Order Status: Open versus Submitted

Rach made a great suggestion (in the "J.Crew's Website: What will happen today?" post) to define the "new" status of online orders at J.Crew in its own post. We were fortunate enough to have Blumre & Rach (in the same post) share with us what J. Crew customer service reps told them about order status type:

"Open" means the order is still being processed and is not ready to ship.

"Released" means the package has been processed and is ready to be shipped.

"Submitted" means that it has been submitted to the warehouse.

Hopefully your new orders are "open" and ready to go!!! Personally, I preferred "in stock"; "ready to ship"; "canceled by customer"; "canceled"; and "waitlisted". Now those order status categories were clear and to the point. :) Also, "thanks!" Rach & Blumre!

  1. Ok...as I've said in prior posts...my order has been "open" for 3 days now...it is supposedly sitting in the warehouse ready to go, but noone seems to be able to throw it on the truck...I will be so ECSTATIC to see "SHIPPED" on my order page (if that's even the word that will be used)!

  2. FabulousFloridaMommy: I was wondering the same thing: will "shipped" even be a status category when your package finally ships! Too funny! :)

  3. You missed a status: 'Released' This means that the package has been processed and is ready to be shipped. (At this stage they cannot make changes to an order.)

Wait, according to what's posted on the blogsite "Released" and "Open" sound like the same thing. I just called JCrew & was told:
    - "Open" means the order is still being processed and is NOT ready to ship, and

    - "Released" means the package has been processed and is ready to be shipped.

See, that's why they should define it on their website!

  4. Hi Rach! Thanks for clarifying a bit more. I updated the post with the new "open" & "release" info. It's too bad they didn't keep up with the older categories (which were much simpler to interpret!) :)

  5. I do what I can... no need to thank me... that is what your site is all about. Hopefully someone will eventually get the info straight cause it seems like J Crew is still confused about what all this means.

Good luck on all your orders!

  6. P.S. Thank you Alexis for creating this place for us to all help each other out.

  7. Oh such a relief to finally know what these mean! Now, my order has been released for nearly 4 days - when will it finally ship?!?

Lisa Dress in Kelly Green PMed to the 25% off and free ship. Excited!

  8. I just tried to place an order on the website. I managed to get the 3 items into the cart quickly but after pressing checkout 6 times, I gave up and called in the order. The CS I got just started at J Crew a week and a half ago. Ouch.

In addition to that, one of the tank tops I wanted was listed on the website as $9.99 each or 2 for $30.

  9. thank you for the translations! :o) My 6/30 order is still "open"... one of the items is no longer on the site anywhere and the other has been going on and off, but I am still hopeful I may get them! On a side note, I placed an order with Gymboree on the same day as this J Crew order and I received the Gymboree box this afternoon~

  10. I have had an OPEN order since last Thurs. Over a week...

  11. I have had an open order since Friday! FFM: are you really ranting over an open 3 day order:)

  12. I had the best day yesterday in my JCrew outfit. I was wearing a pale pink crochet sweater from a few season ago with a JCrew pale pink eyelet trimmed tank and JCrew white jeans...I got tons of compliments...but the best part was I was at Althorp: Princess Diana's childhood home. Her wedding dress took my breath away:) I saw the oval lake/island where she was buried. Toured the house--saw the entrance way where is practiced her tap dance. It was an amazing place. Can't wait to go back. Pictures of me in my JCrew outfit at Althorp:)

  13. anon @5:51am: The "Rant" aspect was meant to be humorous...I was simply telling my story about my order experience and how I am upset...I was hoping to wear my new clothes for this Holiday weekend...my "rant" came after I called to check on an order I had placed on the phone earlier...by the time the rep was able to "log on" to place it, my blouse was SOLD OUT...that is why I wrote what I did...the blouse order not being placed was just an added disappointment on top of the ordeal with the package, and made the whole situation more upsetting.

Btw...I never "Ranted" to the CS Reps, either...I wouldn't do that to them... :)

  14. then what on earth does "releaseable" mean? that's been my status for four days now.

  15. Blumre: I agree, I hope they will eventually straighten out the orders in addition to the status of orders. :) Also, thanks for helping out so much- this blog is only great because of members like you who are so nice in sharing advice and news. :)

Sania: I think you are asking a fair question, "when will it finally ship?" and unfortunately I don't think J.Crew even knows the answer for sure. :) In another post, a visitor mentioned that they are going to mail the packages on Monday (but they weren't 100% certain).

Anonymous at 5:55 AM: Great outfit!!! Also very jealous that you are on holiday in England. :)

A: I can't believe there is another ambiguous order status. I have no idea what "releaseable" is but hopefully someone else here might. :)

  16. In "Most Recent Orders", my order status on an item I purchased yesterday says "released". In "Purchase History", the status says "open". So is it released or open?... who knows!

  17. Sorry to hear your blouse was sold out; same thing happened to me...ordered it last Wed. and it was in stock and then WHAM! Monday it was cancelled. Had to discover it myself. I called to order a different color instead; the CS rep would not give me the additional 25% off like the original one I had ordered b/c she simply stated we are no longer doing that but you get free shipping....

  18. Just wanted to let everyone know that my order from Monday shipped out some time early this morning and even has a tracking number. The CSR I spoke to this morning said that they are trying to get packages out today.

  19. Woo - thanks Layla. I just checked my status and my package appears to have shipped too!

Hopefully this is the beginning of things looking up!

  20. I can't stand the new labels. Alexis is right--the old way was clearly decribed and didn't need translation. Really bad idea JCrew--in case anyone is reading this:)

I hope the orders are going out at lightening speed. I am leaving Thurs. of next week for a few days and I really need my order that I placed on Wed. Under normal circumstances I get my order in 3-4 days.

  21. my items from last friday's order still says open and submitted... :/

hopefully, I will get them early next week. one of the items is a sweater, so it's not like I need it right now anyway. but still, a wait this long is unbearable! I hope everyone elses' orders get squared away soon, too.

  22. I'm confused as to how my order can be released, but for each item, it says open....???

    ReplyDelete
  23. Aly, My order from Sunday says the same thing too; open for each item but the order itself is released. I'm a bit confused???

  24. So, I had two waitlisted items that were supposed to ship today (and of course didn't). But one of them did switch from waitlisted to "open." Is that a good sign? It's a bridesmaid's dress and the wedding is August 2nd so I am seriously hoping it goes out VERY soon.

  25. I'm so frustrated with jcrew. My order has been in release status for 2 weeks and every time I call, they tell me to wait. This time it was sorry, we just don't have the product anymore, so that is why it has not been shipped. You could not tell me that 2 weeks ago? Additionally, they did not even have another similar replacement product for me, of course unless I wanted to pay more! If you do NOT have the product, you should not be able to purchase it! I even got a thanks for purchasing and your order will be ready soon email. Sorry fans, I am no longer a jcrew fan.

  26. Anonymous at 7:53 PM: You have every right to be frustrated. I really think it is awful to be able to purchase something (get your hopes up about receiving it) only to find out you really can't have it.

Perhaps if you call back, a CSR will offer you a bonus of some sort for your troubles. Many here have mentioned gift cards, free shipping, and the like. :)

  27. So i ordered the green pants I put in a recent polyvore outfit. I ordered a 2 because lately their pants have been running so big... that and they were out of the 4 in the alpine green. I hope they fit and I hope they are long enough. With Jcrew pants I normally order a tall and get them shortened but they were out of the T too... So I 1. hope they get here and 2. hope they fit.

The CSR I spoke with said that all employees have been told to gie customers whatever they ask for. The company told them that they would rather loose 10 or 20 bucks than lose a customer. So dont be shy in asking for those discounts.

  28. My order status said "released" on the top by the order number, then "open" on another place. I waited a week for my stuff to come which is the standard time, but it never did. Then I looked today and saw the cashmere crew neck tee was listed as cancelled. Since I didn't cancel it, I called CS to see what was up. It turns out they ran out of it and never bothered to tell me, and then I found out that my other sweater was waitlisted until over a month from now! Thanks for letting me know! They did give me a $20 gift card though, so make sure to ask for a discount of some kind if they've screwed up your order. Before the website upgrade this never happened and I always got my stuff exactly a week from the submission date. I was excited to get the cashmere tee especially since it was on sale too. They need to get their stuff together!

  29. Wow! I am finding your site helpful! I found it a little late (when I was searching which J.Crew coat is warmest...etc.)..and then again when I wondered what does it mean that my order is "released". I feared the worst (cancelled), but see by your post that it is getting ready to ship! Yes! Thanks for your info!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Just a quick follow up! Yes! Just checked again..and my released coat is not "complete"! Can't wait! Was thinking things were looking grim (length of wait, etc.), but happily my order is on its way!
