, plus it'll be a little shorter (this is a plus if you're on the shorter side). I think the skirt is flattering I was concerned it made me look too full in the hips, but with a structured or fitted top, I think the skirt looks nice.

  134. OT, I had an order come missing an item, first time ever in years of crew shopping. Obvi, I called, and they issued a new one, no shipping blah blah blah. The new one came, I checked my card, and it was charged. I called customer service and they said it can just take a few days for a credit to appear... is this normal? I mean I paid for it once, so why charge again and credit the original, couldn't they just send it out??

I would love to hear some other experiences, I'm definitely concerned.

    Thanks!

  135. Can someone help me?

I just bought an xs in the Snow Leopard cardi online because S was out. I usually take S but the merino button cuff cardi in XS worked for me.. how does the Snow Leopard cardi compare? Does it run smaller? The same?.. It says its is Merino Wool, so I am hoping the sizing is similar to the cuff button..

Also, for those of you who saw the Snow Leop cardi in stores, how much was it? Probably doesn't matter now though, since I bought the xs on final sale..

    Thanks!

Well, I went and took a big sniff from my sea salt non-thinsulate madeline coat, and I think there is a distinct smell. I took a sniff of another coat just to make sure (feeling silly there). I'm usually sensitive to smells, so the smell isn't strong enough to be noticeable unless I am determined to get a close whiff. I don't have any tips for removing smells from fabric besides hanging it outside on a sunny windy day.

Did the Febreze leave any fabric issues or spots? I was considering using scotchguard or something like that to keep the coat white.

I haven't had the chance to wear it out (I'm currently 8 months pregnant) but the material is nice and soft, and the dress has a nice drape to it. The neckline is very flattering as well. Usually their dresses don't fit quite right, but the XS fit and the hem hit just above my knees. (I'm 5-0)
    Hope this helps!

I know you got a response from someone but this is just my point of view on the Twyla heels. I just got some myself (in orange suede) and I think they run fairly TTS. I'd probably get a snugger fitting pair because they stay on if I have them buckled on one of the last holes. I also have a little bit of a heel so that helps keep the strap on too. At first I was concerned but I wore them around the house a bit and I feel more confident about wearing them out.

Forgot the say. If you have an online account go to your order history. Under the original order (the one with the missing item) the item would be marked as "pre-returned". Give them a call if it is not marked "pre-returned". There is a chance that it was not processed correctly. HTH

  148. to anon. 10:46 I like the 'bootcut jeans' the best for the curvier figure, it has a nice 'anti-gap' fit too. The slight boot cut leg gives a nice balanced out look.

    ReplyDelete
  149. To "junk in the trunk"

I just recently discovered Jcrew jeans even though I've bean wearing jcrew for several years. I have the bootcut in the dark color. They are pretty good fit in the "trunk", lol. Plus they're not too flared and not too tight in the thighs. The short is perfect length for me, I'm 5'3. Didn't need to hem them. The color is great, pretty dark, can wear them dressed up easily or dressed down with a Tee and flats. I think what I like most about these jeans is that even though there's room in the butt, the waist is a little higher and there's not a huge gap in the waist.

One word of caution though, the lighter color (which by the way cost like $118 whereas the darker color is $98) fits totally differently, same size was too small, too tight, too low cut. Maybe I just tried on a weird pair, but man, they seemed like a totally different pair of jeans.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Jo- OMG you and I love the same things about the same jeans. I really think they're great!

Re: the smelly Madeline coat...I don't have the Madeline but I noticed that the wool/cashmere J. Crew coat I have does smell a bit like a wet dog when it gets wet. I'm pretty it's the cashmere (my J Crew cashmere sweaters smell like that when I handwash them). Maybe the Fabreeze would help. For me, the smell goes away when the coat dries off.

(Incidentally I have a pair of J. Crew leather boots that smell awful on the inside...can't really describe the smell but it's kind of a mix of wet leather and chemicals of some sort. Does anyone have any ideas how to get rid of it?)

    ReplyDelete
  152. Anon 11:58, I was thinking that about the Icon as well - you could get a Burberry off of eBay for about that price.

You know who has some cute looking trenches - TJ Maxx. I was in search of JC there yesterday and saw a nice Calvin Klein one for $79, and a really cute Nine West one with three quarter sleeves and a Peter Pan collar for $49. Both of them had tags that said "water resistant" - well, yeah! They should be! :)

    ReplyDelete
  153. The reason most trench coats are water-resistant and not water-proof is because the waterproofing doesn't allow air transfer between you and the fabric and you will start to sweat pretty fast. The water-resistant coating does allow some air, and therefore water transfer and makes the garment much more comfortable. Water-resistant should be sufficient unless you are spending time in a major downpour or if you're a sea mariner out in a gale.

If you want to see what I mean, wear a plastic dry cleaning bag around the house for an hour. Waterproof = sauna.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I have the crackle-metallic Mary Janes. I've worn them 5 or 6 times already and haven't noticed any metallic flecking off. They are already crackled/distressed so I wouldn't notice it on the shoe unless there were major chunks falling off but I haven't seen any on the hardwood floor after wearing them in the house for several hours. There is a card inside the shoe box that reads:

    Shine on...
This shoe's signature crackle-metallic finish is created with a whisper-thin layer of metallic foil atop soft, supple Italian suede. Over time, the leather's natural movement will cause the foil to wear gently in places, enhancing the exquisite "vintage" look. To maintain the foil finish, handle (and wear) with care.

I think some flaking off can be expected with the crackle metallic finish, but I would be very disappointed if it was happening to the shoes that aren't supposed to have that "exquisite vintage look".

  157. Oops, my typing skills could use a tune-up. Let's try that again...

Marietta - about the Melody dress: do you think it's the kind of thing where a size down would have been more flattering, or is it that the proportions, you think, are off at any size? It looks like such a lovely dress, and I was very interested to see that someone had bought and tried it on.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I finally ordered the beautiful metallic mary janes last night at149.99 with 20% off and this morning they are 79.99. Unbelievable! i just called and i was told they don't make adjustments on sale items. So I guess I have to order another pair & return the other when I get them. I'm very disappointed with J Crew. My apologies just venting...

    ReplyDelete
  159. Marietta, I'm so sorry to hear about the Butterfly bracelet! I really love it and may still buy it when it goes on sale. J.Crew's bracelets do tend to run large and I find that I can't really wear them to work and type comfortably.

Also, I returned an online purchase at my Georgetown store last night and the SA asked me what email address I used. I told him, and he gave me a 10% off card! I didn't even buy anything! So I'm pretty sure if you use an email address that J.Crew already has they will still give you the coupon.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Saranagamana - I think the proportions are off. I ordered a 4P, which is my normal size. It fit perfectly at the waist (and I love the band around the waist, that part was very flattering), but was loose in the bust. Also, the pleats in the front and back were not flattering, the dress would have looked more flattering without it. Also, for some reason the cap sleeves were really poofy, which made my shoulders look wide. I also tend to think that if they had used a slightly stiffer material the dress would hang better overall. I did love the lavendar color, I found it to be a very flattering shade for me.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Ugh! Sorry for all the "flattering" thrown in there.... I have a major headache and I am not able to think clearly today! :-)

    ReplyDelete

  167. Thanks for all the feedback about the Ingrids! I purchased them in an 8.

Length wise, I'm an 8 or sometimes even 7 1/2, but because I have wide feet, I usually have to wear a 8 1/2. The 8's in the Ingrid fit me width wise perfectly, and are actually a little gappy in the back, which def leads me to believe that these shoes would run big for a normal persons feet. So size down if you have normal/narrow feet, and opt for the smaller of two sizes you wear if you have wide feet.

Hope that helps anyone else considering the ingrids, they are beautiful shoes. Although the tiny heel leads me to wonder how long they will last. =)
