J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I admit I found a few things in the 70% off sale: tortise earrings and cuff bracelet, Lele Sadoughi stud earring in red, and a Beauchamp linen pull on skirt. Sure I'll wear the skirt at home this summer, looks easy to pull on with a linen tank for a hot day and with sandals if I have to go out (rare lately). And when I am back in the office it will still work.

I'm finding myself wearing my summer sleeveless dresses at home, they were never warm enough for my cold office. But my large collection of summer scarves and sweaters are getting zero wear in my warm house.

The Tie-dyed silk tunic (now $13 at 70% off) is fun. I followed the reviews and ordered up to a M. My ususal S would have been short in the arms. It's loose but in a nice way. The color is bright, true to the photos.

Then there is the watermelon sequin top (also at 70% off, about $9.) I received this item as a promotion gift earlier in the season, but haven't had a chance to wear it. It runs large, like a swing top, not usually a favorite for me. But at $9 I'd be tempted if I didn't have one. Though it could end up one of those things you never actually wear...ymmv. I did try it on with a high waist white denim skirt and that's how I'd wear it if I had anywhere fun to go.

    1. Wow those are amazing deals! I hope they all work out nicely!

I wish we’d get some great deals in Canada but I’m happy for the US jcas, I hope JCrew is doing ok.

    3. I sent the Watermelon sequin top to my step-daughter. She's got more chances to wear it than I do!

I think all retail is desparate to get rid of inventory due to pandemic. The only thing selling has been athleisure.

  2. Has anyone tried the stovepipe jeans in Atlantic wash or boomer wash? I’m wondering about the fit etc. I have a ton of older lookouts and 10” high rise but was looking for jeans with a leg that isn’t tight at the bottom. I do have the vintage straight jean in medium dark which I like but are a bit looser throughout the whole leg. The stovepipe jeans say 13 1/2” leg opening and 12” opening I was wondering if that’s correct and the diff washes are that diff in leg opening. TIA

  3. I placed an order on June 17 that still hasn't shipped. I completely understand there's a pandemic right now, but two Madewell orders I've placed after the 17th have shipped and arrived already. How long are J.Crew orders taking to ship right now?

    1. Orders I placed earlier last week were shipped quickly next day or even same day. The order I placed on Saturday hasn't shipped yet.

    2. i had an order "ship" on june 15. there is no tracking other than "ready for pick up" so CS refunded me the $ for that order and reordered the items for me. the second order is out for delivery today. i'd call CS and have them do the same.

    3. I had an order that shipped on May 23. It just disappeared into the system and never had any tracking information other than ready for pick up. I emailed customer service and they refunded that order to my credit card and I re- ordered. The pants I re-ordered on June 16th arrived on June 21st. Imagine my surprise when the first order appeared in my mailbox this week It took over one month for it to arrive from the initial order date. When you look at the original tracking number it still shows that it’s waiting for pick up. Now I’ve got to get with customer service to get that first order back to them when they have no ideas that I received it. That should be fun.

    4. Thank you all for your responses! My order is still in "order placed" mode, not even shipped. I'm dubious, but one of the items sold out today which makes me sad. I will call CS.

  4. Anyone a Rebecca Taylor/Tory Burch aficionada? I am a complete virgin when it comes to these brands. AmEx offers at these brands and Club Monaco has me considering their wares. Sorry I could not wait until tomorrow to post.

    1. I have only one TB item, a pair of the miller sandals in a light gold which is so versatile and pretty comfy. I’m really happy with them. If you can return items I’m sure it’s worth a try.

    2. I LOVE Tory Burch wallets and flats (but only the more subtle styles), as well as their signature fragrance. The shoes and wallets are really good quality and last for a long time. I recently bit on a pair of polka dot Minnie flats when they had the 25% off sale and 10% ebates, in addition to the AmEx offer. The sales are now 30% off so the flats are now cheaper, but sizes run out quick.

    3. I own several Rebecca Taylor pieces! I like her dresses in particular. The quality is generally very good, though I have to watch her cuts because they can be too trendy. I generally size down one size in RT items but not always.

    4. I love Tory Burch travel minnies in quilted leather. It’s my go to work shoe. I love them because they are sleek and professional looking but comfy as I’m on my feet in and out of schools all day long. And with how many steps I get each day they last a long time. I try to wait for sales to stock up but the flats are well worth the retail price.

I also own a few TB bags. I don’t often carry a purse anymore - just on the weekends. But I reach for the two I have often. They are supple and so chic looking.

I haven’t tried clothing at either TB or RT. However I peruse the RT site so often. I live the feminine patterns, pastel colors. Such a Parisian feel. But since I haven’t ever tried a piece I have no idea on sizing and that makes me hesitate to place that first purchase.

    6. Thanks everyone for weighing in! Helmut Lang had another Surplus Sale (2nd in the span of 2 months) and I got the Rider pants, Rider leggings & a couple of tops. The quality is awesome. Love the minimalist style and gravitate to the basics.

  5. I fell for discount on beauchamps linen dress in black (J2467). But only sizes available were Petit or Tall. At 5'3, I usually opt for regular or petit sizing and have never purchased Tall. But for some reason, i pulled the trigger on Tall Small in the Linen. Could anyone comment on their experience with buying Tall while short? Also, if anyone owns this dress, what is your take - will it look frumpy in longer black? And how is it sized in Petit - I am a standard S (with occasional XS). In petit, it could be both PS or PM.

    1. I regularly buy tall sizes for JC skirts even though I’m 5’1. I find JC skirts except for No. 2 pencil skirts to be too short for my comfort. I don’t do it for dresses because it always looks like I’ve got too much fabric on, esp if it’s a an elastic waist with a blouson style top.

  6. Sale got me! But for my littles. Can’t say no to reasonably priced liberty dresses for my girls. The quality is usually great and my girls will wear them all 4 seasons. Just add tights, ankle boots, and a big cozy cardigan and it’s the perfect winter outfit for little girls. I may have thrown in the block print top for myself :)
