  1. I tried using this promo with some final sale items early this morning...I called to place an order based on what I saw available online (I tried checking out online, but the website was too slow). However, as I was placing my order, the items were selling out, and I wasn't even able to take advantage of the promo. The CSR kept adding the items to the order and then minutes later apologized that they were not available anymore. Ridiculous! I am getting extremely tired of jumping through hoops to order JCrew clothing...as much as I love their clothing I don't think I will even bother taking advantage of these promotions in the future. I'll be shopping solely at B&M stores...their loss since I am a cardholder and spend tons of money there!

Has this happened to anyone else recently?

  2. Slightly OT but we don't have a "how does this item fit" thread so I figured I'd try here.
There was some discussion in a thread earlier this week, maybe the dry cleaning one, about swimsuit fit. Can anyone provide some help on their bandeau top sizing? Not to get too personal, but I'm a 34D or 36C and a sz 4 in JCrew tops. I thought the M might fit better in terms of cup size but I don't want it to be too loose around the back. So, small or medium? TIA!

  3. Did you see the blush colored roses tee in REAL SIMPLE magazine, as well as a silk dress coming out in April and J Crew sandals? If you want that tee, you might as well get it 20% off!

  4. Sherbie...I too am a 34D and I wear a size 8 in J Crew tops dresses. However I have no luck with the swimsuits. They are ill fitting if you are larger than a B cup. The D Cup tops are never a tie back, always a hook and they look frumpy and are huge, and the string bikini tops, even in a large are too small in the cup. My advice shop for swim wear elsewhere. And I say that with a heavy heart because I love J Crew and the suits are cute, but not for me.

  5. I am over J Crew and the fake sales. It is all the same stuff, recycled and returned. They pull it off the website and then it magically reappears in two days as being in stock. I almost feel like I am being price gouged. I also hate when I buy something full price, oh say a 325.00 dress and then within 3 weeks it is 59.99 on final sale. I feel ripped off and the clothes are losing value for me. They also sell the same crap at the outlet that is on final sale for 9.99 for full price 20% off. Scam artists.

  6. sherbie: I have the medium bandeau and I wish I'd gotten a small. The medium doesn't fall down or anything, but it is a little big. That said, I am a measly 34B :) So, I think a M might be better for you. Also, if you get the twisted bandeau, it has a tie in the back rather than a clasp, so you can adjust a little more. HTH!

    AGREED!

I just bought the chiffon pleated cardi for 99.00...not it is about half that price less then a week later? Please...ill go spend my money somewhere else...

  8. Thanks anon @ 2:12 and smarty - this is helpful. I might have to go to a B&M store and try a few tops on before taking the dreaded final sale plunge on swimwear:(

  9. Can anybody help me with a fit issue?

I have been admiring the Super 120s sleeveless dress and the Slub Linen Camilla dress. They are on final sale but I hesitate because I am afraid the skirt is too slim. I am a little pear-shaped -- I normally wear a size 6 dress, but size 8 in the pencil skirts because of the tight fit. I am small-waisted and only a 36B on top. so I am afraid to order "up". These dresses say they have a "straight" skirt. Does anybody know if the skirt is more pencil-like or does it skim the hips and fall from there? Thanks!!!

  10. Anon 2:18, I too have gotten uncomfortable with how they restock the site only after an additional discount has ended.

Unfortunately they are not the only ones that do that. Hayden Harnett also has a habit of offering discount, but taking certain items off the site, only to put them back on after the sale is over.

    ReplyDelete
  11. so the promo basically offsets shipping costs. that's J. Crew's first problem. eliminate or reduce shipping, seriously. it's out of hand and the exact reason why the two items in my shopping cart on their .com won't make it to my front porch.

    ReplyDelete
  12. ANON 2:39: This is my problem exactly with these JCrew offers...offer 20% off AND free shipping an maybe i'll order. I wanted to order 2 sweaters, and the 20% off did not even cover the whole shipping charge! Absolutely absurd....if this was gap/banana/old navy I would get free shipping on anything with my credit card..and with the jcrew card i get nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I actually prefer the Extra% Off promos more than the free shipping ones. Think about it -- the most you will ever save with a free shipping offer is $18.95. I wait for the Extra 20-30% off my total order and frequently save over $100, plus whatever extra tax on that amount. So who cares if I pay for shipping after that?? It saves more in the long run, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If you have a J Crew credit card you should get free shipping period. Over the holidays I ordered a men's monogrammed sweater gift wrapped. They shipped me the gift box and the tissue paper in a box via UPS, and then two weeks later I received the sweater in a box via UPS. How stupid is that, perhaps they cover the cost of frivolous shipping practices by overcharging loyal customers?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Has anyone tried the super 120s high pencil skirt (the one that comes in dusty rose)? Care to share your opinion on fit, quality, etc? TIA

    ReplyDelete
  16. i wish they had extra percent off with free shipping and NO minimum! i guess piggybacking stuff is okay but then it takes forever to get the credit back on your card once you return it.

i also like free shipping with no minimum because then you can buy a few things without breaking the bank!

wouldn't it be nice with tax free and free shipping AND an additional percent off?!

    ReplyDelete
  17. laurenmarie, for those of us who don't regularly indulge in $500 (required if you're going to save $100 on a 20% off coupon), this offer does, in fact, pretty much just take care of shipping.

I've said it before; I'll say it again: JCrew needs a standard, flat-rate $7-8 shipping fee.

    ReplyDelete
  18. laurenmarie,

I prefer free shipping. That way I am not out the shipping fees if I need to return it all or most of it what with sizing issues and all.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree with everyone on the shipping issue...JCrew's shipping rates are absolutely OUT OF CONTROL and stop me from ordering many times. They should give cardholders some sort of shipping priviledges.
They obviously are aware of this blog and read the comments so maybe they'll figure it out eventually...

    ReplyDelete
  20. I have the llbean card, which gives me free shipping & returns. BR has a standard fee, nordstrom is free over $200 and otherwise 7-8 bucks. I'd love free shipping all the time, but I'd be compromise for a flat rate. To charge me $12.50 to send me one damn sweater is @#$%^!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anon 3:00 pm:

I don't frequently indulge in $500 spending (I had my rewards card to spend!!), but even if you spend the minimum ($175) you still get $35 off plus tax which still beats $18.95 in my book. I do agree, however, that JC cardholders should get free shipping as a perk. If Nordstrom can still make money on $5.00 shipping with no minimum, JC should at least try that!!

  22. sidney bristow:

I have the super 120s High pencil skirt. I actually went up a size in this one but I probably could have gotten away with my regular size. I got a 6 and it fits a little lower but I was worried about a 4 being too tight. I have very minimal rear... so... keep that in mind also. I don't have too many JC Pencils but I tried on the double serge (never gone one :( ) in a 6 and it was way too big. I also have the Prima Stretch Wool pencil and I got a 4 in that one. So, in my experience, the Super 120s high pencil runs a little small. I hope that helps/isn't too rambling!

Anon @ 2:12: I totally feel your pain on JC Swimwear as a fellow 34D, and though I have considered trying the D cup styles I will now stay away from them thanks to your advice! I normally wear a 4 in JC tops and I have to wear a 12 in some of their swim to get the cups big enough, and then the back is too loose. Very frustrating. Only the string/adjustable tops really work for me. Boo, because their swim is so cute and great quality.

    ReplyDelete
  23. never GOT one, not never gone one. sorry. sloppy typing!

    ReplyDelete
  24. EM-

Even the string tops don't work for me. I look like I should be in Rio and have to be very careful about accidental exposure. I think they changed the cut within the last few years because they used to be larger. I have older string tops and when I compare the two the newer ones are def cut much smaller. I can still wear tops I purchased 2-3 years ago. I caved and bought the rainbow ruffle bikini last year. Medium bottoms..saggy butt, Large top too small. :) final sale no returns and it is sitting in my drawer, Just in case I do go to Rio or become a pole dancer.:)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hahah! Yes, the string top I have is at least 3 years old. Also, the size medium bottoms that go with it are also saggy in the butt! Ugh! Sooo looks like I will not be buying ANY JC swimwear this year! Too bad. I got a Victoria's Secret bikini last year, with a top simiar to JC's "glamour top", and it is my bra size, which actually fits and was cheap! I guess I'll have to keep looking elsewhere. I do want to try the italian jersey lomellina or whatever it's called, but surely I will be disappointed. Glad I'm not the only one JC swim doesn't really work for.

  26. Has anyone seen the cotton embossed Lorelei in the flower patter on line? I saw it in stores but can't find it to order? Thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Em:
Just to offer my two cents:
I am a 34D and do not buy my swimsuits from anyone BUT J.Crew. I LOVE how their D cup suits fit me!

Everybody's body is different- but it might be worth you trying it out and seeing how they work for yours. I have one suit that I bought three summers ago and it is still going strong. I actually just ordered another one this morning!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hillary-

My JCrew suits from three years ago are fine. It is the newer ones that are cut different. And I only buy the string tops. What are you buying???

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi :)
I have a one piece that is a strapless bandeau suit with a keyhole in the top and a center halter strap that i love. Probably my favorite suit of all time.

I have the d-cup banded halter bikini top and the d-cup halter one piece. I also have the d-cup one piece cross back and the d-cup glamour top.

This morning I ordered the d-cup twist front swing top.

  30. I think flat shipping is a good idea. Gap does it, Nordstrom does it, J. Crew should do it. I think they would sell more - heck I would buy more. I hate to order just one or two things. Now, I put stuff in my bag, hoping it stays in stock until I get a free shipping code. Seriously, $7 flat rate would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hey y'all - I ordered a bunch of stuff on Wednesday with the 20% and my package came today...yay! I have to say, I mixed feelings about the things I ordered.

    Merino Crewneck Cardigan
    Warm Blush, size M
I am really disappointed with this cardi. For one, the color looked like a "cool" pink online, but in person it is much more of a peachy-pink. I ordered a medium hoping it would fit like the Melanie cardis from this winter and I don't like to wear sweaters skin tight. It's HUGE on me! I'm 5'5", and it's very long, hitting awkwardly at mid-hip. It's really loose in the torso, shoulders, and arms, and the arms are really long. I should mention that a medium in the Melanie cardis fit me perfectly and left me room to layer. So, this is definitely going back because even a smaller size won't fix the length issue.

    Silk-linen V-neck Sweater
Slate and Fresh Mint, size S
These I really like, although I'm a little concerned about them wrinkling because of the linen. They're three-quarter length with is great because I can wear a bracelet or watch. The fit is TTS, fitted in the shoulder and arms and looser in the torso and hits right at the hip. Both colors are really pretty, although the fresh mint is a bit brighter and more aqua than the way it looks online.

    Daisy Eyelet Mini
    Size 6
I typically wear a 6 in J.Crew bottoms, but I think because this is a mini, I should have sized up. Too bad it's final sale :(. I definitely won't be able to wear it with tights, but it's not too "mini" that I'll be uncomfortable wearing it to class when it gets warmer. Very cute!

    Butterfly Bauble Bracelet
Okay, this thing is huge! It looked a lot more delicate online, though I knew it would be a statement piece. It's very pretty, though I think overpriced at $125. It picks up the colors in the spring collection really well and will help me transition my winter stuff to spring. Only complaint is that it is so heavy! I'll have to be carefully not to hurt anyone with it haha.

    Bistro Pants
    British Khaki, size 6
LOVE these! They fit beautifully and are very slimming and flattering from behind ;). They have some stretch to them and don't seem to wrinkle easily. I got the regular length and they're still too long to wear with flats, so I'm going to have them hemmed.

  32. Flat rate shipping would be awesome! I just received my order from Ralph Lauren, an example of affordable and efficient shipping! $5 flat-rate for orders under $150 and free if over. The package arrived within 2 days and they ship from NC, as opposed to NJ where JC usually ships my stuff from, yet is more efficient.

Julia, thanks for the review on the silk linen sweater. I was concerned whether it was TTS. Now I can't wait until my sweet cantaloupe one arrive! :)

  33. Julia-

  37. i ordered the fresco cardigan last week and it came... i am super disappointed with the colors. i thought it would be softer but it's actually more mid-tones. though i liked the pattern online in person it wasn't what i was hoping for at all. also, the buttons seem cheap looking to me and the pattern definitely did not match up when buttoned. i'm returning it tomorrow with the tissue bubble shirt (cute, but boring for the $39.95 price) and a jeans belt in pink (just okay).

    maybe next time...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Response to ANON 2:39. I totally agree that they should have offered free shipping too. I live PST, therefore, I completely forgot that the LOVE offer expired midnight east standard time. So sad.

  39. Laurenmarie10:

Your shape sounds like mine. I am a big fan of the Super 120 fabric and so I have tried on most of the dresses. I suggest you size up to an 8. My experience has been that the skirts are fairly straight--not quite a pencil shape but definately not A-lines. You can always have the bodice tailored to give you a better fit up top if you need it.

If you are really worried, place your order over the phone, confirm the measurements on the skirt, explain your sizing dilemma and ask if they would include a note in your order permitting you to return the item if it does not fit.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with those of you complaining about the shipping charges. I'm honestly surprised that 'the powers that be' at J. Crew haven't rethought this, since high shipping charges make customers feel like they are being ripped off more than (equivalently) high retail prices would... J. Crew sells clothing, not packing and shipping, and has no business earning a healthy margin on shipping as far as most customers are concerned.

Some of you may have noticed that ebay has been giving buyers an opportunity, with feedback, to rate a seller specifically with respect to appropriateness of shipping charges... this speaks volumes about what other retail businesspeople think of this practice. Based on the Gap family brands and other retailers having recently gone to flat rate (and otherwise better-value) shipping, there seems to be a market trend in this direction. Hopefully J. Crew will take a hint and rethink this business practice.

  41. burntphotograph,
Thanks for the fresco sweater info. You are the second or third person to mention the sweater not lining up. Also, thanks for the sweater color opinion and button detailing. This was on the top of my wish list and I just crossed it off! Thanks again.

  42. For example Zappos charges a little more then other shoe stores, but I don't mind paying the difference because they have free overnight shipping and returns. My shoes are at my doorstop the next morning, and I can return them within a year for free no questions asked. I am also not constantly being toyed with on prices. When they have a sale thats it. They sell out and you won't see it again. And costs more to ship three pairs of shoes vs. a 200.00 cashmere sweater.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Just an FYI: I was at teh collection store today and noticed the gallery tote (the small one) in the metallic! This bag isn't online and I know some people earlier said they would love the small one in the metallic color. Looks really beautiful in person! Happy Valentine's Day everyone! (ps I am wearing my ringspun rose tee with my pearl cluster bracelet and trouser jeans with my guava driving mocs tomorrow!)

  44. Wow, thanks for posting that sale promo. I just bought two cashmere v-neck cardigans. They were on sale, but not final sale. With the promo the price went from $110 each to $88 each. Of course after tacking on shipping and tax they were back up to $101 each. :-) But I'll take the $44 discount ! Again, thanks !

  45. Just want to give a friendly reminder to ya'll.

If you go to Ebates first to get to J Crew online, you get 2% cash back on your order. I just got $6.00 and some change for mine. That helps pay for shipping? =)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Regarding the swimwear: all of the wide band halters have a tie back and fit me very well with the d-cup (thank god). Also, the watercolor stripe bathing suit is a tie top as well. Hope that helps! I always order like 6 swimsuits in different styles and then keep the ones I adore and return the rest and if they go on final sale I know what size I am! (Actually I do that with the clothing too!)

  47. Does anyone own the Juliets in solid color or Serengeti? Are they comfortable?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I have the the Serengeti and Peacock Juliets. They are fair comfortably for JC shoes. They are a bit snug in the toe for me, but less so than most JC shoes. My foot is on the wide side of medium.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sidney, I posted a little review of the super 120s skirt in tea rose on my blog. I took an IRL pic, but only on the hanger - I refuse to be photographed in it! It didn't work for me, but I think it was a size too small.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hi Argyle - I found the Juliets to be comfortable after they were broken in - at first, they were kind of tight in the toe box but now they're one of my most comfortable pairs of JC shoes (the other being the calf-hair heels from the fall/winter collection). Just a warning, the Safari Juliets run small so you may want to go up a half-size. The solid Juliets are TTS. Hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Argyle- regarding the Juliets- they are comfortable, but I think that they run on the small side and would order a half size up.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sidney, I found the Super 120's high pencil skirt to be a fabulous color but problematic fit. I sized up because of the high waist, and had too much fabric in the stomach area although the rest of the skirt fit fine. Sizing down wouldn't have helped. Too bad, 'cause the color was so nice!

  54. Hi

    Thought I'd jump in.

I, too, am frustrated by the seeming appearance/disappearance of products pre- and post-sale. This morning, I was able to nab some great deals, and when I went to process my order, all of the newly add items were gone.

Not a very customer friendly strategy. But I'm like a love struck puppy, I keep coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Julia, thank you for the reviews of your items. I was just about to get the Merino crewneck cardigan in snow and now I don't think I will get it. I really want a flattering, wear-with-everything white cardigan that I will love and it sounds like this is definitely not it. I'm 5'6" and I don't want something that will be too long.

I think I will use the 20% off to order a new bikini for summer and the indigo wash matchstick jeans. I've also been eyeing the tissue roll-up camp shirts. Would LOVE it if they had a flat shipping rate.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Shipping....ugh! The worst is when you place an order, an item is cancelled and then it reappears a few days later. You have to pay shipping charges just to reorder this item! I want a FS item but will not buy it as I will have to pay $9 shipping for a $25 item.

I did get the library cardigan in pewter this week and love it!! It is SO soft, I never want to take it off. It is very long. I'm 5'1 and it looks about 2-3 inches too long on me, but it is too comfy to return. ;o)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Argyle: I just received a pair of Juliets this week. I am normally a 8 1/2 mostly 9. They only had a 9 1/2 left so I ordered them preparing to just "make them work". They fit perfectly and the 9 would have been WAY TO SMALL. So, my opinion would be to order a 1/2 larger.

Also FYI: The iridescent Juliets are really a shinny light gold. I thought they would be more of a pearl color based on the on-line picture. The gold is VERY pretty and I love them just not what I expected.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm still not ordering anything with this promotion.

elegant_mom: The Jackie Cardigan in White is surprisingly substantial (at least the one from last season was) and not sheer like a lot of the lighter colored cardigans are. I love mine. :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. All - I totally agree with your frustration about the sale items disappearing. I lose a lot from my cart too! So sad, I really wanted the cashmere robe once it was marked down. However, as an avid online shopper, I have also realized through shopping that most other companies do not replenish nearly as often as J. Crew, nor do they keep items online that are so low in inventory. So, we get dreaded cancelled items e-mails and lose things from our carts, but we have a lot more opportunity to snag beloved items than at other stores. I am willing to take that pain because of the potential gain.

  62. I was shopping at a few stores in Canada yesterday - not J.Crew of course because they don't have stores here.

BR asked for my email at the cash and said they would email me a coupon for 20% off my next purchase. I bought a couple of scarves, which I buy every season. BR has beautiful scarves that I reach for again and again. My favourites for winter are the silk/wool/cashmere blends and the spring scarves are silk/linen blends. I also bought a pretty silk scarf in an abstract turquoise and navy print on an ivory background. Wore it out last night already, love it. Some of the new spring items look great too. It was near lunchtime at a downtown mall so I didn't want to wait in line for a fitting room, the store was packed. I'm going to go back Monday after work and try a few of the new tops and skirts.

Gap also asked for my email at the cash and said they would email me a coupon for 20% off a full priced item. I may go back and get their spring trench or a couple of the cardis that look like J.Crew's Jackie cardigan. Lots of cute colours in BR and Gap these days.

I'm posting this info because I read a few posts yesterday from unhappy JCAs in Canada who are now being charged higher tax on J.Crew orders. I haven't bought anything online lately so I can't comment on that, but perhaps trying to purchase items that are already in Canada could help your bank account. I love J.Crew but the prices with taxes and shipping are not worth it since the quality and fit issues started. I'm very selective now and try to find an alternative somewhere locally first.

    ReplyDelete
  65. ^ yup, I get it too. waste of my time.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anon 10:02, you are not the only one! I caught the restock the moment it happened and every single thing I clicked on was sold out. This means they put up the products to increase that quantity of skirts or dresses or sweaters, but they didn't actually have any in inventory. I'm willing to bet money that tomorrow when there are no codes everything will be fully stocked.

    ReplyDelete
  67. SAME HERE - have been stalking all morning & caught the new stuff. I thought maybe they loaded the items & that the inventory would show up all at the same time but I've been checking for over 1/2 hour since the items popped up & no avail. No way everything sold out that quickly....something fishy here.

  71. Has anyone else noticed that there are so many items shown in the sale categories, yet they aren't available! It's so frustrating. I click on an item and then get the oh so sorry message that it's not available. Well, if it's not available remove it from the website. I've probably clicked on six or seven items that aren't there. Shame on you J. Crew for getting my hopes up like that!

  73. OT, I was at Woodbury Outlets yesterday and they had pretty a pretty good sale at JCrew. I picked up a navy blue cotton tessa jacket for $22 and last seasons capris for $29. The clearance section was hit or miss with items that were an additional 40% off.

But the best sale was in Cole Haan, they had 40% off entire store on top of whatever sale they were offering. I picked up shoes normally priced at $179 at about $29-50 a piece, and a great soft leather messenger bag for $79. Get there this weekend if you can!

Had to share the Cole Haan stuff b/c I think there are lots of CH wearers here.

  74. To bring it back to the shipping charges discussion...

Unlike many, I've never had a problem with receiving my orders. What I don't like is the fact that so many of their clothes are catalog/online only but you have to pay for shipping. If you buy something c/o only and have to return it, you pay for shipping both ways but its not like you could have gotten it from a store or tried it on first. I agree they need to flat rate their shipping to $8 or something. I would probably get a J.Crew card if it offered free shipping on every order.

  75. I just called to pay-off/close two credit cards today, but I have to admit, if JCrew offered more perks (like free shipping) I would definitely apply for one of their cards. :O)

I did not take advantage of this offer. I am still holding out for a President's Day Sale/code.
Monday will be only time that I will able to visit a B&M for months, as the closest to me is nearly 50 miles away. My husband just happens to have a Dr. appointment that day in Tampa. Yay!

  76. SO annoyed. every single thing i click on in FS is sold out. what a waste of time.

  77. Regarding the higher tax charges for Canadian orders, I noticed after their site upgrade last summer, J.Crew was charging a lot less taxes for my Canadian order. I thought perhaps duty was reduced overall or something but anything else I ordered from the U.S. had a much higher tax rate or the duty was collected from me C.O.D.

I guess J.Crew finally figured it out. Probably when they tried to close off 2008 they discovered that they were not charging the correct rate and had grossly under-collected. I could be mistaken, but I expect it was an error on their part. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if J.Crew was now trying to recoup some of their tax losses by overcharging Canadians now.

    ReplyDelete
  78. HigherTaxes: I doubt it, they are not overcharging to recoup their money. Lets leave this topic alone.

As for your comment about shopping in Canada, I only buy what I cannot purchase in my own town.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Anon 3:17 - I did not say J.Crew WAS overcharging, I said it wouldn't surprise me given that the prevailing attitude is that they overcharge for shipping. There is a difference. I doubt it would be legal to overcharge taxes but the way the J.Crew website is so screwed up, it wouldn't surprise me if it were happening.

Also, I said nothing about shopping in Canada. Not sure what you're talking about here. I buy tons of stuff from the U.S. and abroad.

    - Higher Taxes for Canadians

  80. Two thoughts/criticisms:

    1. If they can post that message about the item being out of stock, why not just take the item down instead? Duh.

    2. Anyplace that charges MORE for shipping based on how much you spend drives me insane. It is like punishing the higher paying customers...you know, the ones you should want to encourage to revisit your .com time and again? Either have flat rate or give people incentive to buy more to "earn" free shipping.

  81. I put in my order last night:
    - Ravello-stripe tortoise-link halter top and hipster in Navy
    - Matchstick jeans in indigo wash
    - Tissue roll-up camp shirt in White

FFM - thank you for the advice on the Jackie cardigan in white. I got the white Jackie at my first trip to the new outlet in Anthem, AZ and after a few washes it looks really bad. That is the outlet version, though. I think the outlet quality is really terrible. I will have to try the "real" one.

    ReplyDelete
  82. elegant_mom: I'm not so sure the *real* Jackie will hold up any better. I've noticed that after a couple times being laundered they really don't look very nice at all...even with washing on gentle cycle and laying flat to dry. It is really a shame because the sweaters are such a great staple piece. I love them, but always wait until they go on sale before buying them because I don't feel they are worth full price.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I forgot to mention that my hope for the white Jackie is that it won't show wash wear as easily due to the color. :)

  84. Lauren - Regarding the super 120s fit, I also size up with their dresses and pencil skirt. Not sure about the lattice dress--I am pessimistic about ordering it because if I order up I think I will be screwed with the breast part because I have post-baby breasts! :-) So that is pretty much why I am holding off from buying.

Also, this week I wore my super 120s black pants suit to work...I was at my desk, looked down, and noticed the inside thigh stitching was coming apart!!! Not that there is a big hole...but it is definitely heading there. I am so mad...I have worn these pants a handful of times. I am definitely going to call customer service about this because this has never happened to me with any other clothing line. I am disappointed but I must say that I still have some jcrew items in my shopping cart trying to take full advantage of this sale. :-)

Does any know the fit of the lattice cami? Does it run big similar to the cheri camis? Was thinking about sizing down.

  85. Can anyone explain why the website sale section is constantly fluctuating between "restocked" and "depleted" (no good stuff left)? It seems to get replenished at least once a day with ALOT of stuff (most of which gets bought quickly by the fast-fingered JCAs). Are these all returns? Or is this some twisted game Mickey is playing with us to keep us coming back? Sometimes I feel like a trained animal rechecking the website 6 or 7 times a day! Is there a huge warehouse somewhere full of all the "good stuff" and they're releasing it very SLOWLY and deliberately. Am I overanalyzing this? O.K., maybe I need to get a life...

    ReplyDelete
  86. More to my previous question: Why does NO OTHER retailer on the web play this wierd game?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I have to admit, I love the restocking game. To me it's just how they schedule and repost returns, but I've worked in Retail and understand the fluctuations. I've gotten VERY lucky in the last few days, and got things I thought I'd never see again for prices lower than I would have paid had they been available earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  88. FFM - thanks for the info on the *real* Jackie. That is too bad that it also doesn't look nice after washing. I'll wait for it to go on sale ... but hopefully I'll find another one soon. It is such a good staple to have to go with everything.

  89. ANON @ 5:17pm

I think it has a lot to do with returns and items that are shipped back from stores. I noticed a lot of JCAs were saying the s/s vneck cardis were left on sale at their stores and there were none online. Early last week all stores shipped back unsold items and presto - Friday they had lots of these cardis online.

Jackie cardis - I didn't realize they didn't hold up well. I was hoping to purchase two this week. Has anyone had any luck with Gap cotton cardis? They have some that look just like the jackie but for a better price.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Lands End has similar cardigans to the Jackie and they are on sale this weekend for $29.50.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Thanks for the info on the Jackie, I will pass on ordering one too.

    ReplyDelete
  92. My $0.02 on the Jackies - the quality *used* to be better (seems to be the theme with JC as of late), I have a navy one and light green ('endive'-like) from 2006, wear and wash them a lot and they look great. The '08 ones that I purchased from last fall (bright azul, soft fuschia, golden cypress) are doing okay, but they definitely don't look as nice as the '06 ones. The older ones also have flat buttons which I like, because if you're going to wear a Jackie with only 1 or 2 buttoned, those newer ones don't seem to hold the cardigan together as well. I would've paid full price for the older ones, the ones that are available now aren't even worth $59.50, IMHO. I have some Isaac Mizrahi for Target basic cardigans that have held up amazingly well.

I used to love the restocking game in the days of the free ship/no min code, because if I saw something I was looking for, I could just snatch it up in a matter of seconds. Now it's coming to JCA to see if there's an active FS code, then waffling on whether to pay shipping or trying to find other "ride-alongs" to add to qualify for the code, and by the time this happens, the item in question is sold out. If free shipping was an option for cardmembers like we've been saying, I'd probably purchase more and return less.

  93. I remember reading complaints about this years tissue tees, has anyone seen them in the stores and have any comments? Is the quality that bad?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Anyone get word about a President's Day sale? Would be nice to see something. It appears all other sites are doing that..?

    ReplyDelete
  95. I just snagged a bunch of gems in the restock and then went to submit by $160 dollar order. The tax was $45!!!! I don't think so. J Crew, you've just lost my business.

Yes, the Land's End cardigans are just like the JCrew Jackie cardigans and are better made and last longer. I tend to size down and the fit is fine. I wear a medium in JCrew and get a small in Land's End. I only have JCrew Jackies from 2003 and 2004. I won't buy the newer ones b/c they are not well made. so head to land's end for a better price and quality and returns can be made at anytime/no questions asked so nothing to loose. Don't like the way it fits or wears after 3, 6 or 9 months just return it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I ordered a few items on FS this am, including the wool jersey empire rosette tank-I sure hope this fits since it is FS-anyone have this or the similar wool rosette dress?

    ReplyDelete
  98. OT but while Land's End is on this thread ... yesterday I ordered a camel suede pump from LE for 29.50 that is much like Coralie for $200 BUT the quality is WAAAAY better. Check it out ... ALL leather, really well made, leather-wrapped heel. Winter colors, but the Camel works for me. Their sizes are very TTS. I have their slingbacks too, same story.

  99. Just FYI - I bought the new broken-in Boyfriend chinos. They were great until I washed them - the seams are completely twisted down the legs and I am so disappointed. Will have to go to the store and see if they will refund me :(

    ReplyDelete
  100. Michelle (and others?) - I have a Gap cotton cardigan in pink that is at least 7 years old (?!) - it has kept its shape and colour beautifully. Given the issues people have noted re the Jackie cardigans, I'd probably give the Gap ones a try - the colors are really pretty IRL and look well made to me - for a better price I'd rather try these. I tend to stick to Merino cardis (or cashmere) in light weight JC sweaters as I feel they are good quality and don't show the wear like the cotton ones....I'd rather pay a bit more for these then get the cotton ones for cheaper elsewhere....

  101. Jcrew is really making the update game something. I've waited for hours this morning for the update of maggie jackets in a regular size. They started updating items one by one since 6:00 and still haven't got to maggie. Jcrew makes buying sale items some work only professional jcrew resellers want to do.

    ReplyDelete
  102. J.Crew cashmere isn't worth full price at all, in my opinion. It is nowhere near good enough quality anymore - the sweaters I have from last year look worse than cashmere sweaters I've had for 10 years.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Anon @ 11:14 - It's crazy that Land's End can offer full leather shoes, lining heel and sole included for $29.50. The heel is a little lower than J.Crew's Coralie and they cost $198. J.Crew shoes are ungodly overpriced for a bit of leather on top of a bunch of plastic.

    ReplyDelete
  104. J Crew is getting to be like Old Navy except for the high price tag! I guess J Crew is into selling crap this Spring, Mickey was not kidding when he said that they might have to look at the quality issue? Duh do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  105. I love JCrew and have been a fan for many many years...almost 10 in fact--but the quality is going down and fast. It is so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  106. The Land's End shoe may be better quality and cheaper, but I'm sorry, I don't always wants to wear a brown, black, or dark wine colored shoe! J. Crew has some more adventurous colors and for that reason look more current.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Thanks Anon 11:14 I ordered those Camel-colored ones too. Land's End is conservative (dowdy, sometimes) but they can seriously teach Mickey a thing or two about good websites and consistently good quality at reasonable prices. $200 for a bit of spearmint-colored suede on plastic is not worth it IMHO, even if the colors are more "of the moment."

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hey, sorry for the OT, but some of the canadian jca's have been commenting on the super high taxes jcrew has been charging over the past few days, and when I spoke to someone online they said they were going to investigate the problem, but gave me free shipping on my order and would refund me the extra tax charge! so if there's something you really want, don't hesitate to call them!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Actually I'd prefer the more fashionable looking shoe. I honestly never had a quality issue with any JCrew shoe I've owned (And it's more than a couple dozen), plus I get quite a few compliments on them. I just wish their sizing was a little more dependable lately. I just visited LE and yeah, way too dowdy for me. That isn't to say JC shoes are overpriced. I think technically most shoes are overpriced however...for what you get out of them.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I was just browsing the website looking at their swim and thought if someone wanted a laugh they could check out the backside view of the moonlight garden bottoms (12881). I'm hoping there's some variation with the print if I decide to buy it...

    ReplyDelete
  111. I prefer dowdy compared to overpriced plastic shoes anyday!

    ReplyDelete
  112. If anyone is interested in cherry-picking from Land's End - their cashmere is the BEST quality you will ever find - they are having a 20% off promo code today only. Promo Code LINCOLN and PIN 112447714. Brings those non-dowdy (IMO) camel suede pumps down to $24!

    ReplyDelete
  113. anon 7:06: Thank-you for the code I ordered some more dowdy stuff, heck alot cheaper the JC, and better quality too, at least my Jackie look alike will not fade after 4 washings.
