Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Collection Green Fair Isle Sweater - so I picked up this sweater at my B&M last night. Size xs. The green/gray color is muted IRL, and not bright like photo online. It’s hefty, lofty, for a lambswool, the knit quality is good, as one would expect from a Collection piece. Wide neck. Sleeves are tight IMO, and length is perfect on me, and I have short arms. Probably 30’ to 29’ in length. The body is long but not boxy. Extends way past my bum. It’s meant to be long. I just saw a pic from their Feb 17’ nyfw, and it was styled very slouchy on the model.
I’m on the fence about keeping it. It looks dated and a little 80’s to me—I think because of the slouchy look of it. Maybe if it wasn’t long, it would look modern? I had a flashback moment of shopping at Mervyn’s for a sweater circa 1985 😂. So if it’s slouchy, best to pair it with skinny bottoms. Something tapered and not wide leg.

  2. I am stopping in tomorrow morning - my SA works early on Saturday so would like to get in before the mall opens and is crazy. I am returning a few items including the tie glen plaid blazer, regular length plaid Marties and I think the paisley silk pants are going back as well. I heard there are more new items coming next week ...haven't seen anything online yet though.

  3. J Crew Factory mailed me two codes for $20 off on an order of $20 or more at Shutterfly. I won't be using them, so feel free. Valid thru Dec 31. Restrictions apply. Enter code at shutterfly.com/jcrewfactory.

  4. No visit for me until my plaid Cameron pants ship and I decide which size, if any I am keeping. I did receive a large factory order and have to say I am leaning towards keeping it all. It is not all super quality but for the prices I paid worth it. To me if I am going to get poly, acrylic and nylon weird sweater blends I will go with the cheapest version. I got the Lurex Fair Isle sweater and love the colors in person. It is cotton poly and wool. Also got the Drapey Ruffle tee in Stewart plaid. It is poly but fits well and will work for a few holiday events with black skinnies. The Ruffle sweater skirt hits me right above the knee at 5 ft 4 and will match a lot in my wardrobe since it is neutral. It is a fitted as sweater skirts are. Last the tartan flats in half a size down as my regular size slipped off even with heels pads arrived. I am wearing them to work today. It was the right call to keep the smaller size but they aren't the most comfortable. Again though for what I paid and the limited holiday use I am satisfied. Picked up a few other odds and ends but those are the holiday highlights.

  5. Amassing the return pile. Received the Signet bag and while it is lovely (I bought the gray one) I was swayed by the reviews that said it's size is ample for everything you need. Not big enough for me. It's tiny! I could fit in my wallet and my reading glasses and phone....but not my sunglasses, little makeup bag with lipstick, tissues, etc. or anything else. I'm bummed, but it's too small for me. Also returning the cute striped purse strap. Hoping for better luck on all the other things coming my way!

  6. I stumped the SA today when I attempted to return the silk paisley pants.
I had the packing slip. He scanned it. He told me the item wasn’t “showing up.”
He calls CS. They explain I can’t return the pants, because that item hasn’t shipped yet.
SA tells CS “well, they did ship because I am holding them in my hand.”
Apparently because the order does not show up as having shipped in their system, I have not been charged yet, so technically I can’t “return” them.

So I left with my pants. I will wait a week and see what will happen next.....will they figure this out? Will they ship me another pair since they have no record of the one the shipped me?

    This is insanity.

    3. This same thing happened to me - must have been a couple of years ago. I think they were finally able to return it, but it too FOREVER, including a long call to CS by the store, to resolve it. Luckily it was a slow night :-(

    4. That happened to me a couple of years ago, with a wool peacoat. They shipped me two, charged me for one. Crazy.

    5. The same thing happened to me this week. I received a package from Jcrew and then a couple days later received the shipping notice. I didn’t try to return it though so I didn’t have to deal with that. I hope you get it figured out soon!

  7. Making a few returns, so will stop by. Received some of my 40% off promo purchases. Tried tiered maxi skirt in 2 sizes. It's tts in the hips, so keeping my normal size medium. Small fits but I want a looser fit in hips; waist fits just fine. Live a little tee is tts & cute option for the holidays. Keeping silk paisley pants in regular length; fit is tts. It's not a heavy silk but works just fine for milder climates. Liberty floral print cotton pjs are the cutest & you can wear them out. Fit is tts; also, have the perfect shirt in the same print, so have a couple of options. Finally, ruffled metallic star popover; I prefer a loose fit in this style so tts. Looks cute with star print crepe fits. Could also pair with paisley pants too.

  8. My missing order showed up and sadly almost everything is going back. The ruffle mini in red is a great color but the skirt itself is much straighter than I thought. The pleated "lamé" mini is cute but I prefer my faux leather one, it's just slightly more structured.
Of course I ordered these items twice because then there was a better promo right after, and totally forgot to order two vests that I probably would have kept.

I have another order coming with the cable and fair isle sweater which I think will probably go back too.

Thank goodness I have some festive jewelry and shoes and a couple of decent sweaters and black tops. I'll probably wear my leather Ryder pants and other black pants with some sparkly jewelry and that's that. Maybe this will be my minimalist Christmas.

  9. On top of using my rewards for items that are almost all going back, I also used a $50 off $150 card I received. Sigh...does anyone know how they work that? It's not showing up on my order details for some reason and there are other items I probably should have purchased instead. It's also my birthday month so I got a $25 card.

    1. Hi Suzy for the $50 off $150 if you return all the items the card should activate again. It has happened for me in the past after the returns show up on my credit card. Hope it works for you.

    2. I think they credited my account for it so I'll keep the card and see what happens.

  10. Adding to the return pile....the tartan plaid quilted puffer coat. I ordered my regular size and it's a bit big but mainly it makes me look like the Pillsbury dough boy wearing a tartan coat. Ugh...I looked FAT! Husbands shirts I ordered him are too small as well. Today I should get the tartan maxi and I'll give my report on that. I HOPE I like it!

    2. +1. One of the few things in the last rollout I liked and no bueno. It’s really unflattering and not warm enough for a winter release (in the Midwest anyway) to boot!

      Delete
    3. Oh geez! I'm sorry to hear it's not working for anyone! I have a quilted field jacket coat from years ago that I love! It fits great and I don't look "puffy" in it at all. I thought the tartan one would be the same style.

  15. Stopped by the Flatiron store for returns and didn’t feel encouraged to buy anything given the selected 30% off FP promo. The sale section was packed and full of oldies. Who is buying the jacquard bee shorts in this weather without any additional discount? I also spotted a shelf in the shoe section with a sign “Online exclusives, now in store” ... so uh what’s the point of them being online exclusives? Also spotted a number of shoes that are marked sold out online, which makes me think JC may have moved to a new inventory system or they’ve cut back on inventory updates. That’s based on today’s store observations plus the fact that my Nov. 24 order is still “placed” rather than “shipped.” Let my order go, J Crew!

    1. Yep, sale section in the 2 stores I visited was packed. Items showing sold out are definitely in stores. SMH because items showing backordered online are available in stores. There's also going to be a huge sale update at some point. Saw a few new arrivals that are also online, but nothing I need.

  18. Grrr.....didn't get my tartan maxi yesterday. Delayed due to weather conditions. Hopefully Monday. Question for you all....any of you wearing a strapless tulle dress over a chambray button down shirt to a holiday party? According to an email from the Crew that's a look. What the heck??? That photo says nothing like "I'm going to a party and I'm happy about it"....the models look messy and miserable. I just don't get it.

  19. I stopped in yesterday morning for returns. As others noted, I spotted a few items that are backordered, including the embroidered rose tee which I ordered and isn't due to ship until 12/20. I had planned on returning the "lambswool" mockneck cable sweater in heather cilantro but my SA showed me a few styling options and I'm going to keep it. It looks like they've updated the description for this sweater - it originally said 100% wool but the blend is 60% cotton 30% nylon 10% wool. 10%. That being said, it is a cute sweater, albeit short on my 5'8" self, but is fine with high waisted jeans. The knit is large though and you can see my arms through it so I need to work on layers. It might still go back.

I didn't feel like trying things on and the sale section looked messy, so I mostly did my returns and left.

I did wear my tuxedo blazer Friday night with a strapless jumpsuit and I love this blazer. Such a great addition to my wardrobe, glad I scooped it up with the 40 off before it sold out.

And I guess new stuff the week of 12/11. But at the rate they're shipping, if you don't have holiday stuff by now...seems pointless.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Anne, thank you for the updates! I don’t know if my mockneck sweater shipped yet, I appreciate your update on it. I’m about your height so I’m worried about the length.
I agree that new items the week of the 11th seems late. I think that’s about the cutoff to get things by Christmas here in Canada.

    2. how is the rose tee? sheer?

      Delete
    3. eeps, the rose tee isn't sheer at all which is nice - it's more substantial than the Tres Chic tee if you've tried/have that. I didn't try the rose tee on until after I got home - it looked small in store but still too it home. It seems wide and short. I just compared to my Tres Chic tee and it's wider/shorter by about an inch in length and the neck is smaller. After all that, not sure I will keep it, since I like the longer tee length.

  20. Can anyone comment on sizing for Lady Day coats? I’m a size 12 in the Campbell linen blazers, but found the size 14 Campbell wool blazer snug. I’d say my shoulders are average, and I’m 5’9”.Should I go for a 12 or 14 in the Lady Day?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi shopgrrrl - almost every review I've read of a Lady Day coat recommends sizing up, especially if you're going to wear anything thicker than a Tippi underneath. I think they've consistently cut it slim in the shoulders like their trench coat. Hopefully some other JCA's can chime in!

      Delete
    2. Thanks, silver_lining! For some reason I can’t see the Lady Day coat on the website right now. I find it hard to believe it’s completely sold out in all sizes and colors.

      Delete
    3. Definitely agree to size up. I am a 14 and it was a struggle to get it on even with a light sweater. On a lighter note, there were several sz 14s and 16s of various coats in the Annapolis store last week...just not a 16 in the LD coat. Good luck!

      Delete
    4. Agree on sizing up. I always start out with a 6 in blazers and outerwear. I took an 8 in the four coats (yes, four . . . they were all on super post-winter sale . . . and I love them all!) that I ordered last season in order to have enough room in the shoulders. BTW, I'm pretty sure I have normal shoulders, not large shoulders. It's a great coat. As long as it's not final sale, you may want to order both sizes to compare.

    1. Me too! I emailed CS regarding the yet-to-be released Fair Isle sweater I've been eyeing (that matches the beanie already available), and they said it is expected to be released December 6th (date subject to change and not guaranteed !!) I can't tell if they're actually doing a roll-out then, or just "releasing" it. Seems like every other day, there's a new item or two on the site.

    2. There was a tunic sweater released a roll out ago. came only in two colors. I ordered both. waitlisted until Dec 4th. they are not on the site anymore. I cancelled the order...because i ordered alttle too much with the 40% and 10% extra promo. The sweater was a blend and changed my mind on even trying it. It was def tunic length vee neck and patch pockets...anyone else order and get it
? colors offered were heather carmel and heather charcoal. I think.
I also have the lace/with pleats panel top...coming.. well maybe . It was waitlisted. I have not cancelled this one.

      Delete
    3. I ordered the charcoal one. It should arrive tomorrow. I also ordered the camel one when it I saw it on the site a few days ago. They had a whole run of sizes for both colors. I had to look for it under new arrivals. I just checked and there are still some sizes if you're interested. :)

    4. I saw that tunic sweater at my store yesterday - only a few left but I hadn't remembered seeing it. Their inventory is so screwy lately. I had the lace top with pleats in my cart this morning, not showing low stock, and I went back to check out and it's sold out in almost every size.

    5. looked again .not on the Canadian site . only the US. the first reason they gave me for the waitlist was Borderfree could not get it? My guess is Canada won;t get it.

    3. I just got a "Happy to clarify" response. Apparently, those promos are one-time us only! But they are happy to honor the code if I place an order right now. Too bad their offerings are craptastic.

So disappointing. I've been a customer since 1988. I think this is the last straw.

    7. I sent a follow up email stating that I've been a customer since 1988, most of my closet is J Crew, and this was a departure from their usually great customer service. I got a saccharine response from a third CS rep who said they would try and help. At this point thought I would have to spend $70 to redeem the coupon (the dress I got cost $82 and shipped 11 days after I ordered it) and frankly I just cannot be bothered. Nothing remotely interests me.

    1. Oh, LOL. Do mobile page load times really matter if the information on them is just plain wrong (ie, says "Lambswool", really means "Cotton/nylon/wool")?

JC has never been the most technically savvy retailer - but I think for some, the in-store customer experience has made up for that. After my store closed, having only the website to rely on for the last year has definitely made an impact on my spending there overall. I miss being able to see the pieces IRL, talk to SA's about what's coming, ordering in store if necessary, making easy returns. If they're going to rely on mainly the website they need to make a LOT of improvements, and if there are little or no stores they should really rethink charging for return shipping.
